Anyway am sorry if it looked that way Tutor you on what exactly? You got a visa now, I guess you can now tutor others. We’ll see what your own response would be. If I may guess, we’ll likely not see you again on these boards. |

Feel free to say whatever you wish. I guess God just failed to be “at work” for the majority whose applications were denied? Or did they just pray less or fast less than you did? The proof is in the pudding buddy... majority who cry about the “Lord” end up serving him with their lips only, when things are favorable for them. It’s funny, I’ve never seen anyone who was refused come here and tell us the Lord was involved. Strange. |

Pearl93: I know this has been said before. But it worked out for me. To those looking to book tickets, best time to check is at night/ midnight. I just got a ticket for 320k. My flight is on Saturday. Other airlines had tickets for over 500k for Saturday. I picked up my passport today. Its a very stupid airline. Royal Air Maroc. I heard they don't even provide hotel accommodation. But with the extra money you would be saving on other tickets, I think it's worth it. To those looking for tickets, keep checking at night. I would be spending a few days in New York with my friends before flying to Dallas. If anyone else would be on that flight Saturday Morning, please send me a DM. Misery loves company . And this is going to be one miserable long flight. I packed a couple of good books to read. Including Dan Brown's Origin. I can share if you are pretty. It wasn't clear to me why you are telling us all these. One would think the rest of us haven't been to the US before. For someone who told us how rich and privileged she was, I wonder why you need to stay awake at night looking for cheap tickets through a "very stupid" airline. |

Oshikoya23: Hello Everyone. I have been a silent reader of this thread through my brother who has account here since 2016. I had 4.23/ 5.0 and I wanted to apply to study masters in statistics or any related course. I want funding and I read here that without good GRE I cannot get funding and I decided to use the whole 2017 to prepare and write GRE. My first GRE I got 294 which I knew I would have done better and I read here that you can have many chances if someone can get like 300. I wrote my GRE on 6th of this month again and I got 309. Please with my profile of 4.2/5.0 cgpa and 309 in gre, which school can I apply to and get funding? Thank you. You took a whole year to prep for the GRE and it did not occur to you to also check to see which schools offered your course of choice, what the admission requirements were and what the average GRE score was for typical applicants to their program? |

bigfrancis21: Same experience here. I have 4 people that applied to Bowie State University for Spring 2018 also and up till now they have not heard from them yet. The school is really messed up. The man in charge of international admissions, Mr Samuel Yego, is the main culprit here. I don't mean to be mean but the man is very incompetent, rude, lies, never replies emails nor calls etc. and I wonder why he is still in charge of admissions. I have met him on a few occasions and he always claims busy and being in the office till 8pm everyday yet nothing ever gets done. He has lied to me on several occasions that a few of the 4 people have been processed and sent for i20 production only to get to the i20 office and Mr. Yego did not send the admission file to begin with.
Another question is if he has sent your file to the department for review to begin with? This is because he emailed the 4 students on November 14 2017 that he had sent their files for departmental review and after over a month of waiting and no reply they all called their department (MIS department) on December 16 and they were told that Mr Yego had not sent their files to review for admission to begin with. Don't be surprised if he hasn't forwarded your file to the department for review to begin with. The admission list you talked about may just be the list of all those who applied to the university. When I discovered the gross incompetency and lack of awareness about time factor I was very disappointed to say the least, coming from an institution that is supposed to be in the United States. This Yego of a person is Kenyan by the way (bringing in his typical lousy African work ethic to the US).
Another thing I noticed is that they seem to be doing 'IM' in that school. They process admissions faster for those who have someone working in the school or living in Maryland.
Try calling the Provost. That seems to be the only person he answers to in the university.

To others thinking of applying to Bowie State University, beware. You just might not hear from them after applying. The downside of applying to majority black institutions where entry requirements are lax. You get what you pay for. |

