Jeezuzpick:The church is certainly lying, which I believe is for PR. With the amount of damage done to the school an, it's proximity to the disaster, there's no way all the kids will be safe. |
ahnie:You have said it all. I would never understand an adult's fascination with trivial things as birthdays. I have never celebrated one because I find it irrelevant. Everyone I've dated also knows I'm totally indifferent about these things. I understand that choices differ, but is OP willing to sacrifice the peace in her marriage on the altar of birthdays? I would understand if she complained about lack of support, appreciation or acknowledgement from her husband. But birthdays? I would never understand. |
MelesZenawi: This is hilarious |
I have never told my parents "I love them", even though I love them to hell and back. I also have never told my older siblings that too, unlike my younger ones who i have told that at different occasions. |
StreetFight:Did this comment of yours make you happy? |
valarmorghulis:Hi, I hope nothing happened to the kids at Bethlehem school. The ceiling at SS Michael Catholic church was razed. |
I always thought Alex is super gorgeous. The height, lips, skin tone, physique. |
Gforce2019:Stop deceiving the uninformed. |
Jayoficial:It isn't. I wonder why he didn't snap the green fields between faculty and Blocks of Flat. The school has very beautiful scenery, but lacks in infrastructure |
Farooq is one hell of a smart man. Very intelligently analysed submission. |
franchasng:The gift that keeps giving. This is sad. |
Mariangeles:You'd notice i mentioned people who I believed are sensible enough to have a civil conversation in my OP. For obvious reasons, you're not one of them. Could you please run along now? |
Keemsleek005:These things happen. They happen a lot too. Any man who sleeps with prostitutes is gone and may never stop. |
Hmmmm...OP had some good points here and there but majority were words in the dark...you never had such experience, simple. You know what they say about being more knowledgeable about the comforts of shoes if well tried?Oge, you do not know my story. I'm actually speaking from a place of personal first hand experience. I too lived with an aunt and if i told you tge number of years, your mind will be boggled. Yes. But she was a typical Nigerian mother who would never spare the rod. The aunty had kids in the house but still managed to have a maggot filled kitchen, yet she took it upon herself to teach the new entrant how to clean. That's the basis of everything else, why didnt she teach her own kids this before the new girl arrived?I'm sure you know that the OP was being hyperbolic when she talked about the maggots perhaps to add credibility to the story. Heck, That's the family kitchen. They certainly don't cook in a kitchen filled with maggots. I maintain that no woman will treat a help exactly same way they treat their own kids. This may not amount to maltreatment, but their is always a difference. |
franchasng:Maybe, the aunt is a mischievous person, we do not know as there is no evidence pointing to that. For Nigerian women being bad, I honestly do not know but I was surprised that a host of females here were sympathizing with the girl. But You know that there is always a difference between our online and offline persona. |
PrimadonnaO:It will be nice if we stay on course. That said, I my point was that my mom meted out punishments to helps same way she did to us her kids. She never went easy on us. But for a stranger who doesn't know how my household worked, they would think my mom was strict on the help, simply because she isn't her own child. I thought this was clear in my OP. The girl in the initial story, yes she obviously lacked tact for refusing to clean the house when she was asked. But if we have to be objective here, would it have been so hard for them to treat her like a guest on the first day?Except that she isnt a guest, she is family. When I was younger, my mom made it a rule thatdirty plates don't stay in the sink overnight. It doesn't matter if you've been lifting elephants all day. The plates in the sink must be washed. Also, why should they treat her in some special way on her "first day"? So that her narrative will be "when I came newly, they were so nice to me, all of a sudden they changed". No? If her refusal to clean on day one was what set the tone for her maltreatment, then her aunt who's a pastor's wife is such an unforgiving personFirst impression is everything, even in the workplace and can set the tone for a relationship. The children of the house will always have more privileges than the non-biological children, but it doesn't have to spell ill treatment for those kidsAt least, we agree on this So yes, even if kids aren't your biological children, an inability to love them and treat them with kindness and consideration is wickedness. It's not a natural phenomenon that should be sucked up.I'd like to think you construed my OP perfectly. Cheers |
