DAIRY OF ALHAJI TANKO (Burlesque)

Our decimation is no news no more,
And brothers swam the sands of the desert
For our heads - as tears became thicker than blood;
Hell has found its place amongst us.

The morning and night are against us.
They conspire with the bulb of the earth
To hunt us down while our shadow freely flee from us
In fear as we roam like potential corpses.
Yesterday, they came in hundreds in monstrous motors,
Squirting death's seeds at sighted souls - thereby planting
Murder on our lands; they performed wudhu with our blood,
Took our daughters and drown our abode with streams of fire
In the gleeful watch of our protector above.
For how long will our peace be sodomized?
For how long will our death cease to appease you?
Are we cursed by you, or are you jealous
And threatened by our existence?

Who exhumed the peaceful hell?
Despaired hearts asked from paradise's hell,
Gnashing their teeth towards absconded fate.
I recall the serious-play of Russian roulette
Thrown at me in the theater of death,
Each rounds went off breaking my frozen blink.
My faith denied fate its fetish grin that day,
But my brothers calmly lost their heads
In silent supplication at terror's swag.
Today, I speak to you from a prisoner's lot;
Just before this bloody ground swallows me
In a mass grave interred amongst victims of brotherhood,
Know that i have painstakingly tried
To sieve water from fire
So as to extinguish hell for my children.

Poems For ReviewRe: Rudiments Of Poetry by timpaker(m): 5:02pm On Dec 04, 2014
joseph1832:
Noble4d please I need your thoughts on this. Can you call this a poem?.

In brightest day
In blackest night
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil's might
Beware my power, Green lantern's light.

I'll call it a poem.
If it wasn't for the break, I'd have termed it a 'prose poetry.
But basically, I see a form of poetry known as 'Light poetry' organized in a 'Quintain (or quintet)'. Light in this context means that it is brief.
Again, I also identified alliterations in line 4 & 5 (though, the alliteration isn't heavy) but the rhyme scheme of ABBBB is quite adventurous.
The unpopular rhyming scheme of ABBBB used made it impossible for me to term it with another form other than this, but I'm quite certain that it is a Light poetry.

What I'm trying to say is this, learn to punctuate your poems even when you think you are guided by grammar. A good poem is best appreciated by its punctuations which help the reader pause at break line, breathe and understand the poem.

Also note that the words at beginning of a line should be capitalized, the 'i' should be capitalized too and commas and full stops should be invited where necessary to spot and "ends stop".
Thanks.

Please poets, If you choose to forgo the rules because you don’t know them rather than as a creative technique, your lack of knowledge will show and the poem will present as amateurish. Like I've observed, for all types of writing: some poets should learn the rules before they go ahead and break them. A literally technique known as Constrained Writing should be your guide.

However, in some instances, Poets don’t always follow the rules, which is why poetry is attractive to writers who are especially creative, rebellious, and enjoy colouring outside the lines.
But punctuations helps one/readers identify the line break and helps readers breathe between phrases.

Having studied Firestar's style of writing, I became convinced that indeed another Lorine Niedecker is here with us. She breaks her line in a way that signals a new idea without a hard end stop. She employs alliteration and assonance to cause a pleasurable sound play along with rhyme and near rhyme. The rhymes are often in words close to each other and not always at the ends of phrases. With her short lines and tight turns, punctuation may have caused the reader to stop in ways she preferred not to have happen. Other poets such as E. E. Cummings writes without punctuations and in such style. But the new school of thought stresses more on punctuations because It helps clarify a poem to the reader for better understanding.

BONDAGE...I NEED MY FREEDOM

Shackles of the dim past
Lights my soul with pain.
In pensive mood I cry,
My heart leaps, for unknown -
The unwanted part of me
Has made my being a fool
For I gather my chain
And lie on the solid soil.
***********************
My hands knows no craft
I look without seeing,
For I am well ordained
With ornaments of crime,
Rags of unwanted perjury
Is mine to behold.
The ray of light I see
Has made me blind within.
************************
My freedom I cry -
This lock is so unfriendly,
I wash and sleep in tears
For my soul fears them all.
My room is shallow
With unwanted occupants,
Hunger now my buddy
For I eat my vomit.
*****************
Let me out of here
Anybody! Somebody!!
I need my freedom.
Just give me a piece of bread
To make me bear my brunt.
This cross I carry alone
Is too much for a con
Who has now been pervaded.
*************************
Freedom. Freedom.
Is all my being longs for.
The padlock on me
Makes me an unwanted honey.
I wander here all alone,
In an infested boulevard.
An unplanned mystery
Is what awaits me.
*******************
Can I ever see the light?
Will the sun ever see me?
Would I have my own?
My loneliness frauds me,
A fraudster now defrauded.
Untie my hands, I plead;
Unlock this chain, I cry;
Give me freedom, I sing.
**********************
Punctuations are very important in poems. (Note that I've helped you in doing that)
I love your use of metaphor in verse 2
I also admire your style of writing. Keep it up.

...Oh 'Tachi
What did they make you do...?

Were you just a myth?
His fictional creation?

Sacrifices,
For the good of your clan ?
For the good of your village ?
For the good of your nation ?

Oh 'Tachi
Your hands...

Will they ever be supple and white
Like the artist you were
To paint your dreams
Other than shades of grey ?

Will your soul be brought back
To embrace life once again
To feel once again
To love once again ?

Oh 'Tachi
Your brother...

Your Father
Your own Mother...

Red.
All I see is red.

Red mingled with tears.

Your mind's blank
Soul is numb
Heart is seared

Oh 'Tachi

What was lost that day?
Apart from a sea of scarlet?

Can you remember?

'Tachi...?
You eh....the Tachi I know is from Naruto huh? Nice one madam..... #MoreBloodz

Wow! This is too good, almost un-nigerian. Nice to be amidst word creators.

Owk, I like to think myself as a poet. I have written a couple of poems in the past (both in English and French languages). I even went ahead to submit them to some foreign websites but non ever got published. I'm not really sad about it. Neither am I discouraged. It was probably cause my poems were anti-occidental, lol.

So, do I have a place here? I mean, as a self acclaimed poet, hehe...
Yes you have a place here. Just visit poem your poems at the Section and get a critic by poets
