I think I like your kind of critic here.

Would classify you as someone who makes people wanna be on their tows.

Its similar to what opposition parties do to a sitting government.

It would keep me more sharpened up.

@diportivo. You know what? If you know what you're doing, you don't just bother with some people whose on here, trying to smear me.

We are waiting for any of the allegations he's got, to be tabled here for discuss, or critique.

When one isn't sure of what their competencies are, that's when you exhibit such fears.

So, in the meantime, let's await him to return to the table with the necessary info.

Remember, this job isn't just ...facts and logical reasoning has to be applied.
Car TalkRe: Re: Disastrous Impacts Of Overheating by TRYGO(op): 10:14pm On Sep 14, 2017
@diportivo. Yes it has two.

Water doesn't enter from the back. Coolant circulates from the front, then to the rear.

1. You've got one at the front on the engine block. That kind of thermostat there is engrafted or mated to the upper radiator hose connection. So, if that thermostat is faulty, replace the entire connection there. The thermostat on that part of the engine. doesn't come off separately like the rear.

2. The second one is located at the rear ward end if the top cylinder, at the middle, as you can see in the picture of the one I posted.

It controls the cylinder head temperature. So, if its faulty, it is a hell removing it. You've got to remove the manifold system, to get access to it.
Remember, that's where the engine coolant temperature sensor, and the gauge are located.

Thanks for the study, though, and reading through.

Catch you later then.
Hope this answers your huhs.

Any more, would try answer them.

Car TalkRe: Re: Disastrous Impacts Of Overheating by TRYGO(op): 9:35pm On Sep 14, 2017
@Gazzuzz. Well, that's cool. But do bear in mind that its not just all clients that bear replacing an entire radiator system for a cracked plastic.

I present all options to the clients, including pros and cons.

You've got to weigh both the economics and safety involved in this.

As long as that can be fixed, I'd go ahead and do it.

What matters is:

1. Are there genuine adhesive silicon gums available?

2. Are there "die hard" heat resistant plastic tops available?

If the answers are yes, sure, I'd replaced that part than replacing an entire radiator system.

Car TalkRe: Disastrous Impacts Of Overheating by TRYGO(op): 8:43pm On Sep 14, 2017
INTRODUCTION
Just as knowledge can never be exhausted in the field, and ..., I would like to point out some other causes of overheating, that you probably never thought existed.

Now a days, radiators assemblies comes with external plastic cores, rather than aluminum wholly, as its being heralded in the '70s.

Basically, automakers do that for the cost reductions, and fuel economy that it provides.

But some salient problems that have come to be a key feature of these plastic cores are their ability to seep coolants through the radiator walls, because of the presence of;

1. HAIRLINE CRACKS.

These kind of cracks, are difficult to see with the naked eyes, in some instances, because of their nature.
Their accelerations on the structural integrity if the plastics, in which those radiator walls were made from.
Excess exposures to extreme heat rises, also impacts negatively on them.

SPOTTING A CRACKED RADIATOR?
*****You get to see coolant leaks around the vicinity of the radiator plastic walls(made of plastic), and sometimes, you might just noticed its kind wet around that(those) region.

2. HEATER CORE (HOSE/PIPE) RUPTURE

The heater core piping(plumbing), connects straight on the cylinder heads of some vehicles, while in others, it goes straight to the engine block.
It would behoove you to realised that the sole purpose of the heater core, is to provide warmth, in times of extreme cold weather.

This is how that system works:
As you turn on the to the red level (hot range)button, hot coolants circulating through the engines system, us routed through the heater core attached to the AC system to provide warn air to cushion in the effect of the cold.

Notice that the hot/warmth air comes from the hot engine.

Without the connections from the engine, there's no way warmth air could be transferred to the cabin of the car.

Here's the jinx: Cars fitted with heater cores, with age, have got their hoses/pipes fractured, and coolants just gushes out without ones knowledge.

3. NO2 Thermostat.
Some automakers have incorporated two thermostats on their engine design, to help with better fuel economy, and heat control.

For instance, the Nissan pathfinder displayed in the picture, was a 2000 model. It has got two thermostats: 1) one at the front engine block region, and 2) at the rear of the cylinder head. The one at the rear is always a nightmare for it to be removed though.

If this particular thermostat is faulty, the engine continues to overheat, no matter what remedies you've proffered.

4. WEAK VISCOUS FAN CLUTCH. These fans have got viscous fluids in the fan clutch, that controls the ON and OFF of the fans, when they work.

When the temperatures gradually rises to a certain threshold set up by the engine designers, this heat sensitive fluid in the clutch turns on the fan to cool the temperature down, and vice versa.

How do you test such fan?

