PoliticsPresident Buhari To Seek International Support For Ogoni Clean - Up At Summit by Upritman(op): 6:30pm On Nov 13, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari will among other
issues bring the need and efforts by his government
to clean the devastated Ogoni environment in the
Niger Delta to world leaders at the 22nd Conference
of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change
(UNFCCC), also known as COP-22, to hold in
Marrakech, Morocco, from November 14-16, 2016.
This was contained in a statement from presidential
spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina, on Sunday.
According to Adesina, Buhari would participate in
the official opening plenary on November 15 where
he would deliver his national statement during the
high level segment of COP 22.
The President will use the occasion of his speech to
rally international support for the clean-up of
Ogoniland in the Niger Delta.
Another key issue President Buhari will canvass
support for is the resuscitation of the Lake Chad
Basin.
Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to implementing
the Nationally determined contributions and policy
actions aimed at tackling climate change through
environmental sustainable efforts will be also be
restated to the gathering by President Buhari.
Versatile Reporters recalls that the president had on
August 5, inaugurated the Governing Council and the
Board of Trustees of the Trust Fund for the
Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project
(HYPREP).
The two bodies were for the Implementation of the
United Nations Environmental Report (UNEP) Report
on Ogoniland.
Despite these efforts, many stakeholders have
continued to express anger at the delay in
kicstarting the clean up exercise that is estimated
to last for a duration of 30 years.

Politics2019: Adamawa Government Reveals Atiku's Presidential Ambition by Upritman(op): 7:05am On Nov 13, 2016
The Presidential ambition of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has been exposed ahead of his 70th birthday celebration. This was made public by the Adamawa State government through Abba Jimeta, the Chief of staff to Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, during the flag-off of the construction of Girei-Wuro Bokki road by Governor Muhammad
Jibrilla yesterday.

He said all elected and appointed officials in the state would work for Atiku as soon as he declares his intention to contest. “The entire Adamawa state government is firmly behind the former vice president ; whereever he (Atiku) goes, the state is government is behind him. “From the Governor to the Deputy governor, the Secretary to the state government, Commissioners, the special advisers and special assistants and all other political appointees and members of the State House of Assembly are behind Atiku Abubakar”.

Jimeta said this will be in appreciation of the huge contributionsof Atiku Abubakar to the economy of the state and the nation. “Such an important figure in Adamawa State, we as a government have nothing to pay him back, than to support all his political ambitions and to give him our support if he declares to run for any political office”, he added.

Recall that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who has refused to give up on his political ambition has ended up been considered as one of Nigeria's famous political prostitutes. Atiku, who vowed never to defect to any other party when joining the APC has over the times been accused of making secret moves aimed at perfecting his next political destiny.

Political watchers have hinted that if President Buhari decides to contest in 2019, Atiku may end up leaving the party for the PDP who is seriously shopping for a prominent and wealthy northerner to field against the incumbent President or any other candidate of the ruling APC. And if Buhari refuses to recontest, it is believed that Atiku would catch into APC's plan to allow the north complete its eight year tenure to fulfill his presidential ambition.

However, Atiku has repeatedly denied any plan to defect from the APC or contest for president. Such secret moves and interests are the major cause of the current problems rocking the ruling party including its inability to conduct its Board of Trustees election, which Atiku and Tinubu are billed to have serious interest in.

Versatile Reporters recalls that Atiku contested the presidential primaries of the APC and came a distant third position.

