Stop comparing US system with Nigeria just to deodorize criminality. I live in the United States and have been voting in election, what happened on SaturdayFeb 25, 2023 can never happen in USA.

Second, are you Yoruba?

UncommonLogic:
The system is flawed because you lost. You are barking down the wrong tree.
Even the US system is not perfect after more than 200 years of trying. We have many losers in the US right now claiming that they won. Trump is their leader.

Why are you seeking half measures? Just demand for Yoruba independence from Nigeria so that any non-Yoruba in Oduduwa Republic will know outright that he's a foreigner and not entitled to full rights like Yoruba citizens. As long as we remain "One Nigeria" , which Yorubas fought for and killed Igbos in the Biafra War, your desires are figment of imagination of a demented soul.

Yamiriflathead:
grin
Although disappointing
Tinubu tried to hold Lagos with the figures he pulled so far. Lagos is the Capital of Southern Nigeria, so what were you expecting?
This was a fight between ibos+SS+woke yorubas against Tinubu supporters in Lagos who are mainly yorubas and maybe Hausas in Lagos.

I hope Tinubu and yorubas have learnt a bitter lesson from Lagos Elections not to befriend and feed a cub because it is homeless, hopeless, and dying. It will grow up and eat u up someday.

I'm happy yorubas can now sit down and ask qtns as to how they got everything wrong and redress it with BAT as President.

The take home from this defeat is..

Yorubas need to stop drafting non yorubas into the civil service and stop giving them prominent appointments. There are always technocrats who can always fit into any political office from the SW

Yorubas need to stop selling their lands to non yorubas in Lagos and SW

Yorubas need to stop giving out local government of origins to non yorubas in Lagos

Yorubas need to stop allowing non-yorubas contest for Elections in Lagos or SW

Yorubas need limit the numbers of voters registration of non yorubas going on in Lagos, they care so much about Lagos and don't care if their homes rot, Henceforth let them go home and vote. They can't come and dictate to you on how to govern urselves after creating an enabling environment for them to thrive.

Contain them politically, Period!

Congratulations to the incoming President of Nigeria BAT the ASIWAJU of Lagos for winning the most Free and fair Elections since our Nascent Democracy nothwitstanding
PoliticsRe: Late Risers?? Were The Igbos Right About Breaking Up In The 60s? by Uchek(m): 3:01pm On Feb 19, 2023
ABSOLUTELY! IGBOS WERE RIGJT.

Zuha:
I am not Igbo. I had to start like this before the very heavy tribalism in Nairaland creeps into this thread and attack me for what I am about to say.

I have been looking at the various events in Nigeria from the year of independence till today and it got me thinking. In the 60s when there was violence in the North with killings of southerners (mainly Igbos), the government of the day had the same attitude as GEJ's government today. In Nairaland and all across Nigeria, the echoes of break-up has been growing louder by the day.

My question hence is: Were the Igbos right in attempting to break up in the 60s? Are we all late risers by waiting more than 40years after the events in the 60s to realise that this unfortunate political experiment concorted by the British (and named by the girlfriend of a British Governor General over a cup of tea) called Nigeria, has been a farce ab initio?

SO TRUE!

ZombieSlayer1:
If this crime was committed by an Igbo man, this FP would've been filled with insults attacking the entire Igbo race.

A particular tribe has shown themselves to be the most tribalistic in this country but unfortunately for them, there are more than 200 other ethnic groups in this country and all of them are watching and learning
CrimeRe: Nigerian National Arrested With Crystal Meth Worth Over ₦‎1m In The Philippines by Uchek(m): 7:16am On Feb 12, 2023
So you believe this crime is the reason why Nigeria's image is bad?

SmartPolician:
If you are a Nigerian living somewhere in Europe, North America or Australia reading this, you have no business getting into crime. For Nigerians relocating to other African countries, South America and Asia, I have yet to see the justification for choosing those parts of the world.

Wherever you are, I challenge all of you. Stop performing your life and start living. You don't owe anyone to impress them. You guys should stop giving Nigéria bad image abroad. This shame is becoming unbearable. You guys are destroying the Nigerian passport! You people shouldn't add to our woes; we are trying hard to deal with our corrupt politicians and their SENSELESS supporters from within.

