I wrap such that when he bites the cotton wool cushions my finger. In short he likes me cleaning his mouth cos it's usually free for all biting galore. Then I take my finger in through the sides where no teeth.

He doesn't have top teeth sha o, maybe your lo has more teeth

Please not just before noon. He needs early morning sun. By 9-10am its already too late. Bring him out for 1st sun, lets say around 7. 8 is even late gan.

Then avoid using anything containing menthol e.g mentholatum, silverbird, camphor etc around or on him. Keep such things very very far for now.

I use only water. My grandma used only water for me when i was a baby and I have zero mouth odour. In short if i don't brush for three days you may not know. Even morning breath i don't have.

Now that lo has teeth and is eating adult food, I've started using toothpaste. I have no option especially since i use a lot of spring onions when preparing his food. I'm yet to buy his own paste so i just use very tiny amounts of regular close-up. I'm still using cotton wool because it's easier to access his tongue that way than with the oyinbo finger brush i bought.

Thank you. It's not about the quantity of milk, when they don't like something they simply reject it no matter the quantity of milk, my girl actualy took the semo prepared with milk. He select food more.

I do a blend of apple and banana for them as jiuce and they take it well.

Is it ok to introduce ribena or capri sunne now? They will be nine months in two days.

You senior me for the matter o, my boy is just going on 8 months. Personally sha I'm not giving any ribena, caprisun, biscuit etc before one year and even beyond. For dental, health issues and so he doesn't develop a sweet tooth too early.

I can only advise you try other natural foods based on recipes that have been shared here, since they like banana for instance. Otherwise continue with the cereals they already like.

Maybe they don't like their pap or other food with milk. Try using only very little milk, then give milk separately to drink.

Don't give honey to child less than a year old.

Try homemade purees too. Search this thread, ask Google questions, and put your blender to use.

If they did not join you to push the child out, I advise you be in charge of what goes into the child's mouth. Na YOU born the pikin. Tell yourself that, and you'll be surprised at what decisions you can get away with.

Maybe use joke to insist lo doesn't drink it. Or form fabu story of how 3 mommies on nairaland said it killed their children. Or swear that your doctor friend warned you against it.

Official advice of most doctors and nurses is don't give pcm till baby is running temperature after the shot. If no temperature, no need for pcm.

What's his weight? 0.4 does not work within 3 hours, give his weight x 15. E.g.if he weighs 4kg, give 0.6 (4x15=60=0.6). 6kg = 0.9 etc.

Repeat every four hours while he's running temp but please don't give more than three times in a day (3 times max within 24 hours)

My hospital (national hospital) they ask us to give pcm every 3 hours. I wonder y the nurse asked you not to. They even ask us to massage d spot gently with warm water.

Please massage the thigh he took the injection with COLD water if it's hard/swollen. If possible wrap icecubes inside a towel and use.

Sorry about the temperature, can be really stressful. Calm down, pray, administer pcm. If you can, back the baby and be dancing up and down.

Heat rash, Sun burn. Meanwhile the child will now be soaked in sweat, leading to catarrh and cough. Abeg the heat and humidity just too much.

Pls don't wrap baby up inside this heat o! He's a human being too and feels hot the way we do. One layer of cotton cloth is enough in this heat. Open windows for proper ventilation but be mindful of when it starts getting cold in the early hours of the morning. If you must use fan make sure it's not directed at baby.

Can Cerelac be fed to him as a stand alone milk? We usually mix it with his pap.
What other food can we buy to complement breast-milk which does not quench his hunger?

Advise from other experienced mums needed

I experienced exactly the same thing. Time to eat is world war 3, after eating he starts smiling.

1. Stop forcing him to eat. Make little food, so the food finishes before he gets tired, then feed him more often.

2. Maybe cerelac is too thick. Try frisogold rice. It's very smooth. Make it very light, so it will be like he's just drinking water.

3. Continue giving nan milk. Alternate meals between friso and milk. Milk is necessary for nutrients.

4. Introduce food. He may prefer eba to all these oyinbo tins. You can also cook sweet potatoes and carrot, then blend to be very smooth. Then cook beans to be very soft, and blend. Things like that sha. But please avoid cooking his food with salt.

