Bondage under the western culture. B4 we emulate everything, lets look at their society and all d ills that plague it. If we aint careful, we wuld embrace d right 2 abortions by teenagers, gay marriages, incest and many more. One shuld be proud of his culture and not be quick 2 discard it and embrace an alien one. Future generations will never 4giv us if we continue 2 embrace everything. And we shuld not confuse technological advancement as culture. Though I guess its still an individual thing.

Mr. DARK-ly, I guess you are beginning to show your dark side now. I thought you were man enough to appreciate criticism whenever it comes your way but you are taking it too personal. For pete's sake I would like to refresh your memory that you started out with letting fellow Nairalanders know that you think it would be best that we all post and reply topics in this forum with proper grammar. But it seems that you felt let down by some responses and have now resorted to spitting out insults at people. Your comment - "What did tipsydude say that you apparently agreed with? I do believe that my state of sobriety has nothing to do with what I said previously, and am quite sure that if I was doing anything it sure wasn't "yakking".

I would suggest that you get intouch with Seun so that he could create something like a Shakespeare or Brutus forum for you where you could show the world how educated you are. If the way we talk in this forum is not conducive enough for you then please leave. I would like to ask you something, do you think that you can actually stand up to most of the members who responded to your post in pidgin english when it comes to real English grammar? If you have been under that impression then I suggest you have a rethink.

Well enough of all that. Lets get on with enjoying this forum and making it more of a lobby than a lecture hall.

Guy lets be easy on ourselves in this forum. The idea of a prospective employer searching through this board for candidates to employ is quite absurd. That employer must be set for an uphill task. From where will he/she start? Maybe by posting a topic that reads

"tipsydude, darqly, diyobdw, mustay.

The above listed members of Nairaland have distinguished themselves from the crowd by their impeccable use of both Queen's and Shakespearean English and are hereby invited to the address below for immediate employment. "

Let's give ourselves a break here. We all know that can't happen. It would be like what diyobdw pointed out which is : having to dress formal to a night club in case you happen to meet your future employer there.

The essence of using abbreviations, slangs and pidgin in this forum is just to pass a message across in the most jovial manner possible. It keeps the forum lively and creates a very conducive atmosphere for free interaction.

But please we all should have it at the back of our minds that frequent use of pidgin makes one loose grip on the real formal way of speaking English. Though it depends on a lot.

So dudes and ladies nuttin dey paa. flow as u fit flow. u must not be shakespeare before u get a job unless d job na 2 be english prof 4 harvard.

[b]Wow!!! I have been following the heated argument about "My Name Is" and "My Names Are" and I must confess it has been quite entertaining. I never new Nigeria had quite a number of English purists trying to outdo themselves here over this topic. I would suggest that all the grammarians in the house start conducting private English lessons for those about to take T.O.E.F.L. .

So back to the topic on board. I believe that lots of us create problems for ourselves. If one is not sure of what to say in such situations, I believe that the question put to you would point out the way you should follow. If you are asked "what IS your name?" For pete's sake responding with "my names ARE" will be 100% wrong and vice versa. But where you are required to make an introduction of yourself without being asked any of the above mentioned questions, I think it would be wise you stick to the simple option of "My Name Is" instead of trying to impress upon people your self-professed English skill. You just might be making matters worse for yourself by forcing the interviewer to introduce words, phrases and cliches (some of which might actually be wrong) that you have never encountered in all your days on earth.

I believe an Interview is not an avenue to show of one's prowess in English, but an avenue to prove your ability to communicate. Whenever one introduces the use of hi-tech grammar like "My Names Are", communication is breached. Rather you would be speaking in tongues.[/b]

dude i don't really know wats difficult 2 understand 4rm dat instruction.if the instruction reads "FAILURE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTION WILL NOT ATTRACT ANY PENALTY" it simply implies dat skippin a tough question or shading d wrong anwser 2 dat question aint gonna pull u down. simple.do not 4get dat another instruction states "ATTEMPT ALL QUESTIONS".if u r quite conversant wit aptitude tests, u shuld know dat where there is gonna be some negative markings, u will be instructed 2 leave those questions u do not know.do not 4get dat it is highly recommended dat 4 tests dat instruct u 2 answer all, leavin any blank space is kinda stupid cos u stand a beta chance by guessing and shading than by leavin it blank.so pls wheneva u com across such an instruction, do not hesitate 2 guess where u aint sure.u neva know u might guess right.

all am saying is dat d second instruction lends credence 2 d first so bro relax and eliminate those conspiracy theories dat r building up in ur mind.

lagos by 10AM Prompt." d date indicated there is supposed 2 be 23rd and not 23th. then their instructions which starts with "You were required to come with the following:" is d interview a thing of d past or is it that they dont know their tenses? then instruction numba 4 contradicts 1 to 3. it aint properly phrased and it starts with low case and not caps indicating that it is an afterthought. furthermore, d area to note has bad construct and phrasing, besides wat d hell is negociable? if they mean dat d salary which is negotiable will be communicated 2 u at a l8r date with details of employment, y then state that it is above 50k? they also stated dat candidates 4rm d states that have been listed and infact from d entire south and east r guaranteed employment, it leaves one 2 wonder which organization wuld employ nuttin less than 2000 pple at a time? finally, they closed with "[s]the above information you are required,[/s]". for pete's sake wat kind of dudes thought of this? they beta go back 2 d skool of scam. its rather very unfortunate that scammers now use dis forum 2 scam job seekers. i wuld suggest dat d owner of dis site and d moderator shuld put up measures 2 remove such dubious posts by scammers in dis forum. we have 2 look out 4 each other men. have a nice day.