Yesterday I read a post on FP about a girl who went to live with the aunt because things were difficult at home. https://www.nairaland.com/5730436/living-aunt-pastors-wife-hell It was a very interesting thread and while perusing the thread and seeing all the people especially women sympathizing with the lady, I couldn't help but keep wondering if all the tales we read on the internet about women and madams meting out inhumane treatments to their househelps were all fictitious or if these women and their accomplices are not on nairaland. On the post in question, the girl made it clear that when she came in, the whole house was a mess and her aunt asked her to clean to which she vehemently refused, in her own words " I told her I can't do them". Now I ask, if that OP had gone to visit her grandparents and she was told to clean the house, would she have declined? If she met her own father's house a mess, would she decline cleaning It? I doubt. The fact that the aunt has a grownup daughter is inconsequential here after all the OP wasn't the one cleaning the house prior to her visit. What if the OP was not asked to clean the house, same house that will shelter her for a long time, would it not be a wise move to clean the house without being told? Again, the fact that she just came, is inconsequential. She probably went there with the mindset of "I know I'll be maltreated, but I won't tolerate shìt, so I have to show them straightaway that I'm no pushover". We are also ignoring the little manner of manner of approach and first impressions. You could ruin a beautiful prospect from the beginning. It would have been a masterstroke for the OP to clean that house out of her own volition or do it humbly when she was told or simply asked for the cleaning to be deferred till the next day. This singular act would have set the pace for a more conducive stay, but no she already had the mindset that she would not get "mummy and daddy treatment". In all honesty, I thought the OP to be rude and entitled. I could be wrong, but that's what I thought. Now, my mom is a teacher, the old school type with over 25yrs experience and it would be an understatement to call her strict. My mom could starve you for a whole day if you threw away food, she does not tolerate the slightest of nonsenses. Growing up, we had househelps and my mom treated them same way. On the outside, you would think she handles them differently, but no. At a point, my dad stopped bringing maids, as he said it's better for my mom to tackle us in a particular way than another person's child. On the internet, we all claim to be humanitarians, human rights activists, crime fighters, child right activists and all that, but most importantly, we are all human being open to all sorts of vices and tendencies. I make bold to say that no one would treat their help same way they treat their own children. It doesn't mean they are mistreating the help, it just means that there are certain privileges open to their kids which the help may not enjoy. Your kids attend a 200k per term school, the help attends a 100k per term school. All are good schools, but ... I had a neighbour who was childless for 11 yrs, eventually they had to adopt a 2yr old child. The child was their crown, the wife could take a bullet for her. After some years, they had their own child. That moment, the wife remembered that the other kid was adopted. Then everything changed. My point, do not go to someone's house and expect to be treated like their own child or family. Why? Because you're not their child or family. There are so many privileges you may not enjoy. It is what it is. This fact means that you have to put in the extra yards and also understand that the children of your host may get away with certain things, but you can't. There is no justification for mistreating someone, absolutely none, so anyone who wants to argue must stay on course. |

google1:That's their culture. They are always set up like that even against weaker teams. |
XhosaNostra:Yea you're right. Trey Songz is pretty but I somehow don't find him attractive, Justin B is pretty too. I pr3fer ASAP Rocky type of cute anytime. The guy is fine as hell. |
Sweetpink:And who are you again? |
AmazonHippolyta:No offense meant, but im wondering why do y'all post a screenshot of other people's opinion as if it's some sort of authority? Why not post your own well thought out view instead of someone else's? Do you scour the internet looking for posts that align with your views, then screenshot and post? SMH |
donbachi:What if one of the steps to fulfilling her divinely willed "destiny" was to get pregnant at her teenage years? What if this pregnancy was part of the apparatus in the grand scheme of things? You thought of that? |
DBestDoc:MrBrownjay1 this right here is my point. If the OP came from a family like mine where familial bond is highly cherished, and pulled such stunt, everyone will blank her and her house till she borrows some sense. |
LilMissFavvy:OP made it clear that his wife's reluctance is because she feels inferior to her co-wife given the co-wifes parentage and background. It isn't a case of her being "comfortable" in Nigeria. Heck, she would pack her bags in a jiffy if the husband proposed another country or if they were to put up at another relative's in the UK. Again, he didn't say they're living a good life. In fact he said he is frustrated and believes that his family will have a better life in the UK. You kept on happing on him "making enough money" when he already made it clear that he is already working multiple jobs, yet there isn't a lot to show for it. My advice would be for the OP to go alone and stay formats long as it requires him to "make enough money", then he can come get his wife. |
