Onegai: comtem2011, the issue is how sensitive they will get the more you continue to refuse their offers of help. You have to tread carefully so they don't say you think you are better than them and that is why you refuse their offers of help. Mehnnn...what is meruwa water, or is it something I don't want to know the meaning 1a. List the types of water Pure water Bottled water Dispenser water Boiled water Tap/water board water Rain water Well water Meruwa water 1b. Define mai ruwa water Mai ruwa water is thé water (ruwa) that is fetched by the water man (mai ruwa). He fetches plenty water from a place we don't know into plenty jericans which he then pushes about from place to place for people to buy. Please you people should score me! |

comtem2011: Wonderful mamas, thanks for all the prayers, I really appreciate you all. Olamide is now hale and hearty.
The result of the test shows he has infection and antibiotics was prescribed for him to be taken for ten days.
My assumption of how he got infected, though I might be wrong but I will share it.
Jejely o On Saturday, I was about climbing a bike to go get some foodstuffs. I carried my baby with me since his father was not around. As I was climbing the bike o, one of our neighbor asked me to bring him so she can back him till I come back. They have been trying to carry him since I gave birth to him but I always avoid that cos they are extremely neat (make I no talk another thing) and all their kids had this cough that refuse to go for a long time. But that day, I was hell in a tight corner, couldn't say no (they are also our church member and she is our home cell minister).
That's how he collected him and I headed straight to the market. I didn't stay long cos my mind was with him. When I came back, and i went there to carrry him, I met him at the of their grandmother sleeping. She said she would bring him when he wakes up, I said Ok thank you ma. Went back home, but just praying that they should not give him anything to eat or drink cos of their extreme neatness.
Only for the woman to bring him after 20mins and told me to teach him how to be taking water from cup, that he gave him water from cup and he doesn't know how to drink it but she helped him. Oh my God, my hubby must not hear this cos he has warned me against it already. I just said thank you ma. And this is the family that when they drink water in d home cell, they will pass the cup of water round and give same cup to any child that cares to drink.
And this is the boy that I don't just give him any water. If its not bottle water, I give him sachet water (boil it myself). Now the water they gave him was all these Meruwa water!!
That's was how vomiting started on sunday night o, terrible one that the father almost cried. I just kept it to myself, took him to the hospital that night.
Never will I try it again whether its d cause or not. Not that he can't even drink from cup o, but I have seen him in two occasions that my friend wanted to give him the same drink his baby was drinking, but he refused.
Sorry for my long ranting, I just have to let it out cos its really bother my mind. Chesus. My body is just doing me one kind on your behalf. How can you give another person's child meruwa water? Who does that? |

Onegai: Anoint with oil, leave to soak in, then comb out gently. I learnt that here when we had Cradle cap. That's why I recommend the Search. I may have been part of that conversation because that was the solution that worked. The cradle cap went in less than a week, and now I wash daily. I was only sharing my experience of when I stopped washing his hair twice a day and how it led to cradle cap. With the way my grandma embarrassed me, i'd rather risk him having strong hair by daily washing than have a recurrence of cradle cap @rofemiguwa. Thank God he's a boy self, make hair strong if e like, we're cutting it at six months. Does hair being strong not have anything to do with genetics? as per hair type. I'm 4c, hubby is 4c, so i don't expect my son to have 2a type of hair. The guy has already inherited male pattern baldness from me self. |

sugarcanebaby: Good evening all. I'm glad I stumbled in this group. I've been learning a lot especially as a first time mom. My dear son needs to take the rotavirus vaccine and pneumococcal conjugate. The private hospital I use says it's 16500. What exactly is there usefulness of the vaccine and who knows where I can get it cheaper? I live around palmgrove Lagos.
Cc: alphahandmaiden, onegai, helovesme etc Pcv is now free at gov't hospitals. Rota is not, I believe I paid 7,500 at a gov't hospital in Abuja. Helovesme has highlighted usefulness of the vaccines. PCV is for pneumonia, rota is for diarrhea. Private hospitals are less stressful for immunisation, but beware of price. For our six weeks immunisation we spent about 36k at a private hospital. The same shots cost I think 12k at gov't health centre. |

