I have also been noticing such here.... may God bless us all and let us learn to be our brothers keeper I can almost say for certain, that if YOU were in the US, you won’t even grace this thread with your presence. How many people have posted here enthusiastically, only to disappear after posting their visa approval? Say what you want about “pride”, you are only here to “take” rather than to give. EZEIGBO1OFIMO: I have had to drum this over the years and more especially to rich kids like you, The consular officers at Walter carrington are not looking at your dressing, a whole lot of them get passed around from countries to countries, they have seen the good bad and ugly when it comes to human apparel, so they are not you and other condescending Nigerians who are going to look down on a man just because he has decided no to "dress well" according to your standards.
At this point, you remind me of Milo Yiannopoulous, who thinks because he has a British accent and says stupid things, then he is smarter than "Liberals" . The Visa officers have pretty much made most of their decision, by the time they run through your DS-160, and insofar you can communicate in basic English, they have no problem with you. English is not the native language of Nigerians, and for most Nigerians it has had to become a second Language due to circumstances in a third world country situation that we live in. The sensible, and not condescending folks like you, at Walter carrington know this, and hence it is always reiterated that your only reason for coming is to ascertain the validity of your claims and not to "size you up"
I'm irreligious myself (and consider some atheists asshøles anyway), and if a person gains psychological confidence by praying, then how is it anybody's business, the very idea by some atheist that they need to be killjoys ,and like the Grinch who stole Christmas, and shoot down religious folks is just plain st*pid. If a kid believing in Santa makes him happy, then leave him alone, he poses no harm to the state. So also, if your a VI's applicant wants to pray, let him find emotional comfort in doing so, Çest Fini.
and that is why your spoilt and condescending bratty self isn't a Visa officer. Honestly, are clothes the only things that give your life meaning . The great folks at Walter carrington are not looking for well dressed folks to approve, and quite frankly it's because well dressed folks have constantly tried to con the US embassy, that's why we have to go and stand for interviews there. I'll stress this again, The consular officers do not give s damn about your dressing; if you have filled your DS-160 and have proven yourself to be a genuine Student, that you don't have to wear givenchy shirt for nothing biko
I wonder what you'll have to say about my wonderful Indian friends who decide to have their interviews in English , na Im be say you for deport all of them join
At this point, you have proven yourself to be a Vain condescending woman, your life revolves around clothes and class, Poor brilliant folks looking to make a difference and move up the socio economic class, do not deserve any chance by the like of you . SHAME !!!! SHAME!!!. FOR SHAME!!!. Fortunately, the embassy isn't filled with punks like you, they understand and see a life a whole lot differently, and only want to determine the validity of your claims to a US Visa. Once again SHAME ON YOU!!! And some people who prayed after you certainly got, as I know for a fact that you were definitely not the only person granted a visa. THE ONLY LESSON FROM YOUR POST IS THAT YOU'RE A VAIN, CONDESCENDING AND EUGENIC INDIVIDUAL, WHO PURPOSELY LIED TO OBTAIN VISA AND IS CLAIMING HIGH MORAL GROUNDING AGAINST OTHER RELIGIOUS FOLKS. YOUR MILITANT ATHEISM IS CONDESCENDING AND SILLY , YOU SHOULD FILL YOUR LIFE WITH MORE PURPOSE OTHER THAN YOUR NAUSEATING BRITISH ACCENT AND CLOTHING . . . CC - abujaniv lagosNIV visaofficer justwise- PEOPLE HAVE BEGUN CLAIMING BOYFRIENDS AS UNCLES TO OBTAIN VISAS BY FRAUDENT MEANS ; AUTOMATIC ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSING SHOULD BE APPLIED FOR ALL WHO PRESENT ACCOUNTS WITH DIFFERENT SURNAME THAN THEIRS. Even uncle twoods knows when to bow to those with superior analytical skills. I saw the clear fraud she perpetrated... only to then mount the moral high chair giving advice to others. The only thing I took from her post was that even VOs do sometimes get fooled. I would hope the VOs here spot this and take some action. |

Nigerians should have been angry at the policy set in place by Delta. But, here, it seems like they got angry only because Miss Adicie was summoned to present her credit card.
I am afraid people believe that the rich and famous should be treated differently from the general public
I hate it when someone come up with the "Do you know who I am" argument to bypass a policy set in place. I will never support such a person Nigerians cannot afford to be angry at the policy. Even we know why the policy exists. Secondly, if we had a viable national airline (rather than using them as private piggy banks), delta wouldn’t be able to hold us to ransom. We are our own worst enemies. |

