personally i don't care if my man doesn't have too much money to take care of me but it should start bothering me if he doesn't even try to get a job with a better pay and[b] a man earning 40k is not enough to take care of me or himself cos 40k is close to nothing.[/b] when you spend the money 4 times then what is left for you? Loving a man is not a problem for any lady but the problem is if they can entrust their lives and stomach or even give up all they have for the man. another problem is not the money but some ladies are scared of a man breaking their heart or scared of hurting the man's feelings cos some men just never forgive and they tend to remind you of your past misdeeds, cos in most cases i think of my man first before i do anything and with time its seems like you doing something for someone at the expense of your happiness. The truth is many Nigerian men are not ready to get married.

The rate at which the female folks admire expensive weddings is scary. You see them everywhere on Instagram, Bella Naija, etc., following the latest wedding updates in town, they download videos of rich couples dancing and all, some of whom got married straight after NYSC with their father's stolen wealth. Yet, they wanna be like them.

Ladies, these freaking attitudes scare men away!! No one enjoys spending money like mis-programmed ATMs. Unless your money is stolen, you'll always weigh your options.

And please, ladies should understand that sometimes when a guy says he's not ready, it doesn't mean he won't get married to you. Before you leave, try and understand his reasons and see whether you fit into his plans.

The photoshoot, the jamboree is the least thing on a guy's mind. These things do not mean a thing to us!! We don't impress colleagues with expensive weddings! A guy would naturally want to impress people with his business, job, car, or house, than a sponsored ad on bellanaija. Ladies get these things clearly, and take your minds off frivolities.

Very brilliant article! It's unfortunate that many Nigerian women are very lazy and would rather seek for a well to-do/rich man to marry instead of a man they can grow with. They forget that these men who are rich today started from somewhere and that the men who are struggling today may be be even richer than the men they are seeking today. Most of them who sought rich men eventually enter the marriage and don't even have peace of mind... So many examples out there. Truth is bitter but I'll say it....it is best to seek a man who is still coming up and grow with him. Like OP stated, females should try to have their own jobs and be financially independent instead of waiting for a man to do everything for them

That's right! I am still single because I have high expectations. Not for the man though, but for myself.

I once dated (and engaged) to a doctor who earned over 200k with a beach house, and another tri-level home in a wealthy part of city and who could give me the 'world' with just a smile as he put it.

Guess what? I decided I rather struggle and become my own "doctor". Instead of wearing a t-shirt that says "I married a doctor", I decided to wear "I am a doctor". Damnit.

Now, If I saw a future with him, maybe that would be a different case. But, I did not. But, anyway, I am a girl of different breed--more like the masculine side of me. I did not want to marry until i had something to offer or contribute or at least feel financially and (satisfactorily) ready.

However, it is a different story tho in many parts of the world where women have very little to no other options BUT to seek and marry a wealthy fellow, or at least one with sustainable source of income.

I met my hubby as a fresh graduate who just finished serving n applying for job.i ws in my yr 1 then.i always support him wit d little moni my parent gv to me but cant even let my friends knw cos they will laugh at me for givin a man money.

The job that made him who he is today i gave him money to travel to lagos 4 the exam on getting back they called him for interview n no moni to go back i had to lie to my dad n go money again wc i gave him n he got he job wc ws an oil company.

Sex is the most expensive thing a girl can give a guy and if he has gotten it or is getting it regularly then what value is left of the girl or lady in question. Except there are other value add like family background, job, financial or political status, connections etc. These things don't define true love but the guy will pretend to hang in there to grab all the grabbables because he won't want to leave it for another but deep down he doesn't love the woman. So before any lady should give her priceless gift to any man she should weigh it properly, does he deserve it, what has he done to get the coveted price, what will be the implications for allowing him etc.

When I guy gets in there, there is nothing else worth fighting for, she can go to hell for all he cares. Nothing to loose. Even if she likes she can date Obama, she is marked as one down.