PoliticsResign And Join Police, Dakuku Tells Wike by Upritman(op): 5:09pm On Nov 10, 2016
...Accuses Gov. of Running Most Deceitful Govt.
With Governor Nyesom Wike becoming increasingly
restless and desperate to investigate, try and jail
alleged printers of fake INEC documents all by
himself, the Rivers state governor has been told to
resign and join the ongoing recruitment of
policemen by the Police Service Commission (PSC)
where he can put his ‘expertise’ into use.
One of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders
in the state and its 2015 governorship candidate, Dr
Dakuku Peterside gave the admonition following
fresh allegations by Wike against the Nigeria Police,
where the governor is claiming that the AIG in
charge of Zone 6 was allegedly planning to bury the
matter by asking that it be transferred to him.
He wondered how the Rivers state governor has
suddenly turned to Commissioner of Police,
complainant, prosecutor, judge and controller of
prisons, who determines how a supposedly criminal
matter should be dealt with.
“Wike should be reminded that Rivers people and
Nigerians are no fools to be treated to a circus
show where a state governor is the complainant,
arresting officer and prosecutor and wanting to
assume the responsibility of police commissioner.
“He will do well to resign as governor and join the
ongoing recruitment into police force. Enough is
enough with the antics of an irresponsible governor.
We have never had it so bad in the state,” he
stressed.
He reminded Nigerians of the antics of the PDP in
the build-up to the 2015 general elections, where
the APC was accused of cloning PVCs and plotting
to hack into INEC database. However, it eventually
proved to be baseless.
He berated Governor Wike for shopping for all
manner of pictures over the internet, all in an
attempt to rope him into their evil plot and drag his
hard-earned reputation into the mud.
Dakuku, who is also the Director General of
NIMASA, accused the state governor of running a
government of deceit where everything, including
the state budget is shrouded in secrecy.
“Never have we had such a deceitful government in
the history of the state. As at today, nobody has a
copy of the state budget for 2016, not even
members of the House of Assembly. Not too long
ago, two of his commissioners appeared on a live
radio programme and were asked by Rivers people
where the state budget is, they admitted not
knowing the budget of their respective ministries. Is
that not a shame?
“Teachers, pensioners, civil servants, doctors,
nurses among others are being owed several
months salary, yet the deceitful government
continues to claim no worker is being owed.
Nobody in Rivers state knows the value of projects
awarded by Wike. He just wakes up and awards
projects the way he likes.’
Dakuku stated that Rivers people were increasingly
getting tired of the antics of the governor, who he
says cries the most whenever elections are around
the corner, while also threatening the lives of INEC
officials, ad hoc staff and security agents.
He assured that the APC will win any free, fair and
credible election in the state, as according to him,
the party is well grounded and has the candidates
who are widely accepted and responsible.
The former Reps member called on APC faithful in
the state not to be deterred by the latest antics of
the PDP, saying in the end, the will of people will
triumph in favour of his party.

Politics21 Years After : 30 Facts About Ken Saro Wiwa by Upritman(op): 9:55am On Nov 10, 2016
The name Ken Saro Wiwa still remains very
much alive 21years after the painful demise
of the bearer.
In Celebrating this global icon, Versatile
Reporters provides the following 30 facts
about KEN SARO WIWA.

1. He was from an oil-rich minority tribe of Ogoni
in the Niger Delta Region.

2. He was polygamous with about four wives

3. He was an alumnus of Government College,
Umuahia and University of Ibadan.

4. Ken Saro wiwa wrote over fifteen books,
poems and playlets, some of which are
textbooks in universities globally.

5. He was a lecturer briefly at the University
of Lagos.

6. He was betrayed by some of his own
people who collaborated with the Nigerian
government against the generality of the
Ogoni people. These sets of People were
generally revealed to as Vultures. Ogonis
believed they accepted bribes from the
federal government and betrayed the Ogoni
struggle by openly fighting Ken.

7. Ken alongside eight other Ogoni leaders
where sentenced to death by hanging by the
Abacha Military Juncta through a military
tribunal that was headed by Justice Ibrahim
Auta, the current Chief Judge of Federal
High Court, Abuja.

8. The main reason why he was killed was
because of his strong stance in pursuit of
the rights of his people.

9. Ken was feared to be mystic as the
experienced hangmen specially brought to
hang him and his eight colleagues faced a
huge challenge at executing Ken. It was
reported that the hangmen succeeded in
executing Ken only when out of deep
emotions of watching the execution of his
friends, Ken had said a short prayer and
libated. Many people still believe that Ken
could have disappeared if he truly never
wanted to them, but for fear of what people
would say, especially family members of the
eight that were slain earlier before him.

10. He was commonly seen with
his smoking pipe, even in prison and at the
military tribunal.

11. Other countries including the
US and UK sincerely pleaded with Abacha to
gift Ken to them instead of wasting such an
embodiment of natural intelligence, but
Abacha claimed that would be interpreted as
weakness of his government by the
international community, so he offered the
pleas his deaf ears.

12. His execution provoked global
outrage, suspension of Nigeria from the
common wealth of nations for three years,
calling back of foreign diplomats and
imposition of economic sanctions on
Nigeria.

13. After his execution, the
Nigerian government refused releasing his
corpse to his family; instead acid was
poured on his remains to ensure immediate
decomposition and his bones were buried in
a mass unmarked grave with security
guards securing the cemetery day and night
for years to prevent any attempt to trace and
exhume his bones.

14. His death was blamed chiefly
on an evil connivance between Shell BP and
the Nigeria Government following Ken’s
unrelenting wars on the Oil Company and
government over environmental degradation
of Ogoniland.

