Bro Change your ways to enjoy life ...Be friendly!!!.
Mind You without this thread, and Nairaland as a whole , There are a lot out there that are getting there way into the states to study . .. ...Which automatically means without you Anyone/everyone can get their way into the states to study.! let me be blunt, you are absolutely right that a lot of folks do not need nairaland to study in the US. I didn’t. Most of those people are largely the smarter members of the population, who have excellent university grades, know how to research for themselves, are not seeking to avoid standardized tests and know who to contact should they have questions. Those who are overly dependent on this forum are sadly the unintelligent, for whom school is simply a means to immigrate and nothing more. These are the people who are forever “new here”, have zero idea what schools or majors to choose, overly reliant on “Nigerians there” to answer simple questions that college coordinators are paid to answer with clarity. These people are often insecure about themselves, so they hide here to ask questions that their inferiority complex prevents them from asking their school directly. These are also the people who easily get offended when you make suggestions to them. Dude.... I have a nice life (not that I need to tell you), you’re the one still desperately seeking visas. My advice is that you take what you can get from here, use it wisely and enjoy your life. |

Delta007: Fair enough, but this is simplistic at best. However, I believe that the argument is that the UK immigration laws currently provide limited (or no) levers/options that a foreign grad can exercise; so going to the UK as a foreign student is not the best deal given other options out there.
The stats show that over 90% (I believe the number I saw was 97%) of foreign students (not just Nigerian students) leave the UK after their studies. Compare that to the retention rates in the US or Canada. Isn't this the crux of this thread, no? Take care to read my comments in entirety before responding next time. You and I agree on the same thing. My point is simple - this thread could have been avoided if people paid attention to existing immigration laws. It’s not rocket science that the UK expects you to go home after your education, they do not owe you permanent residence or a job, so why apply there in the first place of immigration is your intent? Calling my position, which is essentially the same as yours, simplistic, is evidence you haven’t been paying attention at all... |

EloquentMedia: He will gradually self-destruct. The more he criticizes the more these men rise higher and higher achieving great things for God and humanity. One day you will just hear, he has killed himself as he could no longer take it What exactly are they achieving? Fame, money and the honor of men? Is that what the apostles lived and died for? |

Yankee101: You do not understand branding then.
That signboard is targeted at non christians or non committed christians.
The first sign of any religious word will turn them off automatically. But immediately you walk into house on the rock, it is all about Jesus. But the idea is to draw you in with dazzle.
Go and study Marketing 101 and stop running your mouth because you gained relevance by critisizing church tithe. When did Jesus become about branding? When something no longer has the power to convict, the power to heal, the power to raise the dead, essentially the power of the Holy Ghost, it resorts to gimmicks like branding. Shame. |

I wil appreciate if you stop replying abeg. If you do not like responses, perhaps you should invent a blog? The problem with Nigerians is that they are absolutely immune to being helped. Good luck to you. Your responses sound absurd... which is easier - send an email to your program coordinator/call and get an answer direct from source or waste your time begging for the contacts of someone you’ve never met, who may not even be able to help? Lol I often feel like I lose a brain cell or two around here. |

Charlise: I didn't ask him for the instructions, I go to the school page everyday, I have the graduate catalog downloaded on my phone, soo plsss don't respond like I don't know what am doin. I just needed to talk to someone in the schl to knw how soon they responds. When I applied on the schl page I noticed that instead of august fall session, they only have summer A and summer B which is April and may/June left for 2018 session. That was why I needed a student there and mostly because I notice that Norfolk is hardly mentioned here. If you got to the school website everyday and you have the catalog downloaded to your phone, you likely must have seen contact information for your program. Use the number or email address. They will respond to you. The person you wish to ask will never have anything better than hearsay information. |

I just got admitted into Steven Institute of Technology New Jersey, for Masters programme.
However nothing was stated about asisstantship or scholarship which I applied for in the letter.
I wish to know if I will be informed about assistantship opportunity after accepting the offer as I was told to accept the offer or otherwise in 30 days or I have to write them to ask for it.
I might not be able to attend the school without it as the tuition is quite high.
Thank for reasonable contribution. Call them. Ask. |

I need to know how long it takes to get a response after applying, i already have wes evaluated transcript and I need to know if they admit for summer or all is til fall? Thanks It is unclear to me why you need to contact a Nigerian student at your prospective school when you can easily ask the program directly? The information you’re asking is likely to be clearly posted on the program website. It just smacks of inferiority complex, like we are somehow afraid to ask Americans direct questions, preferring to hide behind the coattails of fellow Nigerians. It took me less than half a minute to find the web page... Norfolk State accepts applications for fall and spring admissions. The deadlines are clearly spelled out on the web. How did you apply for admission without thoroughly reading the instructions? |

