Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has said he did not say the truth when he alleged that the sum of $49.8 billion realized from the sales of crude oil between January 2012 and July 2013 has been missing from the federation account. Sanusi who appeared before Senate Committee on Finance said $12 billion was the amount not to have been remitted to the account within the period. But the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr.Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala swiftly countered him. The Minister of Finance, said “I just wanted to add that we found about $10.8 billion. He mentioned $12billion.” The now embarrassed CBN Governor told the Senator Ahmed Makarfi led Committee, “I repeat, Mr. Chairman, that we did not see the letter as a conclusion of our investigation but an invitation to investigate. So, the conclusion that $49.8billion was missing was wrong even though we had the allegation that it was unremitted.”“Now, since then, a lot has happened. We have heard the Minister of Finance, Minister of Petroleum Resources,Central Bank, FIRS, CPR, we have set up technical team and has started a process of reconciliation and there has been a lot of progress in that process.“I found it very unfortunate it was leaked to the press and the answer is ‘yes’, the CBN Governor did send that letter with those contents. By way of those contents, the Central Bank and Finance Ministry and the government were very much concerned over the years at the very low rate of accretion to the reserves in spite of very high level of oil prices and in particular, depletion of excess crude account in spite of what seems to be very high level of oil sales. “Now, in investigation and trying to understand where those leakages were, our attention was drawn to a huge difference between what appeared to be export of crude made by NNPC and amount repatriated into the crude equity account of the federal government. “The numbers were about $65 billion exported by NNPC and about $15 billion repatriated to Federation Account out of that. Now, in view with our duty as the banker of the government, we had the responsibility of alerting the president and request a thorough investigation of this matter, he said.He further explained that “the major progress has been the provision of Monetary Policy Committee, PMC, by the MPC documents to show that even though they did ship that amount in question which is a little more $67 billion, about $24billion was actually not their crude but crude shipped on behalf of third parties like oil companies, tax in crude and also for third party financing and so, that already addresses half of the amount.”So, the second half is the issues around domestic crude lifting of $28billion from which we feel there is a short fall, there is a general consensus among us on this even though the amount has been disputed. For us in Central Bank, there is a shortfall of $12billion”, he disclosed. But even with the amount, he said the CBN was still in the process of reconciling the amount. “Now, we still are in the process of trying to reconcile that number and we have not even started talking of the sales, the export sales tax, which is about $2billion, which will come after the sales. The Finance Ministry has told us that even before now, there is ongoing negotiation and discretion with NNPC ad-hoc committee and these numbers have always been discussed at the level of Commissions of Finance. “Since the objective of this committee and for all of us on this side is actually to get to the bottom of it and find out exactly what is the amount unremitted and what is to be done and recommend actions.” He pleaded for time so that the CBN, NNPC and all relevant agencies come up with a collective figure. “What I would like to do is, given the progress we have made, to request that we be given little more time to continue with this process and come back with the final position that is a common position among us if the committee will so grant us, ”he added; He was subsequently granted the request.Speaking at the event earlier, Senate President, David Mark, noted that thecontroversial amount was still allegation but stressed that it was aserious one.“At this point what we have is allegations but it’s a serious allegation. When Senator Adetumbi raised the point of order, I did not allow comment on the issue “It’s for us to get facts so that when we come back we can make useful and meaningful contributions. The Senate has no positions on it, nobody knows apart from what was published in the papers, that’s why we want the committee to establish the facts, the committee, your body language and utterances must be seen to be totally neutral because we have no facts, we have no position on it, we urge you to observe the facts, “he said. http://pointblanknews.com/pbn/exclusive/sanusi-backtracks-says-n1-9-trillion-not-n8-trillion-oil-money-missing/ |
ABU SO FINE SO UNIQUE. |
