my sister-in-law just had anew baby,i'll rather vote for that baby as our president than to have ibb.

look,i'll support obasanjo for president come 2007,2011,2015,life president than to have this crook called ibb.

PLEASE SEUN CLOSE THIS THREAD. SHIT.I CAN'T STAND IT.

I think part of our problem comes from the moderates both North and South but, especially from the North not coming out in the open against these fudmentalists that keep causing trouble.
may be. at that time, moderate muslims all over the u.k came to london to demonstrate peacefully.they showed the world the true side of islam.i think nigerian moderate muslims should do the same.
Politics › Re: Can An Igbo Man Become The President Of Nigeria? by toshmann(m): 11:08am On Mar 04, 2006
the ibo race is unfortunately politically naive. they don't seem to appreciate that the best way to make a head way is unity.unity has never been in the ibo agenda.historically, the ibo is an egaliterian race.all man for himself and no one is king(igbo amaghi eze i.e igbo knows no king).this weighs the ibos down politically.but the hausas and yorubas have had political experience for centuries.the efiks have political history too,the binis, etc.but not the ibos.that's why ibos fall into political blunders all the time.

for now,an ibo man can't be president. they don't have the unity. they may never get the presidency unless it is "given" to them through rotational presidency.otherwise it may never get to them.

i believe nigerian doctors are giving thier best bearing the circumstances.sure some are very bad but majority have thier moral duty at the back of thier mind.

u should see how under-equipped nigerian hospitals are.yet doctors work in those conditions and bring out something.most european doctors cannot work in the conditions nigerian doctors do.

more grease to naija doctors

how can they focus on thier studies when they see guys who graduated with good grades roaming the street due to unemployment.there is no need again for hardwork.so they follow what they see as a route to success.most people wont do that if they had good jobs.

honestly i don't know why seun is so bitter about reprisal attacks(which is understandable on its own but, )but he is apparently not emphatically bitter about the primary attacks that lead to the reprisals.abi no be innocent people die for north?

he said the reprisal wont stop future attacks, hmmn.but the attacks had no effect on the cartoons. the guy who drew those cartoons said he has no regrets.period.this guy may not even be a christain(europeans are generally secular, don't believe the bible or God or Jesus)

Emphasis should be on prevention of future attacks. more should be done about this religious issue in nigeria.
Politics › Re: How Will History Remember Obasanjo? by toshmann(m): 12:53am On Mar 03, 2006
i'll remember him as the GENERAL COMMANDER OF THE PEOPLE DESTROYING PEOPLE organisation for the GOVERNMENT OF THOSE PEOPLE BY THOSE PEOPLE FOR THOSE PEOPLE.

just that the other presidents are not better. cryoh, nigeria.

may be i should try not to remember him at all(oh but he increased my salary when i was workin in naija.hmmn!)okay i'll remember him as i stated above.

prophet toshmann's prediction from the year 2007

2007 3rd term succeeds
2010.vision 2010.campaign for 4th term ensues
2011. 4th term realised
2014.constitutional ammendment to allow for 5th and "final" term.all opposition crushed.national assembly closed down.
2015. 5th term begins, etc etc etc

guys, what are we going for? a constitutional government (government controlled by the constitution) or a governmental constitution (constitution controlled by the government of the day). from 2007 onwards, every president that rules this country will ammend the constitution. when will we learn?

i agree with u to an extent, but the failure of the parliamentry system( and indeed the presidential system) was not due to the system in itself but due to the players of the system (i.e politicians). a contibutor to the formulation of the indian constitution warned rightly that no matter how good a constitution is,it will turn out bad if the politicians are bad and no matter how bad a constitution is it may turn out good if the politicians are good.

now, the parliamentry system is cheaper, and it ensures that the prime minister is not too powerful as he has to face the house more frquently to explain issues(not make address like a president will do) i admire the british system when i see blair struggling in parliament to explain his decisions.ministers can also face the senate/house. it has been working for some countries,it may work for ours.

u cant say we should dump it jus b/c it failed in the 60s,presidential system failed in the 80s too.but we know why they failed(politicians)

i think we may choose that system which is cheaper. what do u say?

