Romance / Re: Want My Girl Back by topup: 2:02am On Aug 09, 2010
I wouldn't advise you go back to her, but if you are adamant, make sure to wait a good while, give yourself some thinking time. I am sure if you rationalise everything in this particular situation, it makes no sense.

What you're doing is inflating the ego of an undeserving woman.

As you continue to pine for her, she will always have you as her back up plan. I am sure if things go awry with this 'banker' she will come running back, and tell you that she didn't know what came over her.

You deserve better, you seem like a nice dedicated and loyal guy who is hard working etc. These are the qualities that women all over the world seek for in men.

If you feel you deserve something really good, hold out and banish the idea of getting back together, at least for now.

She seems to be using you, and you should be protecting yourself.

She's indecisive, she cheated and did not confess until cornered. She may have not been happy in the relationship, but any mature person would just come up front and say so.

Is it worth it?

Thanks all!! Fingers crossed!!

Lol, 190. Topup in love? Is that a comedy or drama or something undecided? Haven't seen it either.
Romance / Re: Stalemate! by topup: 2:24pm On Aug 08, 2010
Pweety4me:

Lolz yea. . .but y don't u just ask him? tongue

I don't know really, I ask if I'm willing to follow up on it, I like the guy, not sure I want to be throwing everything aside if he happened to respond and say yes, with guys, most rarely say no to dating you, especially if they think you're good looking, but a guy who shows interest and can make that clear is always more desirable, I know what I want, not sure if he does.

I think he probably is undecided, there are probably other women he's interested in, and though I understand that that is the typical human being (no one fancies just one person) I'd at least like to be at the top of the list. wink

Thanks for your response, I thought I might have gone a rant too far.
Romance / Stalemate! by topup: 2:54am On Aug 08, 2010
So there's this guy, who supposedly liked me 2 years ago, and we've been friends since, throughout all this time, he has never asked me out on a date, or made any moves, fair enough he's winked at me once when he was tipsy in a dark club, and I had flirted back, but there's been no real effort to either a: make it obvious he's not pursuing other women or b: that he is very interested in me.

Now, I read the book "He's just not that into you" AND watched the movie, though this is the 21st century, I am not the type to force any guy into anything BUT I can't help but think, he's young (a few months younger than myself) AND he's a little shy, but shy or not, there are ways you can make it obvious that you like someone, and it extends beyond complimenting their shoes and outfit, it extends further than just smiling at them or hinting at a friendly get together. For all I know, at a dinner I went to recently, he could have liked any of the girls out there (and maybe he does).

I guess this is just a rant, some guys are quite spoilt for choice, they've forgotten how to make a move on a girl who isn't ALL out there and flirty.

OR HEY!! He just doesn't care LOL!!
Romance / Re: Why Do Guys Break A Caring Woman's Heart? by topup: 1:20am On Aug 05, 2010
This is SO true, when there's so much choice, who would want to settle down, that's why men get married older, they have fewer choices.
Religion / Re: Another One: Redeemed Pastor Arrested Over N8m Fraud by topup: 4:21am On Aug 04, 2010
Pastors too are human, who live in the same economical environment everyone else does, this was obviously not right, and it not only is a crime but a sin too. But I guess not all humans are perfect after all,

The man should get his money back.
Career / Re: Top 10 Well Paid Occupation In Nigeria by topup: 4:18am On Aug 04, 2010
I think Ladi02 is the only one who did the question justice, many of you joking around are the same ones who will get pissed if anyone stereotypes or generalises Nigerians, saying we're kidnappers or 419ers.

I don't know the precise order, but I am very sure that successful business people feature on the spot, and engineers.
Culture / Re: Why Do Naija Girls Put On Heavy Make Up by topup: 4:16am On Aug 04, 2010
I have a theory that widely available porn, increase in the openness in promiscuity of our culture etc, mean women are becoming more desperate for attention, this is a global problem though, you should see how other women are dressing and putting on makeup. Everyone wants to be considered attractive and be attention grabbing these days, I can see why many women result to plastering their faces with all sorts of colours, and dressing 'vibrantly'.
Celebrities / Re: Actors Guild Bans Emeka Ike by topup: 3:54am On Aug 04, 2010
I guess he really is a bad guy then, I think we shouldn't take this so lightly, he is not just a threat within the world of acting, and of course the typical Nigerian doesn't care because they believe 'it won't happen to me' or 'I won't bump into him'.

He seems like a real threat to me, honestly, the battery etc. He probably knows a lot of people in reasonably high places, now before he actually tries to do something threatening, isn't there some kind of investigation that can be done, as a previous poster mentioned; he has been in and out of court several times and not been good with the law, there is more to this guy than meets the eye or these little snippetts we read here and there.

