Kobojunkie:Slavery is a social-economic system under which certain persons — known as slaves — are deprived of personal freedom and compelled to perform labour or services @ Kobo, Is it just me or do u always tend to misconstrue or generalise terms. How does the tale of the rich man and the poor guy relate to slavery. He is working to pay off his debt , within a specified amount of time. Technically, he is earning a living. How does to relate to the kidnapping of the black man from the continent of Africa and sold to work on plantations because that was all they were supposedly good for. And again u are trying to tie up prejudice and instinct onto one apron. Thos words are not the same. Instincts elicit a biological response (tho sometimes u might be unaware of it) like adrenaline rush or sth. Prejudice does not have anything to do with that. It is purely a pre concieved idea based on other people's experiences, facts , opinions or even hear say. U dont need social contacts to develop ur instinct. It is a congenital thing. However, social contact play a huge role in defining what is good or bad and in turn defines our prejudices. |
Still dont want to confuse intuition with prejudice. Anyways, U guys have a gd nite. |
4 Play:Well, the real question is "were all the young men proclaimed guilty cos of the fact that "most young men carry knives". That to me is where the prejudice comes in. The police man was just acting on facts available to him and everbody does that from time to time. |
Kobojunkie:So? Faculty of knowing or sensing . Those are key words. For prejudice, u dont know. U just have a pre concieved opinion based on other people's opinions, experiences or preferences. U dont need that in the case of intuition or it wont be intuition, innit? |
4 Play:Well in that context U maybe right. Maybe I should put my question this way : All prejudices might be built on pre concieved opinions but are all pre concieved opinions considered as "prejudice" Cos in the example above, I dont see anybody being discriminated against. |
Kobojunkie:I am still having problems relating the word intuiton to another form of prejudice. Intuition is like having a 6th sense and should not be confused with prejudice. |
Kobojunkie:I can't hold brief for what is obtainable in Saudi Arabia but if u are asking me if it is right to discriminate against the gay people , my reply is no. If I subscribe to it, my reply is once again no. In the first "NO", I am exercising my belief of live and let live. In the second "NO", I am just stating my preferences. |
Good prejudice, ehhmmmm, like ________ ![]() |
Kobojunkie:Justice is a relative term and , if u look at the history of man, it is also very time dependent. |
debosky:Definitely, not. It is preferences like u said and as long as it remains personal then it is all good, I guess. But the truth of the matter is that it does not always reamain personal. U make a personal decision, before long it becomes a family decision and gradually with time it becomes a societal decision. A personal preference that one made "I will never marry a flat nosed chick " now gradually becomes a decision of the whole community. Hitler made a decision and soon it became the mission statement of the Nazi. |
I had always cringed with the thot of the white man and the enslavement of blacks due to color until I joined Nairaland. It taught me one thing : Racism is not a preserve of the white man. It is just basal human nature to be like that be them white or black. We are all Nigerians but we are also fighting our own kind of discrimination in the name of tribalism and nepotism. I honestly think that if the tables were reversed and the black man's world was suddenly the most advanced and civilised the story would still remain the same. The only change would be the race which is at the recieving, in this case the white man. Would the human race overcome racism? Maybe if , 1) From an evolution point of view, that we evolved to a more higher and intelligent being that is somehow blind to aesthetics of the eyes but more perceptive to that of the mind. As far as Homo sapiens is concerned, a cute face is better than an ordinary face. Tall is fine but short is evil. Rich is good and You are damned if u are poor.As long as we are still operating with these kind of parameters ,then it would only be wishful thinking for racsim to go away. 2) From a religious point of view, the second coming of Christ ( or whoever You are waiting for) |
funkybaby:Surgeon + Lagos + 38 = Heart breaks just wondering how reached that conclusion |
mukina2:Is that ur opinion or a general consensus. I no dey vex. Just kidding. How I go begin vex for my wife naw ![]() |
@ topic Plis , how short is short? I though that was a relative term (that is except if u are talking about a midget) ![]() |

