Great people, This car has been sold. It was sold this morning. Thank you all for your considerations. Rgds. |
During the campaign, some said Obama was going to be an Antichrist, people said no it is impossible, afterall he is a Christan. Little did we know that like has been said, the Antichrist would rise from the church just like the Devil right from God nose afterall the Devil was an archangel but him see God finish. Even if this report is not true, Obama has done enough for us to see the coming back of Sodom and Gomorrah. He should wait the invaders from the East are close. Falling down, falling down, America is falling down, I don't care.eaaa, . The devil has completely taken over "God's won country". "let me who think he standeth take heed lest he falls" God bless Nigeria, at least we are still sane. Even though there is corruption in the land like any other place we are still sane. God help us. |

gascoign1:In fairness to first class students, it is not the role or responsibility of first class students to make your ear piece, it is the duty of your 2.1, 2.2. It is even more that of HND holders. But of course when first class students work as tellers in banks (jobs that should belong to OND and SSCE), who will work in the academia and the research institutes. The few ones that have chosen the research are playing their part in the presence of lean finances and low support. So many prototypes and research documents here and there, no step further. |
Why would people not just grow up. First class is earned and not given. You can give whatever you want to anyone you want, you won't get a first class, you have to earn it. When students fail, they would say my lecturer failed me, when they passed, I passed that course. They have brought the same spirit to this first class issue, when people can't make first class, they would say my school don't just dash out first class while other schools do. Nonsense. The only little thing I see is that sometimes, some good students have issues in their early years, and so they end up not making first class especially in schools which run on the CGPA system and not the percentage system. Even this case is rare. FIRST CLASS IS EARNED NOT GIVEN. |
Why give awards to all the defence guys wetin dem do? 10 Abdullahi, D.I Comptroller General Of Police Public CFR which one is comptroller general of POLICE again 18 Rear Admiral A.A Madueke Former Chief Of Naval Staff Public CFR Why does this man and deserve an award because of his wife or what? 34 Prof. Chinua Achebe Scholar, Eminent Writer Private CFR Chinua Achebe didn't collect any award afterall Nigeria is FALLING APART Many governors are they. why not? A part of the list came from the states, so the govs just included their names. Alhaji Abdulkadir Sanusi Dantata Businessman Private CON So AbdulKadir has been promoted from MFR to CON, does this award come because u are rich or because of some contribution to nationhood. Well ha has given jobs to many (i think that is part of it) GOD HELP MY COUNTRY. |
" we are waiting for the guys dredging River Niger from Boro to get to Bayelsa so we can use the sand to create more land in Yenogoa" - Timipre Silva (Bayelsa Gov). Why on earth do u need to wait for dredging that would never reach bayelsa when they are numerous dredgers that can be rented or bought from the state huge allocation. This is what you hear when a gov is unwilling to do anything in a state. |
Ejiekwu 1:Ejiekwu, I have sent EN 1992 to you. I tried attaching the doc on Nairaland but I couldn't; I am constrained to 200kB and the doc is about 1.2MB. Great people, The problem is I do not have all of them but I have this one EN 1992 which supersedes BS 8110. Euro codes are not readily available yet, you might need to buy either hard or soft copies online but I hope you find this one useful. Regards. |
Now, especially for the structural engineers in the house, I hope you are aware that BS 8110, Bs 5950, etc have been superceded by the Eurocodes. If we, in Nigeria, say we are still using the affected BS codes then we are working with documents that are no longer valid. This is an issue that I think is being taken up at the level of NSE or NICE, etc. Action: Begin to familiarize yourself with the Eurocodes. The only place I think we might have problems is which annex to adopt. May be we would adopt british as we do not have our own. |
eminemkayc:Thanks eminemkayc for your contribution. When I said no moment transfer, I meant for the sake of manual analysis. Of course in reality except for roller supports, nearly all supports transfer some amount of momemt. One important thing is construction experience added to your detailing experience would make you a good designer. When I said construction experience I mean construction experience acquired by doing and not by reading. They are different. Same applies to detailing. Meanwhile, I can see you are a research fellow in the oil and gas environment, what is your area of research, it may be of interest to me and some other people in this forum. |