Politics / Re: Nigerian Government Patronising Nigerian Products by topup: 3:38am On Aug 04, 2010
I can't see why supporting your own country could possibly lead to failure, over time products will improve, technology will continue to develop, how can we as naive to think that imports are the only way forward. We should be proud of Nigerian products, encourage research so that one day the world will be importing all types of products from us, and not just leaking our oil.
Travel / Re: Eko Atlantic City. . Construction Update July 2010 by topup: 3:37am On Jul 19, 2010
I kinda agree with eseagu, we're happy to see development, but this does not address the current issue of lack of proper infrastructure. This island will only address the minority, it will actually do NOTHING to alleviate the problems in mainland Lagos, because those hwo have to deal with it are those who won't be able to afford the luxury apartments and residential quaters on Eko Atlantic.

I wish the government will just accept responsibility and address the problems with traffic in the city, where there is in fact a problem. Embellishing the city with an attractive coastline can come afterwards.

babapupa:

But your environmental and safety concerns has been tirelessly addressed by the state, the developers and the contractors. They've done all kinds of above specification simulations and if I might add, it was done by the best folks in the world. The folks running their mouth off about these red herring concerns either lack intellectual curiosity and are too lazy to read and look at all the available info and data or basically have other personal issues beyond this project.

Unlike a lot of know nothing talking heads in this thread, I'm a Lagosian and I make it my business to follow my state's policies and actions. This is a solid project and I'm satisfied with every bit of safety and environmental issues provided and the fact tat they hired the best folks in the world to handle it is a major plus.

Just because some head in the sand and ill informed folks are running their mouth off doesn't mean the issues raised are still out there unaddressed. Do your research and acquaint yourself with the project, I did and obviously paddy lo did too.

It's really frustrating and disheartening listen to people even you talking about what's been addressed in this and other threads. Have you read this thread from the first page?

You can not blame us for other people's silly motives or inability to read and comprehend.

Now about the projects I listed. We sometimes have to let these clueless people know what's going on around the state since in their shallow minds, the state is not doing anything or the state is not looking out for the poor.

They want the state to do everything under the sun for everybody, even for the thousands of people trooping into Lagos everyday,
I believe this is the SOLE purpose of the government, if it was a sorority, it would be called that. The government is supposed to constantly try and uplift everybody.

The question is, where in their mind do they think the state is gonna get the money from? from thin air. The state need projects like this and the ones I mentioned to allow people to collect paychecks and the state to collect taxes to better the lives of the masses and meets it's societal obligations.
There is money, just ask those feeding off it, causing projects to halt.

I read some of these people's nonsense and shake my head like are they for real or just hopelessly delusional.
You shouldn't call other people's opinions (especially since they disagree with yours. . nonsense).

Fashion / Re: Fixed Fake Hair by topup: 3:02am On Jul 18, 2010
My general opinion is literally to each their own.

Many men will come here professing that they don't like weaves or extensions, only to be dating the girl with the 'longest' hair, or the fullest hair. I do think deep down inside everyone wants to be trendy, not necessarily white, because even white people dye their hair, to get more european or asian browns and honey colours, or even scandinavian colours AND believe it or not, many use extensions too - practically ALL the Hollywood starlets use extensions, and even some men get hair transplants.

I guess, no one is ever happy with what God gave them.

My only problem with hair extensions, is that ok, I understand women have been wearing wigs worldwide for centuries (even asians), BUT not to the point where it was causing serious problems.

Wear a weave, wear a wig, wear glue extensions, fry your hair whatever, but at least take care of what God gave you.

It isn't true that you can't run your hands through afro hair, I didn't use to be able to run my fingers through my hair because I didn't know how to take care of it, but now I condition it and twist it, there are BARELY any kinks, which gives me less reason to want to relax/perm my hair.

I don't understand how my friends do what they do, most of them are balding if not already bald at the sides, yet they continue. I think it's as bad as those who wear too much makeup despite being sensitive to acne, if they just took care of their natural skin, went through the spotty phase, they would have beautiful healthy skin, just like hair, why let it break, why let the tight trendy braids and glue rip out your hair??

I don't understand why women do this. I used to never condition my hair and it used to break, as soon as I found my techniques, I took off my weaves, my hair is not in the healthiest condition so I refuse to relax it, people look at me as if 'why' am I doing this to myself.

>>>

I do sigh though, next to all my girlfriends with their 20 inch 'gorgeous' long 'feminine' extended manes, I feel just so simple, I find myself having to adorn myself more with makeup and jewellery, I need to find an in between.

For now, if I want a straight and sleek look, I will continue to straighten with a hot comb or straighteners, but NEVER relaxer.

