On the positive side, there are enough stocks with growth potentials to go round.
Examples of growth potential stocks please.

Thanks BBM. I salute you sir.

We are entering the phase of aggressive bull rise on NSE and other EMs. During this phase, everything boat is lifted by the tsumani of money.

Many stocks can go on full bids for weeks. After many months, the mania reduces and people panic. When prices settle at rest, then the mania accelerates again.
Mercy or any oga, abeg which two shares can i buy to benefit from this capital appreciation for like a year.

I have UCAP in mind after i see their result and one more either access or any other one that gives dividend. Please advice. I am responsible for any decision i make. Regards

Wait. Let us see when it starts coming up again to around 2973 zone. It has fallen a lot (a stock that has fallen a lot can still keep falling,. We should discard the idea that it lloks cheap) , we should avoid the emotion of trying to catch tge bottom, it can send us out of the market faster than we can imagine.
InvestmentRe: Us Stocks Pick Alert by Topson88: 8:42pm On Feb 03, 2022
Is it a good time to buy amazon or we should expect further falls? huh

Silentone sent you a good response. I like Simon Property Group (SPG) from his list.

If you intend to hold for a few years, I will also recommend Medical Properties Trust (MPW) who lease out medical facilities like hospitals. Their dividend yield is circa 4.8%.

Another good long-term hold is Digital Realty Trust (DLR) who lease out data centres. However, this has a high multiple (PE ratio) which is likely to contract in the current monetary policy environment.

If you are looking for strong/steady companies that might withstand a bear market, you could also look beyond REITs for old "boring" stocks like General Mills (GIS) or Pepsi (PEP). They're not going to generate exciting growth numbers but they allow for capital preservation with some decent dividend yields.
Thanks for your post.

Am still trying to wrap my head around dividend stocks.

For example for GIS which yield is about 3percent. Does that mean if i invest 1000 dollars, i will get around 30 dollars as dividend for a whole year cry ?

Yok wrote a beautiful post about REITs which includes Orchid capital with an excellent yield of 15% but my fear like most dividend stock is that the stock price has gradually fallen from about 15 dollars to 4.64.

Please why do people invest in dividend stocks when the yields are either small or the stock price gradually reduce to cause investors a loss rather than profit?

Remember the saying, NEVER TIME THE MARKET. It applies to NSE too! Why not invest in both? I invest in both and funny enough I am doing better with NSE. I personally don't care about exchange rate, when I change my $ to Naira, I have no plan whatsoever to convert it back to $. The plan is to generate crazy cashflow through dividends which I intend to use to pay bills in Nigeria in the future.
Thanks for the advice!
InvestmentRe: Us Stocks Pick Alert by Topson88: 7:55pm On May 14, 2021
please what do you think about this investment strategy for a Nigerian in diaspora

I want to put some amount in S&P 500 and apple shares to allow for capital appreciation for about a year then about a month before zenith bank pays its final divided, i will sell off my apple and s&p 500 to buy zenith shares. After dividend payment, whenever price rises above entry price, i sell off and repatriate the money back into apple and sp500 and this cycle continues.
The aim is to benefit from capital appreciation, avoid devaluation and enjoy NSE dividend yield. What do you think may be the demerit of this investiment strategy. Thanks.

Hummm thanks for the advice.
ositadima1:
This a strategy and like any other strategy it should be thoroughly tested on past market data. So, you either pay someone to run the analysis or you do it your self.

If you chose to do it your self then I can give you some pointers.

1. First and foremost, get past data, in the form of opening and closing prices for both stocks.

2. Backtest ur strategy on the collected data. U can do simple backtest with excel, if you know how to write code, python or C are good choices.

Just saying, to avoid biased info. Plus, past patterns don't guaranty future patterns. Meaning that while you are at it you should device a solid risk management.

Thanks alot. I will consider that but just that i fear devaluation for the naira investment
afroxyz:
US market is trading lower because of inflation fears. The capital you want to preserve may be trimmed. Besides when you want to enter after you have sold your Zenith shares you may be buying Apple and index funds at a higher entry price. Plus you have naira devaluation to contend with. So ur gains in Zenith may be wiped off when converting proceeds to dollar. Have you considered dividing the money and managing the portfolios seperately?

ogg's predictions are 40% correct and 60% wrong.Take it or leave it.
The best of men are men at the very best.

So how much does he get paid for the 40 percent right predictions?

How many percent predictions of a paid financial analyst do you feel will be right?

I like when people criticise the gurus in the house constructively to make everyone better but not destructive criticism that abuses their goodwill.

NB: i dont own UACN shares neither did i buy neimeth. shocked

Thanks Bro, I actually have stock that are for long term, I enjoy yearly dividends. This is just side hustle.
Phoinix, i need to get something clear, are the charges 2 percent of our profit or 2 percent of capital + profit.

If its capital plus profit then am thinking 4 percent will be at a loss because before you made profit at all, about 1 percent of your capital had been deducted from buying the stock, so its like charging your capital twice in the process of buying and selling.

If the percentage is just profit alone, then you seem right pocketing 2 percent out of 4 percent gain... what do you think?

Hi guys, never knew there was a thread like this on Nairaland.

I have a question. If I wanted to buy a foreign stock like Facebook for long time investment, how do I go about it?

The reason I asked is, definitely all these little apps that serves as a means to buy stocks is likely not going still be available in the next 15, 20 years.

One other question. Where do I start reading this thread from as a complete beginner?

Sorry for my layman language.

Nsempa, red spillage everywhere......blind followers of the almighty oracle are crying.

SincereObserver
One thing i admire about oracle is his tolerance to senseless people that cast stones when market no go the way they expect. I dont think he will always be right, even my pastor who claim to hear from God didnt predict corona virus pandemic in his year 2020 prophesies, does that make him a devil?

Until you pay a financial analyst and still go wrong with his or her predictions or advices, you wont appreciate people like oracle, mercy, onegentleguy, emmenuelelewunmi and the likes who go out of their busy schedules to share knowledge and answer questions selflessly.

Please tell those blind followers ,since na you dey see them, that weeping may endure for a night but Joy comes in the morning.