@Teedawg thanks for your savage response all the same
and for those applying to Bowie State University, keep off!!!.
cheers Your response is not helpful. Keep off for what reason? US schools are not Nigerian schools, they have specific reasons for taking specific actions and they make sure that this is communicated to you in a timely manner. My guess is that you dropped the ball somewhere. Did you obtain any written communication indicating you were offered admission? No one just reads names off a list as proof of admission. |

omoyemela: [You act like you are so perfect that you don't ever make mistakes. To me that's pride. Help if you will and if not shut up haba. Nigerians this Nigerians that are you not one.
Depends on the school. Some are so competitive that they have equally excellent students on waiting lists. In addition, we Nigerians are used to simply making decisions on the fly, no plan, no respect for others plans and time. That doesn't work elsewhere. A lot of schools like to be prepped. If you can't make it on resumption day, you should have known well in advance and informed them so they can make necessary adjustments. Unless you died or fell seriously sick and thus incapacitated, you should be able to know if you can make it on orientation day or not. Take a seat son. No one is technically here to "help" you, especially when much of the "help" you claim to need is simply you just being intellectually lazy. There is no pride or acting perfect, just a fellow who is sick of the lackadaisical attitude of most Nigerians to much of anything that requires simply rubbing two brain cells together. Dropping a plate is a mistake, coming late to your orientation is not. Many of you will get a rude shock... that lateness is a habit that no one else outside of Africa tolerates. |

WAEC should send a copy of your SSCE results to your school. Your high school should also send your transcript - that would contain all classes you took all through your high school, including each grade. That is what I think they want to see. |

biikeys: DSOs (really the school) still have some role to play..such as recommending OPT-eligible students for the program in SEVIS on time before those students can apply with USCIS, determining what jobs relate to the course of study in cases in cases things are not well defined etc. If what's being looked at is the duration, then sure it's out of the control of the school for the most part. This is strange. Are you talking of OPT or CPT? |

It will most definitely be scaled back to 12 months. The OPT is not the prerogative of the school, it is a USCIS rule. |

seyewest: You will need an Immigrant Visa... I think there's an immigrant visa thread on Nairaland if you check very well and it's handle by the U.S Embassy so you have nothing to worry about. Mayorr89: Well regarding your issue..its an immigrant visa u are to aplly for (employment visa) this is a non immigrant visa thred but I will give u a little clue..first,to get a registered company to send u an invite is not so easy..and finally when u get..and u try to process ur visa..it would be so hard to convince the v.o the position u r going to occupy cannot be occupied by a u.s citizen or a lpr ..they believe there are still employment individuals in u.s. only if u have extra ordinary talents or u have a very good qualification like u studied medicine.. Nursing ..and co . all the same I wish u best of luck.. Get ur priorities right. Try as much to get the employers letter and file for an employment visa.Good luck.. Success is urs The above is flatly wrong. 1. An employment visa is not an immigrant visa. 2. A company cannot simply send you an invite, you need an approved I-797 (and other business docs) to apply for a work visa. 3. The H1B application process is where the employer is asked if the position on offer cannot be filled by a US citizen or LPR, that is not the role of the VO. 4. You CANNOT file for an employment visa by yourself. It is entirely an employer-based process. |

pappybarry: Hello Everyone. I want to first start by appreciating everyone who has sincerely contributed to this tread for I know the advice given here has gone as far as changing lives for the better.
I want to travel to the US and I need help! I have never traveled outside the shores of the country so I don't have any experience whatsoever. I'm a graduate (25yrs) with no paycheck but I'm into digital marketing. I've got a lady friend in Kentucky who has offered to send an invite / convince an employer to send a letter of employment. The company is in Oklahoma but she doesn't live there so I'd have to sort my accommodation issue if I apply based on the employment proposal.
My questions are..... Do I apply for an Immigrant visa or Non immigrant Visa? Do I stand a chance considering my family would be sponsoring the trip? In fact, I'm clueless as to going about the whole thing. People, I need you guys to help advice me on what type of visa best suit my situation.
All questions would be entertained, I'm looking forward.. Thanks Fam! Unfortunately much of the advice you received was wrong. People should not offer advice if they are not very sure... 1. You cannot, by yourself, apply for a visa to go and work in the US. The company wishing to employ you needs to file an H1B work visa for you. Only after this has been approved and you have a hard copy of the I-797B can you then apply for an H1B visa to the US. Note, the H1B visa is strictly a non-immigrant visa. Albeit, it is considered to be dual-purpose so your company can then file for permanent residency for you once you are now in the US. This is a lengthy and expensive process that requires more than just an invitation letter. 2. I notice in one of your responses that you indicate that the job offer is not specialized... if that is the case, the H1B application is more than likely going to be denied, as it is only required for specialized skills. Bottom-line, you have next to zero chance of getting an H1B visa, find other means to go to the US. |
