Gbaysamm: Hello , Please guys help on this: I applied to several colleges as undergraduate in the US, 2 of them(private) already admitted me, two rejected me, while I am still waiting for the rest (about 6), But, I heard that the VO most time reject visa for students going to study in a private university in the US, How true is this please .
The two universities are Transylvania and Chatham University, please, I will also like to know some other accepted undergraduates here.
And lastly, i would like to know if probably there is a government funding or any private scholarship for international students to study in the US Thanks Congratulations. The thing is, as long as you can defend whatever purpose you are going to the embassy for, you are good to go doesn't matter whether private or public universities. On scholarship or any form of funding, ask your school about it if there's any available. You can also check on other schools. What you actually want is ask if they have Scholarships for international students and how to be considered. P.S: To boost your chances of scholarships with Undergraduate degree, you might want to submit a SAT score. Best of luck |

cincolaze: Hi, good afternoon everyone. I'm new here and just about to start my masters in US journey. I graduated with a 3.47 Cgpa, my question is will this affect my chances of getting admission? Hello, your GPA alone doesn't make up your application. With that GPA, you can secure admission. What should be your concern is getting funding. So you might want to use the WES free calculator to convert to a 4.0, work on your SOP, talk to professors if you have to have approval to secure a GA or TA position and every other thing. Best of luck |

Chocolatecakes: This is my proposed transcript
Me: Good Morning Vo: Good Morning, pass me your I-20 & all Me:passes them
Vo: Why are you travelling Me: I'm going to study for an associate degree in computer science with concentration on software development at Rcc
VO: Why the Us? Me: The US has a lot of advantages over Nigeria technologically and otherwise, they're culturally diversified and there's no language barrier .they have 50% of the tech giants globally and I'd like to have top quality education.
VO: How did you find this school? Me: I did my research on colleges around the area that's best for my degree and relatively affordable for my sponsors as well as has good International student reviews.
VO: How many schools did you apply to Me: 2, Rcc and Mt.sac .i haven't heard from Mt.sac.
VO:Why Rcc? Me: From my research, rcc has an 8 instruction al pathway that offers superior learning experiences where I'll have the flexibility to explore educational paths career options that are just right for me
VO: Why California? Me: CA is where the tech giants are like Apple, Google, Oracle, Cisco Systems and the list goes on
VO:What will this degree do for you? Me: An associate degree will cultivate my technological and fundamental skills, giving me the qualifications I need to pursue a bachelors degree.
VO: what will this course do for you? Me: this course will do so much as enable play an important role in creating technology that improves society and the world at large and also revolves some of Nigeria's problem of society placing so much value on me.
VO:Why this course? Me: I've always loved computers and fortunately for me the world is turning digital as the days go making it (computer science ) a global opportunity And Nigeria lacks professionals in this field that are enough to make lasting technological developments.
VO:What are your plans after graduation? Me: After I get my degree, I'll be coming back to do the compulsory nysc and thereafter work with INITS for some years b4 I pursue my bachelors degree. And also take care of my family.

VO: Your academic background? Me: I finished both primary and secondary education at the Nigerian Navy.
VO:Have you travelled out before? Me: No, I have not left Nig before
Pls I need Constructive criticism The interview is tomorrow....... WHY US? This should be answered based on the course you want to go there to do not on country's development level. How does US has greater advantages more than Nigeria and otherwise?? Keep this comparison out of your response. Give your answer based on, "Why do you want to do this course in the US and not Nigeria without downgrading Nigeria" WHY RCC? Work more on this reply. What exactly made you applied to RCC? What do they have that's unique to them? WHY CALIFORNIA No no, don't say this. You are going to school not going to work so what business do you have with the biggest tech companies Plus, you can't talk about affordability and mention California. It's one of the most expensive states in the US. WHAT WILL THIS DEGREE DO FOR YOU Why exactly do you want to go for this degree and how will it be of benefit when you are done? And why are you not going for a Bsc now? WHY THIS COURSE Again, avoid downgrading your country as much as possible. This is about you and your interest. Leave Nigeria out of it. YOUR ACADEMIC BACKGROUND You might want to add some figures (year) to the details. Best of luck |

What are the steps for applying for a funding... I mean is it before or after securing an admission? It depend on the school. Check with the graduate coordinator of the school to know if funding Application is separated from admission Application or applicants are automatically considered for funding by applying for admission |

Afesdiddy: Please house have been asking any cheap university in America one can apply for There's nothing "cheap" about studying in the US but you can get affordable schools if you want to pay out of pocket without any assistantship. Infact, you can apply to any school as long as you can afford it. Use Google to search for Schools that offer your course and you're good to go. You can either pay yourself or apply and get funding. Best of luck |

hopefulmindhdd: Good evening everyone. I'm a prospective student wanting to study for my undergraduate degree in the US most preferably. My question is that I have started processing admission into a Nigerian tertiary (when I wrote JAMB) institution but along the line when I finished my SSCE last year, my plans to study in the US became more feasible . Although my results weren't as superb as to what you'd see online but it ranges from A to C . Sorry for the lengthy explanation above . The question is that should I finish the processing or I should just focus fully on the US's ? I just want my preparation to be holistic by having in mind whether or not it would affect my profile negatively or positively when I get to the Visa application stage. You should continue with both processing to be on a safer side. Best of luck |

Cause am thinking since she Use me as her sponsor they might have my name on the System Already, My appointment date since long Kindly Advise It's fine to say yes but double check if the F1 is still on good standing. Unknown to me, the person helping me fill my ds-160 wrote that this masters would help me get a good job when I’m back home, and I answered another thing when I was asked by the consular. Now I want to reapply and fill a new job I’ve been working in since this month, what are my chances of being approved? Thank you as I look forward to a reply Okay. That's why it's strongly advised to fill your ds160 yourself. You can fill in your new job and when asked what has changed you will answer accordingly. Best of luck |

