ORIAYO70:Chief Adebayo Akande and Harry Akande don't belong to the same family. The former is the husband of a former minister in the second republic, owner of two popular radio stations and the hall you mentioned while Harry Akande is an internationally reknown businessman |
At least soldiers won't be sent to kill them if this is all they're doing.... ![]() |
afube:We really need to also curb this victim and paranoid mentality. It's always about southern business, eastern business, western business. I think this is one of the reason we can't gather as a people and fight our common enemy: the politicians. If the lag happening at Tin can is aimed at southern businesses, do you think there's no way people from the north will suffer from it? Are southerners the only one using the Tin can road? If the road is well maintained and law and order enforced while Tin can road remains the major route for container transportation, don't you think the road would still operate without a lag? Is there a part of Nigeria that's exclusively like Dubai? Why then should we be focusing on ethnic or regional aspects of our problem while this same factor is what has brought our development to a standstill since over 60 years ago? |
Humans are created with a vacuum to have an object of adoration. Celebrity worship is what has filled the vacuums of the said followers. To some, it's God, to some it's their pastors, imams and other religious leaders, yet to some, it is politics. They're all objects of adoration. What you choose to open the vacuum to depends on you. |
plaindealer:The bolded is exactly the reason you should shut up sir if indeed you intended to 'thank God' as you said. Those on queue as you've seen are in their cars, neat cars meaning they're not all among the poorest of the poorest yet, the government provided a foodbank. But here you are sir, in your mount Olympus of plentousness and abundance, oblivious of thousands of children on the streets tugging at people's clothes for 20 naira, 10 naira etc so they can eat yet, you're talking about many Americans who can't afford a plate of rice. Let's even do the calculation: America is over 300 million in population, Nigeria is estimated to be a little over 200 million yet, it is the poverty capital of the world with over 100 million poor households. Now, what do you mean by saying "many Americans cannot afford a plate of rice"? Are you talking about a thousand, a hundred thousand or about 100 million like the case in Nigeria. If politicians can't solve the nation's problem, they should resign and pave the way for the way for those who can and not comparing Nigeria with America. Nigeria is not America either in ideology, HDI, culture or any other method of comparison. |
He simply wants to renew his popularity. Remember, I don't know he is until he slapped a woman. Him slapping another person now means he wants other people to know him. |
Toixc capitalism in a yet-to-develop society like Nigeria is indeed a big wrought of iron chains tying down our development. Nigeria is not ripe for the capitalism we practice presently where a chicken feeds on the intestines of another chicken to survive. The 'money-must-be-made' mentality is surely our number one problem as a people. |
For that individual who keeps claiming atheism, I'll respect you enough if you can come up and tell us how many discourse of philosophers and thinkers at least in the 20th century that you have consumed. If you haven't read enough of them, you're just an experimental lab-rats in the hands of second level philosophers (artists, poets, musicians). Atheism is not a sign of intelligence and for your information, you can't be conversant with the Bible, claiming you're intelligent and come back to say the book is all trash. Intelligent people don't pass insults to make their points and they don't get emotional while arguing. In most cases also, they don't go all out to tell us how much intelligent they are. If you're not sure ask Einstein, Hawkins, Marie Curie, Nikola Tesla, Dostoevsky etc. |
More voices....we need more voices... All those people above me saying cheap talk, talk talk etc, if it's that easy to restructure the present system, the person who ought to have done that the most is GEJ. We already know that those people from the North are hell-bent on keeping the present corrupt system and we fell for their deception. Now, all we need is voices and more voices such that the federal government will hear nothing else from day to day except restructuring and restructuring. |
4merry:To a large extent, that place looks like ESUT. Don't think the message is correct though. |
Abusadiq01:I don't support show off too but we can't say that awards are all that he has achieved. All he has achieved are not tangible i.e fame, goodwill, wealth, competency etc. Awards are just for showcasing the recommendations others have given him and if you can show your recommendations to outsiders, then it really doesn't have any value. |
pegix:Paper works and junks because we don't have much understanding of what goes on in the business of academics. But this same paper works and junks is one of the major things that pushed UI to be among the top 500 universities in the world. |
lazkizz:They don blow keh? Do you know how much some of these lecturers spend out of their pockets to carry out research works especially since their promotion is limited without research and publication. |
Only if we would have beautiful hearts like the beautiful interiors of these churches. |
