Politics / Re: Nigerians In The Diaspora Have No Responsibility To The Development Of Nigeria. by topup: 3:51am On Jul 29, 2011
Someone mentioned on page one about returning with a business idea and benefitting oneself. This is how it is done, charities are not known for their success rates, businesses have, China lifted its economy and 300million people out of poverty in decades by doing what? By increasing its business potential, yes - I understand you are not giving the ordinary person money, but you are providing JOBS, work is th way forwards, Chinese factories overpower others all over the world, though I am not happy to say the pennies which they work for, it is something, and definitely something better than sitting away rotting by the road side or begging for money.

No one owes anything to anyone, but we should want to improve the country where our forefathers grew up and lived, they struggled for all of us, in their various ways, and investing money to become rich, and to live a legacy of one or two generations in another man's land, is not as glamorous as it seems.

Reading the book "The Millionaire Next door" has taught me that riches and wealth are usually shortlived, what isn't is development, if you establish it, it stays, and after a while, a developed country and continue on its own.

I think for Nigerians to reject the help of those in diaspora is slightly foolish, this is because they are the lucky few who have had the opportunity to develop outside of the bad road network, outside of the severly corrupted nations security services etc. That is what we want Nigeria to become; better, we should welcome these people back, like consultants, to come back and help distribute what they have learnt.

I read an article about Chinese increasingly settling in African countries, do you think they are settling here permanently? Heck No! They are channelling funds back home, to increase their farms, to buy a business back home, to increase their wealth, to improve their country. They realise that wealth is very short-lived especially after a few generations, so the best thing is to invest - invest and invest again.

I repeat. Investing is the key!

Family / Re: Am I Paranoid? by topup: 3:33am On Jul 29, 2011
You sound like a good man, treat her the way you would want to be treated, if you 'misbehaved' you would expect silent treatment at least right? Not malice, just refrain from all the lovey-dovey stuff for a while. I'm not married or in a relationship so please take this with a pinch of salt.

Maybe she doesn't take you seriously, because you appear to be cool with everything, coming back from work and helping her - though she has been home all day, and to be honest, cooking should be her pulling her own weight around the house and should not make you feel guilty.

Her duty is to be a good wife and mother.

Your duty is the same and to be a good husband. I wonder why what her friends say about you being a great guy has no influence on her ?? :?

Romance / Re: Is It A Crime To Be Ugly? by topup: 4:31am On Jul 25, 2011
No, I disagree about the 90% of Nigerians are ugly, that's such a mean and ignorant thing to say. A country where the average person is struggling to make ends meet, of course they don't have time to for hair, clothes and makeup.

Most Nigerians just need better styling - that is all.

Most people just need to bring out their positive features, smile, eyes etc. No one is perfect!
Romance / Re: Every Female Dictionary: No=yes, Maybe=no, We Need=i Want. (free to add yours) by topup: 4:26am On Jul 25, 2011
I'm not ready for a relationship = I'm not attracted to you.
I don't want to ruin our friendship = I'm not attracted to you.
You would make some girl really lucky one day = I'm not attracted to you.

You're such a nice guy, I'm not good enough for you = I don't think you're not good enough for me.
I'd love to get to know where you come from = When are you going to introduce me to your mother.
Of course, honey! I'll never leave you = You better propose to me in the next few weeks or I'm leaving you.
I love you just the way you are = Don't change because then I'll have to!
What do you think of my outfit = I don't really care about your opinion but I'll make you sweat anyway thinking I do.
Do you think she's hot? = Its fun messing with your mind and making you sweat, but I can't handle it if you tell me the truth!

When girls say I love being single = It really means; "I get a lot of attention from other guys. I have too much fun rejecting guys and getting free meals from them".
Everyone knows that being single is only fun when it's an option, as soon as the attention goes and the dinners stop it's now "I'm in a different phase of my life and wouldn't mind starting a relationship",

It is always helpful to remember that you are not the first nor the last person who will go through a heartbreak. It is a very necessary part of life, sometimes we are heartbroken by friends, family, it isn't just those we are romantically involved with.

The betrayal of ones trust is something inevitable.

You live and learn.
Nairaland / General / Brotherly And Sisterly Love: by topup: 2:23am On May 05, 2011
This thing has been bugging me for some time now,

It's this brotherly love, my ex had it and I thought that was pretty unique, but now a distant friend on facebook won't stop singing praise about how gorgeous and perfect his baby sister is.

One thing I must emphasise is that both of these guys don't show any extra respect for women, oh no! Don't think just because they dote on their 'virginal' sisters (or so they think!) that they'll give a second thought before they break your heart. Okay, I don't want to sound bitter, but I have proof, both guys have broken the hearts and been "Playboys" to two girls I know (one of them being myself hehe!).

I have wrapped my head around mothers loving their "little husbands" or sons, in a strange way,  My mum particularly called my brother her husband, but I think that's cute, and probably very Nigerian (traditional).

But this Older brother singing non-stop praises about his sister, who happens to be JUST. ANOTHER. NORMAL. GIRL. is really confusing to me.

I guess this is a rant post in disguise really, I'm fed up of getting status updates, normally these sickening posts are between a boyfriend and girlfriend, but today it's siblings, and it's weird to me.

