He is called the C-in-C for a reason. He doesn't need anyone's permission to deploy the troops WITHIN the country, esp when advised to do so by the security council.

However, like a maintained in a previous post, the response of FG has been too desperate and impetuous. It reeks of double standards esp when one compares with the kid gloves being given to the Fulani herdsman.
It's illegal. He's only going to get away with cos Nigeria is a third world country. If the president had absolute powers to deploy the army as he liked then he could just use them to intimidate or kill his political enemies or rig elections with no law holding him accountable.

Jonathan should have just seized power. I don't care whose house his decision would have set on fire. You won't see ignorant propagandist like Sarrki and Ngene*** on this thread cos they are programmed robots.
About people dissing the Yoruba I think honestly their attitude of a few of them on nairaland surprises me cos all of my Yoruba friends see Buhari for who he is- a monster. This ones on nairaland still supporting Buhari are just children who still feed from their parents.

I didn't subscribe to Kanu's approach from the beginning but for you to be heard in Nigeria you need to talk with a really loud voice. Kanu's loud voice were his "not too palatable" speeches. Other activists that go the gentle peaceful and so called intelligent way are never listened to in Nigeria.

I remember one lady in Nigeria info or so in Port Harcourt that runs an awareness program clamoring for political restructuring to save the Niger Delta. She has been talking for a month of Sundays an no one gives a damn about her.

Kanu has set the ball rolling now it's left for us to pick it up from their and fight for a political restructuring and ultimately a peaceful dissociation from those holding us from development.

South Korea wouldn't be one of the world's largest economies if they succumbed to communist North Korea. We have to earn freedom by fighting for it.

Hi fellow Nlanders

I was born into Catholic faith and practice till I was 12 and I enjoyed it. My parent became deeper life member while we were living apart and now a pastor in that church. I re-united with them when I was 12 and since then I've been attending the church with them and still attend Catholic occasionally....I love the preaching from the founder of deeper life as he preaches the bitter truth but I believe most other young pastor see d church "doctrine" as commandment and so must be kept 100%.....the founder of the church addressed this issue several times but NO.

18 years on since we re-united, I'm a graduate, married and living abroad but my father still forcing his believe and doctrine on me. I considered myself spiritual but not so religious. I connect with my God easily but not a 3G church guy.

He made me and my siblings antisocial and introverted simply because he believed we shouldn't be involved in any social activities even sports. I still remember being beaten for playing soccer, he believes we would be influenced badly. Watching TV was a crime especially movies.

Fast forward to yesterday he rang my wife to check on us but the first question he asked was if we attend to church. I told him it's been raining and temperature was really low....then he started lamenting asking if I won't go to work if it wasn't Sunday, complaining about the country where I can't worship God...then to get me more exasperated he asked and insisted I tell him how many time I've been to church lately and how many times I've read d bible....I told him we've been attending but he insisted on a number.

This got me so mad that I stood up for myself under a heavy breathe as I do not want to disrespect him or hangup on him.I told him I do not appreciate being asked questions like a 10 yrs old boy and at my age I should know how to live my life and what's best for me.....he got angry and said goodbye and I guess he was still on d phone but I didn't know...I just hang up.....Now I've block him from reaching me ... planning to change my numbers.....but not any financial support. Only cutting all communication with him but not with my siblings as they mean more to me and I wanna see them through as much as God help me...

Please is this not an over reaction because I loved him as he's a very responsible man who puts the family first and strived to make us who we are. But we do not av a close relationship because of his believe even though he's been forcing it.
Sounds a lot like "father" in Chimamnda's purple habiscus grin

But ( In Tyrion's voice) did you ever consider lying. It's a vital social skill you know. Lying would have saved you the relationship with your father at least

The EU spoke with the same voice, and so have tens of well educated scholars with enviable portfolio interpreted the contents of section 217 and 271 of the Constitution. Why then should we give ear to a well known bigot armed with nothing but hate for everyone east of Ore and less than 50mb free data from MTN hardly enough to educate him through a simple internet search and intelligent arguments on YouTube. Your post is only on the front page cos nairaland generates traffic through trending controversies of which the most current is IPOB.