One lady celebrity was quoted expressly voicing out her desperately desire for a husband when she exclaimed“oh! GOD I NEED A HUSBAND”. I will say boldly that she is not alone, as it is the desperate desire of many ladies to settle down with a man in marriage. Many of them had reached the highest pinnacle in their career but are not happy because they needed husband. It is unfortunate that many of them looked on GOD as been responsible for their not been married. Of a truth,GOD is never responsible for a lady not been married and will never be responsible. I will by this write up try to x-ray things that may cause delay in marriage for some ladies. Spirit husband: a lady may package herself very well, past life style may be wonderful, and may be in her correct age, nice job etc yet may still not get a man to marry her if she has a spirit husband in her. I will say and continue to emphasize it, that the issue of spirit husband is responsible and major cause of delayed marriage by many ladies. This is because many spirit husbands never allow their host lady to marry (see my article on you and spirit husband/wife for details). Curse/spell: some ladies by their past life style might have done some terrible things in the past that may have attracted curse/spell on their lives. Such curse/ spell does hinder ladies from getting married. For instance a lady who dated a married man may have been caused by the man’s wife. (See articles on top reasons why some lady may never marry.) Lost opportunity: I wish to point out that many ladies who are still single though they ought to have been married are those who may have lost their opportunities earlier in life of been married. You see, most ladies when they were in their twenties, were so arrogant that they treated young men who wish to marry them with disrespect. This was because at that period of their lives, they were on top of their world and men were pestering them. But instead of going with young men who would have later married them, they prefer to move with sugar daddies. (Not all of them anyway). This is a bitter truth to say, and if some ladies in their late thirties today should look back in life, they will agree with me that their past life style cost them to miss most of their opportunities of been married earlier in life. Poor packaging: some ladies package themselves so badly or poorly that no man will ever show interest in them as to marry them. (See article on “my lady, so you wish to marry” for details on packaging). You will agree with me, before a man will say I want to marry you, you must have appealed and attracted the man in the first place. But in a situation by reason of poor packaging, you may have scared potential men away, who may have married you and that‘s why you are still single. Past life style: The past life styles of most ladies are nothing to write home about and may be the cause or posse hindrances for them in getting married now. As said earlier, when they were in their twenties, they were on top of their world and may have rejected many potential husband that time who may have requested for their hand in marriage. Many by their past life- may be sleeping around with men that potential husband may had passed by and see them as cheap article and public toilet. Of a truth, most ladies are like that even now. They easily jump into bed with any man that throws currency at them. Note that you are a very cheap article for any man who conquers you in bed for money sake. Over packaging: Most ladies fall into of what I call over packaging. Such ladies, you may see them today in Paris, tomorrow in London, and next tomorrow in New York. For such ladies, it will take the grace of GOD for them to marry because men who are in their class are but few in number. Their profiles are outstanding that average men are intimidated already. For such class of ladies above, can you imagine a young graduate no matter his age that had never seen the inside of a plane who will summon courage to propose to such lady? Not that those ladies doesn’t get suitors, but you know very well that as a high class lady, such men are not in your class and are far below your standard. Such marriages never work unless the lady will accept to fly across the globe with the man. Otherwise she would be ready to sacrifice a lot because she had to forgo certain life style for the man’s sake. CAUTION: Never for the sake of marriage you marry a man far below your class or standard, unless the man is willing and ready to learn and adjust to your standard within the shortest time. If you ever marry a man who is not willing to adjust to your standard, you may have to adjust to the man’s standard if the marriage is to work. I said in one of my write ups, as a lady never show desperation over the issue of marriage or you will see a man who capitalizes on it to defraud you and break your heart BE WISE AND CAUTIOUS. culled from: marriage evergreenblog. |
The defeated candidate of CPC in the 2011 presidential election and the leader of APC, Maj Gen. Buhari met with Gen Olusegun Obasanjo saturday night in Otta, in Ogun state on invitation of former president Pointblanknews.com has learnt . This is coming on the heel of Obasanjo’s 18 page “letter bomb” to president Jonathan that is still generating a lot of heat in the polity. Political feelers are now coming to terms that the actions of the G-7, House speaker’s recent utterances about Jonathan’s body language and corruption, CBN governor’s letter about some missing monies at the NNPC, and Obasanjo’s letter might all be from the same script. Even though the agenda of the meeting was not known ,It was however clear the duo would talk about the political developments, Jonathan, and 2015. The meeting is also a curious one as it is between Obasanjo and a leader of the opposition. It has also left tongues wagging as to the intentions of Obasanjo, who after his “letter bomb” found it apprpriate to meet with Jonathan at a private breakfast in Nairobi, Kenya next day. culled from: Pointblanknews. |

