italo: While I'm not excusing immoral behaviour...let us look at this little example: St Maximillian Kolbe gave himself in ransom to be executed in place of another man at the concentration camp in Auschwitz. Let us imagine that Maximillian (who was a priest) had abused the same man as a child previously; would you still maintain that no good can counter-balance that evil?
oga, leave maxmilian alone oh! He is one of my patron and i really dont like u draging his name into this mud even to make a valid point. I think i understand ur point though, while it is totally wrong to sin and i don't avocate it, i do agree that evil can always be counterbalance with Good.

Lol, this one was funny, i wanted to know about the specific behaviour that repulse you!
achina boy: there is nothing so special,it`s the type of things u hear every day,,but why it really made me mad,was the kind of respect i had for those on white and the people around them, and these respect also made me to join the sect, thinking that it is for God`s people and for holly people, because i wanted to be holly,i wanted to be a man of God,i wanted to be an instrument for God,but i was disappointed a long the line,,and let me point this out,,these people got no regard for any poor fellow,,,,,,it`s difficult for me to explain because am not making any point, but to make my point shot,,,,my experience as a seminarian and how i felt was like,,,,if u are a man,and u look up to your dad,,and you wants to be like your day,,and suddenly u saw ur dad crying because ur mama beats him,, just manage my explanation
it seems u entered the seminary not to look unto God but to look at man, no?

Kay 17: @Ubenedictus
These New Testament verses clearly approve of slavery and must have been the verses the slave masters used to justify the trans altantic slave trade.
i saw your post and couldnt help noticing 1 cor 7:21-23 it says
where u a slave when called? Never mind. But if you can gain your freedom, avail yourself the opportunity. For he who was called in the lord as a slave is a freedman of the Lord. Likewise he who was free when called is a slave of christ. You have been bought with a price; do not become slaves of men
these verses showed the xtian atitude to slaves as recorded in the bible
1. If u are slave and can redeem urself, do so.
2. If u cant redeem urself that doesnt remove nothing from your eternal salvation/redemption.
3. A christian slave can practice his faith even under such conditions.
4. Even while d institution of d world calls them slaves, they are freemen in christ.

These show that while freedom is preferable and to be sought after, a christian who lived in the days of slavery could practice their faith.
The NT verses u cited aren't endorsement for slavery but a guide for slaves who are christians on how to live their christian lives even in their condition.
If you really wish to get a biblical perspective of slavery then read d book of philemon.

And hey people are gonna use the bible to justify anything they wish that doesnt mean the bible says so and more interesting is d fact that d slavery recorded in d bible was regulated if d slave masters were interested in using scripture to justify their practice then it stands to reason that the slavers must and should follow d guidlines of scriptures wen it comes to treatment of slaves, history has it that they didnt! They simply used d bible as a blanket for their crimes.
Peace.

Kay 17: Logicboy and truthlight, pls stop derailing my thread! Ubenedictus, what do you have to say about this OP?
u would find my comments about the Op in the 1st and 2nd pages. While regulated slavery might sit in d OT as an acceptable practice, homosexuality on d other hand is condemn by both OT and NT as sin, a perversion of human sex.uality. When d sin tag is sustained by both testaments no amount of liberalism can remove d tag. Homosexuality is contrary to Gods plan for life.

I can bet that over 60% of catholic clergy including reverend fathers and nuns are s.exual deviants. I believe a 100% of strict adherents(Yes, I said strict. That they don't marry does not mean they don't engage in s.exual activity) It's not possible that one would refuse nature without consequences. And the few who are are still straight, I can reason they remain straight because they engage in s.exual affairs with the opposite sex. That has got to be the only way they manage to maintain some s.exual sanity.

The church will go through a great time of suffering in the hands of the anti-pope (false prophet) and his cohort. The truth will be suppressed and the holy mass will be banned, but Jesus will come with his victory at the end. According to revelation 13, there will be two beasts. in our modern time, these two beasts have been foretold to be a certain Antipope and Antichrist to rule the world soon.

Delusional
my friend i've been on d thread for a long time, u just have to go back to see my post, i didnt just come here becos i take pleasure in attacking your person 'cos i dont. And also have no lie to tell on this issue, the OT allows a specific range of slavery d trans atlantic slave part isnt one of them. Prisoners of war and indentured servitude were d main types of slavery d OT allowed. In a word it was regulated and injuring a slave simply means freeing him. That isnt what d trans-atlantic slave masters did.
Sorry if u think i'm attacking ur person but i have notice that behaviour i.e ur ability to have a good discussion and ur ability to turn one upside down by taging ur 'opponent' with an uncharitable words. And check again my points on slavery is point on.

elampiro: Those fellow Christians celebrating the scandal in the Catholic church should watch it. It is the devil that is about to take over the world and persecute Christians all over. The devil has for decades trained and planted his apostles in the Vatican. They have been the once advocating for ordination of women, married priests, same sex marriage, abortion, etc. They grew in number and confidence over the years, and were sure to soon capture the papacy (position of the Pope). They encouraged their men to cause maximum scandals so that they can one day use it as a weapon to ruin the church and as an excuse to change the teachings. These things have been ongoing, there has been a struggle going on in the Vatican, but Pope John Paul II handled them so firmly during his time- he stamped his authority more over the evil sects and suppressed them.