"On paper at that time, Yoruba dont even need Nigeria , is there any region that is better than Yoruba?"

So why did he fight for the sustenance of One Nigeria since on paper at that time, Yoruba didn't even need Nigeria.

Akolawole:
@Ababoy1
I see
I have seen the undertones in your write-up.

You a very good friend, you knew how many times i have been labelled a tribalist e.g

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-7389.0.html

For your sake, this is my view;

Awolowo is a great leader, his thinking faculty towers above his peers. He is NOT a tribalist but he tried to showcase his God given wisdom in Yorbaland before marketing himselfin federal.

I have read all his books and have been previledge to be at Mapo during his campaign, i beg you need to hear him speak.

If he is a tribalist, why did he stop Biafra?.He would have been in Ibadan refocusing Yourbaland.

On paper at that time, Yoruba dont even need Nigeria , is there any region that is better than Yoruba?

He got to the federal house, all his contributions to the development of Nigeria is second to none.

It is fundamentally wrong to compare India and Nigeria. It is a case of FALSE COMPARISON. I ca. Explain if you open to learning.

N3TRAL:
An elite actress? Yes

My childhood crush? Yes

A deep thinker? No

I've always compared India to Nigeria although Indians are more disciplined than Nigerians.

Visit all the firms in a random boulevard at Silicon Valley, 8 out of 10 will be managed by Indians. Most heads of Fortune 500 companies are Indians. They dominate medical practice in many Western Countries. India's generation Z outperform Western students in STEM courses in IVY leagues.

An Indian is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and many Indians have prominent roles in US, UK and Canadian governments.

Visit Mumbai in India and all you see is a "dirtier Lagos" . The bulk of Indians live in poverty and cannot afford the basic necessities of life. Those in rural communities in India have it worse.

It isn't political corruption. India's Prime minister, Narendra Modi has no child. He is a divorcee for decades with only books and writings to his name. When he dies, he will be cremated and his ashes may be thrown into water. Atal Vajpayee had no biological child too. So the argument of stolen resources cannot be logically raised.

Like Nigeria, India is still buried in religious superstition.
Like Nigeria, India has a worse tribalistic and caste system.
Like Nigeria, half of India has not been penetrated by rational thinking.
Like Nigeria, the part of India near Pakistan is home to some of the most vicious islamists on the planet.

The best we can have are people with a Messiah complex who build cult followings during election periods in Nigeria. The very fact that millions of people believe that a messiah can make this system evolve in a couple of years is the very proof that we're still far from that Utopian society we envisage.

Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Belgium and UAE are heavens on Earth. However, they are not as powerful nor do they have more USD billionaires than India combined.

The richest black men in the Planet can only be Nigerians.

Nigeria is the India of Africa. Nigerians will always excel at home and abroad.

If you love yourself as a Nigerian grin, work diligently for a better life and you will lift your name, your family and Nigeria wherever you find yourself. That's what the intelligent Indians do. That's what the few intelligent Nigerians do.

We will only experience a beautiful environment with an amazing system when the bulk of Nigerians have more developed patterns of thinking than the early men.

Totally agree with tou. So why is Tinubu against restructuring that would make Lagos become Dubai.

Ritchiee:
Olodo. There are quite a lot of things a state cannot do except in partnership with the FG.
A state cannot even take a foreign loan except with the volition of the FG so also is a free trade zone.
What Tinubu did was to think and do with the help of the FG.Yes,with a lot of push and push..

Nigeria has high unemployment and under-employment rate. The informal economy is the biggest employer of labor and includes street hawkers like the gala sellers you denigrated. Is it better to be self-employed with prospect to expand and diversify into structured business with employees or become an agbero or criminal. There is dignity in labor. That's why the average Igbo is the most economically empowered Nigerian. Igbo-hatred will kill you. Keep HATING while they progress.