Northern Nigerian Muslims have come under fire from criticand academic, Prof. Pius Adesanmi, for allegedly practising a retrogressive brand of Islam as opposed to the progressive brand practised elsewhere in the world. Adesanmi, a Professor of English at Carleton University,Canada, wondered how this could be happening in a region that boasts first class brains such as Central bank Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, former FCT Minister Nasir El Rufai, former EFCC Chairman Nuhu Ribadu, and rights activist Shehu Sani. Adesanmi, who poured out his mind on his Facebook wall, drew attention to the technological wonders taking place in Muslim countries in the Middle East whereas the unprogressive brand of Islam practised in Northern Nigeria has made the region to “harbour the world’s worst indices of poverty, backwardness, and underdevelopment.”Said Prof. Adesanmi: “You go to Dubai, Kuwait City, and the cities of Saudi Arabia and you see hypermodernity at work. You see futuristic architectural marvels. You see art meeting genius and invention in the planning and ordering of cities. You hear the loudest possible statement of the fact that Islam and modernity are not enemies – at least as far as the conceptualization of the cities of the future is concerned. You read frequently about the marvels that Qatar intends to unleash on the world when she hosts the World Cup in 2022. Qatar is unleashing all kinds of futuristic stadia and buildings which are expanding the borders of human imagination. All over the oil states in the Gulf, the guys making the West pant in an attempt to catch up with the hypermodernity of the oil states are in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. Proud, cosmopolitan Moslems, they return from Yale, Princeton, Harvard, Columbia, Stanford, Oxbridge, and LSE to take the Gulf States into the 22nd century ahead of the rest of us. Tokyo pants, out of breath, trying to catch up with Dubai’s hypermodernity. Indonesia, the world’s most populous Moslem nation, is also rapidly hypermodernizing. Then, in the name of the same Islam, some idiots in the political elite whose warrens in Northern Nigeria harbour the world’s worst indices of poverty backwardness, and underdevelopment are breaking beer bottles and building mosques and madrassas with the same oil money in the 21st century. We must ask them: just what sort of Islam are you practicing that is superior to that of the House of Saud? You can’t help feeling that powerful, cosmopolitan, and first class minds such as we have in Nasir El Rufai, Nuhu Ribadu, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Shehu Sani, etc, have failed. How can such stellar cerebral minds be there and we don’tfeel the collective impact of their presence on any kind of governance vision for the North? Where is the infusion of their thought into the vision of their society? What sort of advice are they giving the premedieval breakers of bottles and the builders of mosques with Federal allocation? How can these guys be there and the she-goat is left to suffer the pains of parturition before their very before? Are they not collectively embarrassed by what passes for progress and development in the minds of the political leaders of that region? El Rufai and Ribadu are frequent callers in Dubai. What do they tell their friends in the local Dubai elite at dinner table whenever those guys begin to talk about the next phase of development plans for Dubai with their oil money? Do they behave like the toad who changes the topic whenever dinner conversation begins to praise animals with tails? http://www.newsexpressngr.com/news/detail.php?news=3700&title=Northern-Muslims-under-fire-%E2%80%A2Prof.-Adesanmi-queries-Ribadu,-Sanusi,-El-Rufai,-etc |

North Jubilates As PDP Govs Defect To APC There appears to be silent jubilation in the North as the “rebel” governors in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) declare for the All Progressive Congress (APC). Pointblanknews.com reports that politicians and kingmakers in the North receive the news with happiness as they see it as a step further towards the realization of northern presidency. National Assembly Matters adviser to ex-president Shehu Shagari in the Second Republic, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai said the latest defection would bring vibrancy in the polity. Also, former President of Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, and member of the APC in Jigawa state, Malam Sani Zorro described the development as a plus to Nigeria’s democracy. Yakasai said the defection of the G-7 governors to the APC is an eye-opener to the PDP leadership who would now be forced to buckle up and face realities. “The implication is that the PDP is now down 18, instead of 22, APC will now have 16 governors. One can project that the governorship election in 2015 will be altered as the PDP may lose four states, Sokoto, Kano, Rivers and Adamawa.” He further noted that it is not yet victory for the APC as there is much work to do on integrating and harmonizing the new comers with the old members of the party. Sani Zorro in his views said the option taken by the defecting governors was welcome development to the nation’s democracy. “It is a testimony to the progressive political development in the history of Nigeria in recent times,” pointing out that the birth of APC, “is the fourth merger out of so many that have been tried and has failed since 1981 to date, where so many efforts were made by the progressives to come together but this time, it has come to stay. I congrate the defecting governors for their determination and foresight. I also congratulate the leadership APC for forging the alliance of three parties.” Source: http://pointblanknews.com/pbn/exclusive/north-jubilates-as-pdp-govs-defect-to-apc/ |