TheCongo2: Completely irrelevant You did more research on the issue, so please us what is Delta version of the event. You obviously did not understand the specific issue you were commenting on. If you did you would know that MISS Adichie is a famous Nigerian novelist and that delta (the only foreign airline with direct flights to Nigeria) has a strict policy that requires anyone who books a flight ticket from Nigeria,by credit card, to present this card in person before boarding. That is not a violation of civil rights, it is simply a fraud prevention policy. |

However, your dear 'friend' has a 60% chance of getting admitted for a masters degree, two of my friends finished with 3rd class back in Nigeria; one has finished his masters degree in Pet Engineering and started working in the US while one just got a conditional offer for masters. In summary, there is no hard rule to this, with proper research and good shortlisting of school, this your dear 'friend' will/might get conditional admission but funding might be a problem if this dear 'friend' cant afford the tuition. a “friend” in need is a “friend” indeed. |

Lee310: LadyG, have you thought about how hardworking Nigerians are? Suffering and smiling as Baba Fela said... Nigerians are not lazy... We are just tired of the same old shit... For every new government, they will promise everything but when they get there, nothing to show for it... I can beat my chest and say if the youth today have the chance to rule... there will be drastic change in Nigeria but corruption will never stop... I disagree totally. Nigerians are lazy... at the risk of being "disrespectful", your post is clear evidence of the type of intellectual laziness endemic in Nigerians. You are not tired of Nigeria's problems, you are only upset because you are not the one at the table to "chop". Who are the youth going to bring "drastic change" in Nigeria? The same youth who see no problem with breaking law and order, misusing visas, consistently vote based on "stomach infrastructure", and like you, are also convinced that corruption will never stop? There is no difference between the youth and the current government in Nigeria... the difference is one has the opportunity to rob Nigeria blind while the other doesn't. Changing a country is about attitude. There is no special magic. The countries you are all rushing to did not get to where they are by calling on a genie. They are where they are because the average individual is solidly committed to the rule of law, honesty and hard work. |

Lee310: Thank you everyone.. I concur and agree with all you said SUGAH... As I said earlier... protect your integrity and make yourself a good citizen of your country.
Nigerians get it all wrong... Deep down your heart.... we are just being fooled with the little knowledge we have.. No one will live forever. You can't stop illegal immigrant... I have never misused my visa but I come across people who do that... I tell them my opinion as I can't misuse it but rather do the right thing. Nevertheless, you can stop it all.. Just pray for the better side of life come your way.
I'm making money in Nigeria and I have my freedom right here. Do what is right.
Nigeria is 57 and there's nothing to show for it... The aerial view of Zambia surpassed my imaginations... DAMN... God knows and will answer our prayers... Please don't start by saying America spent more than 100years before it changed... that was back in the black uncivilized day... Everything has changed now and if you have traveled you should understand me better....
A sin is a sin... I don't have the right to choose for people who want to misuse their visa because of what they have been through all their lives... Just thank God you're living OK and things are working out well for you... Not everyone will have a good heart like you do...
If you misuse a visa... it's in your name and not mine... So all man for himself.... always get my point that I don't encourage people to misuse their visa but you can never judge them sometimes.. No one wants to die poor... I have once read on Nairalander that he loves being a third class citizen in a working country than being a second class citizen in a country that nothing works... He has the right to choose... The VOS still gives visas to people that will misuse it... That's life...
Don't forget that the Britains told Ms. Meghan Markle that she has her limitations getting married to the royal son Prince Harry... It happens everywhere in the world.
You don't live forever... enjoy while it last... nothing last forever.
To everyone... THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX That right there... is why Nigeria is 57 and has nothing to show for it. Often our problems are not simply an issue of bad leaders, it is because we don't challenge each other to do the right thing. "All man for himself" is a self-defeating attitude... ultimately we all pay for the indiscretions of our fellow citizens. None of us here is a criminal (I hope), yet we are treated like criminals simply because of the past sins of people who simply had the misfortune of using the same passport as us. Yours is false piety. The person who misused his visa may be doing it in his name... but to our collective detriment. There is a reason we are subject to degrading visa application conditions and suspicious looks at POEs. You will never find threads like this for the Japanese, Swiss or Norwegians... they don't need it... they are not treated so poorly by Americans... perhaps because they don't believe in excusing bad behavior by their citizens in the name of "all man to himself". God will not answer the prayers of a bunch of liars and the "honest" ones who excuse them because "they cannot judge". The bible is clear - righteousness exalts a NATION [not just "all man to himself"], but sin is a reproach to all [not just "all man to himself"]. Regardless of how upright or rich you are, as a Nigerian, you suffer the indignity of not being able to use a credit card to purchase an international flight... why? A few days ago, i read a rant from the famous Chimamanda Adichie who had to suffer the indignity of being summoned to a US airport, over an hour away, to personally present her credit card before her parents (whose tickets were purchased with her credit card) would be allowed to board an international flight. She was angry, she threatened to write a letter to the CEO of the airline, she protested, she probably wanted to yell "do you know who I am". The flight desk attendants promptly ignored her until she was ready to present her credit card. Of course, Nigerians were angry. They protested. They vowed to boycott Delta airlines. They urged Chimamanda to sue. But frankly, I don't think Delta cares. They know that Chimamanda's suit would be promptly thrown out of court. I doubt the CEO of Delta paid any attention to her letter. Chimamanda was disappointed not to get an apology from Delta... but why should they? After all, she is simply a Nigerian - a well known land of scammers, liars, thieves and dishonest "Christians", regardless of any prestige she thinks she has. Chimamanda may never have committed fraud in her life... but she is forever tarnished by sharing the same country and passport with other Nigerians who have wantonly abused privileges that other nations enjoy. So when folks shallowly say "to each his own" when it comes to fraud and dishonesty, i wonder... perhaps they should read Chimamanda's experience and weep. We are abused and mistreated, because we have shown full well that we will condone fraud and even partake of it if given the chance of not being caught. Bottom-line, others do not care who is who... as far as they are concerned, we are all the same. |

