Also... last year they implemented same day walk in for an extra £100 . So if you have an extra 100 then you can walk in anyday

Oga try and do the TRCN, madam stenon is one of the first people to research teaching in the UK as an overseas qualified teacher. Just follow her steps jejely and and personal research. If the said CIE is global, UK will still ask you to register to have QTS abi whatever which is local to them.

So I have started my personal search for jobs in the UK, through some of the job platforms mentioned earlier, and I am hoping for a positive outcome. My main questions are;

1. I'm thinking of [b]paying an agent to help with the whole proces[/b]s, as I've never done anything related to Visa before, never travelled out of the country before either, so I feel maybe they'd help me get a job faster, and I can get a COS from a sponsor. Do you guys think it's okay, or I should continue with my personal search and keep hoping?

2. From all the discussions so far, it seems the Tier 2 Visa is what will work for me. I'm an Art Director, my basic skills set are Graphics design, Motion Graphics and Video Editing. I just want to confirm that the Tier 2 Visa is what will work for me, right?

3. From all the conversation on this thread, I've learnt that with the Tier 2 Visa, I can also apply for Tier 2 dependents, and have them relocate with me, once I can get a COS.

But most of the people I've seen here that applied for Tier 2 dependents were already married, and even with kids, so the whole family would just relocate.

The thing is, I am not yet married, but I have a girlfriend, and we quite have a very strong relationship. I want to know, when I eventually get a Tier 2 Visa, should I register her as a dependent, even though we're not married yet, and she's not relocating with me yet, as she's currently running her Masters,and won't be through till the end of this year.

Would she still be able to come to the UK next year as a dependent, provided I can make available proof of funds, since the COS maintenance fee for dependents would have expired?

I'm thinking of going to the UK first, and work for at least 1year, to get financial stability and accommodation in place.

Then come back to Nigeria for the wedding, and then have her come back to the UK with me?

Will this be possible?

4. If this would be possible, and I've already registered her as a dependent, would she still be able to get a visiting visa without the Home of Office thinking that she won't leave the UK, since she's on my dependent list already?

2. check out the UK shortage of occupation list to see if your skills are in demand. T2 is the visa for those who get an employer that's willing to sponsor/endorse your visa ( I hate the word sponsor it deters a lot of employers)

3. You can get register her once you are married no need to rush. And if you are planning to work for a year before she joins you, you no longer need maintenance prove from the cos. You should have required funds in your account.

Hello all, congratulations to those that recently got their visas. i hope you are all settled in. few advice for those here or planning to come for studies.

1. Start applying for jobs immediately your are settled. i know it being said before but i cants stress the importance of this.

2. Only apply for job from companies on the tier 2 list.

3. Download and familiarise yourself with all sections on the tier 2 and tier 4 guidance for both sponsors and applicant. This would enable you to stay in confines of the law in anything you are doing.

3a. General tier 2 requirement does not apply to a tier 4 student. their is still provisions for post-study work. YES THEIR IS PROVISION FOR POST STUDY WORK IN THE TIER 2 GUIDANCE. below are a few points for your reference (paraphrasing)

Section 1.9: Employers do not need to pay the immigration skill charge for a Tier 4 student visa holder which is currently in the UK.
Section 26.4 -26.5: Exempt tier 4 student from requiring the minimum salary of £30,000 per year down to £20,800.
Section 28.9: This exempts an employer from carrying out the resident labour market test.

4. Network and meet people. this is as important as your education, the right introduction to the right person would work wonders.

Create a LinkedIn page and optimise it. Write and review your cover letter weekly.

Try to find a place to volunteer (even if it's 1hr a week) it looks good on your profile.
Find paid/unpaid work which directly relates to your industry/area of study (don't get carried away chasing money.)


For those still in naija learn how to barb/make hair/sew.
You would value it once you get here.

I used CC during my test (its part of driving why wont it be allowed). Moreover there is a section for eco driving on the marking sheet.

I used Ford focus cant remember the year (surely less than 5 years)

I am talking of 10 years ago plus ..... two of my friends kept failing and both were using their cars. Then someone made a comment that test instructors dont like it. Next test they did with instructor car instead of personal and they both passed.

While I dont have any evidence to show if using their car worked to their disadvantage because we never truly know . I am just sharing how it happened

Use cruise control to maintain 20 and 30 speed limits, most modern cars have this function and it's allowed for the test

For some reasons I forgot to share my driving testimony here. So here it goes to encourage someone.

I passed on the 5th attempts after giving up for more than 6 months. My first exam was December 2018 and I was not adequately prepared and ended up failing. 2nd and 3rd attempt was booked 2 weeks apart in February and I was just desperate to get it over with and still failed.
4th attempt was the semi last straw that made me give up because I failed for not doing up to speed limit, which I felt was not correct because the examiner judged me on Tom-Tom speed which is usually lower than what you see on the dashboard and the 3rd minor was literally 30 seconds to the exam center.