boy is attracted to girls. A man is attracted to women. Now, this has nothing to do with the actual age of a person. I'm referring to maturity, life vision and stage of life. In fact, some people regardless of their age, will never really grow up. Also, this isn't to say that a woman won't ever have "girlish" or immature tendencies or vice versa. This post refers to one's maturity and most points would also apply if you switch the genders as well. If you are a boy, then expect that you will attract only girls. However, if you are a man (independent, knows your worth and value, has a strong moral compass, is considerate and an able communicator and doesn't let insecurity dominate your psyche), then you should be dating a woman. And if you can't spot the difference just yet, here are some pointers: 1. A girl throws tantrums. When displeased, upset or angry, she reacts just as she did as a child when she didn't get her way with her parents. This often consists of screaming, pouting, giving the silent treatment, being passive aggressive and/or punishing. A woman still feels the emotions of being upset/displeased, but has cultivated the skill of responding versus reacting. She comes to the table as an adult, and communicates clearly what is bothering her. 2. A girl perceives herself as a princess and believes people should treat her like so. She is entitled and feels that she is owed and therefore expects more than she appreciates. A woman, has standards (what she holds herself to) not expectations (what she projects on to others). 3. A girl uses her physical beauty as her currency and basis of value. A girl may be so used to feeling validated through her looks and sexuality, that she uses this as her primary tool to get what she wants in life. A woman, knows her worth is beyond her physicality. A woman bases her value on her intelligence, her strength, her integrity, her values, her contributions, her humanity. 4. A girl banks on a man to be her financial strategy. A woman plans to be financially independent -- she banks on... herself. And if she so happens to enter a relationship dynamic where it makes sense for her partner to be the primary breadwinner, it's considered a bonus, not the expected life line. 5. A girl sees the world from a place of lack and scarcity. She competes and will even tear down another in order to secure resources or a mate. A woman helps other women. She knows that there's plenty enough to go around and takes the high road of integrity to get what she wants. 6. A girl cannot be bothered with anything domestic and is proud of the fact that she cannot cook or clean. A woman understands that being domestic is not a duty, but understands that it is one way of taking care of herself and others. She also understands that in the event she wants to create a family, having a person in the household who can contribute domestically is important. 7. "A girl wants attention, a woman wants respect. A girl wants to be adored by many. A woman wants to be adored by one." -anonymous 8. A girl does not respect her body. She has not yet understood that her body and heart are sacred, and that it's important to be mindful of how she treats it and who she shares it with. "A girl cherishes handbags, diamonds and her shoe collection as her prize possessions. A woman cherishes her health, her sense of self, and her talents as her greatest assets." - N. Mah 9. A woman takes the time to reflect on the type of human she wants to be, the example she wants to leave and the vision for her life. She has put thought into her values and what she stands for. A girl has not established her moral compass or values and consequently, is often inconsistent. "After spending time with a girl, you feel exhausted because she takes more than she gives. After spending time with a woman, you feel invigorated, because she empowers you with possibility, and a passion for life." - N. Mah 10. A girl has a checklist that prioritizes superficial qualities above anything else. Here is an example of how this checklist may look: Hot, popular, wears skinny jeans, over six feet tall, rich.. This is the checklist of what a woman may look for: High integrity, intelligent, kind, good communicator, emotionally available... Now, a lot of these differences require taking the time to know someone to figure out if the apple of your eye is indeed a mature woman, or someone with an immature mindset. However, one of the quickest filters that you can notice from the beginning is this: 11. A girl plays games. A woman doesn't. Culled from Huffpost. |