LilMissFavvy:I would never understand why women on here make this statement repeatedly. It's quite nauseating. Pray tell, what exactly does "make enough money" mean to you? What are the practical steps of making "enough money"? Perhaps you don't know how difficult it is settling into a new country, culture, economy, surroundings. It's one hell of a daunting experience. Somehow, it's the man's fault that the wife doesn't get along with her sister-in-law or doesn't want to "start somewhere". |
SmellingAnus:There's absolutely nothing wrong with him desiring her. For all intents and purposes, she is single. OP did not kill his friend, neither did he sleep with the friends wife when he was alive. It's 4yrs already and well time for her to move on with any one she may choose. People marry their late brother's wives, how much more. |
GraGra247:Send her home for doing what exactly? Has she done anything untoward? Now you think she is a "senseless idiòt", how rich of you. I hope you aren't one of those advising men on this site to never forget that their wives are not blood relatives. Perhaps OP's wife took the advise and realised that the husband isn't her blood relative, but the brother is, hence the preferential treatment. Prior to the visit of his brother-in-law, OP had no serious qualms with his wife's behaviour (at least he didn't create a thread for it) but now he is aggrieved because the brother-in-law is being treated with privilege, he even feels he is in competition with the BIL for the wife's affection. OP simply tell your wife what you want and how you want to be treated and make sure not to compare your situation with that of your BIL. |
made2fit:"Thank you for understanding" simply because he aligned with your thoughts or simply echoed your sentiments. Clearly, you have an agenda and there is am underlying reason you didn't want to tell your siblings about your project. It isn't necessarily a privacy thing, there is a determining factor. Perhaps it's in your head, perhaps too it's a case of you trying to "show them" or you feel you're in some sort of competition with them. For your siblings to be unhappy about your decision to be secretive means that they share information about their lives with you too - just as familyhood would dictate, unless your family is dysfunctional. Imagine you calling your siblings "acidic and bitter" because they were unhappy with your actions. I and my siblings have a whatsapp group where we discuss problems we encounter or just gist ourselves about the most random stuffs and we also celebrate each other's little successes ...no matter how little. When I have good news, my family are the first people I share with, not even my partner, but here you are not wanting even your mom to know about your newest acquisition, just because of your siblings. Now you're hurting that they don't visit your house, why would they seeing that you do not want them in your life. If I were your sibling, I probably won't step foot in your house as you seem too conceited. |
OP brace yourself. A lot of people will elect to guilt-trip you for choosing to abstain till after your wedding forgetting that it's a life filled with choices and you have made yours. Even the proponents of "virgin or nothing" will join in the hypocrisy. The "pain" in first time sex is more psychological than physical. Actually it isn't supposed to hurt though it does for some people. You have to take it slow, calm her down, use a lot of lubricants and exercise a whole lot of patience, while we hope that there is no underlying medical comdition.Trust me, it can be frustrating and you may end up nutting before you gain entrance seeing that you're green. That said, I'm curious as to how you told your parents-in-law about your inability to have sex with your wife. Did you say it in English or in your local dialect? Quite strange. |
Your family isn't atypical. These things happen in your average Nigerian homes especially in this age and time where the internet has inculcated in us the belief that you don't owe your parents anything, you are not your parents pension plan, your child must leave home when they turn 18, you do not owe your siblings anything (even emotional support) and all other nonsense I see on this site on a daily, although I must admit that the propagators of this school of thought do not live it, but just want to sound woke. Gradually, these erroneous beilefs have weakened the base of familyhood. People now see their family members as lifelong roommates whom they can easily cut ties with when they "relocate". They only call upon these "roommates" when there is a reason (in your case, at times of need) or congregate when only it's inevitable. Toxic feminism (the type you see on nairaland) has played a huge role too whereby the patriarch is gradually losing his position of preeminence in the family. Forgetting that the role of such patriarch goes far beyond providing and protecting but acting as a symbol of unity. At your age, I'm afraid the harm has already been done. It's an uphill task trying to bring together adults who have been wired by design to steer clear of one another's life. This may be an unpopular opimion, but the Only thing that can make you and your siblings take solace in one another's arms again is the demise of a loved one |
The lies here will be groundbreaking. Especially from guys who will claim they were introduced to female cousins who later started crushing on them. |
