Afam I fear that arms matter might turn to another thing entirely, though after some time things will normalize but b/4 then so many people would have been carelessly killed. Have you thought of those boys that run out looking for stones or stick to carry during fights. We will just be hearing gun shots. Men I think give or take it is dicey. Or perhaps if a robber knows that I have a gun he will think twice before coming to my house.

A retired army colonel, who in his own words is not tired, engaged a band o f robbers who foolishly told him that, they were coming to his house. In the process two of the robbers were killed and one injured. The colonel said they cannot always have their way.

Admin thanks for the adjustment.
On the issue at hand, the only way out is a bold step towards reorganization of NPF. Not adding N10 to their salary no, make the job attractive to intelligent Nigerians, not drop outs who have nthing at stake. Let those who have their name to protect see reasons to join police. As I once stated; Nigerian youths will do every thing to join Scotland Yard but not NPF. The reason is simple package, motivation, insurance name it.

Robbers And Police As Accomplices

Quoted from http://www.thenewsng.com/modules/zmagazine/article.php?articleid=20897

The spate of robbery operations in the Lagos metropolis is alarming and seems to be sending wrong signals that police are helpless in combating the menace.
,
The robberies have been attributed in part to the alleged collaboration between some bad eggs in the police force and some of the robbers. This was the allegation of a former Inspector General of Police.

Also, a robbery suspect who was arrested recently, corroborated this allegation by saying policemen connive with robbers.

The suspect confessed to the policemen at Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) at Adeniji-Adele that police officers often connived with them to rob.The suspect, Sunday a.k.a Eje-oto, 26, of no fixed address is the leader of a 10 man-gang who rob in Lagos, Ogun and Ibadan with sophisticated weapons.

He had been arrested and detained several times but later released.

Some of his accomplices, known as Settle, Chicken, Yellow, he said, were set ablaze by a mob when they were caught at the scene of a robbery.
In his confessional statement to the police, Eje-oto disclosed:

“I can’t be killed by bullets because it won’t penetrate. I just won’t stop robbery because it runs in my blood. I blame the whole thing on my mother. She never saw anything wrong in whatever I did because she is fully in support of me, whenever I go out to rob and come back with my loot.

“Policemen often gave us information on where to go and when the policemen are on our trail. They also share in our loot. I am not bothered about this arrest because I know too well that I will soon be let of the hook.

“I was arrested by the police based on the information given to the police by some informants.
PoliticsIs Police Still Our Friend? by Truequest(op): 3:57pm On Nov 29, 2007
Police reforms; What manner of reform does Nigerian police need? I recall with nostalgia, what I was taught in Social studies class as a primary 3 kid. My teacher told me that POLICE IS MY FRIEND, he also said that when I cannot find my way I should approach a policeman and ask for direction. I was told to look for an available police station for shelter if I happen to be stranded. I was made to believe that no crime happens whenever a police officer is around. I pity you if you follow that today.

I also remember the police inspector that use to visit my dad in the 80's. He is so respected. With his khaki trouser and his long staff, he commands the respect of all. My dad also share in the honour as those around see him as close to 'god'. Woe betide you today, if people see you with policemen often.

I should tell you, I practised what my teacher taught me and found them so. I go to them for almost any thing as a child, when I want to cross roads I go to them later as an adventurous teteenager went to them to ask for directions, on my way to the north. In the early 90's here I remember revealing to a police man how much cash I had on me in a strange place. Today, as I wonder what has become of this profession, some ideas came to my mind.

To reform the police, what do we need do? It is not enough to dish out instructions, it has to start with how much a policeman is paid. I know they annouced an increase recently but that is not what I mean or how much is 15% of 12k + 12k. It will still be one and the same. The police job must be made attractive to all. Or why is it that youths who never thought of being a Nigerian Police officers, but, jump at the slightest oppuopportunityjoin the Scotland yard. Why do we all look for mobile, ChevChevron Shell jobs, Niger-Delta crisis not withstanding. If the best of Nigerian youths can be made to desire the police job by overhauling their entire package, that will be the beginning of the reform. Let the least paid officer take home be 60k, so that, they can plan with their salary, put a good insurance package in place, for injury and death.

Let professional with good track record be appointed, to head the force, who will in turn set up some monitors, to screesecretlysee the action of the officers on the field. Let's see if the bad eggs will not be easily fished out.

To Afam that was a nice adaptation, though I think the writer was having fun writing those things. They are real and funny also. But Afam it seems you have so many enemies in the forum.

To Bankole, I honestly do not doubt that some of the folks out there make six figures, but we must agree that it is a lot of money. Moreso, those views on affluent Nigerians are real oooooooo! DON'T FORGET THAT THE WRITTER SAID HE IS STILL AT LOST ON HOW THEY MAKE IT.

Mamajama:
FOUR people, including two policemen, were in the early hours of Thursday killed and several others injured in a foiled bank robbery attack around Fagba bus stop in Iju area of Agege in Lagos State.

In Osun State, at least one policeman was killed while two others were injured as robbers operated in two locations.

The two policemen that died in Lagos, an Inspector and a Corporal, were killed by a 20-man gang of heavily armed robbers who stormed a branch of an old generation bank in the area.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the robbers had, in the early hours of the day, stormed the bank and the anti-robbery police squads from several formations in the state gave them a stiff opposition.

http://www.tribune.com.ng/23112007/news/news3.html
Mamajama,
I honestly respect Tribune but What I don't know now is their source, take this as an eye wittness account, The robbers were not 20 but 8. They spent 30mins, there was no opposition any where, untill after they had gone. Infact, some of them followed thier car on foot to some distance. They succeded, robbers that entered the bank shot the manager did not succeed? What of the cash on the counter and the cash with their customers? I beg police should spare us those good stories.