Turn the fan blades with a finger, and notice the resistance against your finger.
If there's enough resistance, the fans OK. But if there isn't any, that fan needs to be replaced

Its better to replace such a fan with a new one. Used fans might problematic

So, the next time you've got a shortage of radiator coolants or some overheating problems, do make a duty to check the heater core tubing plumbing (hose itself), and the joints for leaks, or fracture.

They aren't expensive to replace.
For me, in tines if emergencies, I discontinue the heater core connections.

Expecting your comments, or criticisms.

Remember, this piece of writeup might spur some kind of debate in the comments section.

Keep them coming though.
But do expect me to defend my methodologies with some proves.

Car TalkHe Almost Killed That Camry Hybrid Ecvt by TRYGO(op):
INTRODUCTION
Hey, everyone! Its being a long time over here.
Terribly sorry for the long absence.
It's being due to some....., emmmm, hope you guys figure out what I'm trying to saying? But if you don't, its not important right now. What's important is that I'm (or we are back online).

From the heading, I'm not referring to someone trying to murder someone, but emmmm, its just....

Some of you might wonder what "eCVT" means, as seen in the heading above.

Well, eCVT means electronic continuous variable transmission.

Because of it's tremendous increased fuel economy, and reduced cost of production parts(internal gear mechanisms, such as the planetary, and in some cases, sun gears), almost all the major vehicle manufacturers, have in their design considerations, incorporated such a system in their hybrid or non hybrid vehicles.

Other advantages of such a transmission system has being the seamless gear selections; increased fuel economy, etc.

One of the things that could damaged an eCVT system, is the use of wrong transmission fluids.

So, WHAT TRANSMISSION FLUID SHOULD BE USED?

The specifications for transmission fluid for any transmission system, varies according to vehicle manufacturers.

Toyota, since we're dealing with a Toyota Camry, or any other hybrid vehicle made by Toyota, have specified the use of Toyota WS transmission fluids, for its hybrid vehicles.

Doing otherwise, would jeopardize the efficiency of the transmission system.

If you're in thought about the transmission fluid to use for your car, please always refer to your owners manual, or Google search it online, for specifications. Doing that, would save you the pains of paying over the nose, to have a transmission system repaired/replaced.

Transmission systems don't just go bad.
They are components that could stand the test of time.

If a transmission system develops some kind of fault, it could be any of the following:

1. Wrong fluid usage
2. Late replacement of old transmission fluid
3. Procedural errors during installations
4. Owner driveability problems

The first (1) one is the major cause of such failures, in both a conventional(petrol powered) and non conventional(hybrid) cars.

HOW DO YOU IDENTIFY A GENUINE WS FLUID

I'm not in any way affiliated to Toyota, or any of its dealership. But would do my best to point out some tale signs.

¶¶¶¶¶ These points may not hold true DLR some people though.
The important thing is the right fluid should be procured. ¶¶¶¶¶

** Original WS transmission fluid comes from the USA, or Japan. At least, the ones I have purchases and used.

The USA only sells those fluids in 1L cans.

**Look at the finishings on the container. Any ....on the designs, you know you're buying something that isn't original.

***Tempered covers. The 4L fluid, cones with a flat funnel like plastic, attached to its cork for ease of use as a funnel during refilling.
I'd that plastic is not there, do not buy it, no matter how cheap it might cost.

**I do not patronised other brands of "Toyota" branded, or alternative WS transmission fluids.

Most people do patronized them though, because of the low price involved.
But at the long run, the cost of repairs/replacement would definitely outweigh the initial benefits.

Isn't that what happens when we decide to get our cars fixed at a low price, and in the end, what we had budgeted for some projects in future, is spent on the same repairs/replacement?

HOW DO YOU KNOW THE TRANSMISSION FLUID IN TOUR HYBRID CAR MIGHT BE OUT OF SPECS?

There isn't a magic wand, in finding this out.
If you've got the facility, that can be done by getting a sample of the transmission fluid, and sending it to a laboratory for analysis.

Because of the cost of analysis, and all that involved, car owners are reluctant to embark on such a move.

The next one would be to always be observant, during driving.

***check for any DELAYED, OR SLUGGISH ENGAGEMENT***.

ARE SUCH TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS REPAIRABLE?

Yes, they are.
Since they do not have a lot of moving parts, their major components are just the two electric motors(MG1 and MG 2), responsible for starting, driving, and recharging the hybrid pack.

These components do burn out/wear out, if you wish, because of the excessive heat the motors generate during those cycles.

That the major reason, Toyota routes some of its radiator/inverter coolants to the transmission system.

Coolants(Long lasting) and the transmission fluids, acts as good heat conductors for the motors.

