Hmmmm traditionally when your baby eats their poo, you're supposed to eat it too. This is how it is in my place. Has anyone heard of it before?
It's because you're not eating it that the matter is recurring.
Next time lo eats their poo, please use your finger to take and eat too.
You see, our traditions have wisdom. If you know her eating it will lead to you eating it, you'd be more careful about the ish. |

Zheemub: Thanks. Please what type of homemade foods can I pack for him? I never reach that stage o, but alphahandmaiden has been sharing some links with ideas for weaning foods. Personally I plan to take out a portion of whatever I'm cooking for hubby and I in the morning (before I add salt and maggi), puree or mash and keep in a plate for him. That's one meal. Then he'll take cereals twice, and milk 3 times. Then I'll gradually increase to two meals, one cereal. Then stop mashing, so hopefully by the time he's a year old he'll be taking three normal meals to school. That's my plan o, let's hope little oga is on the same wavelength with me. |

soonest: Contains paracetamol and chlorpheniramine(piriton). Yes paracetamol will relieve pain but d piriton component will just keep dozing the child. I'm not just a fan of teething mixtures. Interesting. Personally I'm scared of drugs. You won't believe that one tablet of pcm is still enough to relieve me of pain, because I very rarely take painkillers. So this combo is what some people give their babies daily from when they are three months old. |

Godmother: Thanks Onegai. My friend is a little bit hot-tempered and a no-nonsense person, although in the almost 15 years I've known her I know she's not the type to loof for trouble, but she also can't lie low and watch someone 'ride' her. And then I can't remember which, but I think she said either her MIL or SIL is also hot tempered, which is actually the real reason for her reluctance. She's afraid they might clash after a while. It's a temporary arrangement. She promised to stay with hubby during good times and bad times. She better swallow her temper till they have their own rent money. If she wakes up appreciative of the free roof she's being offered everyday, trust me there won't be clash. She has to lie low o, it's not her in-laws who caused her financial constraints. |

Godmother: Wise mamas in the house, I would appreciate your input in a matter. My childhood friend called me yesterday with an issue. She and her dh are having accommodation problems and the hubby had to relocate back to his parents house while she moved in with her elder sister whose husband is away. Her sister's hubby is about coming back and her sister has been politely telling her she needs to move.
She told her hubby and he asked her to move in with him; in his parents house. She's against the idea and in a way I support her cos I know how some Nigerians treat daughter-in-laws. She suggested moving in with me temporarily, but I had to tell her my dh won't agree. Now she's down and confused and she has to give her hubby the final reply tomorrow about moving in with her inlaws.
Mamas, how do you all see living with your inlaws? Personally, I don't support it but would love to know what others think.
cc Onegai Alphahandmaiden Zaynie Other sabi mamas It's not ideal, but na condition make crayfish bend. She should humble herself and make the best of the situation. In every situation give thanks, some people have to move to village and take up farming when they face similar constraints. This one it seems her in-laws are even in the city. |

pheesayor: I suspect teething because she puts her index finger in her mouth as if she's itching her gum and she feels good whenever she does it. The only time she cries is when she wants to sleep and the only solution is backing her. To check for tonsillitis, I can't afford a hospital visit right now but I'll keep observing. If it is teething, what is the best thing to use? My mum brought bonababe months ago and told us to keep for when she starts teething problems If you have some spare time, could you please share the ingredients of bonabebe? I'm quite curious. |

suzystores: Happy Sunday beautiful Mummies.I have learnt alot from here.God bless you all.I m a silent follower tho.hope i m welcomed.Pls my baby girl is 4months and 2weeks.she has been rejecting both breast milk n fomular .i tryed forcing her but she do throw up.this morning i tryed giving her pap n she was so happy drinking it.My question is should i start giving her pap at dis stage,is she matured enof to start taking pap or cereals.cos i colleague told me her digestive system is not yet matured at dis stage.if yes what type of cereals can i introduce to her.pls i need your response. Well I know folks give 4 month old babies pap sha, they make it very light and add milk. I don't like pap personally because I feel it's bereft of nutrients. But if that's what madam wants, if I were in your shoes I'd give her. But I'd make sure I pack at least half of her daily milk requirements into her pap. For instance if at 4 months she needs 6 spoons 5 times daily, if she's taking pap 5 times daily put at least 4 spoons 5 times. Then let her drink a lot of water to prevent constipation. My lo of recent eats small small. So sometimes I give him just a spoon of cereal but with at least 5 spoons of milk. Meanwhile my cereal doesn't need milk o. I just make sure that the few times he eats he gets a good portion of his rda (he's supposed to take 7 spoons of milk 5 times daily). Then we keep drinking water cos he loves water. Then I also breastfeed as much as possible to make up the balance. |

