PoliticsRivers Teachers Beg Gov.wike To Pay Them Their 7 Months Owed Salaries by Upritman(op): 11:04am On Nov 02, 2016
As workers and pensioners continue to suffer
severe hardship in Rivers State under the current
administration, Teachers in public schools in the
state have again lambasted the state governor for
consistently deceiving members of the public that
all workers in the state have been paid their salaries
up to date.
The State chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT Lucky Nkpogone maintained that some teachers in Rivers State are been owed seven months salaries even after completing their biometric exercise.
Lucky Nkpogone said teachers in Rivers State are
now finding it difficult to feed due to the refusal of
the state government to pay them their salaries.
The NUT chairman in Rivers State further said
teachers are the majority of civil servants yet to be
paid their salaries since April, 2016.
He begged the Governor to consider their plights
and pay them their due entitlements.
This plea is coming barely two days after the Rivers
State governor Nyesom Wike through his chief of
staff Emeka Woke told a church gathering in Imo
State that the Rivers State government is not owing
any civil servant in the State.
Some other workers in the state who spoke with
Versatile Reporters lamented the wickedness
melted on them even in this time of recession. They
explained that it was unfair for the Governor not to
have paid them despite the huge financial resources
he has so far gathered from internally generated
revenue, statutory allocations and loans.
Versatile Reporters recalls a confrontation between
the State Commissioner of Education and Security
Guards at the model primary schools built by the
Amaechi administration over unpaid salaries. Some
of the aggrieved security guards had claimed to
have been severely beaten and forced to reopen the
school gates by security details attached to
commissioner as they decided to lock the schools in
protest at the commencement of the 2016/2017
academic session.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC says
it is aware that some teachers in the state are been
owed salaries by government.
NLC State chairperson Beatrice Itubo said the union
is mediating to ensure that the State government
clears the backlog of salaries owed civil servants in
the state.
It may interest you to know that some workers have
earlier expressed lack of confidence in the ability of
Labour Unions in the state to compel the state
governor to pay them their owed salaries, accusing
the union leaders of been compromised by the state
government.

the community were beheaded by unknown gunmen
believed to be cultists.
According to respondents who narrated the incident
to Versatile Reporters, the sad event occurred
exactly 10:00PM sunday night, as gunmen stormed
the community and shot dead two young men;
Christian Sirawoo and Temple Oko, took away their
heads, and then left their headless bodies in a pool
of their own blood.
Christian Sirawoo is a relation of the president of
Sport Writers Association of Nigeria, Honour
Sirawoo.
It is believed that the gunmen came in search of
some persons who were close to these boys, and
when they did not see them decided to kill these
innocent ones instead. Two other persons were also

It may interest you to know that Kono Community is
the hometown of former Super Eagle's Captain and
SA to Gov.Wike on Sports Development, Chief
Joseph Yobo.
Rivers State has continued to record series of
gruesome murders despite the granting of state
amnesty recently by the State Governor, Nyesom
Wike to militants, cultists and criminals in the state.
Many residents of the state who spoke with
Versatile Reporters expressed sadness over the
wave of killings that have characterised the state
before, during and after the 2015 general elections,
blaming it largely on desperate and deadly politics
that the state is now known for.

