BusinessRe: Haulage Business In Nigeria (new 2012)- Essentials You Need To Know by TokyoBulls(m): 5:26pm On Aug 29, 2012
olulai: Hi fellow NLanders,
This is my first post about this topic.
I have read a few posts about the topic on here aswell.
I intend to start this business in Nigeria and i will be starting out with one or maybe two trucks (From Europe).
My question is, what sort of truck / trailer / tipper should I invest in, what are the common ones used in Nigeria, how much do you stand to gain (per month)doing this business, what costs / expenses should be put in mind, and what opportunities are out there?.
I am not greedy if I'm being honest but we all know the main aim of any business is profit.
I have read previous posts and I understand the importance of having a good driver / mechanic if you intend going private or handing it straight over to companies who maintain your trucks and pay you an agreed fee monthly.
Bottom line is, Is this business still viable in Nigeria?

NB: No point leaving unnecessary lengthy paragraphs if you are trying to market something else. Straight-to-the-point posts please. We are all trying to learn.
I'm currently into haulage and logistics (with some few years of experience) and learning as much as possible is my focus now. I'm already following the post. Now to your questions. There are several options you have as haulage in Nigeria is massive and presents a lot of opportunities. You can have trucks/trailers for dry goods for manufacturing companies. On this, you can register directly if you have the required number of trucks or work with one of their registered hauliers who will usually collect 10% of gross revenue. You can also use flat beds to carry containers for importers as well as companies who need your services. You can use tippers/dump trucks for granite, sand, etc.

Most of your questions can be addressed if one has some understanding of the type of haulage business you want to do.

FXKing2012: Nobody is forced to go to church, if you are a witch and dont wanna be slapped then dont go to church. While within church premises, the pastor is the head and has authority to do what he feels is best for the church or congregation.
The Pastor does not have authority to do 'what he feels is best'. He is expected and required by the law of the land to do 'what is right at the right time with the right intent to the right people' all the time and the law that governs (in this case and generally) is the Constitution and Human Rights. The Pastor does not have the right to slap a fellow human being because the Constitution forbids such and to the Constitution, the 'highly-exalted Pastor' and the poor girl are same and should be treated as such. So you mean the Pastor has the right to kill a 'witch' if he 'feels' that's what's best for the church? That's murder. The Church is not empowered to declare such; it's the Judge who holds that power in a competent law.

Wake up and get education! Knowledge is Power

Chizolum: I agree with you my brother.
FYI. I attend Living Faith, and I (in very strong terms) condemn acts aimed at dishonouring, molesting, harassing fellow humans, especially when the people involved are those on whom nature, God or the society has bestowed such honour and responsibility. It is dehumanising to get slapped and much more for such to be on YouTube and a lot much more when the the person involved arrogantly defends this act as if he were a Superhuman. It is human to err, and when we do, we apologise and are remorseful. It could have been a simple case and definitely, people would have been appeased. When Paul erred in Acts of Apostle in pretence, Peter called him to order immediately and he apologised. Simple! He who wants the post of a Bishop must be MEEK. That's the most basic of the requirements.

xtayle: Gboyega,

Elijah d prophet slaughtered several prophets of baal in one single day. Jehu was anointed to and he did destroyed d house of Ahab including Jezebel d witch.

Take d advise that says "watch from a distance". Its d best I have seen on this thread.
We will need evidences that Miss Justice is a witch and such evidences must be presentable and admissible in a court of law. And the constitution (definitely not the Bible) is the book of authority in a court. We go to church not to read and interpret the Constitution but the Bible and we go to the Court not to read the Bible but the Constitution. There shouldn't be any confusion here. The Bible was the Constitution during the days of Jehu and Elijah. The Bible and the Constitution are different today. I'm sure people never knew the case would come this far. There's a lot more Pastors to take to court.

If you think (foolishly) that God could have told the 'Bishop' to slap the girl, then we need evidences in court. The court is a place of evidences ant not spiritual or emotional discussions. People are blind. I'm a Christian and I've attended Living Faith for years. It was wrong of anyone (and I mean anyone) to molest, harass or deal with a fellow human in a way that doesn't portray dignity. We all need to feel honoured, and when we err, we should be good enough to apologise or at least feel remorseful. The poor girl can commit suicide for having been exposed to such indignity, and if that happens, will be Bishop be guiltless?

Men of God should be above the law? How? Why? How does the constitution define 'Men of God'? Even in the Bible (Acts of Apostle), Peter reprimanded Paul for ding something wrong - pretence.

I'm very surprised! I can't believe an enlightened young Nigerian will think or talk this way. Is it because BDO is a Bishop or because the lady is not prominent? I think we need a truly egalitarian society where citizens and their rights are respected and protected. It is wrong for you to abuse and molest your child, how much less someone else's. Let's wait and see the outcome of all of these.

This is a special SOS call to all NL'ers to help me with this issue. I have been a member of this forum for some time now and I have connected several members of this business to become business owners. Some members of this forum have met me in person on FMCG Distributorship business and advice. However, this is a request for help from well-meaning members to help me with any piece of advice concerning this matter.

I had contacts with a member of this forum in March 2012 (username: ekitikan) and we were discussing some businesses; vis a vis haulage and commercial transportation. His full real name is Gadeola Ajibade GADE-IDOWU. We met several times to discuss the business. He was living at Igando then. We met several times at Igando and LASU-OJO Road, Lagos. He is a graduate and talks very smoothly and intelligently.

We saw a truck and I agreed with the owner's son (The owner lives in the US) to pay N2,900,000. He also agreed to pay in two instalments. Unfortunately, the cheque I issued bounced becuase the FCMB account I was given by the owner's son was dormant. It was this time that the unfortunate thing happened. This was on April 20, 2012. He suggested that I transfer the money for the payment for the truck. He claimed that the truck was imported for him by the owner (after paying a deposit), but he wasn't able to complete the payment. I transferred N1,500,000 to his account on April 20, N570,000 on May 9 and then another N90,000 on May 21; and then the last N270,000. This made the total transfer N2,430,000! I have the account details of Gade and his wife, Grace Nike Gade-Idowu.

There wasn't any reason to doubt Gade at the beginning, until I started suspecting he didn't want to transfer all the money I had paid to the owner or his son. At first, he said he was in Sapele attending to a client and could not effect the transfer until he got back to Lagos. He postponed coming to Lagos twice and when he eventually came, he didn't make the transfer. That was when I discovered that he didn't travel out of the West. He kept lying and I had to connect to his family. Same day, I met his in-laws, uncle and mother. They said he had moved from Igando and everyone claimed they didn't know where he was.

Later, I got some help and discovered he had moved his nuclear family from the extended family to a rented apartment in Agbara! I located the house in Agbara and the vagabond had moved again. He kept promising to buy time. He had promised over ten times, but now he's nowhere to be found. He still picks calls and is still on this forum. He still posted a response on June 24, 2012. I have informed the office of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, but as usual, the police are very slow in their actions and reactions.

I will appreciate any advice from members of the forum. I will also appreciate if the Moderator can help put the post on the front page.

I'm not surprised. People have been defrauded before under the guise of business opportunities, but I've made myself clear enough. Several people have called to make further inquiries and none of them can say I asked them to pay money for anything other than the values of the goods they're planning to purchase. Registration is free. The fact that I (perhaps) couldn't pick your calls (and you said I called back) does not warrant being called names. You're perhaps a potential customers, and in our usual customs, we treat our customers with lots of respect and dignity. Peace!