sugarcanebaby: No I haven't zaynie. Have been to the hospital afterwards and the doc assured me it was OK.
My baby would be three months in January and I'm also to resume back to work. Right now, hubby and I have the option of getting a nanny(live in\or daily) and a creche. I found one close to where I live. My questions are;
1. Which one is better, a nanny a creche?
2. Is my baby too young like some people say?
3. What should I look out for as I would be going back there next week to assess them.
Please don't jump and pass. I need your input as it breaks my heart every time I think of the fact that I'd have to leave him with someone else.
Cc: feddy, iomoge, liftedhands, alphahandmaiden, onegai, helovesme, danzak, tojued etc 1. Everything helovesme said. Though I like the new idea of taking your Nanny to the creche. 2. Most crèches accept 12 week old babies. Do what you have to do and don't beat yourself up. If you resign to take care of your baby, people will still talk. 3. Everything helovesme said. Though you need to prioritise, cos it's unlikely any creche will have all that and be close to your workplace. E.g.my los creche is affordable, neat, there are 2 caregivers to 3 children, and many good things. But it's old school so there are no cognitive activities. They don't even give that daily report in a book thingy (na this one pain me pass) For me the tipping point is overcrowding. I need lo in a place with maximum 2 caregivers to 5 kids. That was the major criteria I searched with cos even the best crèches and caregivers become horrible once overwhelmed. |

Ganjababe: Thanks Mamas for the input and advices. Please I have a question. My baby is 7 months and eats everything, I mean everything adults eat. From swallow to grains and all, with pepper ooo. Though we don't do cow milk. I want to know if it is safe to continue. Anticipating your responses. Thank you all You're so lucky. Ideally baby shouldn't be exposed to much sodium e.g salt and especially maggi. But since you have one that prefers to eat at your table, I count it as less stress for you. In short, I tap into this anointing, my lo shall not be a picky eater ijn. Just ensure you're providing balanced diet, baby also still needs a lot of milk. |

DANZAK: But there is no age specification on the container. Pls did you confirm that. I really want to know how to do that because I am tired of all this trial and error things. At the top of the carton or container there's a pix of a baby sitting and they write supported sitter etc there. On the pack they also describe signs your baby may be ready for solid. Generally you start off a baby with a single grain e.g. rice or oats. Rice is easy to digest and rarely provokes allergies hence its first choice. You try out single grains individually, before trying out a multi grain (which is a mixture of different single grains). |

For those of us that has been affected by mmm, pls let's keep our hope alive knowing that come January everything will be sorted out and our monies recovered. I also want to appreciate the mamas in this thread that has exhibited a great high level of maturity in handling crisis and critism. May God bless you all. For those mamas, that had to swallow their pride and ego for peace to rain, kudos to you all. I want to say a very big congratulations to all the mothers and fathers here, you guys are the best.
Now, to my question, my Ds of 5months has refused to take formula for the past one week plus now. Though I add formula in his cereal. Is it OK, to just leave him to what he gets from cereal? If not what do you suggest I do.
Cc Onegai, Helovesme, comtem2011,Alphahandmaiden, FINA4804,Soonest, and all sabi mamas Pack his daily requirement of formula into his cereal. But make sure he drinks sufficient water, to prevent constipation. He might be teething and so having difficulty sucking. |

DANZAK: Thanks dear, I have been to all those places, in fact welcome u is very close to my house and that's where I shop. The truth is that I am a little skeptical about wheat and oat as my Ds is not on the fat side so I kind of want something that will make him gain weight and I don't think oat and wheat can serve that purpose, though he takes oatmeal well. I tried Gerber multigrain and it's making his poo black and strong. That is why I think I should stick to rice. Multi grain is definitely not for 4 months. It's 6 months at the very least. |

So my question is, is it ok to start giving her cow milk at 9months(nido milk) cc all mamas. Cow milk ought to be from one year above. Maybe make dd's formula in a glass and pretend it's for yourself? She's probably just coveting cos it's yours. |

sugarcanebaby: Mothers without househelps, how do you guys cope? Please I need ideas o! My mum went back to her base two weeks ago and it's not been easy for me. Still sourcing for S househelps but yet to get one. Hubby had to take me to the hospital last night because I felt so weak but I'm better now. It's not easy taking care of my ds, the house. My husband etc. I'll appreciate useful tried and tested ways to manage myself. Hubby tries too but he works till night time so the only time he can really help out is on weekends I stop anywhere my power finishes. If hubby continues, fine. If he doesn't, fine. I have priorities. Baby is one. I feed, bathe, change him. Do his laundry, pack creche bag, wash and sterilize eating stuff. Every other thing in this life na jara. If I can wash feeding tools in the night, I wake as late as 6.30. Lo wakes very early too. So I bathe him, then dh dresses him while I bathe, then holds him while I dress. Then takes him to school. If not I tend to wake earlier, maybe 6. If I can manage to wake before 6 I tend to prepare lunch for dh. Work and all my side businesses are number 2. Money is important. I work Monday to Friday, but close at lunch time on Fridays. I try to run errands on Fridays, and still get home early enough to sleep. Dh picks lo from school at 5. Fridays are my days. Then I wake up midnight and handle my side businesses. Hubby is number 3. He is clueless in the kitchen and I need him well fed so he doesn't fall sick. That makes food number four. For cooking, I have a food time table. That way I don't have to stress my head on what to cook. I try to shop Fridays or Saturdays, like i said I try. I haven't gone to the market in the last two weeks. When my stock of food finishes we'll start eating cereal. Dh picks lo from school, so I go home straight from the office and piece dinner together. House chores come 4th. No levels. Hubby does plates and trash, we both sweep, I wash the bathroom in bits, I mop whenever the spirit touches me. We both do laundry, we pile the dry clothes and I fold at weird times. I come last #sigh. Unkempt. Unkempt. Unkempt. |