U see why we want to live this zoo called Nigeria.

owobokiri:
At a point during the Lagos Ports congestion crises months back (before nairas free fall), it will take you almost 2 million naira to transport your 40ft container from Lagos State to Anambra State! That was almost the same amount it will take you to ferry the same container from China to Nigeria! There was no single government attempt to help! Traders bore the brunt without much ado, even as the federal government blamed them for all the evils in the country as if there is any any manufacturing alternatives in the first place. It has now become the favorite pastime of those in government at Abuja to rail against importers as if they're the cause of all Nigerias problems, when importers are only trying to eke out a living by filling a void created by government incompetence.

Yet, these are the people who pay the import duties that are shared every month end to the different States of the federation while providing basic goods that government failed policies have made impossible to be produced hetr. Buhari who's administration depends almost totally on these duties to stay afloat, was busy spending billions on RUGA for fulani herders from different parts of West Africa, who pay no single tax and are responsible for massive capital flight as they truck the dollars they made from their sales here to Niger, Chad, Mali, Guinea and Mauritania at Nigerias expense! Can anyone mention one single federal government project targeted at improving the work of Eastern traders since the inception of this country? Just one!

Southern Unity died the day the South-East start getting jealous of the educated and political successful South-westerners and the Oil rich South-southerners.

One thing about this life is that. If you feel like a loser, refusing to admit there are levels in life. You will always be a losers. The south-Easterners started their campaign of division by becoming envious of the south-west and Northerners political alliances. They called the Yorubas lot of disgusting names. Like the Northern-slaves, afonja, Fulani puppet.

But guess what... Those smart alliances that the yorubas has smartly kept going since far back as 1960 will now be playing to their favour in 2023. Something the divided South-Easterners wish for now. Something they will never ever have.
PoliticsRe: Southerners Are Never Tired Of Slavery: A Case For Peter Obi by Uchek(m): 8:51am On Dec 21, 2022
Did the Yoruba get the memo when they aligned with the North to defeat Jonathan. It is the Yoruba who sold their birthright for Emi lo kan's ambition that will cry if Atiku come to power. The Igbos are already down and fear no fall.

babasolution:
Buhari the Fulani, had 12,million northern mainly from the core Fulani controlled Hausa regions votes that he ran with consistently.

Despite his failures they stuck with him, when he now found the political trick to win by aligning with the southwest he eventually won and became the president.

In the past 7 years buhari has indeed paid the northern Fulani controlled region for their support.

Billions were given them for supposed " cattle ranching" ( no one talks about this).

NEDC the north east development commission was created and being funded by billions every year to take care of people who don't contribute to the national treasure in any way instead have cost Nigeria billions through the bokoharam insurgency, depriving other regions of needed funds.

He has placed Fulani people in all federal agencies and the control juicy sums and contracts.

He has found oil for them in gombe.

He has given the peasant herder Fulani free reign to take over any land of their choice by killing indigenous peoples with military cover.

Any one that says the north hasn't benefitted from their Fulani reign are jokers.

Now that it's time for the south to emerge having been patient all these while despite their deliberate impoverishment from the Center.

The PDP brought in another Fulani to give them more power to consolidate and benefit further.

The southerners there are giving all sorts of lame excuses thinking they are fooling us.Infact many of them supporting this Fulani to Fulani transition will not benefit.Once Atiku enters many of them will be replaced by a Fulani for appointments.

The southerners are making a cost political suicide by supporting a Fulani to Fulani transition.

This election should have been between two southerners.

Now even with Peter obi's emergence his people are generally not supporting him ,they are doing their best to kill his campaign expecting Atiku to reward them or waiting for after 8years which they aren't even sure they would be alive to witness.

Instead of them to rally round their brother, they are foolishly expecting a Fulani to favor them.

Look a Fulani to Fulani transition will be the greatest regret of southern Nigeria no matter how you see it.From any point of view southerners will regret allowing a Fulani to Fulani transition. It will cost them dearly.

It election is the turn of the south, any were in the south. It's not a Yoruba Igbo rivalry thing.

If the south cannot put their MAN as president come 2023.

They will be making a bitter costly mistake that will affect them and generations to come.
It's certain there no middle ground here.

The Igbo who think they can survive under a type of government will get a huge shocker eventually.

The Yoruba who think they can survive with Lagos will be shocked.

The nigerdelta who think they have oil will be surprised.

The Fulani aren't playing, they are not jokers.

The south hasn't gotten the memo yet.
