Stop spewing gibberish. I did all my laboratory tests in Nigeria and didn’t even know anyone in the USA. I was given the contact of a doctor in Texas and he gave me the price list for child birth. I was asked to pay a deposit, to get a letter stating he (dr) has accepted my wife has a patient. The dr gave us hospitals where he has privileges & we picked one. We discussed with a financial counselor & she gave us a quote for self paid patient. She even testified that, Nigerians use the hospital & they don’t have a problem with the embassy during renewal (which is confirmed). She even warned that, without upfront payment we’ll be ineligible for the self paid discount. Money was paid from Nigeria & at the port of entry, the immigration officer was informed and given receipt of hospital payment. By your logic, the poe officers are ignorant or the us hospitals are deceitful, right? I don’t know of an American that can pay $6400 in cash. Who dash monkey banana?. It’s difficult for an average American to cough out $6400 in cash for child birth. Note that - mom’s have been receiving discounts since time in memorial. What is different now?
This is incredibly self-entitled nonsense. What percentage of Nigerians can afford $6400? Likely far less than 0.01% and definitely far less than the percentage of Americans who can afford that same amount. How many Nigerians can truly afford that on their legitimately earned wages alone? Middle class Americans can certainly afford that easily and would choose that over paying more than $20,000 annually on health insurance premiums if they could. As I have said here times without number, if you think Nigerians have that much money, why don’t you use it to develop your country so you don’t have to open countless threads begging piteously for foreign visas to countries whose citizens you presume are too poor to afford your level of wealth?

Now, your doctor is not a visa officer nor understands how immigration law works. He can tell you what he likes, it’s ultimately meaningless when you apply for a visa.

It is not CBPs job to question why you were given a visa.

Am not arguing with you neither do I need to argue it with VO. All I want to know is your own perspective as "an insider" for enlightenment cos am always ready to learn and I do business with your countrymen ..........
My perspective is simple - the VO is right. Paying $4600 for having a baby in the US is way too cheap considering what regular citizens pay. The argument that you’re simply getting it at a low cost because you’re self pay doesn’t work. If that were the case, it would make zero sense for anyone to carry insurance. Most folks pay annual insurance premiums higher than what it costs for you to have a baby here. It’s incredible.

Com'n dnt be clever by half mate. I am not the one tripping over American visa let's be clear on that. Some of this people presented this same bills and quotes! And they were granted visa so tell me what's changed or you just decided to turn a blind eye to that fact? If stating the obvious is being self-entitled + arrogance!! Mate,I love it.
You can simply have your babies in your own home country. There is no visa requirement for that.

Mr trigger, do you realize nobody register at the hospital without a valid ID or a copy of your visa? So if am registering with a visa how am I taking advantage of the loophole? The way you take carry this matter for head can you have the same energy for the hospital?
The hospitals provide a valuable service to us, you don’t. Simple as that.

The hospitals are funded by taxes we pay, so yes it is the VOs responsibility to ensure that you don’t use loopholes to exploit them.

Third, whether you register at the hospital with a visa or not is not my problem. It is YOUR responsibility to ensure you pay what it truly costs to have your baby in the US.

Why don’t you respond to the VOs with this same level of self-entitled arrogance and see if you get a visa.

It is like people here are selfish. So sorry to use the word. Some of us just stumbled upon this thread and we have been asking how we can also be part of the idea of obtaining a US students Visa but no one is ready to enlighten us.

Pls, help us with information, starting from choosing. a school, how to obtain scholarship etc.

It is by helping others that we become fulfilled.

Help! Help!! Help!!!!
While you were waiting to “stumble” upon this thread, others were busy populating it with the info you now seek. You now want those same people to go show you what you need while you put your feet up and do what exactly?

You don’t need information on how to choose a school, that is your responsibility. No one shows you how to put food in your mouth.

Its an excuse. Its been explained here several times but Twoods insists on stating contrary. Discounts are available to all patients that want to pay, no need to claim “hardship” or anything for that matter. People should be informed and notify the VO all the information with proof.
Please make sure to state this information at your next visa interview.

God bless you for this...some of this quotes were clearly stated on the website of all this hospitals, now penalizing the patients and excluding the hospitals seems fair right?
What are this 'poor' Americans doing about this hospitals? Please let's keep same energy. If a VO/ American government feels an international patient should be punished by receiving a discount what about the hospital that facilitated the discount? It's ok to refuse an applicant if u want to,your country, your rules. But please come correct with a reasonable excuse not one sided punishment.
Poor Americans are US citizens who don’t require a visa. It’s not their responsibility to make sure you know the rules. The hospitals are not permitted to ask about your citizenship when offering you care. It’s not their fault that you’ve been exploiting a loophole all along. Besides, it isn’t punishment to deny you a visa, you can have your baby anywhere, your choice.