15. The Abacha government
attempted severally to bribe Ken with a state
for the Ogoni People alone but Ken refused.
The Abacha government then out of
frustration and desire to divide the Old
Rivers State decreed the creation of Bayelsa
State.

16. He is known for fighting a
non-violent war termed pen/intellectual
militancy against the armed militancy now
been experienced in the Niger Delta.

17. One of his famous quotes is
“You Can Kill The Messenger But You Can
Never Kill The Message”.

18. Ken was executed the same
day he was born

19. He served as the
spokesperson and later the President of
Ogoni umbrella organisation, Movement For
The Survival Of Ogoni People (MOSOP)

20. He was the producer of the
Popular TV Drama Series, “Bisi and
Company” that had over 30million viewers
nationwide.

21. He was never a supporter of
Biafra and Ojukwu was reportedly happy
when he heard the Nigerian government he
{Ken} supported has turned around to kill
him.

22. He served as the civilian
administrator for the Port of Bonny and
regional Education Commissioner in the Old
Rivers State.

23. He was appointed by Ibrahim
Babangida as part of the transition
committee but he turned down the
appointment over fears that IBB was not
sincere about relinquishing power to a
democratically elected president.

24. He served as Vice Chairman
of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples
Organisation (UNPO), General Assembly
from 1993 to 1995.

25. He is known for leading the
highest group of a minority tribe on a protest
against the government which attracted
global attention to the plights of the Ogoni
People.

26.. All of the witnesses brought
to testify against him, after his death and
that 0f Abacha, admitted that they were
bribed by the Nigeria Government.

27. He predicted his death in
1989 through his satirical piece “Africa Kills
Her Sun”.

28. His struggles / death remains
a global pointer to the plights of the oil-rich
Niger Delta region of Nigeria.

29. His memorial is an annual
celebration in different parts of the world.

30. A Street in Amsterdam is
named after Ken Saro wiwa.

Today, Ogonis are using this memorial to
call on the Federal Government to review
(judicial) the circumstances under which he
and eight other illustrious sons of Ogoniland
were killed, especially since Nigeria’s current
President, Muhammadu Buhari was in the
Abacha regime.

PoliticsRe: Amnesty Granted By State Governors Simply A Fraud - - - Niger Delta Minister by Upritman(op): 7:52pm On Nov 04, 2016

PoliticsAmnesty Granted By State Governors Simply A Fraud - - - Niger Delta Minister by Upritman(op): 7:51pm On Nov 04, 2016
As some state governors in Niger Delta resort to
granting amnesty to cultists and militants and as a
way of addressing rising insecurity in the region, the
Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Nguru Usani,
has described the Amnesty Programme as a fraud
that does not have any impact.
The minister made this known after attending a
workshop in Owerri, the Imo state capital.
While lamenting the abuse of the Amnesty
programme by the state governments, the minister
faulted the manner the state governments granted
pardon to criminal elements parading as militants,
stressing that the exercise does not enjoy the backing of the Federal Government or his Ministry and therefore is "null and void”.
“It is unfortunate that the amnesty programme has
been misused and abused. From my own
understanding, what is happening is not amnesty.
Any criminal cannot just go and carry his grand-
father’s arms and after terrorizing the community
for a while, he is granted amnesty.
“The amnesty has been abused, in my own view, it
has really been abused. Somebody goes to carry
his grandfather’s gun that he used in fighting the
2nd world-war to present and say it’s amnesty, that
is nonsense to me, this is my take on this amnesty
thing that I see happening around.”
Versatile Reporters recalls that the Imo and Rivers
governments had recently initiated an amnesty
programme for militants in their domains with lots
of arms and ammunitions recovered.

PoliticsTimi Frank May Be Expelled From APC As Disciplinary Committee Submits Report by Upritman(op): 7:23pm On Nov 03, 2016
More trouble lies ahead for the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Timi Frank as the five-man disciplinary committee constituted by South-South zonal leadership of the party has recommended his suspension and subsequent expulsion from the party.

The disciplinary committee headed by Solomon Edoja on Thursday submitted the report which sought Frank’s ouster for making disparaging comments against the party in the media.
The panel, while presenting the report to the APC National Vice Chairman, South-South, Prince Hilliard Eta, said it relied on a petition from Mr Aneka Akpabio against Comrade Frank for its decision, following the failure of the party’s deputy national publicity secretary to honour its invitation.