Nairobi, Kenya: Irene Myangoh, a personal assistant working at a law firm in Nairobi went to an upmarket hair salon along Kenyatta Avenue, and spent more than N5,500 on a human hair weave. Two weeks later she started suffering from severe headache that would not go away. She would wake up with severe headache at night. She went to a private doctor who gave her drugs for the relief of mild to moderate pain of inflammatory origin with or without fever; they would only work for a few hours and then the headache would be back worse than even before. Desperate, she went to see a specialist who did blood tests and even a brain scan. All the tests were negative but the headache persisted, making her unable to concentrate at work and sleeping very poorly. She went back to her doctor who decided to examine her scalp and under the beautiful weave he found worms! The worms were burrowing into her skull and after sending the samples to the lab they found that the hair had eggs from which the worms had hatched. The doctor told her that the hair was probably from a corpse because those worms are usually found on dead bodies. Efforts to reach her doctor for further comments were fruitless for he was said to be out of the country. The manager of the salon where Irene got the hair product was traumatised and said they had fitted ten weaves from the package already, adding that the particular batch of hair had sold very fast; in less than a month, she had sold over 150 pieces. “I am shocked to hear this because this is the first time such a thing is happening to my clients. I will get more information from my supplier because we import these weaves from the UK, USA and India,” says the salon manager who did not want to be mentioned. She continued to say: “Maybe, the supplier sent us rejects from the factory or weaves that had overstayed in the stores but I promise to follow up on the matter and compensate Irene.” Irene had to shave after this ordeal and took antibiotics for two weeks. Dr CK Musau, a surgeon at Nairobi hospital says that he has dealt with more than ten cases of the same in a period of six months. He further urges ladies to be very careful with what they put on their heads, and adds that it is better to appreciate natural beauty and be content with what God has blessed them instead of chasing artificial beauty. “It is unfortunate how the West has influenced Kenyan youth; especially ladies. They should stick to their natural African beauty as opposed to trying to ape what they see,” says Musau. Dr Musau reiterated that the youth must keep in mind that of late, Kenyans can sell anything: from body parts to human beings to used coffins and now even weaves that seem to come from corpses. Elsewhere, 16-year-old girl from Buruburu, a Nairobi surburb, also suffered the same fate but unfortunately for her she died. Cobweb eggs were found in her hair after she died. There was a profound cobweb design in her weaved hair. She dropped dead after constant headaches. The root cause? The weave had unnoticed spider eggs. The warmth produced after weaving provided a very conducive environment for the eggs to hatch. A spider grew in her scalp and bit her. The poison found its way to her blood. She could not survive the attack. Source: http://ireporterstv.co/shock-as-worm-infested-weaves-from-dead-people-find-their-way-into-the-market/ |
I thought the dearth of skilled manpower is only peculiar to Nigeria, never knew Britain suffer same. So where does this hype about their education system from? |
Eastern European immigrants should not be blamed for seeking jobs in UK factories when not enough young people in Britain are fully capable of doing the same jobs, David Cameron has said. The prime minister said half the workforce in some factories came from Poland, Lithuania or Latvia, as people from those countries wanted to work and were well qualified. During a trip to a Mini plant in Oxford on Monday, he said Britain's response should be to improve the education system "so we are producing young people out of our schools and colleges who are fully capable of doing those jobs". "You can go to factories in our country where half the people come from Poland, Lithuania or Latvia," Cameron said. "You can't blame them – they want to work, they see the jobs, they come over and they do them. "But as a country what we ought to be saying is: 'No, let's get our education system right so we are producing young people out of our schools and colleges who are fully capable of doing those jobs.'" He said the key was linking education, welfare reform and immigration, but there was a risk that some under-qualified young people would be left behind in the recovery. "Crack those three problems together and we can really get an economy that generates wealth for our people," he said. "The danger for a country like Britain is, yes, you see the economy recover, yes, you see jobs coming, but you leave behind people who have not got the right qualifications from school. I don't want that to happen in our country." The quest for the convocation of a national conference got a boost on Tuesday as the Senate said that steps should be taken to convene a national conference of ethnic nationalities.Source: http://thenationonlineng.net/new/senate-backs-convocation-of-national-conference/ |
