Gamine:Yup, completion. Like I told u confession is held in very high esteem by the catholic church that it is grouped as a sacrament. And sacraments , my dear, include Baptism, Holy communion, Matrimony (marriage) and even preistly ordinations. All of them requires the services of the priest at some point in time. Lets take Marriage for instance. U and ur fiancee would have started all the procedures and commitment even before the priest/pastor starts asking you about those for better or for worse vows. U should have made all those decision all by urself , in ur room or watever, but because it is such a big occasion in ur spritual life u need to have it presided over and brought to completion by a priest. Otherwise , u guys are never married, no matter how many times u say I do in comfort of ur bedroom. That is also the way the Catholic church sees the Sacrament of Penance. It is a huge occasion in ur spiritual life. |
Gamine:And that is also the belief of the Catholic church. And to digress a little bit, some poster made a remark about the Catholic church not believing in Hell. Can someone educate me on that plis ![]() |
Gamine:I think u got the wrong impression rite there. The catholic church believes that Confession is a sacrament , and like most other sacraments are adminstered by the priest. This is backed by the quotations given by imhotep. But just like all the other sacraments it does not depend on the adminstrator (Priest) for it to be recieved properly but depends on the recipient of the sacrament. Now before u even go to a confession, u should have spent at least 15 minutes going over them and actually confessing and being contrite for them. So even before u go to the Priest u should have started the act of Penace urself. The Priest only helps you (that is why he is a priest) to bring it to completion. |
That is completely bothersome, I mean the role China is playing in Darfur. While I am in support of any measures that would make China to yield to the voice of reason, I do not think that boycotting the Olympics would bring China to review its role in Darfur or even Tibet for that matter. |
coolfunke:The caveat is dat one surgery leads to another. |
DRANOEL:Hpw can u distort facts of history like that The Jews had started coming back to the Holy Land as far back as 1492 and the number rose steadily in the event of thier expellation from Spain. This even predates the British mandate of Palestine after World war 1 |
Nti ga anu ihe, anaghi aha ka okpu ata. (A big ear does not mean an attentive ear) |
I thot we Igbos had it all in terms of food until I jam one calabar girl for undergrad. Ol boy leave matter The kain menu menu wey I enjoy for skool no be small thin |
combrazor:Ok, maybe I am not being clear enough. In 1995, 10 movies might be released a week. Out of that 10, u would have prolly 5 very good ones with good story lines. Nowadays, 200 movies would be released a week and u can barely pick out 20 good ones. I wont really be too excited about that kind of progress. |
combrazor:Wow!! I knew they have been there a long time ago, but I honestly don't realize it has been that long. Well, if u are talking about the number of home movies churned out , then yeah the industry have quadrupuled. But in terms of content , there is very little progress made especially when u put it in the context of the number of movies released into the market. |
Beats me, too |
Ur opinion. On a lighter note, may I ask why. A good movie is a good movie. I dont mind the genre. I watch all kinda of stuff. The only ones I dont enjoy are horror movies. |
[quote author=combrazor link=topic=121236.msg2075658#msg2075658 date=1206019907 (for one thing, South Africa actually has a *film* industry while Nigeria has a *video* market)[/quote]I agree with u on that point. However, the proceeds and experience from the "video market" if managed well can be used to kick off an enviable film industry. I aint saying that we should have been ahead of SA but it is not out of place if we use them as a standard. Given the personnel we have in both the academic and commercial sector of the Arts industry, what South Africa achieved should not be intimidating.Nollywood is more than a decade old and it is still stagnant in terms of quality , concept and depth. I believe that is what the poster is trying to say. |
jkpretty:U are not alone in that thought. @ Mrs Lurker I will take ur word for it. Its gonna be Notebook for me this weekend. |
Can somebody give me an example of a good "oyibo" romance flick. I have mentioned three and iicee and D-r agreed it was wack. My opinion , too. When it comes to thrillers tho, I prefer "Oyibo made". ![]() |
combrazor:I dont really think it is out of place for the Nigeria film industry to aspire for something here. We are not talking about some country here like Niger or Benin. It is Nigeria. I know we have our problems , plenty of them, but we have shown it times without number that given the right environment we tend to excel in all that we do. Amidst all the wackiness that exist in Nollywood, u can still see some talented artistes, scriptwrites and producers. The potential is there and I wont be surprised if one day some Nigerian films translates into a world wide success. It is already a success at least in West Africa. |
Thanks!!! I always have favored African American romance flicks. U wont catch me watching "There is sth about mary, Heartbreak kid or Wedding planner a second time. It is always kind of cheesy to me. |
Hahahahahahaha But iice , is it not pass ur bedtime ![]() |
Maybe I am just a sucka. But I loved those movies. Love and Basketball, Lov Jones, Disappearing acts , The Brothers (that one was hilarious), Brown suga. I really loved those. And there was one that also had Nia Long, Sanaa Lathan (lets just say I |
Oke anwa kwa na anwa takaa akpa nwa dibia . Nwa dibia anwa kwa na anwa buwe oke onu. ( The native doctor shold not starve the rat in his shrine just as the rat is not expected to eat up the native doctor's bag Bottom line : Live and let live) |
Oke soro ngwere maa mmiri, oko ngwere, ogahi oko oke (A rat that joins a lizard in a swimming spree would still be suffering from pneumonia long after the lizard has dried and tanned up. Bottomline : Know your capabilities and limitations) |
Aka aja aja na ebute onu mmanu mmanu ( i hope i am making sense ) |
D-reloaded:Or prolly the only ones that come her way. Whatever, I still think she is an amazing actress. |
Chi |
combrazor:A lot, my brother. A whole lot. If we were once known as a the giant of Africa and the Nollywood industry is increasing in leaps and bounds (in quantity at least) then I would say , a lot. |
JayFK:U are absolutely rite (but I wonder who is in charge of writing those of President Bush Anyway, having a Prof. writer does not have a racial connotation. It is just acceptable protocol in the lives of public figures. |
poke:I suggest u turn to Nwando for advice. She has all the low down on Naija/Americana marriage ![]() |
Outstrip:Along those lines, Disappearing acts that featured Wes Snipes and Sanaa Lathan is also one of my all time favourites. |
babycool:Wetin u expect? A nite out @ Sheraton ? ![]() |
