TV/Movies › Re: Would You Show Nollywood Films To Your Foreign Friends? by tpia5: 9:09am On Nov 11, 2010
some foreigners like watching nollywood movies.

your mode of reference [does that make sense] is different from theirs, since they'd be watching as people from outside the culture, so i doubt you should worry about it unless they gave you an actual reason to.
TV/Movies › Re: Actors, Storylines & Directors. Which Matters More? by tpia5: 9:05am On Nov 11, 2010
depends on context.

in nigeria, the actors seem to matter more while in the west generally storyline is important, or sometimes a combination of all three.

imo.

^^doesnt matter sweetie.

we are all being judged anyway- from the lowest to the highest church member.

blocking enquiry into issues that are a matter of concern for both christians and non-christians alike, will take us nowhere. Because sooner or later what began as a little stream will morph into a mighty river just like we're seeing.

true, God knows the end of a matter from it's beginning but He is also the revealer of secrets.

asians tend to lead in the science and math fields.

does anyone have an idea why this is so.

practice, discipline or do they just have a greater interest in learning.

hence the dichotomy.

The funny thing about the fulani versus yorubas wars is that most of the intrepid generals in the fulani rank were yorubas
not surprising.

Politics › Re: The Gang-up Against Emeagwali Is Ethnically Motivated by tpia5: 3:12pm On Nov 10, 2010
like i said, there's more to the matter than meets the eye.

why do you assume it's yorubas who are behind this?

the write up I read was written by a non-yoruba.

do a little research before jumping to conclusions.

just because some yorubas commented doesnt mean you should go haywire.

geez.

birdman:
Modakeke were Oyo war migrants as you said. They were technically indentured servants because the Ife retained ownership of that land. Hence Modakeke paid homage and taxes to Ife, which is all well and good. To ask for the same homage post Nigeria, and definitely post Awo's western region unification is retarded, and most Yoruba understand this. No Yoruba is slave to another,  an idea the Ooni cant wrap his head around obviously. The last, really bloody war during Abach'a regime was triggered by the Ooni sending his men to ransack and disgrace the Modakeke community leader, 1850 style. He was pretty sure he could get away with it, seeing as he was in bed with Abacha at the time.
hmmm

hercules07:
We should do away with these traditional rulers, they are nothing but leeches on the common man jare. As per Modakeke, they were not servants, they moved to Ife when they had an Ooni that really loved them, seeing as they were subjects of his overlord, he gave them land and so many other things and they reciprocated the love, when he died, the new Ooni did not like them at all and made sure he fought them, the Modakeke dealt with him and his people (fighting fulanis no be beans na) and drove the Ifes into the bush, they later had a rethink amongst themselves saying they can not drive away the owners of the land, this happened twice more, the last war that was fought saw the coming of the white man; the Modakekes were asked by the white man who had intervened to move from where they had settled to a settlement far away in order for peace to return, they refused initially but the Ibadans prevailed on them to move (the ibadans were their defenders anyway) and they did. The present settlement of the Modakekes is not where they were initially.
hmmm

Hrm. Still, let us remember that division in Yorubaland has pretty much preceded all of our defeats. We have other enemies in this land and cannot afford to succumb to infighting. Next few years will be critical in our history; we have to keep our eyes on the prize.

why was that.

who wanted to evict Modakeke because they were indentured servants some hundred years ago
can you explain further abi you just want to scatter this place.

never heard this version before. I thought the modakekes migrated from oyo due to the fulani invasion or internecine wars.

when did they become indentured servants or are you referring to the farms they cultivated for the Ifes or some other such thing.

according to statistics that 70% of Afr. Amer. children are born out of wedlock
i was reading an article about this today and it gave the statistic as 72%.

this is indeed worrying if true and black women need to examine what exactly went wrong.

i dont think slavery alone should account for such figures in the 21st century.

lord have mercy.

Politics › Re: A New Vista Of War As Eleme Battle Ogoni by tpia5: 4:38am On Nov 10, 2010
just did a little research on ogoni and it seems eleme was once considered part of them.

one of their languages is called gokana and legend has it they migrated from ghana although this isnt set in stone.

they have the ability to network undetected extensively with other tribes in the southeast. Ijaw in particular.

they were also affiliated with opobo.

during the ken saro wiwa saga, thousands of them were transported to Benin [possibly benin republic] and the US as refugees due to the warfare in the region.

they seem to be traditional enemies of the okrika though i could be wrong.

they were relatively untouched by the trans-atlantic slave trade.

obama recently honored an ogoni man serving in the US army with a medal of some sort- i remember reading about that.

most of the oilfields in the niger delta seem to be located in their region.

Food › Re: Whale In Lagos(with Pics) by tpia5: 7:15pm On Nov 09, 2010
ezeagu:
Could you people stop comparing rotten whale meat to well slaughtered, well cooked and well prepared meats that we've all seen being slaughtered every Christmas (and may have slaughtered ourselves)? The underneath of whales is white, the blubber. If you don't have a problem with people eating something that can cause a health pandemic (some of them are still claiming to have hurt stomachs) than that's fine, but it does not change the fact that that is dead rotten meat that was not killed by humans, well not for consumption and not immediately before cutting it apart. I guess most are in the crowd that believes that disease spreading doesn't happen among Nigerians because they are somehow stronger than everybody else only because they don't know of how many health problems Nigerians actually suffer. Again, the whale is rotten. That's dirty.
well, while you're busting your pantaloons over the matter, people who ate it have shat it out.

health pandemic can also catch you where you are, regardless if you ate whale meat or not.

finito.