Heywhizzy: Freeze is now sounding more like an Antichrist..
The bible says in Matthew 28:19- Go ye therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
The last time he implied indirectly that Christ is not the only way to heaven when it was clearly written in the book of John 14:6- “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me". But why are our pastors going to the USA, England, South Africa? These are countries who brought us the gospel and have been saturated with the gospel well before us? Are we really going there to "make disciples" or to make money and be famous? Why aren't we going to Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Yemen? Are those nations not also worthy of "making disciples" or do we avoid them out of safety concerns and because there is no money to be made there? |

Why take the risk and associated costs to keep you when they can find another US citizen with an MIS from another paper mill? Take the time to research your field, find out what your job prospects are... who is likely to hire you, how much they are willing to pay you, what the competition is like etc. No one can do this for you. |

Is it gonna work that way? Yep. You should be ok. They can use a copy of your passport to register you. Luckily, your I94 is now electronic so that can be downloaded online using your passport number (which really is the key). Contact the police, they will issue you a police report. Keep this as you will need it when you apply for another F1 visa. The US will likely cancel your previous visa but you will remain in status as long as you remain a fulltime student. Once you are now settled, you can contact the Nigerian consulate nearest to you and obtain a new passport. You will need to reapply for an F1 visa if you leave the US, but this is not compulsory... if you stay in the US, you'll be fine. |