But wait... the quotation above was from a US hospital and nowhere was it stated that the cost is for Poor or Rich america. Please i need enlightenment, if you visit the same hospital are you not going to pay the same price quoted above for the same purpose if you are paying out of pocket? or is there something i dont know? am asking because many people visit US hospitals not only for birth but for other issues and they paid the exact money quoted by those hospital in cash, how as that amounted to a crime? Agreed it's their country and its their visa, how is it reasonable for me to see two hospitals rendering the same services or procedures and you ask me to go for the higher cost. @Twood i actually need your input here maybe there is a policy that majority are not aware of as regard Medical Visit in US
Why don’t you make this argument at your next visa interview? Or you think the VOs are simply sadists who don’t know their own country as well as you do?

I went for my interview today! The v.o was so mean, she had denied every one before me. So when it was my turn, she had a straight face one, and requests my passport.? She asked my reason for going to the US, I said vacation and to take my son for to the(she cuts me off but I continued anyways) hospital for medical appointment.
Then she asks why he wasn’t applying for the vusa with me. I said he is a US Citizen. Then she shook her head. She asked how much I paid in the hospital, I told her $6400( hospital and obgyn) She asked if I made change of intent. I told her I had sent the email out, (because at that time, that was what we had to do)
I brought out the receipts and gave her. She went through it, and asked my I received a discount. And I said I paid what I was asked to pay. Because I paid my delivery fees even before my delivery. So she said no, I had received a discount. Then asked for my son’s birth certificate, and asks me to to read the address on it, I did. Apparently the address says Texas. She said you see, you said you reside in Texas, so you received a discount. I insisted that I didn’t, and showed her the document for early self Pay patients, the hospital had asked me to sign. She didn’t go through it. She Just kept her straight face whilst drinking her tea. Then she asked if health care was so cheap why do you think Americans would complain? At this point I go tired. She handed me the yellow paper, as well as my passports and we made eye contact, then I walked away. She neither asked for any other documents, nor asked any other question.

I felt really bad, never been denied any visa.
I kept farting silently because I was nervous.
The VO was right. If the average American paid $6400 for childbirth, healthcare costs would not be the massive problem it is today. My wife got a less than 30 minute non invasive procedure that did not require her to be anaesthesized two weeks ago, it cost us over $2100.

The truth is you’re paying costs usually reserved for the poor US citizens. That’s why she asked for the contact address you claimed when your son was born.

Toured my school yesterday, and all I can do is curse our leaders. I’ve always known that we’re backward, but it slaps differently when you get to see a real standard for comparison.

I won’t lie, we’re not getting there at all.

Good luck to those applying this spring and next fall.
American schools were not built by angels. Our schools are simply reflections of who we are... not these “leaders” we love to blame for everything. Schools work here on the honor system... professors here take their jobs seriously, students also do not cut corners, do not offer bribes, don’t apply based on fraudulent documents and work hard rather than abdicating their responsibilities to a “god” we don’t reverence anyway.

The people here complaining about our schools are the same people who excuse casual lies and deliberate omissions at visa interviews, as long as you “get your visa”. Remove every American at Harvard and replace them with Nigerians, it will become a hellhole in 5 years.

Several things I learned in my time here:
1. Americans take time incredibly seriously. We laugh away our time based on “African time”.
2. Nobody here will ever dream about stealing money meant for salaries, or books, or facilities... how many of you here can honestly say you’re not going to school on money your parents obtained through crooked contracts? Do your parents count in the “leaders” you curse?
3. People here think of community first... Nigerians think of me first.

I could go on and on, but you get the point.

The typical ambivalence and tacit nod to fraud under the guise of “ignorance”. People were writing SATs in the 1990s and obtaining F1 visas when the only means of communication were paper brochures and old fashioned letters at the post office box. There is no excuse for taking a known fraudulent test result to the US embassy.

I wanted to leave this issue me not wanting to come clean, but here is it. In 2007 I was very young and gullible. i never saw what a SAt result look like. All i had in mind was to go to school in the US and help improve the life of my poor family. I was told i can only register and write SAT in Lagos. I remember taking a night bus that day from the north and arriving Lagos in the very early hours of the next day. just brushed my teeth and headed to an office for the exams. The rest is what it is now. That's ok guys. thanks all for your comments.
Young and gullible is not an excuse. 15 year old Nigerians write SATs all the time. As at 2007, the internet was in existence. The ETS has had a fully functioning website full of all the information you might need on the SAT since at least 2002.

You would not need another interview, as long as you are going to the same school and program. But you must let your DSO know that you already got your F1 visa stamp when you request for an updated I-20. But don't be surprised if the US chooses to remove this option for Nigerians if they feel so many are starting to abuse it.