fk001:Nigeria is not being held back by Northerners from restructuring. If Nigeria is really interested in the change of her constitution, Northerners can't stop them. The problem with Nigeria: the southerners and northerners is that the northern oligarchs love feudalism and they are thriving because they have accomplices from the south. They have them in the East and in the West. Those who for love of power and money don't care about the survival of their people. If these set of people can be dealt with through a strong southern unity, Nigeria will definitely become what we want it to become. A few millions of people in major parts of the country can achieve this. |
Christistruth00:No sir. Their real aim is to stop Buhari and his over-confident co-political elites from thinking all is well when in fact nothing is. Finally, they'd be forced to address the issue of getting a new constitution of the people instead of continuing this deceitful system till 2023 when a new government will come in and most probably become a new monster. Nigeria needs to change its constitution now more than never and unless these political elites in their Mount Olympus of power are made to realize this through the citizens massive display of discontent, the powers that control Nigeria would be forced to rethink and make Nigeria a country where we can all sit and develop instead of the intellectual elites looking for opportunities abroad. |
Education budget for Lagos alone is #143 Billion! |
teadrake:Same way he ordered them to stop collecting money from motorists and there was nothing to show that anyone has issued a directive. Everyone is his own boss. Modified: I don't think there is a better time to demand good governance in Nigeria other than now. Whatever is happening to hierarchy of command in Nigeria's central administrative system remains confusing. How do we expect a developing nation to get serious when issues like these are trending and some citizens are still okay with it? |
mrkings84:Remove the 'lecturer' you added. I'm close to so many of them and I knew how many of our professors' kids were in my set before graduating few years ago. Lecturers are not earning big to be honest and guess what? They have some of the most busiest schedule you can ever imagine. Always working like horses. |
And this man thinks Lagos economy will be where it presently is in the next 20 years or what does he mean saying "bigger than Lagos" When politicians make assertions like this, just know they're lying. Lagos didn't get here in 20 years and if Anambra will really be like Lagos in a short while, then it should prepare for more influx of people, more industries and opportunities to bring people in, favorable conditions to non-indegenes. But he talked as if a cargo airport and seaport is all that's needed to make an economy grow. |
oro rirun....hunger should kee people before your birthday abi? Are you distributing these from your pockets? Ika people! |
Things must change! The earlier these people at the top know this, the better for them. Those looting the country are not all known. Some of them are faceless thieves like this couple. Those faceless thieves will go only to stand against any form of reform that may change the status quo. Some of them are on Nairaland, Twitter and every other platform. Once you see them standing against the reformation of Nigeria, know that they are the faceless rogues we are talking about. Enough of wastage Enough of injustice Enough of bad governance Nigerians are humans too. |
Was with a former school colleague at a wedding reception yesterday and when he peeped at what I was doing on the phone and saw Nairaland, he said "you've not stopped visiting this website and I told him "I'm confident to admit my addiction". Nairaland has helped in building my knowledge in many fields. Forget all the ethnic jingoists and other pessimistic groups, Nairaland is just great. |
The more we think we know, the more we find out we don't know. But then, how do we find out things deliberately hidden by the powers that be, both in the past and now? Humans except they belong to the powerful class are pawns to be played both by the actors of history and the writers of history itself. |
Commenters, let's face our lives instead jare...we're not lazy, jobless Nigerian youths who have not future nor plans but would rather spend time discussing celebrities who don't even have an inkling of your existence. |
Nigeria has had a higher number of achievers in various fields than we'll ever have scammers. But look at the way those comments were saying "Nigerian this, Nigerian that". Still, you'll have some people come here to tell us it's a crab mentality to pull down a scammer. Just imagine Elon Musk prohibited from entering the U.S because of scammers from South-Africa. This is the evil frauds do to sincere Nigerians aiming to achieve great things in the U.S and other developed countries. |
itsme01:I don't support inefficiency. In fact, I was always looking forward to the next project of the State's Executive Council during Ajimobi's time because I know him to be a talk and do person. However, there's a level I can go in defending him. I know a little about his personal life though I agree with most of his policies. The truth will always win no matter what but the state should be defended first. |
itsme01:Whatever it is he should be called isn't my problem except if it'd change Nigeria into the vision the world had for it 60 years ago. It's not right to crucify a proven innocent man but at the same time, it's only wise to display knowledge with acknowledged limitations. We only react to the info the media provides, how much of what really goes on do we have info about. Why then should we keep spending time defending them given our limited knowledge? |
