PoliticsRe: Help! Fashola Has Banned One Of Our Cultures: Owanbe Street Party. by tpia: 8:29pm On May 14, 2008
true.

members of my friend's church in the US used to park everywhere until police officers started hanging around on sundays in order to give them parking tickets. This situation created a lot of revenue for the police department every Sunday until the church decided to make special announcements before the sermon, for members to park in the designated proper parking lot across the street.

I'm sure they reduced the police officers' joy by encouraging people to park in the right place. Before then, people would come out of church to find parking tickets on their windshields. And over there, if you don't pay the fine, it keeps doubling until you decide to pay it. So a $50 parking ticket can become $100 if you want to prove stubborn. And keep increasing for as long as you want it to.

Jokes EtcRe: The Funniest F/m Nairalander by tpia: 5:24pm On May 14, 2008
one of the funniest female nairalanders has to be Almondjoy for sure.

even when she's mad and cussing out everyone in sight, sometimes in retrospect her language is so funny.

the funniest male nairalanders. Hmmm. Tough one. Could include 4play, prince-onx (this guy's style is something else). Maybe Doyin13 sha- though much of what he says has to be taken with a grain of salt.

oh yeah, I musnt forget willywilly the arrant tribalist. His war with Yoruba people will never end.

The ones who go around opening senseless threads about Nigerian girls this, Nigerian girls that, are also funny, in a very senseless way.

RomanceRe: Is It Right To Date A Married Man? by tpia: 4:28pm On May 14, 2008
nothing wrong with dating a married man if you don't care about little things like peace of mind and juju.

Or being relegated to second class position when your married lover gets tired of you and goes looking for fresher pastures. Bringing home the new girlfriend. undecided

true there are quite a lot of rogue doctors who will shag anything that moves, but it doesnt mean they're all like that. undecided

and yes, some of them have questionable social skills due to too much reading.

but hey, whatever it takes to succeed. You have to do what you have to do.

FoodRe: What Do You Eat With Yam? by tpia: 2:53pm On May 14, 2008
elizabetta:
THE FIRST PART

(1)Yam,salt or sugar, water.Put water on the fire and add enough sugar, peel the yam(preferable  cut into smaller bits)wash and add to the boiling water, the water should not be much so that the water drys up when the yam,so people sieve the water out but is better for the water to dry with the yam.
true @ bolded.

elizabetta:
THE SECOND PART

(2)Garden eggs,vegetable oil,salt,tomatoes,pepper(if the unripe ones are available,good)crayfish,fish,fresh shrimps,knorr,onions.
put water on the fire, add garden eggs, put tomates, pepper, crayfish in a clean rubber bag,add to the garden egg on the fire, allow to cook.Peel the fresh shrimps, clean the fish.when the garden egg is cooked remove and put in cool water and peel of the skin along with the tomatoes, put the peeled garden egg, pepper, peeled tomatoes and crayfish in a bowl and mash.Put oil on the fire, add dice onoins, mashed crayfish, mashed tomatoes, mashed pepper, fish ,shrimps, salt and knorr and allow to cook, then add mashed garden egg and stir, and allow to cook for like 5mins then is ready to be serve with the yam. This is way i like it,others prepare theirs differently.
nice.

Also, the Nigerian variety of garden egg tastes better than the long purple American one. At least when eating it with yam. The taste is stronger and better.
CrimeRe: Incest! Man Keeps Daughter Captive For 24yrs by tpia: 2:44pm On May 14, 2008
I dont see what Nigeria has got to do with this topic.

of course cases of incest are found in every country in the world, and the general outcry is still the same regardless if its discovered in Africa, Europe, Asia or the middle east.

This particular father imprisoned his daughter for 24 years and fathered seven children with her. That's the main point here.

@lucabrasi

also are you a jelouse person and can you handle your wife/girlfriend being in the midst of male doctors most of the time in the night,at odd times and not have your mind going riot?
Most times its a strictly professional relationship and not what you're thinking here.

Remember- your doctor girlfriend also went to school for six or more years with her male colleagues.

~Yams w/ Sugar shocked thats a first for me!

~The only way i have eaten yams is with chicken/fish/meat stew!! nvr tried it with anything else, maybe there'll be something i'll be willing to try from your posts,i'll keep checking!! tongue
yam with sugar and salt is great. You add the sugar to the water before cooking, along with the salt. Makes for a nice dish. You have to use a lot of sugar though, to get the taste.

I also like slicing yams very thin, instead of thick and chunky. The thinner slices are easier to dice and eat.

But thicker slices are great for soaking in palm oil with a sprinkle of salt. cheesy

as for what goes with yam- just about anything. Eggs, garden eggs, fish sauce, pepper and onion sauce, palm or veggie oil, you name it.

I just posted on your other thread before seeing this one.

I did think you looked like jailbait.

You must be the youngest person on this site.

hmmmm.

have you tried myspace or Facebook, where you can get more people your age to hang out with?

Guys, please watch yourselves oh. Or if you like, dont watch yourselves.

By the way, are you close to some Nigerians in your area maybe?

Nairaland GeneralRe: Strongly Connected Nairalanders by tpia: 4:27am On May 09, 2008
lysaa:
I have come to a conclusion that there are some Nlanders who are strongly connected. Based on my observation though, any thread, no matter where as long as its on Nairaland, that their names are mentioned, they appear there without wasting time.Seriously, they could be on sports and some mentions their name in religion section, next u get a reply from them right there in religion. I don't know what they do to get there or how they do it, it just works for them. Its amazing. Can u guys please tell me the secret?
lmao.

Saw the thread title and thought it was a name dropping thread. As in "people knowing people".

lol.
PoliticsRe: BBC & Nigeria by tpia: 2:38am On May 09, 2008
@ landis:

I'm not sure why you find the write up offensive? huh

true, BBC often publishes negative stuff about Nigeria, but this particular report isnt too bad, in my opinion.

They are talking about Kano street hawkers, and I personally found it very interesting, save for the bit about elephant dung. Whoever feeds that to their child because they believe the street hawker, will have themselves to blame when that child develops diarrhea.

Slide 4 actually shows people know the basics of taxidermy- except that in a poverty situation, such knowledge is wasted.
RomanceRe: The I Have A Son Story by tpia: 2:25am On May 09, 2008
some guys may be doing it to get on the girl's softer side. Though lying about it is a bit extreme.

But guys with kids are very sexy- especially when you see them taking the kid/s to the store or just going out for a walk or something.

especially the ones pushing baby strollers. There's just something about their helpfulness thats so cute. cheesy

besides, it shows the man is quite caring, responsible and grounded, if he's taking time to raise his kid. Says a lot about his character.

Am not talking about the guys who are busy turning various girls into baby mamas oh. I mean responsible ones who actively take part in childcare and enjoy doing so.

I just don't understand this. I am nigerian of course but I was born here in the United states. And I from their standards "don't LOOK african!!" I get this all the time, I know you guys know what im talking about. Alot of African Americans try to make fun of my people, until they realize that IM AFRICAN. I just don't understand the logic that many have. Do you guys know what I'm talking about??

They don't realize how stupid they sound?
So they werent BORN in AFRICA, but their heritage is there, matter of fact it is the MOTHER LAND OF ALL heritages?

I just don't understand why they look down on Africa?