Pearl93: I have a little problem. You actually have a big problem. Pearl93: My first degree is from the UK and i was sponsored by my parents. But due to the current situation in Nigeria, they can't afford to sponsor my Masters. My boyfriend works with a FTSE 100 company in the U.S and earns about 12k dollars a month. He works offshore. He encouraged me to apply to the U.S instead of the U.K and he promised to foot all bills. So far he has kept his side of the deal by paying for GRE, DHL, application fees, sevis and all. It was also his bank statement that I used in getting my I20. Is this $12K AFTER or BEFORE taxes? If it is after taxes then this is good. If it is before taxes then at most, he is getting around $7K after taxes (after deducting state/federal tax, 401K and benefits contributions). That is not a lot to pay for his own upkeep and then pay your fees. It looks like a lot of money to you, but considering cost of living here, it is not a whole lot. Pearl93: My problem now is he said I must not mention at the interview that he is my boyfriend. He said I should say guardian or uncle. Because the fastest way to get denied is to say I have a boyfriend who is an American citizen. But i don't know how feasible that lie is. I am 23 and he is 35. How can he be my guardian? He has sent his bank statements and there is a closing balance of almost 50k dollars. So it surely covers my tuition and cost of living. He is not lying. He is right. Once you tell the VO that he is footing your bills and he is also your fiancé, you may as well kiss an F1 visa goodbye. He becomes a very strong tie to the US that you must overcome with a stronger tie to Nigeria. Pearl93: He said I should tell the consulate that he is my uncle and my parents sponsored him in school when things were going well. And now he is repaying back the gesture.
Do you guys think that would fly? I am really confused. I picked relative in my DS160 application. I don't want problems getting the Visa. If the VO asks why my parents are not sponsoring me this time since they paid so much for my first degree in London. This lie won't fly. The VOs by now already know that every Nigerian has an "uncle" or "aunt" somewhere. This is one of the problems with our constant lying... it becomes hard to believe anything we say, even if it were true. You both have different surnames. When you both get married and you want to get a green card, this will come back to bite you in the back. How can you now be marrying your "uncle"? You should think beyond the now. Every lie you tell now has a consequence later... it is the law of life, not your village people. Pearl93: Also, do you know any way i can apply for a graduate assistant? I don't want to put all my hopes on my boyfriend . You know how these things can turn out. Right now I have nothing but him. And it scares me that if anything goes wrong, I would be stranded. He can be a bit impatient and has a bad temper. And honestly, I am not very patient myself. Even if it's an accommodation scholarship. He wants me to live with his friend who is married. Because im not studying in the same state he lives. And I honestly don't want to do that. *sigh* This isn't Nigeria... these things require advanced planning. All graduate assistantships available would have been given to students who started in the fall, who applied as far back as last spring. |

Basically, what I’m asking is if searching for what I want on the Uni’s website will be effective? (US Uni websites always suffer from information overload , most times I resort to finding what I need about a US Uni on google! ).
Again, thanks for your response! I simply call and ask. US websites can be quite vague, I agree. |

Aphrodite007: Hi,
@Ezeigbo1ofImo @time2smile and anyone that can help.
Wow I had no idea that STEM students could get a PhD Scholarship in America, I’m utterly impressed by that! I can so relate to the pain of paying for studies while everyone is on a scholarship- We were 6 in class and I was the only one that paid a tuition, it was so painful!
I have been silently considering a PhD in the US mostly Cos my field of computing (cultural computing/user studies) is more acknowledged in the US than the UK.
So do you guys think someone with a 2.2 and merit (BSc & MSc respectively) would be considered for a scholarship. That BSc result makes me not even bother with scholarships at all, and I was honestly preparing to pay the PhD tuition until I saw your comments. God bless you guys plenty. I would be careful. Not all STEM Phds are paid for. The vast majority of paid STEM phds are in the biological sciences through NIEHS grants. I'm not sure the same is applicable to engineering phds. Also for international students, only your first year is paid. All other years are paid by your phd mentor so you should carefully choose only mentors who have adequate funding to pay for you. All that to say - do your due diligence to check if funding is available to you or not. |

jerrypeacelinks: Compliments of the season bro. Been a while. To be Frank with you, I do not know what happened to me on that day. I really felt I had a great chance as I flowed well with the VO before I suddenly went blank from no where. I went home that day and cried myself sour as I relayed my experience to my brother and friend @Mayorboi.
I am yet to defer till FALL 2018 as I do not know how best to put my words together to notify the school I was denied a visa. This is because I don't know how to ask them if the tuition waiver and free campus housing they offered me can still be available by the Fall semester.
In addition to this, does being denied an F1 visa twice (November and December) in any way have a dent on my next chance of reapplying? Cos I intend reapplying for another interview by FALL?
I will appreciate responses from you baba, from @Twoods, @Lagosismyhome and any other person who has answers to my question.
Compliments of the season handsome and beautiful people... You should do two things - defer your admission but also look to see if you can obtain admission to higher tier schools. I stand to be corrected, I have yet to see a student with admission to Yale, Harvard or Princeton turned down for a US visa. |

error4040:
i will sugest why not Go for MIS (mngt info sys) or if you can go for their professional exams it would be an added advantage. heard they dont recognise ICAN tho not 100% sure. you can further ask here. Best of luck!
www.nairaland.com/4225931/general-u.s.a-student-visa-enquiries-part Happy to discuss this on the relevant thread but just a quick note... an MIS is a complete waste of your time. You should always think about the likely jobs that your expensive degree gets you once you are done with school. With an MIS, you are no better than the thousands of Americans with similar skills and will struggle to get jobs that are willing to spend money to get you through the immigration process. |