AlphaHandMaiden: My DD used the christening gown i used as a baby for her baptism...... plenty sentimental value! If i have a boy! He will use the same gown..... If prince george can wear a dress for his christening..... then its fine...
I dont even buy anything that is pink!, every thing needs a re-use or re-sale value. All in unisex colours as much as i can get away with it.
I also carefully wash and package everything, all clothing are bagged in order of size.
I keep all the manuals - everything from bouncers to toys.
Tie all screws or fasteners and ensure they are tied or taped to the main pieces so you can find for future assembly.
Keep the carton if i can and put it back in the cartons if i can. I feel you on keeping things neatly so they don't lose value. I plan on giving out everything as fast as I can. I feel there'll be more value added that way. Especially to close friends and family members. E.g I already gave out my breast pump to a friend who I felt needed it more than me, as soon as lo turned 4 months. I told her I would collect it back whenever me or someone else needs it. Let my 150 euros investment not go and spoil for lack of use. Plus I'm not a sentimental person sha. I did not even buy a special cloth for lo's christening. Wore him something nice he had already. What mattered to me was the spiritual aspect of the baptism. I dashed out my two wedding dresses before my one year anniv. Way better than risking them being eaten by moths in my mom's wardrobe. It's just me sha, but I've always tried to guard against possessions. And then there's the law of karma: whatever I give, I'll receive twofold. Afterall, 50% of all what lo has came as gifts. I bought 45%. The other 5% I loan from family as need arises. |

sugarcanebaby: Thank you so much feddy27, danzak and orirebaby. I actually feel better after reading your comments. The way some people ask you question when they see you with formula can be alarming. They act as if it's poison Lol one woman in church asked me why I'm not doing ebf for my baby. I found the question so rude! She was like, are you working? And in my mind I was like, even if i'm not working, what's your business what I feed my baby? It's all these kind of people putting pressure on our sisters who for some reason or another are unable to ebf. You don't ask a person you don't know stuff like that! You don't know where the person is coming from or what struggles the person has faced. In short, that day I was kind of speechless so I just smiled and said its work. Ara babu the next person who asks me such. I will so tell the person off regardless of age! |

ozycy: Feddy27 you couldn't have said it any better. I try to administer all vaccines, prevention they say is better than cure. I understand that some pple may not be able to afford it but there are some that can afford it but still feel it's unnecessary or find it hard to bring out that money just for one dose of injection but will buy all the plenty plenty baffing up things for their babies to maintain status. Anyways, sometimes it's just ignorance. I remember my first son had chicken pox even after taking the vaccine but it was very mild and didn't leave any scare. I was seriously doubting if na fake vaccine they gave him lol.
--How about buying that 2k baby bath set instead of that foreign one of 12k thereabout.
-- how about buying normal 3k christianing gown instead of that posh 10k gown that the baby will wear and outgrow in a month tym. I can go on and on. Good morning everyone. Let's pray (it's Saturday morning already)
Father thank you.
Thank you for the life of everyone who has ever and will ever be a part of this thread. Thank you for all our families. Thank you that we have deemed it fit to officially invite you into our thread every Saturday.
Be glorified in who you are, mighty God.
We pray that our Saturday prayers will just be the first step of us all living to glorify you. That our faith will transcend this page, and we will truly live lives which honour you. That you be God in all we do.
Dear God, I lift us all into your mighty hands. I ask for your continued blessing on us.
Even as you've given us our los, please provide for us especially in wisdom so we can provide for them.
That whatever venture we and our spouses set our hands on will be blessed.
That you bless us and all our families with fullness of health and length of days.
We ask that on this thread, there will always be rejoicing. Please father, spare us any mourning. We use all our babies who were ill recently as a point of contact, thank you God for healing them.
We beg you for wisdom and common sense. Please keep using each and everyone of us as mouthpieces to help our fellow parents who need our advice. Also prompt us to realise when something is beyond our knowledge and experience.
We specially ask you to bless all those who are waiting on you for children. My father, please fill their quiver with arrows. We all know that children are a gift from you and you alone.
Please bless the land we live in, especially Nigeria. We pray for our country because you've told us that is where we'll find our peace. We declare that Nigeria will be better for our children.
Thank you God, for you are God and there's none like you.
We pray in the name of Jesus Christ.
(Amin, Amin, Amin... Oruko Jesu Amin)
Shalom. |