I was so pissed and angry and just decided to stop wasting money and stick to public transport and driving the family car when I can. Eventually with encouragement from here and family I booked another exam but decided to change my full strategy.

a. Research pass rate of centres near me, my exam centre had 32% pass rate so I decided to go for another not too far which had 49% pass rate
b. Changed Instructor after being loyal for 4 times
c. Scheduled exam for a Thursday and booked the preceding days off work to ensure continuous practice (I was always going on a friday test date and last lesson would have been sunday.
d. Made sure I was really calm like what is the worst that can happen.

On that beautiful day in October, I did my test and passed with 3 minors. I was over the moon, typing this months after sef I still feel like its a huge achievement and load off.

Thank you to all who encouraged me to never give up. To all still struggling to pass, just dont give up and your hardwork would soon come to fruition

I think after failing at most twice, it is very advisable to change instructor.
Some of them are just greedy and look forward to you paying for further lessons

Now people have suggested to keep trying for a Tier 2, but we know how that can be, and after what happened to a friend of mine that lost her job on a Tier 2 visa, I don't want the uncertainty associated with it. I haven't really looked too much into the requirements for start up visa, but I heard its only for 2 years. I need 4. I am also currently learning about the exceptional talent visa and that may eventually be what I go for[b],but I heard (and i may be wrong here) that it works better for those already on Tier 1, 2 or 5[/b]? Thats why I want to also investigate this PSW route.

Them say them say @ bolded. I know a person that applied for exceptional talent straight from naija. And he used the music/arts route.

But just choose what is best for you sha.

Hi Justwise and good fellows in the house,

I am currently on my Doctorate Extension Scheme visa after completion of my PhD. The following is a summary of my situation.

Summary:
Point 1: I'm currently enroute a comfortable 6 years in UK continuous residence and hope to make the 10 year ILR.
Point 2: I have spent 5 of this 6 continuous years studying without breaks. the 6th current year is on a Doctoral extension scheme (1 year visa) expiring next year.
Point 3: I now need to earn 4 years more to qualify for the 10 year ILR.

However,
Point 4: The UK has an 8 year maximum study cap. As I have also held a previous (since expired) tier 4 visa on a masters course for 17 months (i.e the standard 1 year 5 months visa), it doesn't count towards continuous residence now. This is because I went back to Nigeria after I completed it and spent more than 180 days there before returning to the UK to study again. Even so, this study period is still counted by the UK Home Office as 1 year 5 months used towards the 8 year study cap.

Therefore,
Point 5: My total study period in the UK so far adds up to 6 years 5 months, which leaves me with 19 months (1year 7 months) left to use on the 8 year study cap. (But remember point 3 above)

At Present:
I learnt about the return of the Post study work scheme, though it isn't yet in effect, I heard it would only be valid for those graduating from 2021 onwards.

My Intention:
I plan to leave the UK after my DES expires next year for 6 months and return in less than 180 days to start the MBA. (This gives me 6 months of continuous residency even though I wouldn't be present in the UK for that time as long as I return within 180 days).

After the MBA programme:
6months (outside UK) + 18 months (MBA) = 2 years
Post study work visa = 2 years
This adds up to the 4 years that I need to qualify for ILR.

Questions:
Will the new PostStudyWork visas start automatically after 2021 Masters completion, or these would have to be applied for?
Is it possible for me to apply for an 18 month MBA course, even though I now have a PhD?
Does anyone know any UK universities that offer 18 month MBA programmes that begin in March/April 2021?

Would there be any issues with my current situation and intentions above?
Other suggestions are welcome.

I will suggest you look into applying for a start up visa or an exceptional talent visa.
Another option is to apply for a research positions as well.

I believe rebtel charges VAT. I used vectone for a long time before they reviewed their prices. I switched to rebtel but the VAT payment was a turn off. I now use white calling app. It's 6.5p per minute to Nigeria mobile. I just top up £5 or £10 at a time and use it for months. I have never used the bundle as I imagine it will expire after 30 days.

Vodafone international saver is £3 for 100 minutes.
7.5 for 500 minutes.

But you might need a contract to benefit from these discount

Frankly speaking, I have read the said immigration adjustment but still not convinced that it can make one stay except you are lucky enough to get sponsored by company. It seems to me that tier 5 is only like internship thereafter you return back to your country.

If you enter UK before change of immigration policy, the said policy will not affect you, and I don't think the policy can change soon.

I would advise you start applying early, don't restrict to a particular industry and put your ears down for information and search jobs from available job site and company's domain.

Plan B, if you have enough money to invest, you can change to graduate entrepreneur after finishing your studies. Other route can come from marriage.
You can also try get US visa, Canada visa, Australia visa as your hands can reach before you finish, atleast 6-7 months to expiration of your visa

Graduate entrepreneurship route has closed and is replaced by start up visa