The committee said the petitioner appeared before them.
“Since the committee is not a Father Christmas, it has no choice than to rely on the prima facie evidence tendered by the petitioner. Consequent upon which, the committee now recommends as follows; that Timi Frank be suspended from the party forthwith in line with Article 21 D(f); the zonal executive committee should recommend to the National Executive Committee (NEC) for the expulsion of Timi Frank from the party in line with Article 21 (D)(h)(ii) and (iii)", the report read.
The Bayelsa State born politician had consistently called for the resignation of the party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun over what he called his incompetence and failure to address the crises rocking the party.

Frank's anger with Oyegun is also due to the party's NWC decision not to recognise him as the acting national publicity secretary since the resignation of Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the erstwhile APC spokesman.

Versatile Reporters recalls that Frank had earlier fingered the party’s national chairman as the brain behind the constitution of what he called a “kangaroo” panel to investigate him.

Meanwhile, the recommendations of the panel are still subject to the approval of the party’s NWC and NEC.

According to the newspaper’s investigation, trouble
started when a group consisting of the defunct
Action Congress of Nigeria under the leadership of
its then Chairman, Dr. Philip Idaewor, wholly
transformed itself into the newly formed All
Progressives Congress, UK chapter.
It was revealed that such single transformation was
made possible because of the long-term
relationship that exists between Idaewor and the
National Chairman of the party, Chief John
Odigie-Oyegun.
This action marked the beginning of the end to the
party in the United Kingdom as stakeholders across
the legacy parties that merged to become APC UK
were directly marginalised.
Concerted efforts made by various eminent
Nigerians in the UK to broker peace and bring the
faction together appear to have proved abortive.
A few months ago, Idaewor, who was believed to be
a former classmate of Odigie-Oyegun, used his
relationship with the National Chairman of the APC
to get an approval to run the party in the
United Kingdom.
This was seen by other stakeholders as nepotism
and godfatherism at play and is said to have
created rancour that has continued to blight the
party in the UK.
According to a reliable source, Idaewor’s faction
attempted to organise a meeting that could have led
to a congress a few weeks ago, but the meeting
was disrupted by some attendees who protested
against his leadership style in handling the affairs
of the party.
Part of their grouse, according to the source, is the
fact that many notable stakeholders were not
invited to the meeting.
This action, according to our source, led some
attendees to question the motive of Idaewor for
convening the meeting.
Just two days ago, another faction under the
leadership of Ade Omole issued a press statement
denouncing Idaewor’s planned congress.
In the statement, the Omole’s faction alleged that
“many of the party members have long voiced out
their fears about the attempt by certain elements
within the party to engage in rigging during the
purported congress, having witnessed
the shoddy antecedent of Dr Idaewor in his days
during the ACN era, where without holding a proper
election, he made himself chairman.
“This new attempt to rig the convention would not
be taken lightly. It is obvious to the discerning that
this ‘launch’ is an attempt to side-track the
convention and commence political cum
administrative activities as APC UK without
following due process. As we all know, democracy
means giving all those eligible a chance to decide at
the polls.”
When contacted, the Deputy Chairman of another
faction under the leadership of Alhaji Garba Sani,
Joseph Adebola. declined to comment.
According to Adebola, the matter is already in court
and that Idaewor has been served with a Notice of
an Injunction hearing, which will take place very
soon.

