I wanna ask; when I read my bible, sometimes do drop in my spirit, can I say its d holy spirit that talks to me?
You're welcome. Glad you found them helpful.

About the bolded, it depends on what you receive while readin the Bible. If it does not contradict the Word of God, you can be sure it is God.

engineerd: You are not Christ like....a true christian would not ask "Unbelievers" to keep out!
You will not be the first to say that. In the previous thread that was wiped out by the nairaland 'tsunami,' someone said the same thing, and I explained my reason for the title.

The thread is for and open to those who believe communion or conversation with God is one of the many privileges of the believers made possible by the death of Christ on the cross. It was created so we can learn from each other's experiences and challenges. It is meant for those who wish to contribute their knowledge or pieces of advice that will be valuable to someone out there in encouraging him or her to persevere in seekin God or learn how to seek God.

Unbelievers, on the other hand, have the natural tendency to dispute anything related to God since they have no interests in the things of God. They will try to engage one in unnecessary arguments which are unprofitable, derail the thread, and cause the purpose of the thread to be buried under heap of arguments so that others who would have benefited from it would be unable to do so. That is not the purpose of the thread.

They are free to say anything but turn the thread into another ground for argument.

SilentPsalmist: Hey brethren.
I'm encouraged to see this thread. I'm new. Its been 7 months for me. I'm still seeking. Its been discouraging lately but I won't give.

Lead me to the desert Lord
And teach me how to thirst
That I may not be quenched
Till I follow Thee in herst

Oh let me be the bush, My Lord
Whose flame always remains
The one that You've consumed
Yet who never fades away

Your hand is laid upon me
Before and behind
I'll wrestle with Thee ever
Until your face I find

I will not be quenched
Nor will be satisfied
Till your glory pass before me
And my face, like Moses', shines

So I'll ascend Thy mountain
On the rock of Christ I'll stand
I'll plead before You boldly
I'll not leave with empty hand

Wow. Very encouraging to hear that! Please don't give up. The salvation of hundreds or thousands of souls depend on the success of your journey.

Don't be discouraged. Truth is I've also felt like giving up, on many occasions, but when I remember the numerous giants of faith past and present like Richard Foster, Joyce Hugget, Mary Ruth Swope, Bishop David Oyedepo, etc, who searched for and found God, and the fact that God has promised that those who seek Him and hunger for Him shall be satisfied, I find strength to continue the journey. It is few people that see the Face of God - people like you who will not give up in their search for God until they find Him. Keep the fire burning.

Beautiful hymn! Just right because it captures the purpose of this thread. I don't know the song but the words speak volumes. We will not tire, give up, or quit till we see God face to face.

smurfy:

I remember doing a research on Thomas Hobbes after reading John's testimony. I discovered Hobbes was a celebrated writer who wrote a famous atheistic book called Leviathan. He actually left God out of the origins of the world in his book.

Famous atheists like Hobbes, Thomas Paine, Voltaire, Napoleon Bonaparte, Karl Marx, Mark Twain, Bruce Lee, etc. have promoted atheistic belief to the level it is today.
google and read The Thomas Welch Story, that is if you haven't read it. It is related to John Bunyan's testimony as regards atheism.

Those lost souls in hell...discovered too late the reality of hell, and the deceitfulness and transient nature of sin. Pitiful. This is enough reason for those alive to keep thanking God for the grace to change their eternal abode.

@ Prophetudeme, very good you ignored her words, but I feel you would have done better not to have mentioned names in the first place. We do people harm by accusing or criticising them. Be wise as serpents but harmless as doves.

Cute baby and beautiful mother.

I hate this practice of committing suicide when life deals one a heavy blow. It is plain stupidity and arrant foolishness.

Nobody is a stranger to pain or grief; her self-destruction has only served to magnify them.

Taking the easy way out is proof of blindness to see a better way out.

RIP to mother and child

@ Prophetudeme, amen to that. God will see us through.

WEEKLY UPDATE

I may be surrounded by brothers, sisters, friends, relatives, and total strangers, I may be in constant company of one or the other, I may find myself among a large or small crowd of people with similar or different goals and beliefs, I may even lead a multitude of people like Moses, however, I have discovered since beginning this journey that seeking God makes you walk alone in your thoughts, dreams, and actions.

I have felt acute loneliness despite being in the company of friends and loved ones. I still do. The path to friendship with God is a lonely, scarce-of-people, rocky, wilderness that reminds me gold is found in the most unlikely places - and Who I seek is far more precious than all the gold and precious stones the universe can ever produce...but this loneliness....

It is one reason among many people shy from seeking God. Only those whose hearts are burning, determined to know God will walk the lonely road and befriend it, the being or living apart from the rest of the crowd, if it is the only path they must take to see the Face of God.

Geez. Op, that evil spirit did not wrong Christians. He condemned himself by attempting to usurp authority which was and is forever out of his puny reach. For that he will pay with eternal suffering of an unimaginable kind.