The quest for the convocation of a national conference got a boost on Tuesday as the Senate said that steps should be taken to convene a national conference of ethnic nationalities . The upper chamber also lamented that those it described as political jobbers, sycophants, and hustlers have seized the country ’ s political space, and are being allowed to set the tone of national discourse ahead of 2015 general elections . Senate President, David Mark , stated this in an address to flag off a new session for the Senate . Though he counseled that Nigerians should make haste slowly and operate strictly within the parameters of the Constitution in discussion of the national question , Mark agreed that time has come for the country to meet to confront alleged structural distortions in the polity. Such a conference , he said , can find accommodation in the extant provisions of the 1999 Constitution which guarantee freedom of expression , and association . The only no go area at the conference , the Senate President noted, should be talk about dismemberment of the country . He , however , cautioned that it would be unconstitutional to clothe such a conference with constituent or sovereign powers . He said, “We live in very precarious times , and in a world increasingly made fluid and toxic by strange ideologies and violent tendencies , all of which presently conspire to question the very idea of the nation state . “ But that is not to say that the nation should , like the proverbial ostrich , continue to bury its head in the sand and refuse to confront the perceived or alleged structural distortions which have bred discontentment and alienation in some quarters . “ This sense of discontentment and alienation has fueled extremism , apathy and even predictions of catastrophy for our dear nation. ” A conference of Nigeria ’ s ethnic nationalities , called to foster frank and open discussions of the national question , can certainly find accommodation in the extant provisions of the 1999 Constitution which guarantee freedom of expression , and of association . “ To that extent, it is welcome . Nonetheless , the idea of a National Conference is not without inherent and fundamental difficulties . “ Problems of its structure and composition will stretch the letters and spirit of the Constitution and severely task the ingenuity of our constitutionalists . ” On the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) , the Senate President urged the lawmakers to spare a thought “for the plight of our youths who are idling away because of the closure of universities due to the ASUU strike. He said, “The morass in the education sector is deeply troubling not only because it is retarding the educational progress of millions of our children , but also because it arrests the intellectual development of our nation, with grave consequences for the future. “ While appreciating the tremendous merit in the case put forth by ASUU we call on its leaders to return to class , while pragmatic negotiations to address their grievances continue . “ The Senate will invest the full weight of its moral and constitutional authority to nudge both the Federal Government and ASUU towards a comprehensive settlement that addresses , in a realistic manner , the problems afflicting tertiary education in our country . ” Source: http://thenationonlineng.net/new/senate-backs-convocation-of-national-conference/ |

The Lagos State Government has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court against the judgments delivered by the Appeal Court in favour of Major Hamza Al-Mustapha and Lateef Shofolahan in the murder case of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola. The Appeal Court, a month ago, upturned the judgment of the High Court of Lagos which passed death sentence on Al-Mustapha and Shofolahan. At news a conference today at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ade Ipaye said the state government formally filed an appeal at the Supreme Court on Monday against the two judgments delivered by the Appeal Court. “The Lagos State Ministry of Justice has filed appeal papers against the judgments delivered by the Court of Appeal in the cases of Lateef Shofolahan vs The State and Al-Mustapha vs The State,” he said. Ipaye noted that the government had indeed studied the two judgments delivered by the Appeal Court very closely and concluded that there were grounds for appeal, which made the government to formally file the appeal at the Supreme Court on Monday. “Having fully reviewed the decisions of the respected Justices of the Court of Appeal, it is our humble view there are strong bases for appeal which the Supreme Court of Nigeria should have an opportunity to consider,” Ipaye stated. The Attorney General said the step the government was taking would also ensure that all issues were fully articulated and that the victim’s family, the defendants and the society were not deprived of the last window of opportunity provided by the constitution for the resolution of the case. The commissioner added that government was committed to ensuring that law abiding residents and visitors continued to live, work and pursue their various aspirations in a safe and secure environment. Al-Mustapha, the former chief security officer to the late head of state, General Sani Abacha, and Lateef Shofolahan, Kudirat’s aide, were accused of masterminding the assassination of Mrs. Kudirat Abiola, wife of Chief MKO Abiola, acclaimed winner of the 12 June, 1993 presidential election, and were sentenced to death by a High Court in Lagos. They were arrested in 1999 and their trial dragged for fourteen years before they were set free in July this year. The National Council of Catholic Women Organisation of Nigeria on Thursday warned against the alarming drop of male-child in education. With the drop, the group noted that in the next 10 years, there would be a scarcity of quality husbands in the country. The organisation National President, Chief Felicia Onyeabo, stated this on Thursday at a briefing to herald the inauguration of Cor Mariae College, Abuja. The inauguration holds on Friday (today). She said, "The future of this country is going to be very bleak for the male-child. How many girls do you see hawking clothes? Go to Onitsha, they are all men. We have looked round and have come to see that there is a neglect of boys in education. Who are the armed robbers on the streets? They are mostly the boys. Let us concentrate on training boys. "The NCCWO feels that a vacuum is being created, and very soon, we shall be faced with a situation where our educated girl-child will not find a corresponding suitable boy-child to marry. This is because more boys drop out of school, apparently because the high rate of unemployed youth discourages our young boys from appreciating the need to be educated. "The NCCWO also consideres the fact that in the near future, quality husbands will become extremely scarce, with too many highly educated women looking for husbands, and settling for anyhow husbands, just to get married. The result of this type of situation is better imagined and will not augur well for Nigerians." http://www.punchng.com/news/husbands-will-be-scarce-by-2023-women-group/ |

The National Coordinator, Coalition of Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, has flayed, the Northern Elders’ Forum and the Arewa Consultative Forum for their insistence that the north must produce a president in 2015. According to him, the clamour for a northern president will add no value to the region, just like the IBB, Abdusalami’s military eras did not add any value to the region. Junaid stated that the electorate should be allowed to elect who will rule them. He stated that he was not against the two bodies, provided their goal was realized in a credible manner. His words, “Not everybody who speaks on behalf of the North is actually speaking the heart of the North. When you check the credentials of these people, who are they to speak for the North? How many times have they won any form of election?” He condemned the military regimes of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida and Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar, which, he said did not favour the region. He said, “Of what use was IBB’s tenure as Head of State? What benefit did be bring to the North, I want to know? Tell me what he did for the North. If these are the kind of people the North wants to bring to government, then, they should forget about me. They should excommunicate me and say I’m not a northerner. “I only want people who are fair, honest and patriotic; who will treat everybody fairly, not because they are northerners. I have seen some honourable Governors and I have seen some very horrible Governors.” He said, “Neither Obasanjo nor all those clamouring for return of power to the North are speaking for the North. Those who are saying power must go to the North (in 2015) are not democrats. Anybody who insists that power must go to somewhere by circumventing the principle of free and fair election is not a democrat.” On the alleged single term deal signed by president Jonathan, Junaid said, “I was neither the president nor a governor; that shows that I was not present at the meeting. Dr. Edwin Clark and some people who were not governors at that point in time were not at the meeting but they were the ones denying the pact. “The President has not come out to say no, there was no such thing. But, the governors said there is an agreement. Most of those talking were not part of the meeting and no amount of noise making by anybody will settle the issue,” Mohammed said. Six northern organisations – Arewa Consultative Forum and the Northern Elders’ Forum, Arewa Reawakening Forum, Arewa Research and Development Project, Northern Union and the Code Group – had on July 16, 2013, insisted that the North must produce the nation’s President in 2015. The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) Chairman and Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has denied reports making the rounds in some media that himself and four of his colleagues were pelted and held hostage at the Port Harcourt International Airport, by some sponsored political miscreants. Although he acknowledged that some pro and anti-Amaechi youths, carrying placards with various inscriptions were at the airport on their arrival, Governor Aliyu said nothing was done to them as they drove, with Governor Amaechi driving, through the city and even inspected some on-going projects being executed by the governor. While wondering where such a ridiculous story might have emanated from, the NSGF Chairman disclosed that they were in River State to ascertain the issues and appreciate the challenges Governor Amaechi was facing in the state amidst recent political crisis that engulfed it. Governor Aliyu, who spoke when he received on a courtesy call, members of the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) at Government House, Minna, said what was happening in Rivers State was an assault to the Nigerian constitution in particular and democracy in general. The NSGF Chairman stressed the need for a collective effort to nurture the nascent and fragile democracy in the country stressing that the political situation in Rivers State could be easily resolved internally but for the external influences in the matter. He wondered why the Rivers State Police Commissioner was so much involved in what purely was a political matter and suggested that he might not have behaved the way he did without support from elsewhere.