PoliticsRe: Wike ’s Extravagancy : An Evidence Of A Visionless Administration by Upritman(op): 2:00pm On Nov 03, 2016
Marotzke:
You are being sarcastic right? A committee chaired by Alabraba is what you are disparaging? With OCJ, Peter side, Wigwe, lulu Briggs, Onyiuke, Mitee et all. Are you mad?
See it differently.
Yes they may have their onus but unlike what is obtainable elsewhere, everyone on the Rivers List are core politicians and among the kitchen or parlour cabinet of the governor. Despite their alternative careers, they are all pro-wike and members of his party. Unlike politically neutral persons on the Lagos list. Such ocassion is to galvanise all sons and daughters of the state, so it isn't the best means of political compensation.
PoliticsWike ’s Extravagancy : An Evidence Of A Visionless Administration by Upritman(op): 1:33pm On Nov 03, 2016
While how Gov.Nyesom Wike got to the
Rivers State Government House is now a
common knowledge and generally
referred to as the bloodiest path to
power, many people have either turned
blind eyes or deaf ears to the usual
controversies that have characterised his
administration thus far.
Two key things have continued in Rivers
State under Gov. Wike;
General insecurity of lives and property
including the continuous massacre of
citizens, especially members of the
opposition.
The continuous politicization of almost
every activity of the government.
Rivers State is the only state in Nigeria
where a sitting governor never makes a
statement without a direct use of threat
of violence or attacks on government
institutions. Here, everything begins and
ends with politics. While other states
have taken to the path of development,
Rivers State under Wike is still politicking
and doing Window-dressing development
characterised by filling of potholes,
completing nearly completed projects by
previous administration and taking all
the glories while inviting politicians from
far and near to witness the launching
and paying huge sums of money to air it
on live television usually African
Independent Television {AIT}, the Pro-
PDP station.
Rivers State has continued to suffer
severely with workers and pensioners
been owed for as much as eight months
despite huge federal allocations,
internally generated revenue and about
N300billion worth of loans so far
collected by the governor.
Recently, Gov. wike claim he has
constructed over 80 roads worth over
N90B. However, whether this is true or
false, a visit to Portharcourt and the
locations of the purported road projects
and its nature will convince you better.
But a clue is that some of the ‘newly’
constructed roads are either flooded or
failing already.
Back to the crux of this piece, Gov. wike
recently inaugurated a 151 man
committee to see to the state’s Golden
Jubilee Celebration. The glaring thing
here to any conscientious person is the
size of the list of members. Why 151?
Imagine how much the members of this
so-called committee will earn within the
duration of their assignment.
To show how everything in Rivers State is
defined exclusive by politics, the entire
membership of the committee is made up
of politicians. And the characters of most
of the people on the list are extremely
questionable. Rivers state people and
Nigerians should therefore not expect
anything meaningful from this
committee. It is just another means of
settling the ‘boys’ while the real issues of
governance are unattended to.
Take for instance, Lagos just like Rivers
will soon also clock fifty {50}. And what a
visionary Gov.Ambode that is governing
over a state with the capabilities and
potentials of been a country did was to
set up only a 12 man committee. Morally
and financially compare a 151 man
committee to a 12 man committee, and
you can’t but pity Rivers state under this
current administration.
Lagos state to the best of my knowledge
is not owing its workforce even to the
tune of eight months and in the midst of
its wealth I can attest that her 50
Celebration will be more modest and
economically beneficial to the state than
the jamboree and looting spree set to
take place in Rivers State.
Compare even the composition; while
Lagos committee is chaired by renowned
laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka with other
reputable individuals that of Rivers State
is chaired by a renowned politician, Chief
Ferdinard Anabrabra.
For the records, here is the Lagos list:

@ OP! The Akokos are out of Aketis reach! They are out to revenge the maltreatment of Abraham's their son by APC! Anywhere Abraham leans to, the Akoko leans to! This means that anywhere Tinubu lean to they lean to
Is Abraham the one who provides their daily bread?
Are the destinies of His People and His tied even in our politics of personal greed?
What if Tinubu who is also expected at the flag off campaign with Buhari finally does and supports Rotimi dramatically through another political deal?
What if Rotimi wins without Abraham and Tinubu's supports after all?

PoliticsOndo PDP Guber Crises: Appeal Court Reconstitutes Panel by Upritman(op): 12:02am On Nov 03, 2016
The president of the Court of Appeal, Zainab
Bulkachuwa, on Wednesday raised a new panel to
hear all the appeals emanating from the leadership
crisis in the Ondo State chapter of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP.
In a letter with reference number PCA/Abuja/
VII/2016, Justice Bulkachuwa named Justice
Ibrahim Saulawa as chairman of the new panel.
The panel also has Justices Ignatius Agube and
Godwin Mbaba as members.
A statement by the court’s spokesperson, Saadatu
Musa, said the panel will handle appeals by the PDP
and Benson Akingboye and two others.
The panel will also handle appeals by Diri Adony,
INEC and two others, Mr. Poroye and 10 others and
the appeal by Clement Faboyede.
“You are hereby empanelled to sit and determine
the above appeals in Abuja Division expeditiously.
Fixation of dates to be worked out with the
presiding Justice of the Abuja Division,” Mrs. Musa
quoted Mrs. Bulkachuwa as saying in the letter.
Recall that an earlier appeal ruling in the same
matter was stalled recently after members of the
panel recused themselves from the matter following
allegations of bribery against them by Biyi Poroye.
Biyi had accused the head of the panel, Jummai
Sankey, of taking a N350 million bribe from
Governor Segun Mimiko, who belongs to Mr.
Makarfi’s faction.
The legal tussle is aimed at determining the final
candidate of the PDP for the November 26
Governorship election between the Sheriff and
Makarfi factions of the the party.