Consequently, he became the arch enemy of anything or anyone related to God, especially man (me and you) who was created in the image of God. He hates God and he hates those created in God's image. He will do anything to destroy us, that is why he doesn't rest.

He did not wrong Christians; he became the great enemy of Christians after his fall. It is war. We will crush his head because he is at war with my Father, the Almighty I AM. We are not commanded to love demons; our duty is to crush, pulverize, smash, thump, thwack, slap, hit, clobber the Devil and his demons whenever and wherever. And this will continue till he is thrown into his ultimate and eternal habitation of suffering. There is no peace for the wicked.

If you choose the great Deceiver to be your father, then you will share in his failure and eternal doom. Be warned

What kind of preventive remedy is this that has circulated widely without an authentic source? By now, anybody with common sense should know this remedy is false and ineffective in keeping one from contracting the virus. The necessary steps to prevent ebola from infecting one has already been spelled out in various articles scattered all over the internet.

Don't get me wrong, salt water bath may be a preventive measure against the spread of this disease, but it has not been verified by any professional medical body or health organization neither has its potency being attested to by anyone, not to mention the anonymous source of this remedy.

Most importantly, pray. Pray against infection by the virus or any other kind. Pray for yourself, your loved ones and the nation. Prayer is the greatest preventive and curative remedy for a virus without cure.

God will see Nigeria and Africa through any storm as He has always done.
Religion / Re: How Can I Stop Masturbating by torchwave: 9:53pm On Aug 06, 2014
Op, don't give heed to any voice that tells you it is perfectly natural. The flesh can never please God, and that is why Jesus said the only condition to follow Him is to deny self.

Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:27, But I keep control of my body, and bring it into subjection, lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

1Thessalonians 4:4 also says, that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable.

God knows you can master your body because He made you more than a conqueror.

The reason people think they can't defeat sin is because they don't want to deny their flesh the pleasures of sin. It is as simple and complex as that. Learn to control your body by denying it and you will see that you are greater than sin, not the other way round.

A more excellent way to defeat sin daily which never fails is to walk in love. Love does not seek its own satisfaction.

Elijah78: At what point do i need to fast brethren?
I am no authority on fasting but I will suggest you fast when you are led to do it.

In my case, since I began searching for God, I make sure I never eat much during the day and nothing, or very little at most, at night so as not to be weighed down whenever I wake to pray. I always go to bed hungry or partly satisfied because then my flesh is subdued and my spirit becomes alive to receive from God. That is how I go about taming my flesh which is akin to fasting.

It is real difficult, more difficult than fasting because it is now my way of life and it works wonderfully.

However, if the fasting you have in mind is for another purpose, then embark on it if your heart tells you to do so.

Note: Fasting does not change God; it makes your spirit rise above your flesh so that you can pray effectively and be able to receive fresh revelation from God for your life since your spirit is in the driver's seat and God communicates with the spirit.

Good job, torchwave and busybody

This is what we need in this section and not some endless argument.
thanks.

If there is one thing I will never do in my life, it is to argue with skeptics that God talks to His children individually and specifically concerning any issue of life if they are willing to listen for His voice. That is a no no.

I learnt from my big mistake of engaging in such kinds of argument in the past that I have no power to convince anybody of the reality and possibility of dialogue with God, so why should I even try?

Welcome back brother. It gives me great pleasure to know I'm not the only one on this journey. smiley

Glad you found them tips useful. I learned from those who have made their journey and found God. In essence, they are things I learned from those who learned from others before them...and it goes on like that.

I thank God for His grace on you to be consistent in seeking Him.

Indeed, someday, in the near future when conversation with God has become a daily affair, we shall look back on our journey and thank God we took the pain and made the necessary sacrifices to see the Face of God.

josh001: The place of fellowship, the place of the word, the place of prayer, the place of praise. These three are key in the place of fellowship.
fact #1: God is not man that He should lie, he has promised to reward those who diligently seek Him.Note that diligence may connote seemingly stupid perseverance and acidic faith.
fact #2: Seek more of the comforter, the holy spirit. It is good to want to see God with face, o what Glories unspeakable, something all Christians crave for but few are willing to pay the price including me. In your place of waiting however, why don't you commune with the holyspirit. I do want to believe that you are baptised with the holyspirit, and you are sure of the infilling. He us with us for a purpose and we need not go through much stress for the purpose to come good. With total faith, just ask the holyspirit to grant you audience. After that, take your Bible and tell the holyspirit to explain things to you. Have no doubt, it is expected, just as how you trust your switch to always bring light when it is on. From there, go deeper in fellowship with the holyspirit, He will help your prayer life and your place of the Word.
Very well said

misreal: wow..what if the voice does not come.
Then keep seeking till you hear it. It may not come easily, and it may take time to hear it but you must be willing to pay the price of keeping your daily appointment with Him until you begin to dialogue or converse with Him.