yusufu16:Yes you tried but further to the comments made by eminemkayc, see below, q1: The welded plate is actually a pin. The plate is only welded to the steel superstructure and not the concrete substructure so no moment is transferred between the steel and the concrete. A concrete column reinforcement placed under a concrete mat reinforcement is a good example of a fixed support. It transfer moments to the foundation. That is the reason why you need to be careful in your detailing and construction practices. Also a normal column to pad or raft beam connection has a great element of fixity. It is only for the reason of manual analysis (calculations) that the assumption that only "axial load is transferred" is made. q3: it is after 28days not 21. Also 100mmx100m cubes are acceptable (by standards) though the usual practice is 150mmx150mm. It should also be known that this value is compressive strength as the values for tensile strength are different and quoted differently. You also mention cylinder, also note the values for cylinders are different as cubes and cylinders do not produce the same result. And that is why you see quotes like C12/15 or C20/25 showing cylinder/cube respectively. In the latest eurocodes, the value for the cylinder is what is used for design. q4: On this also, one major reason is the soil pressures, if the soil bearing capacity is relatively low (subject to area covered by pad), you would have to use raft instead of pad. Also when your pad foundation covers about 2/3 of the building area it becomes uneconomical (cost) and unsafe from geotechnics point of view i.e. the distribution bulb intersect which could also lead to a form of failure, in this case a raft is used. As for differential settlement, don't use a raft when this would occur it would ultimately fail. It is better you use a pile. This needs further analysis. q6: You are right with the software answers. The easier ones that are used with hand calculations are 3-moment and moment distribution method. I hope this informs. |
ritux:That must have been long ago because at that speed now you can't make it bearing in mind that police are always on the road to disturb and accuss you, there are bumps everywhere, junctions here and there where people cross, goats etc. Sometimes there is even hold-up at Sapele junction. Well it may be it is possible early hours of saturday. MONAGHAN:This is falacy. You don't have enough data to generalise for Nigeria. Also most of this speed records are on good roads or good portions of the roads not the bad ones. If not for very effect traffic police in most of the other countries, people would be running at higher speeds. |
200km/hr in A Honda Accord 2002 model (baby boy) on Benin Bye pass of the Warri - Benin Expressway. I was actually travelling to the Osun state on the 24th of December and I left Warri around 3:30pm. When I arrived, I felt silly, I could have waited till the next day. Could have died if anything had happened. I have repeated that several times though but I have reduced speed generally now. |
NLNG's move is a good business decision. Put the company where the raw materials, finished product etc is. Let me state here that NLNG's move cannot cripple Lagos. If you have been around Lagos you would know Lagos does not survive by oil companies. Lagos port, commerce in Alaba, Oshodi, Apapa, mile 2, Ereko, Idumota, berger, masamasa, etc bring in more especially due to multiple taxation. There are more than 100,000 other companies, they all would pay income tax, etc. Lagos would only become more serious with taxation and make sure they achieve at least 95%. Go to Lagos who is talking about NLNG moving. If Shell leaves port Harcourt today, you would here shout everywhere. Many people come into Lagos to do business that has no real bearing with Lagos may be to clear, to get some document, meet people, etc. They buy fuel, eat, etc somehow they tax if nothing they pay VAT. Then think about more than 70% or the nations import that comes through Lagos. There are still other numerous ways Lagos generate income but this does not mean NLNG money would not be missed but it wont cripple Lagos. If your plan or that of Jonathan is to cripple Lagos, it might be a dream that might not be achieved but what would really affect Lagos is to get the ports in Calabar, Port Harcourt, Warri, etc working so that Aba, Onitsha, and other towns don't need Lagos port. Then gradually spare parts and car dealing business would reduce in Lagos. Move all oil firms and soon (say 20yrs) all oil consulting firms would move with them. Then people like Niger Dock and Dorman Long that fabricates for oil and gas would think of moving and might never move because they service other areas too. All this might happen but Lagos would still not be crippled but affected. "This is the 1st major move to correct the wickedness of FG to the Niger Delta people. We are waiting for Shell,Agip,Chevron,NNPC,Nigeria-Sao Tome,Total etc. to erect their 30 storey headquarters in Port-Harcourt." careytommy (m) "next up: spdc" This is an ignorant post. Where is SPDC HQ. SPDC already moved several years ago. Its headquarters is at Rumuobiakani, Old Aba road, Port harcourt, River state for your info. What is remaining of SPDC in Lagos is a liaison office with about 10 or so staff. They is another office in Warri (servicing the west but they still report to the HQ - Port Harcourt(the east)). So soon Shell would need to open Yenogoa base and Benin Base to cater for oil fields in Bayelsa and Edo states respectively. I will support any state government to make the move. Then we would start the economics of doing business. Total HQ might be in Lagos but they have a big operational base in Port Harcourt, I believe gradually as ND becomes more safe, they would move most of their staff to PH. Maximip (m) "Awesome. decongest Lagos please." 400 people decongest a city of 17mill (est). This is the joke of the millennium. |
