I said same two years ago and was severely criticised for it.
Well, you cannot ban people from procreation like the Chinese 'cos of the differences between both nations. Culturally, politically, religiously and otherwise we're different. However, education (secular) should be promoted, female education should be encouraged further; the economy should be improved - incomes raised, contraceptives made available, abortion legalised and lots more.
Countries like China and Singapore had strong leaders and institutions to enforce the law. Even Singapore had difficulties enforcing because she is more democratic than China. It'd be difficult to enforce such laws in Nigeria. But yeah! We need it.
P.S. Having a large population is not necessarily a good thing economically. Last I checked, our purchasing power is very low compared to say the Swiss or Singaporeans. help me tell them o |

IbnAbdullah1: My sister, everything have it's good and bad side. And I think having more children should be a boon not a bane in a country like Nigeria. It is simply because we lack the managerial capacity to utilise our God given resources that's why we campaigning for child control. China had made a policy then on one-child per couple I know they have now reversed it because they saw the negative consequence of it.
Nigeria had way too much resources that cater for the need of everyone in West Africa it is just greed that is our major problems, and the dearth in human capacity. If we can focus more on utilising our human resources to make good use of what we have, most of you will drop this idea. they have reversed it because they have achieved their aim. Their population over the decades have peaked and balanced, and at the same time, they are now well off. But then, even after that, the culture of having less children has been inculcated in the Chinese already, so the law has achieved the aim. so the law can be scrapped |

dominique: Even though I don't support the tribal tone of the Op, I believe the government should put restrictions on the number of children couples should have especially in the rural areas. Mind you, it's not only the northerners that have multiple kids. Southerners, easterners and westerners are also guilty of same. Nigerians (ignorant ones anyways) will be blaming northerners alone for this child breeding madness, but its a national issue, especially in rural areas I have seen this fvckery a lot during my little tour of southern Nigeria Women with 7, 8, even 9 kids and they are not even up to 44 I even have a village aunty with 12 kids We need to set up a covert operation to sterilize a lot of people in Nigeria /Africa before our society becomes something else desperate times desperate measures |

Deadlytruth: So bad indeed. The level of impunity and irresponsibility on the part of those in power in Nigeria is just too high. They are too insensitive. I heard there were retiree and pensioner share holders who invested all their life savings in those two nationalized banks. It was a very harrowing moment for them. Young as I am, I put myself in their shoes and I started weeping. It was from that moment I realized the truth in one of Lord Luggard's statements that the average Nigerian craves for power and position without knowing the responsibility attached to it. That's just how it is o Craving for power, but abhoring the responsibility the comes with it |

Deadlytruth: Blame experience. I once bought and longtermed AFRIBANK and BANK PHB only to wake up one day to see them nationalized by SLS 33 days to the deadline which he himself earlier on set for them to recapitalize. When asked why he didn't wait for his own deadline the guy claimed he discovered they wouldn't be able to meet up with it the date even if he waited it out. See answer? Meanwhile they had already found someone interested foreign investors. The aggrieved share holders went to court but SLS never showed up for any hearing. They called on GEJ for executive intervention but that one just dey flex for one corner for Aso Rock. Him no even send them. Last last the matter just end and all shareholders' funds enter voicemail till today. My saving grace was that my units of shares in those two banks were such that I could afford to give as a gift without shaking. Wetin eye never see for inside this long term matter? Long term is long throat in Nigeria. That was too bad! I remember that fiasco Why are we as a people like this in Nigeria? |

Kolping: Thank you.
What you've said is true. We have a rentier economy or rent based economy. In addition, our so called businessmen and women, who are among the richest in Africa, are rich because Nigeria practices crony capitalism.
According to Wikipedia, Crony capitalism is an economy in which businesses thrive not as a result of risk, but rather as a return on money amassed through a nexus between a business class and the political class.
Rentier capitalism is a Marxist term currently used to describe the belief in economic practices of monopolization of access to any (physical, financial, intellectual, etc.) kind of property, and gaining significant amounts of profit without contribution to society. Well I have a soft spot for dangote tho But most times, people make it in Nigeria via connections sha But I still believe that there are legit billionaires in Naija tho or don't you think so? |

If its zoned to the South, forget it, the SE can't stop the SW from getting it if the SW is interested in it. Remember the SW has produced President - FHR Speaker - VP back to back with the SE only producing a Senate President in 2007.
If the SE doesn't key in between now and February next year, they may not get in until 2039. |

omoelerin1: And the dullard president we have believes Nigerian youths are lazy, they don't want to go to school, all they want is free money; since Nigeria is an oil producing country. If he is a someone who is academically sound and intelligent, he ought to be aware of this. About 1.5 million candidates sit for JAMB annually in which more than 60% passed. And the total number of the candidates which all the Nigerian higher institutions both university and polytechnic can admit is not more than 150, 000. But he is not aware of this fact. Nigeria is already suffering from over population basically because the rate of our economic and infrastructural development is not at par with our population growth. Unfortunately, we don't have competent leaders in Nigeria. Govt lacks good planing policies. Which is the bane of our development. The population growth rate needs to be arrested That's the main danger |

Ornament2003: I know quite well that Saraki, Atiku, kwankwaso, Tambuwal et al can NEVER become the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
As for Saraki, he has reached the peak of his political career. The only movement available for him is downward the political leader. And if care is not taken, due to greed, cunningcraftiness he might crashland badly.
You can quote me.
If you know, you know.
Buhari is in power till 2023. Then southwest will stage a huge comeback & hold on to power till 2031.
Unless, and until the Igbo people change their mindset and align with the right people, they would continue to play the second, or even third fiddle till His kingdom come.
Mark my word. What does Igbos have to do with this now? ? And when the presidency is "zoned" to the South, you really think it will be someone from the SW that will be given the ticket? ? |

Career › Re: Salary Ranges Of University Lecturers In Nigeria? by Ugosample(m): 11:44am On Sep 02, 2018 |
Kolping: Our education system and curriculum, especially at the university level, is geared towards producing graduates for a developed and industrialized economy. The problem is that a large proportion of the Nigerian economy is still undeveloped and not industrialized. As a result, the few parts of the economy that are developed cannot absorb most of the graduates coming out of the universities. So a large proportion of graduates end up being unemployed who then seek ways to leave Nigeria to developed economies abroad where their education can be utilized. Industrialization is the fastest way to create a large number of jobs and lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty. China and South Korea are examples of countries which achieved that. Selling our oil, cocoa, groundnut, cassava, yam, beans, and any other mineral resources abroad will never make Nigeria a developed and industrialized economy. As they say, produce or perish. Nice analysis However, because exporting raw materials is the path of least resistance., and it will make our elite rich and fat without much critical thinking, the elite in Africa encourage it! I must say, you got a sharp brain in your head |