Do you know this is my eight month of seeking His voice? So don't be discouraged if you don't hear anything at first or for a long time. God is very happy you're seeking Him and He will reward you in due time if you don't give up.

can I play a worship song with my phone while waiting and what body position is advisable.that is weda to lie or sit down
You can assume any posture that is comfortable with you. You could decide to sit or stand or lie or kneel if it is what works for you. There is no rules and regulations in listening to God. However, I've discovered that sitting seems to be the more acceptable posture. It makes you relax inwardly and outwardly so that you will be able to give your full concentration to the listening process. Standing is also good. In fact, in my opinion, it doubles your concentration and attention to the inward voice of God.

As regards worship music. I should let you know first that the idea of listening to God entails or requires the medium of silence. There are many Scripture verses on the essence of silence before God. Psalm 46:10 says, Be still and know that I am God. It is in that stillness, the silence of your heart and environment that God is able to talk to you.

Music should not be a way of passing time waiting for God to speak. It defeats the purpose of being silent before God.

However, there is a place for worship music in listening prayer. When you use it to achieve stillness before God and it helps you stay your mind on meditation, then by all means incorporate it into your quiet time with God. I have done it once or twice and found it really helpful in maintaining my awareness of God and listening to Him.

In the end do what works for you. That is the most important aspect of your listening prayer - experimenting and choosing the listening aids that work for you.

I have also updated the steps in listening prayer with a very important aspect of listening prayer I omitted. It is about Distractions and how to overcome them in your listening prayer.

Hope it helps. If you have any more questions concerning seeking God, do let me know. We are here to help each other grow in the Christian Faith.

Religion / Re: Seeking The Face Of God - The Journey by torchwave: 8:17am On Aug 02, 2014
Hello Misreal. I believe the only explanation for your desire to want more of God is the fact that God is the One drawing you closer to Himself (John 6:44).

Friendship with God is the highest calling of the human race; it is the reason we were created.

I shall outline the basic steps to take to begin your quest to know God. However, they are by no means the only steps to closeness with God. They are:

Keep a daily time with God: Have a daily appointment with God that you should endeavour to keep. It could be early morning, noon or night. It depends on which is convenient for you.

Take time to listen for His voice: Specify an amount of time to listen to God. It could be an hour or two, thirty minutes, fifteen minutes, ten minutes, five minutes or even two minutes if it is what you can afford.
Don't try to impress God by trying to keep the amount of time that is uncomfortable to you. Experiment and do what works for you. When you have specified the duration of time to spend in His Presence, do as much as possible to keep it.
If in keeping any amount of time you discover it is uncomfortable or doesn't work for you, please try another one. The keyphrase is what works for you.

Meditate on the Word of God or on God: This is the key that tunes your spiritual ears to hear from God. You could decide to meditate (picture) on the Word or picture Christ beside you as you listen for His still small voice in your heart. This is what you do for the duration of the time you have specified to spend in His Presence listening for His voice. Whichever one you choose, Bible or picture or awareness of Jesus Christ beside you or in you, it achieves the same purpose of making you sensitive to the voice of God.

*updated*

Distractions: You will notice that when you begin to pray (listening for the voice of God), your mind seems to take a trip, and that all your efforts to keep it from wandering seems to be in vain. It just ups and jumps into some other irrelevant thoughts without warning giving you an extra duty of having to drag it back to focusing on the listening process. Your mind cannot just stay focused for a long time on meditation that you feel you are getting nowhere. That, my friend, is what is commonly known as distraction.

Distraction in prayer can also come in the form of things to do.

The only way to combat distraction in prayer is to love it. Don't fight it. Fighting it will only result in your tuning out the voice of God. You will block your sensitivity to the Holy Spirit if you fight distraction.

Whenever your mind temporarily wanders from meditation, gently bring it back to meditation because it is also a part of your prayer time.

If thoughts of what you ought to do come up, give your attention to them and write them somewhere on a todo list or assure them of attending to them after your prayer time. That will do the trick. However, they will not cease. You must love them as part of your listening prayer to be able to achieve stillness.

That is basically where to begin your journey to know God, but it doesn't end there.

You should listen to God all day, everyday. It doesn't start and end in your prayer closet. You do this by being aware of His Presence beside you or in you wherever you are or wherever you go.

Develop the habit of talking to God about anything. Don't try to hide your feelings from Him. He already knows what you feel but He loves it when you tell Him, because when you do He is there listening to you.

Dialogue with God is as simple as ask Him a question and wait for a reply from Him.

God reveals Himself at the appointed time. He may begin talking to you shortly after your journey has begun or it may take a long time (like mine). Whatever time it takes to know Him is the price you pay to know Him, it is the accurate guage of your hunger and desire to dialogue with Him. Don't despair if nothing seems to work for a long time. He will surely talk to you if you don't give up.

I hope this helps you to begin your journey to see the Face of God.

striktlymi: Getting a formal education, though a 'good to have', is not exactly a necessity. I think you should do what works best for you. If your talents are best harnessed through a formal education then by all means go for it but if not then do something else that best suites your 'interest'. It matters not if the rapture is tomorrow.
Agree with you on that.
