Just as the code description, its a SMALL LEAK. Some fee questions for you. 1. Do you perceived any fuel vapour odours in the car (the cabin)? 2. Last time you worked on the fuel pump location, did you properly seal the O ring that attached to the fuel pump assembly, as in the fig below I have for this highlander? 3. As regards replacing the fuel pump and fuel cap cover, what else have you done.? 4. Can you give a historical background to the precursor of this problem? Was it after the fuel pump was worked upon, or has any job being done recently on the intake manifold area at the engine? So back to the OPs dilemma. My take is that your charcoal canister, which is part of the evaporative emissions system, maybe leaking already (its a kind of plastic assembly, with bunch of charcoals in it to helped in the purification of fuel vapours. So if that plastic has even a micro crack, the ECU on your car would register this as a fault, after running vacuum tests on the canister, via the purge valves. What you should do: 1. Check the canister, if its something that is easily accessible by you. On some vehicles, its under the rear side of the car, just behind the driver side. Although checking for a micro crack, would be a herculean tasks for you. If it checks fine, then your next step should be, 2. Checking all the plumbing from that canister, fright to the intake manifold. One or all of the pipes may have ruptured. 3. As long as you don't perceive any fuel vapours, then, I'd suggests you forget about this code. It does not affect the performance of the car. Note: If this were to be in advanced societies where emissions tests are the norm, your car wouldn't pass any of those tests. But you well know that Nigeria isn't interested in the environment right. Priority tight now, has always being economy. I hope this small piece, would give you some leeway in solving this issue. Regards, Joseph (08066643532:call/WhatsApp) DW Nig Ltd Isolo, Lagos |
Accord is cheaper. Less fuel use. Bora in same category, but costs of parts, I don't know. Are you comfortable with the ball joint problems you might be encountering on the Honda? If no, then go for the VW. |
@Flootintin. 1. Could be that there's a problem somewhere with installation of the gasket, or the top cylinder had already gotten warped(bent), and so on sections of the surface that is to provide proper sealing from coolants entering isn't doing it's work. 2. Did you take the heads to a machinist to check for warped surfaces before installing or? 3. Those are the reasons you could be experiencing what is happening now. 4. So the above situation does not amount to a KNOCKED situation. Except if for instance the overheating was so severe that it caused the engine to seize! Hope this helps. Regards, Joseph |
Perfectly know about that |
I now realised that the government that be on NL, deliberately deletes peoples threads/comments they don't feel comfortable with. I just did a write up on rebuilding a 2010 Rav4(V6) and posted midnight. It appeared the moderator was sleeping at the time. Immediately he woke up, the thread has being deleted. |
@obekediamondfuto. What has my moniker got to do with this thread now? Quoting you here "I'm terribly disappointed.... Trygo even u too? Wow.... I guess I need to work on my definition of low.... Maybe it's still a Lil bit too high" |
Amdman. A friend just referred me to your thread. This is really fantastic a thread, and it has really gone ballistic. Now coming to the issue of competition, I think we as a country, still needs some tutoring as regards what exactly competition is. Some folks over here, are usually threatened when someone different from their cliques, come over with a better way of doing business. They for instance, start by spewing venomous venoms on one's thread, without offering an alternative. If they discovered you're not fazed by their attacks, what they do next is to try as much as possible to limit or delete your threads, to block the public from seeing them. I'm happy you're just not bothered by their attacks. Keep up the good works dude. You rock! Regards, Joseph DW Nig Ltd Isolo, Lagos |
I like this thread.
Cosplay! You must be an investigative journalist.
You're really doing a great job. |
On vehicles with timing chain setups, timing chains tend to make terrible noises as the one in this short video clips. Its like a diesel engine rattling (noise). Whilst on belts, they either jump some tooth, or totally fail. Chains, and even timing belts, are items that if replacement schedules are not followed, could cause severe engine damage. Always make it a matter of right to replaced timing chains, during every rebuild. Replacing are more tasking than belts. PS: Video is for the 4Runner 2005 recently rebuilt. Here's the link to the video I did on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTUSC8vklNo Regards, Joseph (08066643532) DW Nig Ltd Isolo, Lagos |
@shotuns. It depends on the degree of KNOCKED you mean here. Can you provide more info pls? There are a lot of scenarios. 1.Knocked could mean a seized engine (that which can't be turned by hand or otherwise) 2. One or all of the crankshaft/camshaft bearings may have scoured and failed in the process 3. Piston rings could have snapped and .... There are rebuild, that would only require you replaced the engine block, etc. You got to weigh on the costs of doing that, with a rebuild. I'd be sharing another article I have on a RAV4 2010 V6(2gr) we did rebuild some few days ago. That rav4, was referred to us from another shop of a colleague with a lot of issues that I'd create a thread for it. I JUST HOPED THAT THREAD WOULD NOT BE DELETED AGAIN TOO. |
@ricki! Yes, we could do that job. @Bravolad. Valarinze has being a great dude here. In fact, I have tried posting an article of my experience on a Sienna transmission system I fixed some weeks back over here, for car owners to be able to have such info at their finger tips, before perhaps going ahead with ALWAYS THAT TRANSMISSION SYSTEM REPLACEMENT ALTERNATIVE. But immediately I posted that stuff, IT WAS IMMEDIATELY DELETED SEVERAL TIMES. PS: I have some other articles coming in some days time, and I'd want to use those as an example again to see how it's accepted on NL again. Thanks everyone! |
@Flottintin. Two bullets Jere you're pointing at me: 1. ...prone to overheating? 2. ...just replaced top cylinder? ¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶}}}}} 1. has the engine overheated before, to the state that it stalled, and you've to wait some minutes before adding water or coolants, as the case may be? Is the engine consuming engine so badly? 2. If the vehicle has only overheated leading to a desire to have the top gaskets replaced, then go ahead and replaced the gaskets once and for all. Providing answers to #1 above would go along way to helped me answer your questions. |
@Inception. No scouring on cylinder walls. pistons are not oversized or worn out. Piston rings only were, including the connecting rod bearings were "dangling". No signs of pittings on the replaced parts, to signify any overheating emanating from loss of oil on the metal surfaces. |
If the cash is there, y not?! As long as I would still have my horse power intact, like you'd have on a Tesla model S. |
The installed chains and auto tensioners
|
Had to replaced the timing chain secondary chains, and auto tensioners.
The primary chain was also replaced.
