By making the above observation in bold, you've already agreed to part of the things said.
I don't agree completely with you. I think it's better put that way. I read the link you posted, and I do not agree completely too. I had tonnes of documentaries on my laptop before it was stolen, if not I'll have recommended a couple of them for you.

Pan Africanism to me is a big FRAUD.

Why?

Because they always paint Africans as victims and at the same time not acknowledge the role we Africans played in the mess we are in.

That aside...

I liked Fela because he is a role model for every African, but other pan Africans even Rodney himself, I don't agree with their ideals in totality.

Yes, it's true. Education in Africa is part of the instrument of slavery and colonialism. It wasn't created for our own good. I talked about it in details at this link http://www.africason.com/2015/10/intellectual-slavery-most-dangerous.html

Many years ago, Dr. Walter Rodney in his book "How Europe underdeveloped Africa" noticed what I said, and he called it "Education for underdevelopment". Africa CANNOT develop or be truly independent, until we create our own model of education that have no colonial hangovers. Education devoid of the brainwashing colonial education that we inherited from Britain, France, Spain, Portugal. I'm talking about the education by, of, and for an African mind.
I get your point, but I disagree with you. There is nothing wrong with the educational structure, we just need to update our syllabus and probably add a local flavour to it.

Asian universities use the western educational model spiced up with local flavour and they are progressing . Nigeria needs to do same.

Sometimes I think something is seriously wrong with black people. My thought tho.

And I'm my own end, I see so many single ladies above 35.

The first is as a result of lack of proper structuring of education itself in Africa. The structure of education in Africa is so screwed that education causes elitism, which help widen the gap between poor and rich.

The second is as a result of intellectual slavery. Unfortunately, training Africans to keep-off our value system and ideals is what comes with western education.

Therefore, we literally go to school in Africa to become un-educated.
lol @ the last paragraph cheesy grin

Educated to be uneducated. chai.

Majority of families start this way before crumbling/separation.

Young couples are not to be emulated, I celebrate anniversaries more than celebrity and photoshoot weddings.
And you think that those ones celebrating 20 years anniversary are really happy? Many of them are enduring the marriage, especially the woman, and they would never tell you They would take smiles outside, but inside?

I think we have confused American feminism with Nigerian (much needed) feminism.

I cannot believe that people are blaming feminist for rape occurrences. Maybe we should blame all Muslims for 9/11 attacks or all Christains should be blamed for Holocaust or All Africans as scammers but I digress.

With a snap of finger, your husband can decide to push you dependant woman and kids outt. You are entitled to zilch in this country.. No alimony no child support. All these men on nairaland will be the same to tell you why are you depending on your husband. Try being a widow in Nigeria.
I remember a story a young woman put on nairaland, she was in a dilemma, she earned 100k + health benefits for family monthly, husband earned 40k. She had run out of time for maternity leave. Her husband would never quit his job and if she quit her job, she would not afford rent or health insurance if said baby became sick. She hadn't found a nanny and she was in despair. The sensible thing would have been for her husband to quit his job , but NOT IN NIGERIA, you know men and their egos. We just consoled her in family section and gave little bits of advice. This is why most women in Nigeria have to work! Why are there married women with kids hawking pure water, why didn't they just sit in their husband's house? An insult to career women is an insult to all women who are suffering and saving to raise their kids.

How many of you have ever heard of men fighting for their marriage? None! Its only women fighting because they know that they are nothing without a man. How can you as an adult exist for someone else?

What about reproductive rights? Women have zilch in Nigeria.Where can you get condoms, contraceptives pills or cheap birth control for women? Child support nko? If a man impregnates a woman, he can leave and never return. Society will forever shame her for having sex. Forgetting about the men. Sexual harassment nko? Try studying in a Nigerian university as a female, you can be there for extra years just because you refuse to suck a man's dicck?

What about rape? A young 12 year old was continuously raped by a 70-something grandpa the other day. Nairaland said the girl was at fault because she collected money from the man. Some even said she seduced him. LOL.!!Even women were supporting.

What of domestic violence against women . One thread,a young courageous man stood in front of his abusive father who was hitting his mom and nairaland consensus was that the son should have done nothing because perhaps the woman Was NAGGING.
Now imagine if it was reversed, a woman slapped the man. She will definitely regret her actions.