dtush: Good Day House,
Mamas please i need your advise. Since the day i gave birth to my madam( She was 13months on sunday). I have not slept throughout the night. We finally stopped breastfeeding almost two weeks now. But nothing has changes. She wakes up about 3 to 4 times every night. I am sleep deprived. She sleeps around 9:30pm/10pm, den she is up by 11:30/12ish. I give her her bottle with warm milk and she sleeps back. She wakes up around 2am ish, and i give her her bottle with gerber apple juice. she sleeps back or i have to change her diaper if its wet. ( she hates wet diapers, so even if she has pee d just once, we either have to change it or just open it for fresh air, den reseal after about 5 mins).
Third time around, she wakes up about 5am ish, she takes her cereal or gerber yogurt with water den she sleeps back.
And you best believe she wakes up crying oo. except she gets those thgs.
And this is a girl, dat we have to force to eat during the day. We have to sing and play her fav cartoon ( dr macstuffins theme song to get her to eat.
What can i do, cos i need to sleep. I had to move her crib into my room cos standing up to go to her room became too tedious. Infact after the first time she wakes up and i pick her from her crib, she ends up in my bed.
Any suggestion is fine please. Convention says you're spoiling her. If you don't want her to eat at night, suffer for two weeks. Give only water and endure her crying. From all that everyone says, they will happily sleep through the night or take only water if you force them to. However, all children are different. My niece rejected food all day, so we pumped her with food all night. She used to take at least 4 bottles of cereal at night. Note that my sister had a lot of support, she always had family to help out with the night feeds. So mama please pick a method that your power can carry sha. |

BritneyStacy: Mamas in the house....can we do this research together and see what we can gather...I read a medical article on reader's digest that soymilk or soya beans is not too safe for children less than a YEAR especially boys because of its high doses of estrogen!! The article specifically mentioned that it should not be used as a replacement for infant formula... High level of estrogen present in Soya bean in boys delays and can even inhibit their sexual maturity and can lead to low sperm production in later life. High doses in baby Girls caused premature puberty ..... Tried verifying it on Google and saw articles towing that line too...

good morning dear mothers, how are you all doing I'm learning so much from this group thanks a lot pls i want to ask a question my lo of 4months and 2weeks on EBF does not wee as much as before, she can stay through out the night and her diaper will be almost dry till 9am when I bath her for the morning ,same thing in the day she can use a diaper till night and it's almost dry not cos the diaper is super absorbing it started close to a week now cos it was not so before, the weather is hot but I don't over dress her and even when the weather is cool it's still the same dry diaper also she feed a lot these days and seems like she is not full could it indicate she is not getting enough milk? pls ur advice is very needed to help me know what to do,thank you We're in the same boat o! I just want to add that you should also check to ensure fontanelle (soft spot) is not sunken. This is my source of reassurance since lo's diapers started drying up, also when he was 4 months 2 weeks. It could be the heat since on cold nights he pees more. We're doing mixed feeding so lo drinks water already (even though i try to limit quantity). Yesterday i went for a party and drank a lot of juice and water. lo's diaper was soaked this morning. But yesterday night was also very cold so can't conclude. Its true that he pees more when awake. Between when we wake, bathe and finish dressing, he pees up to three times sometimes. But the pee is concentrated, not clear like it used to be. I even thought it's because of formula, so surprised to hear an ebf baby going through same (Even though weekends we bf only and I've not noticed any difference). Since your lo is ebf sha i suggest you drink more fluids, because the weather is really hot. Based on yesternight's experience personally i will be drinking 1 liter of water between when i return from work and when i sleep at night. But if you're staying up north (harmattan has arrived and so everywhere is really dry), in my opinion please give the child water (clean water, probably boiled and cooled). In my opinion sha. I once heard a story (unverified) of an ebf baby who died from dehydration in Sokoto. (unverified story o). As for feeding a lot without getting full, it could be a growth spurt, but you may have to up your game in milk production. A lot of hints have been dropped on this thread for ways to increase production. Then also ask yourself, is lo really eating, or he just wants an excuse to cling. At about the age of your lo mine started staying permanently on breast all night. When you remove his moth and drop him on his bed he wakes up. How can a child want mouth on my breast all night? Do i look like a pacifier? I had to stay awake for about 2 nights to break the habit. Although I don't know if it was my actions, or if he has just outgrown the phase. |

VEE992: Mama thank you for stopping by o... How much is the infacol and how do i administer it? Sorry but what is grip water It's gripe water. I used it sha, but on this thread we've agreed to disagree that it's a placebo. In my opinion your best bet against colic is burping the child properly and constantly. I might not be the best person to give advice, because I'm suspecting I had it easy. I burped him all the time, whenever he acted gassy I gave gripe water, and it was easier for him to burp and fart. Also elevated his head whenever possible. Then bicycle riding with his legs. And burping. There was a time all I did was burp him. I even developed extra muscles. |