Good morning all. My name is Vivian, I'm new here. Someone recommended this page to me. I must say Thanks to all the members and admin for such a page. Its really very helpful. My F1 interview date is on 22nd of August that's next week Thursday in abuja. This is my second interview. I was previously denied in Lagos on 22nd of June. My school resumes on 26th of August.. Its my second degree I'm going for. Course given is pre-medicine (biology). My aunt is my sponsor. She's a nurse in Maryland, USA. She is the one that recommended the school (Salisbury university). In my first interview, there was a mistake in my i20 form. Instead of pre med, school wrote peace studies, I thought it won't matter since I have the admission letter with me and it took so long for the i20 form to reach me, but it did. And I have reached out to the school and they sent another i20 form. This time around putting only biology and no pre-medicine as it is, in my admission letter. So I filled ds 160 with only biology and plan to explain its pre-medicine when I go. They also asked if I did micro biology in my first degree and why the switch... Please can anyone kindly direct me this time around. Also I see a lot of answers on "how did you hear about the school".. Almost everyone is saying from research, recommended by a boss or alumni etc.. Answering that is my aunt that recommended it, is it a unprofessional and not a good response please?? And most answers in the transcripts i read reply No when asked if they have family abroad.. I don't have my immediate family there but I have my aunt, an uncle and cousins.. Is that a yes or no please... I really prefer to do a second degree in medicine than do masters in industrial chemistry. Please I will appreciate the guidance.. Thanks in advance.
You really haven't thought this through at all.

1. If you say you are going for pre-medicine in the US, chances are high that you will be denied - why? Because no VO will believe that you wish to study medicine in the US and return to Nigeria.

2. Medicine is HIGHLY competitive as a degree in the US. Most schools in the US only grant admissions to US citizens and permanent residents. At best, you may find a school or two that will put you on a waiting list - if you score incredibly high on the MCAT, but your chances of getting in are low. Almost all medical students require loans for medical school, you most likely will not be able to qualify for those loans, so how do you intend to fund a medical program?

That being said, ask your school to defer your resumption date, likely they will need to send you a new I-20 reflecting the new date before your interview on the 22nd. I believe you can go with a copy to your interview. Simply be truthful at your interview and hope for the best.

I apologise for not giving official individual credit but I know you all and am praying for God's grace on your lives for the good you are continually doing.

Ps: I wrote my transcript, but it didn't reflect on the forum. I'll re write again.
Only the original, ink-signed copy of your I-20 is acceptable at the port of entry. It is surprising that your school has not sent one to you knowing full well you resume on the 21st, less than 3 days away. You need to have your school send this to you ASAP and also extend your resumption date.

If you have not booked your ticket yet, chances are you will get one at a highly inflated price and you will need to fly out latest the night of the 20th to make the 21st resumption date. It seems to me that you do not have sufficient funds to travel or school in the US and the sponsor you claimed at your interview is not willing to sponsor you. You need to put all emotions aside and critically consider whether you want to defer your admission to spring until you have sorted out your financial issues.

This is unserious. I have been to Belgium several times and have held Schengen visas issued by the Belgian embassy for years. VFS global is not affiliated with the Belgian embassy so it is not the problem of the embassy if VFS issued you a fake reference number. This is an issue you will have to settle with VFS.

Secondly, when you apply for a Belgian visa for the first time, they tell you how long it will take. When you apply from the US, the embassy advises you to wait at least 3 weeks for them to get back to you. They have to do a background check and your passport is sent to Brussels for visa stamping. I can imagine it will take a minimum of 6 weeks to do that if you were applying from Nigeria. The issue is not the Belgian embassy, it is the fact that the background check process is inefficient because almost no Nigerian institution keeps any records of value.

Good morning folks. Kindly advice me on this: I applied for a student visa in 2007. I had to travel to lagos to sit for SAT exams as the centres were almost non existent in abuja then. Unfortunately I was issued a fake result. Unknowingly I took it to the embassy then and I was denied based on that document. Fast forward 12years after. I have an Msc, married with 3kids and work with an international development organisation. I now seek to apply to go to the US with just my wife and last born. My wife runs a business where she sells baby cloths and beauty products. I want to ask what are our chances of been issued a visa? Do you think I was banned when I first went to the embassy 12years ago? Is it better we apply to go the UK first before applying to the US embassy? Please not that I still do not have any travel history. I will appreciate your response and admonitions.
12 years later, you're still not willing to be truthful. How were you "unfortunately issued a fake result"? Did you not actually take the test and get the result directly from ETS? How did you "unknowingly" take the fake test to the embassy? You knew you did not take the test and that the results were not a true reflection of your efforts, yet you took the false results with the hope of getting a visa fraudulently. But somehow, you've succeeded in blaming everyone but yourself for the consequences of your own lack of integrity?

Your chances of getting a visa are essentially zero. If the UK shares info with the US, you are likely to face problems getting a UK visa as well. Please stay in Nigeria, we are all tired of being represented by unrepentant frauds.