What about infidelity and infertility. Try being infertile in Nigeria, you will be laced with insults and called all kinds of names. A woman is told day in and out that she has to stick with her cheating husband but God forbid she cheats. Are we going to talk about women that have been discarded because they don't have male children? Even though Science has proven time after time that men are the determinants of a baby's sex.

What about responsibility: An average 12 year old girl in Nigeria is cooking, fetching water. sweeping and washing everyone's clothes by hand giving her little time to study because you better train her for a man instead. The average 12 year old boy is washing cars at most. these man-banies then grow up and demand that women spoon-feed them daily because they have been trained that way. Your average married man cannot cook a pot of soup.

Can we stop people from being evil? NO!! But feminism seeks to educate people especially women that we have choices, we are not objects and we need to be treated fairly by men and the society
I understand your sentiments and I can relate to it. However, I don't agree that the nan has to resign his job. Rather, he should be more supportive and if he cannot be supportive, then he should fast track getting her a maid.

There is always a better solution to every situation.

Lol, I have a background in all of the above. What I am trying to point out is Kemi is more than adequate for her role. The economists should be in planning and budgeting ministry, financial analysts or investment bankers in investment and trade, while the accountant should be in the finance ministry. Because even within a company, when decisions are to be made about loans and financing, financial health of the company, it's the accountant that plays mostly the advisory role.
Okay. Like you have a degree in each of them? lol. Your opinion is respected tho. The Central bank governor should be an economist too Or what do you think?

Why would anyone even Nigerians invest in such a country.

Even members of the same tribe and clan steal from each other rather than develop their regions.

With the present prevailing mentality even if the country is split into 36 countries there will be no development until we tackle corruption and tribalism even at the local level.

Besides, economics is very broad and touches every aspect of human existence e.g. Health economics, Petroleum economics, energy economics, Labor economics, Development economics, Monetary economics, Public Finance, Econometrics etc.
It is very wide, and would forever be relevant in the world

He's right. Financial Analysts and Economists are the most similar. One focuses on the micro the other on both macro and micro. But accountants do all including manage the cash. Accounting is more broad than finance and economics. This is not to say that Economics is also not important. Because the decision making and analysis has a country wide view or world view. I summarize the professions like this:
Economics: analyzing economic factors and providing possible solution within professional parameter.
Financial Analyst: analyzing how these economic parameters affect the numbers.
Accountant: Recording the analysis of both the economist and financial analyst and making decisions on how to apply this information based on very strict rules of the profession. Which in turn can have a big impact on the company or country.
I still don't agree that accounting is broader than economics. But you have made good points, and further proven beyond doubt that these professions are interlinked and they need to work together, just like the organs of a body for the economy to function.

P.S. Do you have an economics background?

You are wrong. Accounting is now integrated with financial analysis and economics. Yes economic variables may not be used at non decision making positions. But accountants are well versed in economic variables and are required to understand it for the profession. Accounting is so versatile now that an accountant can work anywhere in any industry. In both policy and non policy making positions.
O.k. I wouldn't take anything away from your noble profession. However, That guy insinuating that economics would be rendered irrelevant is also wrong.

Economists also possess knowledge of accounting, especially those who specialize in International Economics And Trade Policy.

To bury the hatchet, let us say that the courses are in a way interconnected. Abi? grin tongue

Moving slightly away from the topic, my mind goes to the issue of how the youth want an end to the Era of recycled politicians and believe they can make a change somehow.

Truth is that while the notion is admirable, it is a recipe for disaster giving the status quo using this thread as an example. A larger percentage of those commenting seem not to understand the role of ministers. Someone actually put a succinct list of the roles & responsibilities of a finance minister. It's actually a lot more than that.

If we think that a minister is just a figure head, then it's okay to pick an agronomist and make him minister of health after all he has a permanent secretary he can boss around to get the job done.

It is true we all can't know everything but we can do well to know something about everything.

Educational, political and socio-economic enlightenment are the tools the youth of this country need to oust out our aging politicians.
You make a whole lot of sense. but will the youths listen?

O.k. I'm back

The first achievement I hail her for was making public knowledge, what each state of the federation was collecting from the FAAC. In other words, residents of each state knew how much their state governor was collecting.

Second, she advocated that the oil windfall be invested in a sovereign wealth fund, Using Norway and Libya as worthy examples to emulate in that respect.

The Nigerian Governors Forum kicked against it, That frog eyed bagger (Oshiomole) was very vocal in his opposition to this. They wanted to share the money, and indeed they later shared the money, not thinking about the future How sad.