PoliticsOndo 2016: Olusola Oke Not Our Candidate, AD Insists by Upritman(op): 7:15pm On Oct 22, 2016
National Legal Adviser, Alliance for Democracy
(AD), Mr Kehinde Aworele, said the party’s National
Executive Committee (NEC) did not recognise Chief Olusola Oke as its governorship candidate in Ondo state.
Aworele said this on Friday when addressing
newsmen in Akure. Oke, who claims to be AD’s gubernatorial flag bearer for the election coming up on Nov. 26, had in 2012, contested governorship election in the state on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and lost.
He defected to All Progressives Congress (APC),
where he vied for governorship ticket for the November poll but was unsuccessful. He immediately switched to AD and claimed to have picked its gubernatorial mandate for the election.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the
AD National Organising Secretary, Mr Ibrahim Abdollah, had in a communiqué on Oct. 14 in Akure, after the party’s NEC meeting said the party was unaware of Oke’s candidature.
Aworele told newsmen that there were certain
decisions taken solely by the National Chairman of
the party, Chief Joseph Avazi, which ought to have been done by the NEC.
He maintained that the outcome of Oct. 14 NEC
meeting remained binding, saying, “we have said
that Olusola Oke is not known to the party because he does not follow proper procedure of the party, so he is not even a member of AD.
“On the issue of his eligibility, I will not comment on
that because it is pending before the Federal High
Court, Akure.
“But, I can tell you that he is not a member of our
party because he has not complied with the
constitutional procedure of our party by which a
candidate should emerge.’’
He said the party had a candidate named Mr Akin
Olowookere, who purportedly stepped down for
Olusola Oke, but had not formally informed the
party.
Aworele said: “It was some members of the party
who went to the media that we had rescinded our
earlier decision through the communiqué issued by
the party’s NEC.
“There was information that Olusola Oke met some
members who later spoke against our decision but
this cannot be valid.
“As at today, we have passed a vote of no confidence on the national chairman, national secretary and national auditor of the party and it is the NEC of the party that can make a change of that decision.
“I don’t have anything against Oke as a person; he
is a nice gentleman and a member of my profession
but he should not come through the backdoor.’’
He said the party needed more members but that whoever wanted to join should take the proper channel in order not to jeopardise the party pedigree and integrity.
Reacting, Oke’s Campaign Manager, Mr Bola Ilori, said that AD’s legal adviser’s position was a “distraction and entertainment’’.
He was supported by the Secretary of the party in
the state, Mr Sola Agboola, who told NAN that those
against Oke’s candidature were being sponsored by
the opposition.
Similarly, Olowookere said that he had stepped
down for Oke, adding that Aworele was “merely
distracting the teeming supporters of Chief Oke’’.

PoliticsBribery Allegation: PDP Calls For Amaechi's Resignation by Upritman(op): 7:02pm On Oct 21, 2016
The Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has expressed joy at the confessions by some Judges against a former governor of the state now minister of transportation, Rt.Hon.Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
Reacting to the recent accusations by Justices Inyang Okoro and Sylvester Ngwuta against Amaechi, the publicity secretary of the PDP in Rivers State, Samuel Nwanosike said the party in the state has been justified about its argument that the former governor allegedly misappropriated state funds.
Nwanosike who exonerated the Judges of any
wrong doing further said there is a moral burden on
President Muhammadu Buhari to prosecute all
those mentioned in the statements of the two Supreme Court Justices. He urged President Buhari to convince them that He was serious in His anti-corruption war by looking back at all the petitions against Rotimi Amaechi and order a high power investigation into the issues raised against the former governor including the latest from two Justices of the Supreme Court.
He also called for the resignation of AMAECHI as
the Minister of Transportation, adding that his
resignation will give room for proper investigation
of the allegations.
Recall that the Transportation Minister had denied
all the corruption allegations against him saying its
part of a grand plot to defame him and destroy him
politically.

PoliticsShocking: Under Jonathan's Watch 55 Nigerians Stole N1.3 Trillion -- Report by Upritman(op): 2:24pm On Oct 21, 2016
Fifty-five people stole N1.3trillion from the national treasury in seven years under President Goodluck Jonathan’s watch, the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) has said.
The committee said Jonathan tolerated corruption, closed his eyes to graft while his administration fared worse than his predecessors in tackling official sleaze.
In its report of activities from August 2015 to July 2016 presented to civil society organisations (CSOs) by its Executive Secretary, Prof Bolaji Owasanoye, during an interactive session in Abuja Thursday, PACAC said corruption brought Nigeria under to its knees under Jonathan.
The report says: “His (Jonathan’s) tolerance of corruption was reflected in the sunset of activities of anti-corruption agencies under his watch and exponential increase of other vices no doubt fuel by
corruption.
“For example, it is widely believed that insecurity escalated because of the massive embezzlement of $2billion through the Office of the National Security
Adviser under the leadership of Col.Sambo Dasuki, who allegedly diverted the money appropriated to fight insurgency.
“The problems in the downstream sector of the petroleum industry reached zenith with multi-billion dollars subsidy scams while President Jonathan looked the other way.
“At the same time, other vices spread like cancer –kidnapping, import duty waivers, financial recklessness, a profligate legislature, corrupt judiciary, etc. There was no single high profile conviction under his watch yet there were allegations of high profile corruption within his cabinet.
“Jonathan’s legendary comment that stealing is not corruption underscored his perspective on corruption and remains a watershed in the history of anti-corruption crusade in Nigeria.
“Under his watch, corruption brought Nigeria to its knees.”
PACAC said using World Bank rates, one-third of the N1.3trillion allegedly stolen by only 55 people in seven years could have provided 635.18 kilometers of roads, built 36 ultra-modern hospitals in each state, built and furnished 183 schools, educated 3,974 people from primary to tertiary level (at N25.2million per child) and built 20,062 units of two-bedroom houses.
The committee noted that while former President Olusegun Obasanjo established key anti-corruption agencies which led to high-profile convictions even though “his actions were not above board”, the crusade against corruption went comatose from 2007 “largely due to leadership deficit”.
PACAC said corruption is Nigeria’s greatest challenge and is directly associated with the current economic
decline, poverty rates, reduced life expectancy, mortality and deteriorated living standards.
Owasanoye said due to corruption, a few Nigerians were richer than their states, while plea bargaining was abused as people who stole the country dry were given slaps on the wrist and asked to go home.
He said PACAC has designed a Plea Bargain Manual which mandates custodial sentence for all those who plead guilty of looting after returning all they stole.
Other strategy documents developed by PACAC and adopted by the government, he said, are a draft National Anti-Corruption Action Plan and Strategy
Document, Corruption Case Management Manual (full and abridged versions), Corruption Information/Intelligence Sharing Protocol, and the Federal
Sentencing Guidelines for Corruption and other Related Economic Offences.
Others are the Strategic Communication Blueprint for FGN in the Fight Against Corruption, Assets Recovery Strategy Document, Framework for Management and Administration of Recovered Stolen Assets, Draft Bill and Explanatory Memorandum for the Establishment of
Special Crimes Court, amongst others.