PointB:
So when push come to shove, they look for path of less resistance? Only traitors and cowards do that. That's what the South East governors did with their unguarded, and unlawful utterance.

Together they could have jointly say they don't support the military action on unarmed protesters. And they didn't need to agree with the Military tagging of IPOB and terrorist, let alone ineffectually proscribing the group. Those governors are weaklings!
.
They're not weaklings. When you're negotiating with a stronger stubborn malevolent enemy you have to compromise. We had everything to loose as long as the soldiers remained on ground. Buhari on the other hand has nothing to loose cos he has the machinery of govt to rig in 2019, the full support of the religiously blinded north, and at least half of the Yoruba population. He will win in 2019. Nigeria is speeding through a dangerously dark tunnel with no light at the end of it.

Those South East governors are idiots.

They said the want restructuring, ask them how they will go about it, and you will see how shallow they are. They have no plans for their people, they are only interested in returning as governor.
Yet they have the temerity to ban the only group that is actually doing something for what they want. When they leave office, then they'll start expressing regrets. Bunch of dolts.
Their hands were tied. They had two choices: go the long path of opposing the dictatorial Federal govt while the boots remain on the ground killing innocent people in their hundreds or quickly compromising so those state sponsored vampires would have no excuse to spread their mayhem in the south east

I'm not against GEJ bring probed or made to face the wrath of the law if guilty, but we live in a country where the incumbent president continuously ignores court orders, didn't submit a certificate before being elected, was indicted by an oil fraud during his time as Petroleum minster, his supporters killed and maimed tens of youth corpers when he lost the last election, was guilty of several human rights violations during his military tenure and even now, plunged the country into hate and nepotism etc.

So please GEJ can pass on this one. He who is without guilt should cast the first stone.

Yes! I agree, but that doesn't make the militants more powerfuk than the military when FG remembers them. Ateke was declared wanted on radio one certain time, and he was in Okirika attending functions with tight army/police escorts.

In the case ot Tompolo, FG unleashed their might on him and he ran. No one is greater than FG.
Off course the Nigerian army is 100000+ besides the Navy and airforce. They have the numbers to overwhelm Tompolo if need be. But when an army repeatedly runs away from armed guerilla militias during confrontations then serious questions need to be asked. When an army has to bomb a whole village and kill innocent people just to chase a few guerilla bandits then something is really wrong. See how long we fought Boko Haram without real substantial success except "technical" propaganda from our "Lying " ministers. Compare our military strength with equally ranked countries like SA and Egypt. If Nigeria faces serious external aggression this army can't save us

Ok let me explain. I from Delta State and was born and live in pH until recently. I happened to be too close once to a military-militancy confrontation and my experience made me totally loose hope in the Nigerian army. I lived close to a community in Delta during my tertiary days where militants brazenly showed open might and the police army and what have u couldn't do shit about it. The only confrontation bw them was so shameful the army unit fled only to return later to pick random youths for torturing.

PoliticsRe: Is Igbo Really Marginalized? Let’s Discuss by UfuomaUN(m): 8:51am On Sep 18, 2017
I think the main issue the igbos have with Nigeria is the country isn't working and no one else has the guts to call for a change except them. The North is ok with whatever Nigeria is as long as the can practise their religion in peace and get free trips to Mecca for haij. The west don't really have a single voice ( as u can see on nairaland). Half of them see the country for what it is - a backward moving chariot. The other half are afraid of a change. Only the south east and south South are truly tired of Nigeria

No one should try our military might

That's all
Don't be deceived. Nigeria has no military might. We just have a number of under equiped, under trained guys in khaki led by corrupt pot belly generals. The Nigerian army couldn't defeat militancy, can't defeat Boko Haram and suddenly they can show their might against youths armed with stones and sticks.

Just pray your master's high-handedness won't drag us to another war cos we don't have the funds or the alliance to fight another war
PoliticsRe: Is Igbo Really Marginalized? Let’s Discuss by UfuomaUN(m): 8:25am On Sep 18, 2017
deomelo:
1. Marginalization is in the eyes of the beholder.