5. Cerelac is not milk, it's cereal, same as pap. So you have to mix his pap with milk. But you don't need to mix milk with cerelac or friso with milk, they already have milk

Ideally you shouldn't give regular cow milk e.g. cowbell before the child is 12 months. They may not be able to digest it and nutrients are not adequately suited. Cowbell has a formula called Tina, why not try that instead? I think it costs 1,300.

You can also try fortifying the pap, do your research and mix the pap with groundnut, crayfish, etc. I think they call it Tombrown or so.

Then give baby alternative sources of protein like beans and fish instead of only pap. Someone shared a recipe recently, wash skin away from beans (as if you're making moimoi) and cook with little oil, crayfish and ice fish (remove the bone) till its very soft, then blend or mash.

And continue breastfeeding as much as possible, breast milk is FREE.

Besides I don't know of how it is where you are, but i walked into a supermarket on Saturday and both Cowbell and Peak were N800. Loya was 900 abi 1,000 self. Cowbell Tina is 1,300 and Peak 0-12 is 1,400.

Hello great mothers in this thread. My baby has tiny rashes around the neck, ears and on the cheeks. I'm suspecting it is the baby oil that flows down because his body downwards is free of rashes. Already I've washed all the clothes and sheets just to eliminate the cause

It could be milk rash. How old is your baby? Newborn's naturally have this rash on their face that clears away on its own. Palm kernel oil worked well for my lo's face rash. you could also clean after breastfeeding as suggested by another mummy. Then i support the mummy who asked you to switch to a natural oil like coconut oil.

As for powder, oyinbo people said we should stop using powder on babies, that it can irritate the skin, clog the pores, and they can breathe in the particles etc. You can let your instinct guide you on this.

Thank you for the suggestions. Egg he rejected, abidec he vomited, food he doesn't eat without being forced. We're almost back on exclusive now but I refuse to be worried anymore.

Very sorry dear, God is your strength. I know how tough these situations can be on mothers. First of all check if her weight is still within her birth percentile here http://www.who.int/childgrowth/standards/sft_wfa_girls_p/en/
Would have helped you but my phone has stopped downloading. I think you should see a doctor if your baby falls within the 15th (underweight) or 85th (overweight) percentile for her age.

Then I advise you don't start cereal until she doubles her birth weight. Cereals don't have nutrients like that, they're just space fillers compared to milk. It is advised to give only milk/ formula until 6 months.

Cowbell Tina costs about 1,300. Enfamil costs about 16,000. Please pick a brand that you can pay for even in your sleep, and follow the measurements judiciously, then still top up with breast milk as much as you can.

Just be firing that baby with only milk, when she's 6 months you'll see how healthy she looks compared to

I think any alcohol you take leaves your bloodstream within 2 to 4 hours. To be on the safe side I waited for 5 hours the last time I drank properly. Two full cups of palm wine, was too sweet I could not resist.

My aunt just lost her baby to force feeding ,she was force fed yesterday ,the food entered the wrong place and she started fainting,they rushed her to the hospital and she gave this morning. So heart broken cos I told my mum just last week to tell her to stop force feeding that girl when my mum asked me to do like my aunt and force feed one of my boys that doesn't like eating.

God help us o. But can we really stay and watch these children not eat? LO rejects everything. Puree, cereal, pap this morning, mashed stuff. I now allow hunger to mama him, even when obviously hungry he'll protest and cry but at least he'll agree to swallow the food. Then as soon as he finishes eating he'll start laughing.

We eat only 3 times now, that's only three spoons of cereal all day. I load as much milk as possible per plate.

May God help us and may that baby rest in peace.

@mizmyColi, Almost all formulae are Good, go to a shop, check the prize of all the formula available, pick the one that you can afford comfortably. That even when you are sleeping the money can fall out of your pocket. .
You the first Tin, and watch your baby, use the second Tin, if it is good with your baby then continue. I use All milk, my son is 10months now, though I noticed some are creamy some are not.

Pls mother's no SMA DNA is made in UK, they are both made in IRELAND, One is made for Nigeria market in IRELAND, the other is made for UK market in IRELAND the both are good depending on the mother.

Thank you for mentioning affordability. Please it's better to give cowbell Tina, so baby can eat the needed 7 spoons 5 times daily, than to buy sma gold and be adding only 2 spoons of milk to baby's akamu.

That small size of milk usually lasts maximum one week.