sugah: Ozycy The story too plenty and some I'm even reluctant to share online...and we have only been together 1month. She was sourced by my DH through our former house cleaner baba (they claim they are family friends but they have same surname....so I'm guessing she's his daughter)
1...What's the age range of the nanny......she's 27 (lied to my DH she was 25 but saw her real age when I asked to see her ID) 2..what is the pay range.....Her 2 previous employers were expatriates and she was paid 40k. So that's what we pay her 3..Are they live in or non live in....started off as non live in but she always showed up hours late with excuses so we had to make her live in 3a. If none live in, what is their work time? 3b. If live in, how many days off do they get in a Month?....We are still debating this one. Cos there are modalities involved.I work in a different state than I live, so when I'm at work even if she gets a day off she might not have anywhere to go to as she probably doesn't have family there. And when I'm not at work, twice a month. So she would get to go home 2 weekends in 3months. 4. Is their duty strictly taking care of your LO or do they do housechores too.....When I'm at work, she would only take care of my baby cos my work accommodation has a housekeeper. But at home she would do both.
I should have asked, what are your deal breakers and things you have to manage?
I'm having to manage really low IQ and insubordination. We have just concluded that her sleep habits (She sleeps like a log...sleeps comfortably standing upright in the kitchen) and lies are a deal breaker...if she doesn't change. My dh says my expectations are too high for a nanny and I should mange what I have. He says nobody with an average IQ would settle for being a nanny.
Abeg am I being too unrealistic? Is it not possible to get someone with a fairly average IQ that wouldn't turn me to a parrot?
Thanks coldfeet, I'd have to buy her a cream cos she bleaches. Haba, you've really tried. Low iq is bad enough, but insubordination? Please you need a new Nanny. You're not being unrealistic at all. |

You're supposed to give only bm or formula till 6 months. If you don't want to wait till then, 4 months is manageable. And even at 4 months rice, oats are preferable for their tender stomachs than corn (pap). Gerber makes these cereals for supported sitters. Signs your baby may be ready for cereal: Can hold head up Is double birth weight Can sit up (with assistance) Leans towards a spoon Shows interest in your food Does not push food out using their tongue. Please it's advisable you stop the pap for now. |

orirebaby: Cappo let me help with my little experience cos I really suffered from milk production too.
When I came across a video on Ask the paediatricians page on facebook that was what changed everything. That fine guy needs to suck that breast for milk to be fully established. He needs to suck the areola not even the tip it will be difficult but for your sanity you av to teach him and guess what the more he sucks the more bm that will be produced. Please if you are on fb look for the group and watch
Also about the stooling please you need to rule out infection cos bottle might be the culprit.
I have dumped expressing for a while now and guess what I was trying to give DD bm from spoon and cup yesterday the babe rejected it totally she is so used to tit now.
My dear no watching weight for now o if you are determined to breastfeed your baby to your satisfaction you need correct food well I might be wrong. Was watching my weight after birth when my doctor told me that I cant serve two Gods at the same time. Just include excercise and you will be fine. You need enough food for milk to be established dont limit yourself to certain classes of food. Our paed also told me that beans changes the taste of bm he sha talk plenty grammar dt day so he limited me to once a week.
I read somewhere that locust beans also boost production well since I was desperate for milk and I had nothing to lose I ate one tablespoon in the morning and another one at night, i was looking for my breast pad the next morning something I never thought I could use.
I hope this will hlp you or someone else. Sorry for my long post I watched my weight after birth sha. No pounded yam, no pap, no junk, small portions of food. My milk production was still good. I only started eating anyhow when I resumed work. The only thing that affects my milk is if lo is not sucking. So on Monday production is high, low on Friday. He sucks all through Saturday, Sunday milk is pouring everywhere, Monday we resume the cycle. |

BritneyStacy: My breakfast/ lunch is usually yam/rice pepper soup, beans and ripe plantain, unripe plantain cooked in different styles and then dinner is soup.... Fruits are occasionally. ..No junks either . My baby was also a frequent pooper during ebf. Pooing at least 4 times a day, runny poop but not watery. He'd eat, and poo immediately. I refused to get worried because he was adding weight nicely. Besides I have a very fast metabolism and I believe he inherited that. My diet was okay, and he uses cup and spoon when not feeding from the breast. Even when he started formula was same thing, just different consistency of poo. One day he stopped just like that and now poos max once daily. I believe he stopped last week (4 months 2 weeks). |

Bisoye82: What happened? So we can learn Hmmm. The babe's salary was 15k, her transport was 14,600. Agent said no P, i should manage the girl, she will replace her. Why agent did not calculate this before giving me nanny I don't know. So using my church mind i made the girl start coming on alternate days. Based on my laxity, she now took 3 days off by herself, without calling me. I called her on day 1 of absence, she said she was sick. Day 2 nothing. Day 3 nothing. Day 4 she surfaced. Did you go to hospital? no. Which medicine did you take? no response. I just paid her off there and then. Then I asked myself, if I was all dressed for work and nanny has not surfaced, what will I do? That's how I started collecting recommendations for creche/ daycare. In short I had a hard time picking a daycare, so many good ones in my neighborhood. I'm grateful to God for the one I finally picked because they take such good care of lo and the caregivers have a lot of initiative. Coincidentally there are only two babies right now, lo and another toddler, meanwhile there are two caregivers. They're even spoiling the boy for me. Besides the lack of help has helped my marriage cos hubby assists a lot around the house, we've become a stronger team. Nowadays little things he does just burst my head anyhow hope say i no go soon start second missionary journey sha. |