MelaninGemstone: US are really crazy o!!!! My cousin had his visa interview today at the US Embassy in Abuja and they denied him !!!! I think this transcript is very okay. The guy is feeling suicidal right now. Please guru’s in the house, please help me scrutinize this!!
* V.O: Pass me your passport and i20
* V.O: Where are you going to? I am going to Texas A&M Kingsville University for my Masters in Electrical Engineering
* V.O: How did you hear about TAMUK I have two family friends who currently study at Texas A&M Kingsville. They told me a whole lot about the University and the quality of education I stand to also benefit if I come.
* V.O: Which other school did you applied to and how many admitted you? University of Texas at San Antonio, New York Institute of Technology and Texas A&M Tamuk
* V.O: Why Tamuk over UTSA, NYIT? I pretty much enjoyed my interaction with Dr Armit Verma of the Department of Electrical Engineering in the Frank WIttcherweich School of Engineering. He provided me with prompt and precise responses to each of my request. We already built a good rapport. he was very excited on my admission to TAMUK as compared to the other Universities I applied to.
* V.O: Why Electrical Engineering? Coming from my first degree on same course, I am now more passionate to acquire the requisite trainings to become a leading force in bringing about the lasting change in our power systems. Indeed there are numerous challenges with Power in Nigeria same as its opportinites and the vacuum here can only be filled by those who have the right knowledge.
* V.O: Why do you want to study in the USA? Graduates of American Universities are always very well skilled. American Universities offer impeccable syllabus with a great blend of both practical and theoretical skills. Also, their degrees are highly regarded globally. They occupy juicy positions on their return to the country due to their acquired skill. Their degrees are well appreciated and recognized globally. Why do I need to consider anywhere else.
* V.O: Tell me about your study plan. After my two years study stay in the US, I will deploy acquired skill into improving the power system of Nigeria by seeking for employment with the Ministry of Power specifically and becoming a contract lecturer with any of our top rated University in Nigeria. Instilling in them the right academic standard needed to be a better Engineer.
* V.O: What will this degree do for you? This degree will arm me to be a better competitor among the league of well trained engineers who are willing to help build Nigeria. It will formally align me to global standards in terms of being a properly trained Electrical engineer.
*V.O: Tell me about your academic background I finished from the University of Port harcourt in 2018 having graduated with a CGPA of 3.85. For my final year project, I worked on the comparison between Proportional Integral and Proportional Integral Differential for Liquid level control. I use Matlab for basic computational analysis. as this was deployed at Afam gas plant in Rivers State.
* V.O: What you been doing? After my compulsory two one year NYSC, I have worked with a few Nigerian companies in the Engineering sphere, such as (abc) height in Port harcourt, and now (xyz) Electric. Currently with xyz Electric where I function as a Maintenace Engineer, I carry out maintenance checks on Electrical parts with the help of circuit software JIRA.
* V.O: who is paying for your studies? My Dad.
* V.O: What does he do? He provides Industrial gas to manufacturing companies in Lagos, Ibadan and Benin.
* V.O: Can I see his bank statement? Oh Sure.
*V.O Goes through the statement for over 3 minutes cross checking every detail V.O What is FBM as stated in the statement? I said its one of the transactions that occurred. Actually a case where a client made payment. The statement actually has N34 Million.
*V.O Goes through the statement again while typing some crap. *V.O I’m sorry you are ineligible to enter the US at the moment, while handling to me the blue paper. Please check through section 214b ………………… I was dumbfounded, I felt my world was crashing in on me. I left the facility disgusted. Sorry to hear this but some responses doesn't fit in with the question. 1. Why do you want to study in the US? Apart from every other thing he said at the beginning which was indirectly downgrading the educational system of Nigeria, did the person actually said "Why would I want to study anywhere else??" That's absurd. So that's one. 2. What's your study plan? More like, what courses would you be taking at your new school? How many credit units?etc His response to this would have fit into the next question perfectly. 3. Why TAMUK? This question should have been answered better by stating what is distinct about the school compared to the rest. Why exactly did you apply to the school in the first place as regards your interest? Best of luck |

Amazingoreofe: Gurus in the house, please I need your advice.
I just got my PhD admission US for Fall 2022. G.A offer-Full funding.
I got several admissions last year but couldn't go because I was planning my wedding. Deferred
I am pregnant at the moment and my due date is march/April by God's grace. I plan on going to the US with my baby and my husband.(F2)
I am waiting for my baby to be born before proceeding with i20, visa and the rest.
Please I will like to ask if there are any restrictions for taking a 3 or 4 months old baby to the US.
Should I defer my admission till spring 2023?
Please If you have anyone that has gone through something similar, I'll need your advice.
Thank you Okay. So here is it, you will need help with a 4 months old baby. There's no issue to apply with your family. Just continue with the rest of the process and pick the earliest date. As long as you are able to provide statement of account that will cover your dependants. PhD program is stress and your husband can ease the stress plus extra daycare cost while he's there by staying with the baby. Best of luck |

Thanks for all the great advice on this thread. It's been great reading through. I have two questions I would like to kindly ask for your help with.
1. Is there a way to get expedited interview dates? 2. If not, I am British and my husband is Nigerian. He has held previous US Visas and has been there frequently with no issues or previous refusals. Is it possible for him to apply and renew in England which is my country? He does not live in England and will be on a visitor visa but based on his spouse being British, is this something that can be done especially if he's in England for a period of about two months for our childbirth?
Please advise. Many Thanks. 1. Yes, by applying 2. If UK Visa allows him to apply to another country while still there, then he can provided he has home ties. |