Maladministration |
Putting sentiments aside, The worst governors should be those with resources and yet never did anything or much. I have seen people mentioned Aregbe (no), Uduaghan (asaba air strip, beautification of warri - inflated 10000% and the work never finishes, he also bought big TVs and installed them on the main roundabout entering the town, I know he wasted Delta money but I do not think he is as useless as the ones I have mention below). Someone even mention Rochas Okorocha (haba, this is very unfair). I know people would be tempted to call the following names but this guys still did a little Peter Odili - he did little though not commensurate with states allocation. (airport road, rumuola bridge, peter odili rd, and some that I am not sure of. Sometimes I wonder what port harcourt looked like in 1999) DSP Alams - this guy did a lot of works in Bayelsa, he just fell on the wrong side of Nigeria politics and all his stolen funds were revealed. Alao Akala - though he kept ibadan as dirty as possible, he fixed some roads in Ogbomoso and built a mighty hospital and I also heard he did some minor projects in some communities. Let us also remember that some states have civil servants like water (large recurrent expenditure) yet they have meagre resources - Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Kwara (including semi-almajiris) and this why nobody that knows the southwest very well should forget Bisi Akande in a hurry. Most northern states have meagre resources too but with less amount of civil servants (low recurrent expenditure) and some of the northern govs have done well Danjuma Goje and Dalhatu Bafarawa comes to mind. The worst state governors I am sure of Lucky Igbenedion - original yeye man, the worst in my compendium Goodluck Jonathan - couldn't even complete projects that were almost finished by Alams Timipre Silva - took after Jonathan. He made Alams look like a messiah. Chinwoke Mbadinuju - Honestly this guy deserves to be sentenced to hell. |
I remember one Uncle Joe comedy movie that I watched back then. It had the following content. Uncle Joe couldn't marry, he always had issues with girl friends. One particular girl friend comes to mind. She went to the market bought meat worth , naira about 10pieces of meat and consumed everything while cooking the soup. When we was asked why, she replied, "I used one to say it's ok, I used one to say it's alright, I used one to say it's ok,, na so the meat come finish, " i also remember this song from the movie, "Uncle Joe Joe Joe, na woman palavar, " |
ogoebube:Without prejudice to anyone, bribes would not get you a first class in any school. If you like pay 1 million per course. Check out your school or any other school and see the people who made first class. You can say at work they do not do well (may be due to lack of motivation or poor communication). You can even say they are not the best ranked in the office (may be poor team players, or lack of emotional intelligence) or even that they do not rise fast in your organisations (may be they are focus or perfectionism which is not needed) but definitely not that they sort or paid bribe to get a first class. Nope I disagree. On the issue of jacking and not passing, as far as you jack without assimilating or understanding or for some lecturers craming, then how would you pass. Sometimes people jack the wrong materials, when all they need is a group discussion. Some people go around jacking instead of meeting their colleagues who knows better and can explain better sometimes even more than the lecturers, they stick to their book only out of ignorance (or may be pride). may have made 2-1 when people who they believe on a better day should be better end up making 2-2. |
Anywhere in the world as far as it is entry level job, CGPA matters. Take your study seriously. Somebody said before that CGPA is not a test of brilliance but seriousness, whatever it is a measure of, just get it. Let us stop shying away from thinks we can achieve and try to use other methods to justify them. We always quote Nigeria and make it look like Nigeria is different completely from every other country in the world. For goodness sake the method Shell, Mobil, BP, Citibank, Etisalat, Chevron uses to employ in Nigeria is the same they use elsewhere. The caveat to this is the rising issues of sorting (don't ever think, this is still another Nigerian problem, it happens several places outside Nigeria) and local community content where Shell has to recruit 40% (say) even if the people have lower grades. Even when Shell (or Chevron) wants to recruit from the local communities they still go for the best among them. The other person who mention front door and back door is also correct. If you do not have access to back door better know what you require. For entry level, your CGPA matters. At higher levels, it is almost insignificant, other issues prevail like experience, certifications, team work ability, emotional intelligence, behaviours (Belbin or Myer-Briggs would give you an idea), companies you have worked for etc. Cheers. |