Using other coolants, might temporarily work, but the ability of the coolants used to dissipate heat from the electric motors, would have to be taken in to account.

CONCLUSION

Seamlessly driving your car, is some what cool.
But using the wrong transmission fluid on it, would definitely bring you the results you(and perhaps,), your pocket wouldn't like.
Patronised trusted brands, and ensure you "microscopically" look at what you're buying.

CASE STUDY

Vehicle type: Camry sedan

Model year: 08

Engine configuration: 4cylinder

Transmission type: eCVT(electronic continuous variable transmission).

Mileage: 178,000miles

COMPLIANT

Car was imported into the country(Nigeria), from the USA, as a used car, and ever since it was delivered by the dealer to me in Lagos, its had this DELAYED, OR SLUGGISH ENGAGEMENT WHEN ITS IN REVERSE (R).

OUR STRATEGY

1. Trying to understand the customer's complaint.
*What times and scenarios does this problem occurs?
Clients reply: Almost immediately R is engaged.

*Simulated the problem, and got the issue.
NB: This is almost similar to problems you experienced on regular cars.

2. Have you replaced the transmission fluid before Sir?
Yes, I have.

3.What sort of fluid was used in that process?
Well, the guy that brought the car down to Lagos said they bought Abro fluid.

Remember, Abro/Seahorse, and Holt are Dextron II/III fluids, that aren't compatible with eCVT systems.

4. There and then, we knew where the problem was coming from(wrong transmission fluid has bring dumped into the system).

EXECUTION OF THE JOB

EMPHASIS SHOULD BE ON SAFETY

Replacing this fluid can be performed by anyone who's tech savvy.

But if you aren't confident about embarking on such, do please consult your "doctor" before ...days.

So sorry for delving into medicals. Was just for some fun guys!

1. Get the car parked on a level surface

2. Choke the rear tyres

3. Properly position a hydraulic jack, and jack the front end, or the driver side.
This would provide more access to underneath the car.

4. Drained the existing transmission fluid from the system after unbolting the drain bolt using an Allen wrench, in to a catch pan.

5. Refilled the transmission system using the recommended WS transmission fluid(4L), using a pump funnel, and a small diameter hose, to direct the fluid straight to the transmission refill hole at the rear top of the transmission.

6. Started the engine, and allowed the fluid to warm before engaging all the gear levels to observe how they engage.

RESULTS

At the end of the service, everything was perfect.

¶¶¶¶Considering carrying out similar service on your car, do give us a call.

Car TalkRe: How To Identify A Filling Station That Sells Poor Quality Fuel by TRYGO(op): 7:25am On May 27, 2017
@kashif. That's what I'm saying. Commercial drivers and Okada riders are some of the indicators one could use, if you want to know if a filling station's fuel is of: (1) good quality, and (2), no sharp practices at the pump.

@paperlace. If you bought that fuel and you thought you were ripped off by the attendant, check out how much you'd loose if that car breaks down when you use a fuel from...

@whizpete. Exactly. If its heavily crowded, and you can't wait, you got to go!

As regards the nnpc stuff, hope you'd realised that there are filling stations operate under nnpcs franchise? To you think those ones wouldn't want yo make maximum profit? Standards might not be followed.

But if you can actually access known brands as you've mentioned, that would help.

¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶

PS: Please I'm not suggesting anyone goes join a queue to buy fuel, if you've got other alternatives.

Just remember, the time one doesn't have to be in a queue and buy fuel from a reputation station, would be the time eventually that would be spent in trying fix any fuel related issues.

Car TalkHow To Identify A Filling Station That Sells Poor Quality Fuel by TRYGO(op): 8:22pm On May 26, 2017
INTRODUCTION
Most motorists must have had terrible encounters with some filling stations. Such encounters range from being ripped off by petrol attendants while filling up your tank, or you get to incur some unplanned expenses in repairs as a result of poor fuel quality in some of those filing stations.

So, HOW DO YOU IDENTITY A FILLING STATION WITH A POTENTIAL THREAT TO YOUR "POCKET"?

Here are some points I have gathered from my experience.
Feel freed to add your kind of experience.
*Please, it should be limited to FUEL QUALITY, and not price hikes.

1. Low patronage.
These days, you've got filling stations springing out daily to service a particular neighborhood.
Because of the stiff competitions here and there right now, some filling stations aren't able to. compete.

WHEN YOU DON'T SEE LOTS OF MOTORISTS COMING THERE TO BUY FUEL, THAT'S A FLASHPOINT FOR YOU. That's to tell you, is either the quality of fuel being sold isn't up to standard(maybe has being adulterated and/or contaminated, causing engine wahala).

People would patronise such stations, when they know they'd derive maximum benefits(for their car, and perhaps, their pockets too).