At last a meeting point for Bankole and Afam, I've been enjoying your exchange of Ideas. The truth is that we have the human resources but the big question is the political will. Someone to steer the ship of this nation in the right direction. One can only hope it happens!
SportsLesson From The English Team For Eagles by Truequest(op): 6:02pm On Nov 23, 2007
I really thought I was not going to post a thread today but as I pondered over what became of the English's hope of going for the Euro 2008. I cannot but think of our own super eagles, to say that there are no longer minos in would soccer will be to overstate the obvious. Just this week Benin Rep. took a two goals lead against Ghana right there in Accra, before they rallied back to beat them 4-2. This is a wake up call for players, a wake up call for coaches and a wake up call for you sports fan to know that you cannot always have it. Defeat is also part of the game. Stop calling English players names, let their fall remind you that your own eagles could fall any day. This game could be currel at times!

Teamtalk reported this morning that Real Mardrid has joined Milan in a race to sign unsettled Chelsea of England ace Didier Drogba, this appear to be confirming that, the Ivorian may not be part of Avram Grant's men in the coming season. My warning is that he should remember that Scheve was the best in Italy when he came to Chelsea, but ever since he has not been himself.

PoliticsBank Robbery In Lagos, About 75mins Ago by Truequest(op): 11:25am On Nov 22, 2007
The job of a journalist I should say is a very difficult one, filing among soldiers in the battle front and even venturing into the enemy camp to scoop stories for hungry readers like you, yes you to read. This can best describe my experience when I heard that there was a robbery going on at FAGBA near Ogba/Agege (depending on which one you are familiar with) in Ijaiye LGA, Lagos. This happened between 9.40am and 10.15am, the target was Union Bank of Nigeria PLC. The robbery which went on unhindered as usual, though a two or three police stations are just a sound distance away from the scene of the crime. Gun shots were fired indiscriminately leaving all and sundry with their hearts in their mouth, the whole area was like a war zone. It left three people dead that I can confirm; one of the bank guards, a motor mechanic close to the bank was killed and another little boy at Fagba junction. The Bank manager was also shot with several others but I can't confirm their condition. On a lighter note 15mins after the robbery an old vehicles exhaust pipe made some noise every body went for their lives.  As I was about leaving the place a police armoured tanker was driving towards the scene, trust Nigerians, they were booed.

PoliticsMurder And Attempted Murder: Which Is Worst by Truequest(op): 5:18pm On Nov 21, 2007
This Bamayi, Al'mustapha endless trials gets at me at times, Can someone tell me which is greater attempted murder and murder which is more grievious. A serving Attorney General was killed in his home, some real suspects were arrested, before you say Jack Robbinson he was released and rewarded with a high post in the land. Now on the other hand this group were accused of sending people to kill someone and they did not succeed, they have now been in detention for 8yrs going to 9. I beg let' stop this mess. That trial should end, Double standard is our worst problem. No one should kill and none should even attempt it but let all punishment be commensurate to offence committed. The son of man has said his Mind.

SportsMan United's Bid For Uche! by Truequest(op): 4:28pm On Nov 19, 2007
I got this report from a local media that Manchester United want to pay Gatafe 10 million pounds plus Luis Saha for Ikechukwu Uche. But my worry is this: Alex Ferguson in recent weeks have not hidden his dislike of the influx of foriegn players to the premiership. He was quoted as voicing his support for the proposed quota, which is aimed at limiting the nos of foriegn players. For an up and coming player like Uche I'm a bit skeptical of his chances in Man U. Don't get me wrong I'm not an opponent, as I don't neccesarily support any club in the premiership. I can best be described as an admirer. But as a Nigerian do you think it is safe for him? Don't you think he should consider Barca or remain where he is. That's my submission Period.
PoliticsMy Heart Goes Out For Yar'adua by Truequest(op): 8:37pm On Nov 16, 2007
As the wind blowing from the Election tribunals continues to blow like whirlwind combined with the fury of Harmattan. From Anambra to Kogi, Kogi to Kebbi, Kebbi to Adamawa, only God knows the next stop. My heart goes out for president Yar' Adua. I think he has taken some positive steps in righting some wrongs of the past government (just hoping he doesn't change). But all these might not matter any longer, if the evidences that are presented before Election tribunal finally nails him. This is indeed the burden of illegitimacy or evil carry over.

But this is were we live, but Baba told reporters that Nafdac boss is only sulking because as the father he refused her request for a ministerial appointment. I tell you people can never cease to amaze me in this nation. Thank God sha at least somebody is asking him some questions, though I strongly feel that more should be done to keep baba at home that Ibadan may know peace.
SportsMORINHO'S SUCCESS AT CHELSEA AND ABRAHAMOVICH MILLIONS! by Truequest(op): 11:08am On Nov 16, 2007
I was an admirer of Jose and Chelsea for what he seemingly achieved with the club. But following his sack and appointment of Avram Grant who was unknown until his Chelsea job, he was even lacking necessary certifications to function at that level, yet he has done relatively well ever since. He had many problems on assumption with the players accepting him but he has succeeded so far.
In view of this I think Chelsea success has a lot to do with the bank account of the Russian, which was used to get the best players available who are in turn doing the job.
Share your thot for or against.