He says what a stunning and attractive sister he has, and she says well she does have a sexy older brother (they both chuckle on Facebook about their lucky gene pool),  but the thing is they are both just. average. Not studs, or hotties, just average and that's why it's weird. It's like there is some sort of attraction between them,  I'm not labelling anything, and I definitely doubt they'd be celebrating Inbreeding online amongst friends and family, but you know what I mean. He goes on to make a 5th picture of her as his profile picture.

Anyway, another example is my ex, in the short 3 months we called a relationship, let's say 1 out of every 4 conversations was about how beautiful his sister was, how she did her hair, how her skin glowed amazingly, how she was the perfect size for a woman, how she was so down to earth, how they were just so close, he was a Taiwo so she was his baby sis by a second, but it was the same thing as the facebook 'couple'. I don't know,  weird. If it was another woman I would have every right to be jealous, and in a strange way he made me slightly envious of his sister, his relationship with her seemed to triumph anything I could possibly ever attain. She was perfect,  and then I saw her picture,

Is it just me? Can someone explain it to me because I don't get it!
NYSC / Re: 150 Youth Corpers Amputated In Kaduna State by topup: 1:58am On Apr 29, 2011
The problem is not the NYSC it is the people. The nature of the NYSC is so unique and I think in an ideal world it is something that should be respected. However this is Nigeria, some people are able to get away with crimes, hence they are more likely to commit crimes and to add to that, more extreme crimes.
Nairaland / General / Re: 13 Year Old Raping An 11 Year Old by topup: 1:56am On Apr 29, 2011
I believe for underaged people the case has to be visited on an individual basis, it all depends on the mental maturity of the child and his awareness of what he did and of course his intent.

However, I think if it was forced and brutal rape then the child needs to go to a dentention center.
If it was a mutual thing then tbh I don't know,

The law is very gray when it comes to minors.

People fight and kill innocent people for what?? It is not as if there is justice in this country, no matter who is elected it will take a miracle for them to actually change Nigeria for the better.

Also, don't the people killing realise that elections are a reoccurring thing? They kill innocent people and themselves and in another few years do the same??
Nairaland / General / Re: Dem Somali Girls! by topup: 6:10am On Mar 15, 2011
I personally think that 90% of the pictures posted here are stunning, but the pics of the lower class Somalians prove that what makes any RACE beautiful is not their race but a) genetic lottery of the IN-DI-VI-DUAL and how close it comes to the western definition of beauty and b) the amount of money, or styling knowledge the individual has.

No matter what race you are the majority of lower class people appear ugly due to the lack of b), with B you get makeup, bleaches, styling and knowing what suits your shape and body.

I am starting to worry that even black men are starting to appreciate their dark skintones less and less, this is worrying for me because we have all readjusted our standards of beauty and excluded ourselves.

The Somalian girls qualify because none of them are dark dark skinned girls, many of them have light-coloured eyes and lastly they all wear their hair long, and mostly straight or wavy. Unfortunately a typical Nigeria person is not going to be light skinned nor will they have light coloured eyes or have hair that grows out of their scalps straight and that is how people go around believing that west-African = ugly.

It's sad really. I get this sinking feeling that I will probably die before the day that true black features - not a big butt on a latino woman, or slightly plumper lips on a European model, or a tanned/darker complexion on an American celebrity - will be appreciated. I'm talking about full lips on a dark skinned woman with deep brown eyes and curly hair.

I've said too much :/
Nairaland / General / Re: NL Females: Which Body Will You Prefer To Have? And Guys Pick One! by topup: 5:49am On Mar 15, 2011
I will go for B, I prefer the lean look to the bursting out of my clothes look. I think A's body works for her because she is a model, however as a real woman she would probably have a lot of unwanted attention. My bigger busted friends complain that people automatically place them in the 'easy' girl category because of their curves.

I definitely have a nicer bum than B, but I still prefer B - also I can't attain A, I don't have that hip ratio or the money to buy her fake boobs!
Romance / Re: Do Ladies Really: ? by topup: 5:43am On Mar 15, 2011
Hey poster, you're female, don't you know yourself??

I can't generalise for you BUT I disagree, most ladies who are confident and self-assured like guys who treat them well.

Insecure women or some who need spontaneity in their lives probably like the thrill that comes with being with a bad boy. It all depends on what you're looking for and how honest you are, if you're looking for someone who is marriage material most women won't tolerate a guy who treats them crap, if you're looking for sex, money, an exciting relationship/experience then I guess more ladies are willing to gamble with their hearts.

Romance / Re: Who Recovers Faster After A Breakup Men Or Women? by topup: 5:36am On Mar 15, 2011
I think it's much easier for a woman to move on because women don't have to go and do the flirting and picking a guy, most women can just get dressed, look nice hit the town and they'll get a compliment or two. As for men, they have to suck it up and go and toast another woman which is hard.

However, emotionally, I think most men do, they are geared to be like this, the ones who don't recover quick are teased and 'encouraged' into doing so.
If society says you're not supposed to have any emotions over and over again, eventually you'll believe that too.

Romance / Re: Why Are Women So Jealous Of Each Other? by topup: 2:57am On Feb 08, 2011
The world expects a woman to be pure and kind, but we are just humans. humans are jealous in nature, it's a shallow and watered down 21st century version of competition, natural selection for evolution of our species.

I just think that women are tough on themselves and other women, its a dog eat dog world.

When I express my opinions about other women it is usually my true opinion and not a cover up for jealousy or hatred, sometimes I can be interpreted as being jealous but I am very fair. I am not above admitting a girl is beautiful, I wouldn't say it's because of confidence, but more to do with honesty and frankness.