2. During the last administration, ibo people did not see or hear anything about marginalization because they were content and satisfied with the man and the party they love and voted for and even dominated that administration with their sons and daughters in the cabinet and all over the agencies as directors and so on.

3. You mentioned airports. Stella Oduah, ibo daughter of the soil was not only a mover and shaker in that administration, she was the aviation minister with billions of dollars at her disposal including billions in Chinese loans for airport construction and renovation.

4. The question is, why didn't she use her influence to build a new airport from scratch in the SE instead of refurbishing the old landing strip they mislabeled international airport to deceive SE'ners.

5. You sons and daughters are part of every administration in Nigeria so if it is your believe that the FG is marginalizing you, it means your own sons and daughters as part of that administration are marginalizing you also since they did not lift a finger to direct federal projects and infrastructures to your their regions.

6. Your elected and appointed leaders at the federal level are responsible for your region, it is their job to direct federal projects to your region so hold them accountable instead of blaming and crucifying people in other regions. The people in other regions are not obligated to look out for you because they are sent there to look out for their own people.

7. Still on airports. You can build all the airports you want in every corner of SE, it won't matter or improve anything because market forces, supply and demand dictates where and how people do business and make money. The fact that I have 2 airports, 1 in front of mu house and another in the back of my house doesn't mean anything unless I have huge market and buying population with disposable income to sell to.

8. There's more to doing business and economic activities than airport and we can see this already with the international airport they already have in that region. Why are ibo business people all over Nigeria taking advantage of that airport to boost economic activities in that region?

The demand is not there because your business people don't see any economic advantage in that region. PERIOD.

9. Still on airport.

If airports are so important to that region, why are the governors in that region not joining forces together to build their own airport? Must the FG build airports for you especially when other states are building their own themselves?

You want us to believe that you are the richest, you are the smartest and you own everything in Nigeria, but you still can not build ordinary airport or construct a little 2nd NB yourself and you are the one shouting marginalization.

This is Dutse international airport, built by the state government.

These are the same Hausa people you love to hate and abuse, but they are showing that they are more capable than you at the state level.

They are moving ahead without siting around like lazy people shouting marginalization.

The state governors in the East collects taxes and allocations just like the rest of Nigeria so when was the last time the average ibo man ask their state governors what they did or are doing with their taxes and allocations?

Never, they don't ask their leaders for anything because they've been mentally programmed that it is the job of the FG to do everything for them and people from other regions in the FG are the bad people denying them everything. They will kill themselves over Osun state and demand accountability from Aregbe before asking their own leaders anything even thought the same Aregbe is building his own state airport even though it's taking him forever to complete, but he has the vision and audacity to start construction instead of crying marginalization.

Your future should be in your own hand, not in other people's hands

Marginalization is what lazy and incompetent people shout to divert away from their laziness and incompetence.
The Imo airport was built by the state govt in the 80s with contributions from almost everyone in the state. sohuh
They're about three airports in the south east with another about to be built sohuh

The anger of the average ibo is that no one has paid for the numerous blood letting in the North under the guise of religion. That is it for me

Although the thought of shrinking a four Lane road to create space for BRT lanes looks stupid, but the govt is banking on the idea that presence of BRT buses will reduce the number of vehicles that ply the road by over 20%.

Commercial buses would ply shorter routes, private car owners would rather use the BRT buses reducing the traffic on the road by a significant amount

Nigerians like to overestimate our Army way too much. Without wanting to mix words, the NA is probably the most pathetic fighting force on the continent! Coming from someone whose father retired a captain in the NA and whose grandfather tasted action in the Biafran war. In case you all don't know both AU and UN relegated NA to manning roadblocks on foreign missions abroad as they are deemed not a good enough fighting force to be in the thick of the action, how pitiful! The once feared NA been reduced to mockery in the eyes of the international community. My point is Buhari should tread carefully with this whole IPOB thing, one wrong move and we are at war! Should this IPOB peaceful demonstration be allowed to fester into an arm conflict all because of Buharis Jim Crowism, the country is pretty much doomed! Surely you don't want to be fighting a two front war with this pathetic army! Boko Haram in the North and IPOB from the east. Oh Lord Saveth!