Now, I'm just trying to grow my hair full and long - it's working!! smiley
Romance / Re: I Want To Marry Him by topup: 10:41pm On Jul 16, 2010
Go for it, it seems like you're implying that he's broke, so there should be some reason not to get married, bu you only live once, marry if you both agree and love each other.

wink.that sometimes happen but u can fill d space by sayin 'i love u'

But what if he doesn't??

Anyhoo, poster, the best thing is to just ask her to talk about what she's interested in, you can do this by just asking her the question: "what about you" after you've stated your own short opinion.

Your girlfriend doesn't seem to be so much of a talker, if both of you just accept that both you aren't big talkers, you can move on, however this could be a sign that you don't have much in common or you don't flow in conversation together. It depends if this is a big deal for you.

Wow, I made sure to watch the second part too!! This is horrible, I love the judge's response, that woman is selfish, she doesn't want a good man, she actually wants a bad boy, she has been in abusive relationships, that's all she knows, she's self-centred and yes, she is not thinking about her children.

Poor man.

I hope he doesn't get worn down by this. Rare gem!!

Celebrities / Re: Nigerian Parents Wants Aki & Pawpaw Banned From Nollywood by topup: 1:25am On Jul 12, 2010
I understand the parent's concern, however, this is just the way it works. For example I am sure when Britney spears was dancing all pure and then started dancing 'slave 4 u' I'm sure lots of teen girls were following, or how about Vanessa Carlton in Disney HSM, but then in real life releasing nude pictures of herself.

Romance / Re: We Met On Facebook Now I Dont Like Wat I Saw, How Do I Say I'm Sorry? by topup: 3:12am On Jul 09, 2010
It's probably best to withdraw, and if she confronts you about your withdrawal, then just tell her the full truth, it'll be painful, but when you play with someone's heart, you have to understand the consequences.

I understand this is the 'dating in the dark' scenario. You fell in love with her personality, but her looks have outweighed everything, and now when you think of her, you don't think of her personality or character, you think of her looks which you're not attracted to.

Is she really all that bad looking? Because you know once you let her go, you may never be able to get her back, especially if she's a catch in terms of her personality. It'll be painful for her to forgive, after all this would be a blast to the ego and confindence.

@topup: Thanks so much for these explanations, it makes it clearer, I was indeed confused with the abreviations, when people were telling me a sentence to learn, then they wouldn't pronounce it the exact same way in the daily life, Now, I still have a lot to learn but that's a step foward smiley

Well you don't seem to think you will 'get away with it', but is there another way you can tell her how you feel, I am sure she will get the hint and let you go, once she's got the hint, you can then break up with her, since you are already considering it.

It doesn't sound good though on your part, that the first thing you mention is that you're tired of sleeping with the same girl for 3 years, I am sure she's attached to you (I mean 3 years of a sexual relationship), if it is purely the s.ex that's boring, you could try working on it.

You see, eventually you won't be able to keep running away from things, one day you're going to have to prove that you can work on things.

Hey there,

You need to read up about Jehovah's witnesses and make up your own decision, because there is a reason why they are treated with gloves, they are even seen as a cult to many.

You've listed some very rational reasons there, what more do you want from us, you know th guy isn't serious, but is stubborn and a bit old-fashioned, and you're still considering it?

Wa je'on (wah-jeh-woon) - Come eat or let's eat.
Gb'enu e so'n (Gbeh-noo-eh-sor-oon) - Shut up !! Shut your mouth!! Stop talking.  shocked
Ki lo'n se e (Kee-loan-shey-eh)
Je ka lo (Jeh-kar-law) - Let's go!!
Ma bo (Mar-boh) - Come here!! Come towards me!! Come with me!!

Miss_Ife, luckily Yoruba pretty much follows the same sentence structure as English (Oyinbo). What you will find annoying is all the abbreviated versions. For example above "Wa je'on" is "Wa je owunje" (spelling??) owunje or onje (can't spell it) is the full word for food. When abbreviated it sounds like"o'nje", If written in full, "wa je o'nje" it means "Come eat food".

Subject Verb Object.

e.g. 1) I run to school.

Mo = (I)
sa = (run)
lo (to (relating to movement or travel))
Ile iwe (school)

Mo sa lo Ile Iwe.

----------------------

e.g. 2) I want to run to school.

Mo = (I)
fe = (Want or would like (also means marry))
sa = (run)
lo (to (relating to movement or travel))
Ile iwe (school)

Mo fe sa lo Ile Iwe.
Pronounced: (moe-feh-sah-law-ile-iwe)

This sentence could also mean, I want to quickly go to ile iwe (Which within a different context could imply you have some errands to run or manage in school and will be back soon).

Hope that helped smiley.