Now shit hit the fan, and the same g.oil (Oshiomole) had the guys to point accusing fingers at NOI. How quick many Nigerians forget

Third, Nigeria's recurrent expenditure blew, and one of the major reasons for that was because of the increment in minimum wage from 7500 to 18000. This means wage increase across the board. Nigerians were cheering. Forgetful people.

Youth corpers allowance also increased to
19800. Corners were happy.

Add that to the subsidy payments which is a heavy load on Nigeria, and a drainpipe to the economy . This subsidy should be removed, but Nigerians went on the streets, O.k. Partial removal, but the bill is still high.

There are many other issues on ground, but space will fail me if I include them all here. All these facts are verifiable and you could check it out.

NOI wasn't a saint, but she wasn't a failure.

I never said economics is narrow nor accounting is wide and if u have good reading skills , you would see where I wrote When accounting consolidate micro and macro economic variables, it will surpassed economics .... with that assertion alone , you don't need to list all the macro economic variables that guided Chinese success because I already admitted accounting lack the tools in evaluating these parameters........

but because your brain dey hitch you while your fingers are shaking in the hotness of your body, you typed without adequately reading what you were replying. next time read before typing OK.

No wonder u guys fail a lot , stop being a fool OK. Knowledge is advancing.
I understand perfectly what you wrote before, my comprehension skills are too notch. So pray tell, how do you integrate micro and macro economic variables to accounting? You guys should just stick to your forensic accounting, auditing, etc.
And lastly, the field of economics is evolving at a fast rate, with new fields cropping up every day. Get that into your coconut head.

We accountants are taking over the economy both academic and corporate world even public organisations ..... .... economics should go back to the classroom and keep simulating ceteris paribus ...........

Economics is getting relegated daily verily if we accountants should consolidate micro and macro economic variables in our permutation and financial reporting while we develop our own statistical tools which I will tagged "Accountmetrics"..... e don finish for una ......

As one who have seen both sides, this is not to knock your hustle, but accounting is as narrow as ****

Economics is a broad based profession, spanning across Development economics, monetary economics and the list is endless. You think the Chinese miracle was driven by accountants? Leele onye isi di ka okuko ;S

It was economic modelling and a synchronized blend of economic policies that brought about the Chinese miracle, spanning across:

1) Which economic system to adopt?

2) Which monetary and fiscal policy to adopt?

3) What exchange rate policy to adopt?

and the list continues.

With una narrow profession, how can you draft a broad based policy design that woyld take the economy to the next level?

Kemi Adeosun will outperform NOI in Buhari's regime.

NOI failed because GEJ was the weakest president in the history of Nigeria......... NOI excel during OBJ regime. Kemi Adeosun despite not possessing same qualification as NOI will have Buhari's total support and attention, and that is what will make her succeed.

She is not even alone , MoF has technocrats also CBN is there to provide Monetary policy support and area of fiscal policies, The Minister of trade is also a good analyst among many economists that can be consulted even Soludo is everly ready to help at least through criticism ....

what we need in Nigeria is not economists but Kemi Adeosun, we need somebody who has auditing and accounting experience to help boost our fallen revenue through diversification while also protecting our heritage from vampires though Audit.....

only we accountants are trained in revenue boost and safeguarding of money via Value for Money (VFM) ... we are also trained in implementing ZBB "zero based Budgeting which is a VFM tool.

it is not about the certificate alone, but the will and the support system.

Enough of all the bu.llsh.its from the economics profession, it is time for accountants to show economist their modelling and power points graph are all craps .... Economics only simulate world scenarios by manipulating macro and micro economic variables while hiding under ceteris paribus ..... Ceteris paribus is the highest fraud in economics profession because ceteris doesn't paribus in most occasion. These variables being held constant ain't constant in real world and in the longrun, they vary cuz they are stubborn.

Economics is only OK for academics not for professional world .... economics is only OK in classrooms and research institutions not strictly business corporations ....... No time to test run nonsense models.

There is no gamble in accounting, it is either you make profit or loss .... our valuations are real also our judgement.

ThanGod, we accountants are exploring econometrics now like never before, very soon we shall advance the course of knowledge and create our own simulating tools ..... Time for economics to be relegated in the sphere of knowledge and corporate world.

Even Jarus ran away from economics and parachute into accounting via ICAN, grin .... he doesn't want to become a lecturer. lol ahahaha grin