Muttex:I quite doubt that. Conversely, it is expected that if you love you wife more than anybody, show it but if you love your children than your wife, never show it. |
This question can be answered this way. The husband is the driver, the wife the conductor and children, the passengers. The passengers would enter the bus and drop i.e. the children would come and later leave to go and start their own family. The conductor gathers the money, he helps you out. He makes sure no passengers cheats even if he puts some of the money in his pocket, it is still better than the passengers not paying. Bottomline, don't despise your wife because of your childen, without her they won't be there afterall and in the conductor's case, your wife would be with you even when the children are gone. You guys would face it together. If you make her look like a fool because of your children, they would go one day, start their home and focus on their family NA THAT TIME YOUR WIFE GO SHOW YOU PEPPER. They do not forget and they have the powers to show you pepper believe me. |
Hmm. I was in Lagos at the weekend and spent basically my 2days around VI, Lekki and Ajah. I want to make some submissions here and I would suggest that we look at this critically, sentiments apart. First, this is not Falomo bridge, I like the name given to it Famolo on-ramp bridge though this is a little deceptive. Second, what bossinie said is true and as a fellow Civil Engineer and Construction project management expert, I think he is right. It might even be less than the figure he quoted or a bit higher. Again LCC is not battling with serious security challenge which affects delivery of projects in areas like the Niger Delta of Nigeria, so there is no justification for cost escalation. N2.5Bn is too much. Again, we should remember, the guys constructing are the ones indirectly financing and they would be paid back in the long run, so inflating the cost is probable. Third, that bridge was quite unnecessary. Why? There is already a link at the junction before this new bridge that links Falomo bridge on Adeyemo Alakija. From that junction, you turn left, then right and you hit Adeyemo Alakija from where you can then proceed to Falomo bridge. Although sometimes there could be some traffic jams on this section which is not unlikely on the new ramp of the interchange (the new N2.5bn bridge) because of the bottleneck that would be created on Falomo bridge. Forth, the cost would be paid one way or the other by the government through the road users or tax payers money. There is no free lunch in freetown or do you think LCC would dash Lagos state a road because LCC is Bill Gates that wants to eradicate polio. Fashola is trying but he needs to be careful. Over pricing projects in the name of delivery or because the state is not initially paying for the cost is not good enough. He might end up leaving Lagos indebted to few individuals just like the case of Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire who his country was indebted to yet he was still borrowing them money. |
Femary what is the cost implication. I need a tracker on my truck. you can reach me on tuneski09@gmail.com. How does your tracker work? How do you install? Give me details. As plenty as possible. Rgds. |
Abraham was neither. He was from Ur of chealdeans which is in present day Iran. They are persians. Arabs and Jews originated from him. This argument is unnecessary it won't lead anywhere. It is pure unnecessary polemics. |
Where is VOLKS WAGEN? |
1. Yes, it is right to marry someone older than you. (+) , Equation 1 2. No, it is wrong to marry a desperadoe. (-) , Equation 2 if we combin equation 1 and 2, + x - = - , Equation 3 from equation 3 above, the answer is - (no) therefore, grab your QED. |
In this day and era when some Churches' ministers wear anything in name of freedom. I saw one the other day claiming to be a pastor and more than 3/4 of her ... were there for sale. God go help us. |
ochi-aha:Hmm, Well I know Pipe welders that earn as much as 180k per month minus bonus for more joints. That is far more than what the average engineer of say almost equal or equal years of work earns in Nigeria. Some fitters also earn well too. The lucky ones of those trailer drivers get even more but they waste it daily on beer, women, too much food (1 plate with 10 meat), etc. This however is not a reason why someone should not get a university degree. A tailor with a degree would do tailoring with class (only if that is true internationally). Nigeria hype on degree certificates is repulsive. |