Sky Blue:Ur argument would be entirely right, if not for the fact that those people who are charged with the task of Nation building both at the local and federal level are very corrupt. Even the populace have taken corruption as a normal way of life. Public funds are meant to be squandered. It would take a whole lot to institute the culture of accountability into our politicians. Even the populace have to undergo series of re orientation to disabuse thier minds from "biziness" as usual. That my friend is a daunting task. Not impossible but really daunting and would take a looong time. I really believe that the region of the country that makes the bulk of the Nation's revenue should be the one benefitting most from the revenue. But simply giving more money to this region( a la thier politicians ) would unfortunately not solve the problems of the Niger Deltans. It would not solve the youth problems in the ND, it would not build roads or schools in the villages. Nor would it bring constant electricity to the rural areas. It would just be another avenue for a bunch of politicians to get richer at the expense of those the money was actually meant for. |
Nigeria is in a mess. Prior 1966, we had infrastructures laid down that guaranteed the North was producing pyramids of ground nuts while the South have plantations of Palm Oil. To the best of my knowledge , not even a blue print exists in any of the states to develop thier own revenue. Most states have been are still being milked dry by the politicians. My local government chairman is doing nothing in terms of developing his purview. Money comes in from the state government and he just gulfs it down with his cohorts. I believe that is almost the same story with most local government. I would not even advocate increasing the allocation given to MY local government. It only means more money for the local politicians and more misery for the man on the street. Until people are made to have the fear of the law any solution would just be a cosmetic one. Just changing tunes. |

Giving money to the Niger Delta wont solve any issue. There are politicians on ground waiting to wolf down the money even in niger delta. The problem we have is not that of allocation , it is actually that "how much of the allocated money is actually being put into use". I just have to agree with Kobo. If politicians can be cured of the urged to dip hands into public funds, then we would have solved half of our problems. As long as corruption is still rife, allocating a huge percentage to the Niger Delta area is a mere change of baton from federal politicians to state politicians. I still remenber the NDDC case. |
bawomolo:None. But then that does not mean that they dont. Hacve U ever heard of the dark side of the CIA. It is neither a tale nor a myth. |
LMAO No wonder there is no grandpa. Just grannie ![]() |
So how come they took u for a female in the first place U have ur sex displayed in ur profile or was it something u did after u supposedly recieved love letters .Wasup, Muki. Be expecting my love letter soon. Hope u dont go and have a sex change ![]() |
LadyT:LMAO And how does that make u any wiser ? ![]() |
@ Yemi U must be kidding, right ![]() |
@bg Except in cases where the man in question has a warped way of thinking and a warped sense of humor then dishing out ur keys to a girlfriend means u trust her and would be willing to go the extra mile with her. It does not actually guarantee exclusivity but it sure does portend one. Even if the man wants to be wayward he would reserve some respect for the lady by taking his biziness somewhere else. Now there are exceptions and like I said the exceptions mostly come from the warped-minded. I assume b4 U give out ur keys a lot of water would have gone under the bridge especially bed wise. Now unless U go around dishing ur keys to every Nkechi, Iyabo and Fatima that u just met, wat other ulterior motives could u possibly have by giving ur keys to a girl that U have been rollicking with already ![]() |
morenike09:Oh my gosh!!! I have actually being asked that one. ![]() And my answer was , No, I boarded the airplane naked in Africa and bought some clothes when I got to New york. That left them mouth gaping , I don't know if it is in disbelief or in amazement but one thing was that I never got those kind of questions from them again. |
For a nigerian, u do really have a lot of misgivings for ur own people. As far as almondjoy is concerned what good can come out of Nigeria and dat my dear is a very negative opinion. |
his_grace:LMAO. Of course the conclusion might be wrong but that is the impression she is giving. Have u ever thought of the fact that she might just be tagging along with you while waiting for her Prince Charming. Thats another possiblity |
almondjoy:Agreed. But my point is dat it did not help her cause. Of course, people would sympathize with her initially but with time the the sympathy would gradually give way to taunts. Trust our naija women. She would be known in gossip rings as the woman who can not keep her man in the house. And plis almondjoy , coolu temper u should know wat i am talking about |
his_grace:I think ur situation is different here. In nailijah's case I think the interest is mutual and equivalent with respect to both parties. However, I cant say the same for ur case. It seems the girl still have some doubts over her relationship with you. |
I think funkybabe and Zheroes have really said it all. And the pieces of advice from funky kind of make me think she has been in that situation before cos she is absolutely rite. Dont abuse the right of keys handed over to u (lol) Bottom line is dat no matter what anybody says, it takes a whole lot for a man hand over the entrance of his abode to a chic. It means he is ready to take the relationship one level higher. He has made a statement ;it is left for u to make him not to regret that statement. |