2. Complaints from motorists.
A direct source of such complaints would come from commercial drivers more often.
You could incidentally here an angry commercial driver, whose bitter about the economic loss his suffering as a result of breakdown of his car from buying bad fuel. When you get wind of such info, ask huh?s. Such as, where was the fuel purchase, and what was the name of the station.

3. Beware of filling stations acting as a franchise.
Some of these filling stations do not adhere to the strick international standards of the mother company abroad. What they seem to be interested is to make maximum profit at the expense of motorists.

So, next time you go filling your tank at a major brand, be sure it's a representative of the foreign entity its representing.

CONCLUSION
With the proliferation of filling stations here and there, it has become imperative to ensure that you patronise stations where you'd have better service delivery, and not where, because of time constraints, decide to buy poor quality fuel, that in the long run would create a deep hole in your pocket(s).
Being vigilante and observant is the key.

PS. Feel free to drop your flashpoints too.

@erex. Can you pls a little bit make me understand what you're saying. I can't decipher what you've asked "automedics"? Maybe I could be help to you.
Car TalkRe: Hello Car Gurus, My Ford Escape V6 Consumes Fuel Like Madt by TRYGO(m): 11:50pm On May 17, 2017
Here's my take on this!

*Have your intake manifold systems looked at properly. If you've got, air leaks around the airflow assembly, you'd have a lean situation, where the ECU commands long duration of injection pulse width.

*Inspect that fuel pump. In some instances where the pump begins to fail, the rate of flow(fuel supply) increases.....

*Have that car hooked on to a scan tool. Even though you don't have a CEL showing on the dashboard, the bulb might be dead, so, you might not see the light. In some cars I have worked on, there won't be CEL, but when scanned, you get codes out.

*Other likely reasons have being pointed out by other folks here already.

PS: pls feed the house as your investigations progresses.

@erico2k2. Longest time! Thought you've being onboard the latest NASA space shuttle launch system to Mars. Well, that's the point I have tried pointing out in this article. You're perfectly right about VIN check before an engine is purchased in Ladipo. I for one, have never done that. I think the best thing in my opinion, would be the hands on visual inspections as I have enumerated here.

Thanks for the contributions though.

PS:
¶If there are standard tools, just as you've said, it would cut the duration of inspections and aftermath issues to almost 1/2.
Imagine what it would be, if during inspections, you've got a functional COMPRESSION TESTER.

¶ The other best way I would suggest is to BENCH TEST THE ENGINE WHILE OFF OF THE ENGINE. That way, you can assess its operations, etc.

There are service providers at the market, that do that.

Car TalkRe: How Do You Buy A Used Engine For Your Car(In Ladipo, Lagos)? by TRYGO(op): 8:56am On May 13, 2017
@diportivo. No, depends on what section of the "fence" you're sitting on. If you're on the mecho part, you might learn some "bit". But for the car owner, going to get an engine/gearbox worth hundreds of thousands, you'd know there's somewhat a " thin line" of distinction to make.
I have experienced those guys, and how parts are bought in that market. Except, perhaps you aren't someone within the automotive chain. If you aren't, you must have heard a whole lot of issues about engine/gearbox purchases there.

@Gazzuzz. I do understand all what you're saying.
This is a "tip of" an ice berg na. Do me a favour to please be specific.
The writeup is specifically as regards purchases in Ladipo market, Lagos.

These guys selling those parts aren't organized as you'd want it.

In Ladipo, I hope you know those guys don't make use of P/N in their transactions? If you're placing orders for new parts, that we know you've got to, or else, you've yourself to blame at the.

¶¶¶What they are interested in is the engine configuration, model year, and some sensors/components variations, etc. ¶¶¶¶

PS: Y do you think, when you go there to buy used parts, its rare for you to get parts with same P/N as yours? Its that simple.

...."matching part numbers...."? That's y you need someone with such competencies to help you out there.
The writeup is tailored to the way the market is set up.
Car TalkRe: How Do You Buy A Used Engine For Your Car(In Ladipo, Lagos)? by TRYGO(op): 8:13am On May 13, 2017
@diportivo. Hmmm. If you've bought parts that costs the customer a fortune, YOU would not only shine your eyes while in that market. You go add tooth o! From any small mistake there, legal issues and ....comes up.

@Autopartz. You're right sir. I think there's no one throughout their experience in the automotive field, has never being into a quagmire as regards fallen victim of buying an engine/gearbox which was purportedly OKed, and later found out to be a real junk.

If they refused you getting the Vin, you run away then?! Similar to what you do when trying to buy any car from the USA, or Nigeria. You check the vin, and run a Carfax report. But I hope you know often times, you've got to retrieve such Vins clandestinely?
