Insult him all you want he is your president and has done better than who he took over from.

Even the visually impaired are aware electricity supply has improved. The rail lines in the south west are coming on nicely.

Npower has given succour to the youth who would have been asked to queue up in a jam packed stadium for a non-existent job, that would make billionaires of the government officials behind it.

Insecurity is still a problem but it has been so for the greater part of a decade now.

The president can do better but indeed he has done well.

Pls shut it!

Politics / Re: Bisi Akande Trumpet Bridge, Gbongan Osun In Pictures by UfuomaUN(m): 12:53pm On Jan 12, 2018
bellyjean:
I don't understand how majority of the contributors did not get the point @YOruba was trying to make.

These and many more by Ogbeni are laudable projects. The ones he did in Osogbo are great. The bridge and the detour to ring road from Secretariat road is long overdue. The detour to ilesa garage will ease traffic once completed.

But this trumpet bridge is not needed by osun state right now. And unless osun state has plans to make money from this gargantuan project, I would say it is a white elephant project.

Let me build my case pls.
1. Ibadan to Ife/ilesa to akure is a federal road. One beautiful thing about osun state is that this road is just outside the major towns of osun state. The road passes just on the side.
NB. Gbogan is not a major town.
From this express road, you will have to travel inwards, either left or right to go to Osogbo, ife, and ilesa. Since this road didn't enter any major town per se (like Lagos -Ibadan express way enters Ibadan city), traffic will always be free and smooth at the entry and exits of these major towns. So the trumpet bridge clearly was not needed.

2. Building a case for the capital city, Osogbo.
Osogbo is so centralised that there are about 4 entry/exit points into the town.
a. From ilesa
b. From Ife/Moro/sekona to ede to osogbo
c. From gbogan
d. From Iwo
These four routes are utilised by people coming from lagos/Ibadan and akure/ondo/oore
e. From ikirun
For commuters from offa/Ilorin/ Niger state.

One can see how there are options for commuters depending on where you are coming from and where you are going (if you have to pass through Osogbo)

3. Pls we know the textbook importance of infrastructures like good roads.
But a more sensible project to embark upon is to upgrade the aforementioned entry/exit roads into quality double lane roads.
NB. I stay in ilesa, had my secondary school education in ikirun and completed my bachelor's in Ife. So unless you stay in osun state, you wouldn't know that the abovementioned roads are as bad as the roads that lead to stream in your villages.
So you would agree with YOruba that unless there is a specific and strategic need for this trumpet bridge, this might be ogbeni's greatest scandal in his 8 year rule in osun.

4. ... for a better and a more pleasurable tomorrow.
Since 2015 or 2016, Ogbeni has been paying part salaries to the state employed workers. He couldn't fulfil osun's commitment to Lautech. There are some positives too; the mega schools he built. But if this trumpet bridge was one of the reasons why osun workers were denied full benefits over the years, then the bridge better attract investors, provide jobs for the unemployed youths and maybe someday, a world marathon event is done in the state with this trumpet bridge as the route.

5. ...Gbogan, the industrial hub of osun state?

Was there any pressure on the exit from gbogan to Osogbo?

No there was none. Gbogan's population is probably less than 300,000 or just around this figure.

Is gbogan town industrialised which may have led to any congestion experienced in the town?

No.

Will Gbogan ever become industrialised? Yes of course. But unless, Ogbeni has this in his immediate plans or has signed some MOU with some investors to come site their companies in Gbogan, then, the timing of this trumpet bridge is wrong.

I can go on and on. But to do any form of criticism here, I might be relegated into the IPoB league and I don't want this.
"Ona baba ona", the super roads in built in ilesa, Ife didn't last up to 1 year before they got damaged. Why not do standard roads and come back in 5/6 years only to do small maintenance and repairs?

Why not leverage on the strengths of osun state especially, the human resources available, the good arable lands, proximity to Ogun and Lagos, why not collaborate with the governments of Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, and may be ondo to link the States via high speed rail networks?

Why not leverage on the rich culture and heritage and also peaceful atmosphere of osun to make it the number one tourist destination in Nigeria?

I rest my fingers here.

Bless your soul for this! Was going to say almost the same thing but I don't want to be called Ipob! I guess Nigerians deserve their leaders after all

PFRB:

I have been n Rivers state since 1984. I have worked and lived in all the areas of oil production in Rivers and Bayelsa. What Wike says is the plain truth. I was in Brass in 1997 when the Brass Vs Okpoma war was sparked of by the double dealing of Agip oil company. In Izombe, Ashland oil company used directional drilling to tap oil from another community because of dispute in community settlements. When the other community discovered it trouble broke out. You may recall that during the Ogoni investigations, it was seen that SPDC(SHELL) officially procured arms.

What you said it the Gospel truth! That's why when I read shit on nairaland by people from other parts of Nigeria blaming the Niger Delta for violence, Militancy and kidnappings I shiver at their ignorance. Multinationals, IOCs, Politicans and Powerful oil bunkers brought violence to the Niger Delta. Where else would rural communities in creeks get thousands of dollars to acquire gunboats, GP Machine guns, artillery and automatic rifles in thousands

Oga, the war began in late 1967, almost 10 months after his birth. Secondly, only about half the Igbo population went back before the war. Thirdly, of what importance is his place of birth, date of birth and tribe relevant to his success story. Wike is busy empowering youths with arms, sponsoring PDP convention with Rivers money, without any meaningful development, no vision, no intelligence, no wisdom, just wastage, this is the most empty headed Governor ever, with the hugh funds at his disposal yet nothing to show.

Most firms dat closed down are firms dat are been sustained by looted funds, most genuine companies dat i know of were able to survive d recesion period. Dey reduced their staff strenght so as to cut cost and dey also increased the price of their product (inflation) just to survive d harsh period which is gradually reducing. It happened in other countries dat went into recession like Nigeria, so as for those dat u claim closed down i strongly believe most of dem were been sustained by illegal means which PMB is here to end.

Yes we are happy our region is the most industrialised in the whole of Nigeria, but another thing yoruba leaders should be verry mindful of is the ethnic groups of the people working with all the companies in our region.
The staff of every company in yoruba land should be 70% yoruba youths, other tribes can take the remaining 30%.
Untill we start doing it this way outsiders might just be benefiting more from those companies than the average yoruba youth/man.

Yoruba first should be the watchword because this is what others are doing.

May God keep blessing our region.

The problem of the igbos is very simple to solve.

1} Stop hating other tribes

2} Be humble and continue being hard working

3} Invest more in the SE and keep most of your people in Igbo land

If the above steps are followed religiously, an Igbo man will be voted into Aso rock in less than 20 years. We yorubas will even help you get elected like we helped Jonathan if you follow this advice.

The situation is even worse than presented by the OP. Many Telco related companies are in deep financial crisis. A Telecom company I know gradually over the year sacked all their well paid staff in operations Dept without reason and replaced them with fresh graduates and interns cos they can't pay 6 figure salaries anymore. Even in the SBC were I work, I happened to come across nearly 50 names that would be dropped this December while poking my nose in my boss files. Worst part is some of them are my friends but I just can't bring myself to call them and tell them.

That's why when people say Buhari for 2019 I feel an irresistible urge to strangle them or get a gun and shoot them.