Aphrodite007: The part about 2 meals is to stress how hard nigeria has become and why anyone that plans to leave doesn’t want to return until they are set up. It was (obviously) not meant to insinuate that people that can’t afford to eat can afford 8M.
It’s all about reading in between the lines. Is this clearer now? You’re welcome! As Nigerians, we don’t have the luxury of summarily deciding if we want to return to our country or not. That’s a choice made by the host nation. We can cry from now till next year. Next time, read the rules, plan. |

Aphrodite007: Oh please zip it both of you! Erico2k2! I am having a happy day and have zero tolerance for this!
All the people that left for Canada, Aus, US and Germany, didn’t they promise to return to Nigeria? Did they return?
You guys are so selfish. You’ve got your own lives set up in the UK and instead of helping your fellow youths make better decisions, you insist on advising them to burn 8M for just a degree. This is why we probably don’t need the youths leading Nigeria, you guys are so mean and don’t want any other person to progress other than yourselves!
You both have admitted the difficulty in getting jobs in the UK but are cool with people spending their inflated and undervalued naira on education. People are literally begging for food in Nigeria, they can’t afford 2 meals anymore and instead of commending the OP you are making noise!
One day, nobody will be there to advise you when you need suggestions for life dependent decisions! Nobody! This is more evidence you simply respond without thinking. Nothing you attributed to me above is true... no surprise you wasted millions on an education without planning for tomorrow. 1. I don’t live in the UK. I made that abundantly clear yesterday. 2. At no point have I insisted that anyone waste money on an education anywhere. I’ve simply made the point that people take time to PLAN BEFORE embarking on any major endeavor. Research immigration laws (if your intention really is to immigrate), job market, your potential employer prospects, how your proposed school (and degree in view) stacks up with competitors with respect to your future employer, whether there is funding available (I always advocate never paying for school where scholarships and fellowships are available) etc. Anyone who did the above (and it really doesn’t require rocket science) would never choose the UK as a study destination. You failed to do so, now you’re looking for a scapegoat to blame. Too often many here are so focused on just “being abroad” that they do not stop to think through and formulate a workable plan that gives them the best return on investment. Crying after the fact is amusing to me. |

erico2k2: They all know.it is said at the interview and they swear to return after study . Evenn the OP did same but here we are! Exactly my point. We all know that the basis for granting a non immigrant visa is the acknowledgment that we intend to return to our home country after the duration of the program. As you’ve rightly said, even the OP and his/her minions heard and agreed to the condition so who is fooling who with the crocodile tears now? |

Having been a silent reader here, I just want to know if I stand a chance with the VO and can be seen as a genuine student that I am.
Maryland that I'm waiting on actually don't offer GT or scholarship for the course I desire. It's just that UM is a bigger school and closer to been Ivy league. Heimdall: You are right when you've talked about lack of planning but is it now wrong to start a thread aimed at opening the eyes of fellow "clueless" Nigerians. We still have people on this same thread saying things like "why didnt you apply earlier" or "its because you didnt study this course". So we're saying why will you carry all that money to UK only to return immediately after, when there are other countries you can go to. Hence the topic of the thread "...Leave UK alone" My point is that those who claim to be smart enough to get foreign degrees should also be smart enough to count the cost before putting a hand on the plough. The consequence is not the fault of anyone else. |
Travel › Re: Nigerians - Leave The UK (United Kingdom) ALONE!!! by TWoods(m): 10:19pm On Feb 26, 2018 |
Heimdall: Point exactly! Now you know this! Would you, with you church mind, still advice someone to go to UK, spend all that money and tell them "oh dont worry you might get a job" when you know the chances of that are slim to none??
This info is out there but for some reason we find that people are still going to UK with the hope that they'll find a way to stay behind. Lets clear their doubt. Make them realise it isn't going to happen.
I hope you get it.
Cheers In the grand scheme of things, how many prospective students read these threads? If they aren’t deterred by clear immigration rules, neither will they listen to your epistles according to lamentations here. The problem isn’t that the rules aren’t clear, it’s that we all think we are so special that God will come down and break rules for just us... I mean “our case is different” no? |

erico2k2: Least we forget.the UK schools are under no obligation to get you work or advice you of life after school . That's the duty of the home office and the Labour mkt . So I dont think the Universities would do that . Rather that point of you getting VISA is where they should put it and I dare say they DO . So anyone coming here should put this at the bck of their minds there might be no JOBS after your education . My point in a nutshell |

LaudableXX: Sir, you are the one turning yourself into an aggrieved contortionist in your bid to defend the UK govt policies, mindlessly. All the rest of us are doing, is to ensure that the same policy is laid bare in clear terms, to those who want to come and study in the UK. It needs to be repeated with real-life examples, so that those who are about to take this step, can realise that better alternatives exist in other countries, and vote accordingly for what suits them. So why are you still wailing? Any Nigerian student who still votes to study in the UK, after reading through this entire thread and seeing the opportunities elsewhere, needs to see a shrink. This thread is one long lament from you. My point is that we wouldn’t need to cry if we simply engaged our brains. |
