I just want to tell a short story this morning, a real story actually.....
There was a couple in my village who were married for a long time, unfortunately, the marriage produced no child well into their old age. And then one day it happened, the wife suddenly took in and subsequently gave birth to what Nigerians call a bouncing baby boy.

Great news for the couple and everyone. The child was much loved by the parents and everyone in my village, and quickly he became a favorite of everyone in the village and was showered with love as an only child. He was his father’s shadow, anywhere you saw the father, you saw him. They were totally inseparable. They went everywhere together, even to the farm, since the father was a farmer.

One day, the mother (who didn’t always go to farm with them) decided to pay the father and son a surprise visit. When she got there, the sight she saw shocked her and she passed immediately. She needed to be told what happened afterwards. What did she see? Well, on getting to the farm, she saw her beloved child tied like a goat to a stake ready to be butchered, with her husband holding a cutlass in his hand ready and about to strike the child a deadly blow! This was an abomination! Everybody in the village riled,cursed and condemned the man. But when a wise elderly man asked him why did you want to take your only son’s life, He said in controlled, assured and almost divine voice “BECAUSE GOD TOLD ME TO SACRIFICE MY ONLY SON” Right there everyone proclaimed him mad and thus delivered him a befitting jungle justice.

What is your view on this? I bet you will say serves him right, he is an idiot, he is deranged, delusional, idiotic and ingrate. But if you are a monotheist, you have absolutely no right to condemn the man, because this is precisely what the originator of your religions did. Big brother commanded someone to kill his son to prove his faith and the person obeyed. How moral is it for all-knowing big brother to put someone to test, let alone that of killing his only son?

If anyone tells me do what all monotheist are told to do, and admire the man who wanted to gut his child because big brother told him to so do to prove his faith, I will tell the person hell no! f*”k you! I am a christian and I know a pastor who used to be a bank branch manager in Ibadan. Suddenly he said He felt led to go to a "provincial area" where NEPA hadn't even got to and minister as a pastor there. Apparently they were very ritualistic etc. Guy left his official and personal cars, his bodija duplex and went into the bush with his family. THAT IS A FATHER in the context you speak of. Its 8 years and now he's doing fine. When I heard about him, I decided my resources would be available to him and till date, they are. His family lacks nothing because more people have come to know of his ways and i have seen him recieve a half million at a time. Funnily, I recently heard he got a vehicle from an admirer but sold it and gave the proceeds towards building a school laboratory for the people he lives with. The guy who gave him the car then bought another immediately which we together compelled him to keep. Would you by any chance imagine I am speaking of this type of pastor above?

Secondly, do you really need 3 SUVs, a private jet, bi-annual family holidays in the bahamas, etc in the midst of the deprivation that is Nigeria's lot? You Jesoul, may have been away for too long - those of us here see the poverty in the populace and the anger in the youths. I was born in the North and they are angry: they have nothing to live for (as far as they are concerned and the proof of that is in how much they value life) plus we know that majority of our youth can perform only menial labor. They are so poor that they cannot afford to learn a trade like carpentry or masonry. I challenge anyone to show me where such exist as the standard today. These people can be helped to learn a trade or be schooled rather than being idle and thus providing a workshop for satan. You drive past and feel the malevolence.

I sincerely cannot understand how comfortable people can live in the midst of so much resentment which could so easily be helped by a fraction of what goes into cars for our "big-men". I left the north and swore never to go back because I was always scared.

Maybe I over-react when I post like this but try to look past the facade and ask; do we really need this level of luxury? To build schools too expensive for our congregation and then we do not even send our own children there but to foreign schools? Look at the example I gave above of a pastor and compare to what obtains.

Please explain how you can equate these atrocities and horrendously immoral crimes against humanity with the loving, merciful, forgiving, and omniscient god that you worship?

1. God drowns the whole earth.
In Genesis 7:21-23, God drowns the entire population of the earth: men, women, children, fetuses, and perhaps unicorns. Only a single family survives. In Matthew 24:37-42, gentle Jesus approves of this genocide and plans to repeat it when he returns.

2. God kills half a million people.
In 2 Chronicles 13:15-18, God helps the men of Judah kill 500,000 of their fellow Israelites.

3. God slaughters all Egyptian firstborn.
In Exodus 12:29, God the baby-killer slaughters all Egyptian firstborn children and cattle because their king was stubborn.

4. God kills 14,000 people for complaining that God keeps killing them.
In Numbers 16:41-49, the Israelites complain that God is killing too many of them. So, God sends a plague that kills 14,000 more of them.

5. Genocide after genocide after genocide.
In Joshua 6:20-21, God helps the Israelites destroy Jericho, killing “men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.” In Deuteronomy 2:32-35, God has the Israelites kill everyone in Heshbon, including children. 9. God burns two cities to death.

10. God has 42 children mauled by bears.

17. God incinerates 51 men to make a point.
In 2 Kings 1:9-10, Elijah gets God to burn 51 men with fire from heaven to prove he is God.

18. God kills a man for not impregnating his brother’s widow.
In Genesis 38:9-10, God kills a man for refusing to impregnate his brother’s widow.

19. God threatens forced cannibalism.
In Leviticus 26:27-29 and Jeremiah 19:9, God threatens to punish the Israelites by making them eat their own children.

20. The coming slaughter.
According to Revelation 9:7-19, God’s got more evil coming. God will make horse-like locusts with human heads and scorpion tails, who torture people for 5 months. Then some angels will kill a third of the earth’s population. If he came today, that would be 2 billion people.

Now, Christians have spent thousands of years coming up with excuses for a loving god that would allow or create such evil. In fact, they’ve come up with 12 basic responses, which are the subject of The Tale of the Twelve Officers.