When these evil people are able to get their man into the papacy, he will align with the evil one world order and force all nations and government into their agenda. All sexual sins will be pronounced not be sins again. Any church or anyone who teaches otherwise will face prosecution for going against the law. That is why they are legalising gayism, abortion, etc. Once the Catholic church is captured, it will be the beginning of the end of Christianity as we know it today. Everyone will have to go with the one world religion led by the false prophet and Antichrist. The false prophet will be the head of the one world religion, he will point to the Antichrist as the king of the world. The Antichrist will also be enthrone as the head of the one world government. What will are witnessing now are events already long prophesied in the Catholic realm. They MUST happen. Whether we will get to see one last good Pope is what I cannot say. But it is obvious the devil is already having his hour.

Just my little contribution based on what I knew already for years now.
calm down dear, the scandals wont end d church and if any man of sin ever sits in d vatican then b sure he will b an anti pope usurping d pope.

plaetton: Has the catholic church been a force for good?
This was a recent debate on BBC.
Am quite sure this type of debate goes in public and private discussions everyday.
In recent decades, there is hardly a month that goes by without one scandal or another erupting from either the hallowed marbled chambers of the vatican or from the quite sanctums of a remote parish, or another.

In all human affairs, scandals and and scandalous behaviours are nothing new. What makes the scandals relating the catholic church mouth-watering and appetizing has much to do with What the catholic church is, and what they stand for(or say they stand for ).

In the not too distant past, the Catholic church was the most powerful institution in the whole world. The power of the pope, the cardinals, the bishops and priest were comparable to the power of emperors, kings and princes.
As the oldest organized religious denomination, it is, infact ,the mother of all christian denominations and sects.
As the grand shepherd of 1.2 billion faithful followers, the catholic church has been the most influential author, definer , and in recent past, the enforcer of earthly moral behaviour.

It appears, true to what many have always suspected, that behind all that facade of holiness, purity and high morality, are average human beings, under the camouflage of religious authority, doing the same immoral, hedonistic, greedy and selfish acts that most humans always do.

We see now that the final veils are being lifted off the sanctimonious hypocrisy of this stale institution. The centre can no longer hold.
The chicken is coming home to roost.

As we hear of priestly se.xual abuse scandals from nearly every corner of the world, we can only wonder and imagine just how many children have been se.xually molested by the prefects of this institution, unabashed, over the past 2000 years.

interesting posts. As d scandals show i think some priest or in theory all priest should b treated in a sense as hypocrites, Jesus teaching is right on point "do as they say but not as they do".
In a rather sameful chain of event, infact all through d centuries for 2000yrs the church has shown that she is simply a devine institution with human members and as such sin abound.
I only know one perfect church where what is taught is what is alway done, and that church is d church in heaven.
As far as earth is concerned all we have are stewards, unworthy vessels of divine truth. And while i see d scandals it reminds me that no one is impecable and that plaetton who writes d post against d scandal also has his own sins.
The church has never said her member or priests are the most holy in d world, infact the church repeats in d words of her master Jesus christ "d scandal must come but woe unto him through whom it does" but she maintains her function to teach moral, and to teach that thru christ d moral laws can b followed and finally that God is ready to forgive d repentant sinner. She teaches d truth of God even though those who claim to b catholics do not alway practice such truth.
GOOD POST plaetton. Let judgement begin from the house of God.

lagerwhenindoubt: The Press can be sensational and overly partisan when it comes to news that sells. but we must ask those hard questions, trickles of news of Gay priests and acts of molestation abound.. who knows what will happen if that hole is opened up just a bit. We can deny and makes excuses for isolated cases not forming a norm or generality in what is revered (worldwide) as a top-notch Christian Institution.. such incidents tend to have a deeper, closely-guarded cans-o-worms.

Apathy is not what is needed as seen throughout this thread.. asking those questions and probing further is what is required. if the institution is strong, it won't fall to criticism or probes, if it is found wanting, then you do not have to reason to far as to why the Pope will quit over such an issue.
After-all, He is God's Messenger here on Earth, he is no longer a private figure, he is public and a negative image of Christianity is not a light issue.
this is an interesting line you took here, there have been cases of pedophilia rattling around since as far as d 1970s, studying d pattern shows that d pedophiles particularly targetted children of same sex, in clear terms, male priest with male children, making d whole case a bit suprising, what many call pedophilia may just be homosexuals targeting what seem like easier prey. In parts of europe and america the cases are more frequent. All these discoveries were made by research/inquiry teams many sponsored by the catholic church. While there seems to b an increase rate of pedophilia even outside d church, d church standing as a teaching of morals makes d issue more toxic for her. The truth is if benedict was afriad to deal with d situation he would have resigned at least 2yrs ago. Infact the scandals tune down and were on their way to end wen his resignation seem to bring d whole issue back to limelight.
My point is, if benedict was scared of gay priest he wouldnt be retiring now, he would have retired years ago. His pontificate was filled with scandals and crisis managment but i think it is unfair to his person to posit that he ran away becos of an report that has alway been there that d pedophiles may infact b gay.

Catholic church was started by emperor constatine, at first the people of rome refused to abandon their pagan tradition for christainity thats why constatine had to introduce all these statues and cermonies to make them accept it and preserve their tradition. The romans worshiped the sun , so they changed sabath day from saturday to Sun-day. If u re a catholic during benediction just look at the type of cross the preist holds up, the cross and the rays of the sun fused together.
Paganism and christainity fused together. Why !? Am not telling u to beleive me. Do your research , MY PEOPLE PERISH FOR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE.