Politics › Re: Is Nigeria On The Verge Of Civil War? by toshmann(m): 12:56am On Mar 02, 2006
i understand ur fears, but don't u think that over centralisation of power to the president makes the presidency so controversial in nigerian history?

we must not have regional police and army, only govts with a prime minister at the center and not president. i.e a paliamentry system of govt. don't u think it may help us?i don't quite understand what u mean by southern student not feeling at home in a northern part of the country. that has always been the case even today. when i was in secondary school(i schooled at one of the unity schools )the northern students were not paying the same school fees i paid.many of them paid less b/c thier state govt paid for them.even today, getting admission into nigerian universities means different JAMB scores for different students from different parts of the same country! huh

and by the way, nigeria is not a homogenous society. it is very heterogenous with over 250 tribes and languages.

cheers

Politics › Re: Marginalisation Of The Igbos: How True? by toshmann(m): 2:10am On Mar 01, 2006
baba, with all his bad sides can manage to boast of a few good points. but those good points pale in comparison to his mistakes. however, one bad thing which he'll do and all his little good will be wiped from nigerian memory is this 3rd term issue.

listen, the 3rd term is not about 2007. it is about nigeria's future.50-100-1000yrs to come. it is a horrible precedent. it means any future president can come in and change the constitution. it reduces our constitution to a mere piece of paper.

the u.s constitution has served that country for over 200yrs with about 80 ammendments. the u.k has no written constitution but it's laws are one of the most difficult to ammend on earth. in 40yrs nigeria has had about 5 different constitutions and the last one (1999 constitution)is only 7yrs old and we are rushing to make over 100 changes in it including 3rd term.ha!

i pity those legislators being used today, when it will boomerang on them i'll offer no apologies. when issues of emergency rule was debated in high political meetings, many governors overlooked it b/c they thought it was aimed at ngige but when the axe came,it landed somewhere else.

when audu ogbe was busy rigging the elections in 2003,he was happy, when it came back calling he cried foul.i didn't pity him.diya followed abacha against the wishes of his people, when the bubble bursted,we know how it happened.so let the legislators change the constitution.i'm a christain,God will always see me thru,no matter who is ruling(he may even make me gain from the 3rd term)but the nation will never forget her villains.
Crime › Re: Christians Killing Muslims In Onitsha by toshmann(m): 1:31am On Mar 01, 2006
but u see,now we have the classical nigerian solution to serious problems;temporary palliative solution.the army wont be in the street forever, tempers are still high, probability for another attack in the future is very high.i suggest we get the muslim and christain communities together to talk. let us go beyond "stop fighting" to "what happened, can we be friends" let us try and get to the root of this problem and see what we can achieve.

finally, peace is not just the absence of war but the presence of justice(martin luther king jnr) let the govt ensure equity in the system.

God bless Nigeria.

Thank you
Crime › Re: Christians Killing Muslims In Onitsha by toshmann(m): 1:24am On Mar 01, 2006
good chyxta, violence begets violence therefore no one should start violence. the ibos have never started violence. hence i feel u guys should concentrate ur efforts to those who have always started violence in nigerian history.the north started violence all the time in nigeria.the only time i can remember that the north did not start violence was in 1999 july when the yorubas started violence in shagamu against the hausas and there were reprisal attacks in kano against the yorubas(take note;reprisal attacks did not start this year)

mariory,i think we should encourage the govt to do more to avoid future occurrence of this sort of nonsense. reports have it that while there was violence in the north,a good chunk of security personelle who would have been more useful in stopping the carnage were rather sent to the constitution centers to protect politicians bent on bending the constitution for the sake of 3rd term.

good, the politicians need security, but with what was going on I expect a responsible govt to act more wisely. now with reprisals the message is clear,if unchecked,a civil war is looming. u cant beat history.
Crime › Re: Christians Killing Muslims In Onitsha by toshmann(m): 1:39pm On Feb 28, 2006
the logic is that the repeated attacks unwittingly gives the murderers the false belief that they can do anything and get away with it. with reprisal attacks, which is a signal of the readiness and possibility of a civil war,the primary killers will think twice before attacking again. even if they don't, the govt will take such scenarios more seriously and be better prepared for such eventualities.

the attacks was not just against the northerners,it was also a signal to the govt that they should sit up,security wise.if there were no reprisals the killers will feel that nothing serious happened.undeterred they will be ready to do it again.

for the innocent that died. well, what can i say?human life is sacrosanct. i've lost a family member before,i know how it feels. i tell u. but history has it that in any conflict innocent souls always die.

innocent souls died in the biafran war.
innocent souls died in world war 1 and 2
innocent souls died in iraq
innocent souls died in afghanistan
innocent souls died from the economic sanctions placed on nigeria targeting the abacha regime caused abject poverty to nigeria
innocent souls died in the balkans during the war in bosnia -herzegovnia
innocent souls died on 911
innocent souls died in the india-pakistani conflicts
innocent souls died in the rwandan wainnocent souls died in the somalian war
innocent souls died in the liberian war
the list is endless, there is no conflict that innocent souls don't die.
that is why conflicts should be avoided.

note that if nothing happens to stop primary killers, innocent souls will contnue to get killed unless/until the innocent souls become guilty souls

It's unfortunate that Seun does not believe in the existence of any god.

seun is it true? i hope it is not. b/c,if it is true, then u have no "locus standi" to comment on religious issues in a religious country like nigeria.