CrimeWe Have Been Abandoned, Ese Oruru's Parents Cry Out by Upritman(op): 10:59am On Oct 18, 2016
All seems not to be going on well with the family of
Ese Oruru, the teenage girl that was abducted to
Kano, converted to Islam and impregnated by one
Dahiru Yunusa.
The aggrieved parents of Ese have cried out over
their continued stay at the Police Officer’s Mess,
claiming they have been abandoned, while the
accused is enjoying his freedom.
According to them, the Mess, where Miss Oruru is
nursing her four months old baby, is no longer
conducive for them.
The Orurus, who were in court yesterday, while
thanking the Bayelsa State government for its
support to the family since the saga began, however, told newsmen that their daughter was not getting the kind of attention and care required for a nursing mother.
“We are confined to a room and are not allowed to
go out. We, including the new born baby, stay with our trash bin and the room stinks. The world should know that we are suffering and have been abandoned for no reason.
“People from Bayelsa have been assisting us and
even the police officers, but we want to leave the
Mess for ourhouse, because the place is not a good
place to nurse a new born baby.” the mother, Mrs
Rose Oruru narrated.
Similarly, Ese’s father, Mr. Charles Oruru, appealed

not doing anything in the Police protective custody,
while the accused is enjoying freedom on bail.

she is suffering.
I have called on the Delta State government to

CrimeKillers Of Portharcourt Rights Activist Arrested by Upritman(op): 9:01pm On Oct 17, 2016
Information reaching Versatile Reporters from a top
police source indicate that about 5 of the assassins
who killed port-harcourt based human rights
activist, Barrister Ken Atsuete, have been arrested
by the Nigerian Police Force.
The source further said they have made confessional statements of mind-blowing proportion implicating some top politicians in the state.
Due to the high profile nature of the matter and the
various interests surrounding it, the assassins,
including the one who pulled the trigger are believed to be currently cooling off in the force's headqua
rters in Abuja. The Officers of the IG's Monitoring
Unit were responsible for this arrest.
The police two weeks after the death of the renowned lawyer had raised an alarm over what was termed mounting pressures from the Rivers State Government to release Two of the suspected assassins that were earlier arrested.

PoliticsOndo 2016: AD Reverses Self, Accepts Oke's Candidature by Upritman(op): 7:20pm On Oct 17, 2016
In what appeared as a sudden change of mind, the National leadership of Alliance for Democracy (AD)
on Sunday, said the party has accepted Chief Olusola Oke as the flagbearer of the party for the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo state, retracting its earlier stand against Oke’s candidature.
This reversed position is coming barely 24 hours after the party rejected the candidature of Oke in the forthcoming governorship election in the state, saying the Chairman of the party unilaterally submitted his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The National Vice Chairman (North East) of the party Alhaji Magaji Kwarainga in a press conference held today in Akure, Ondo State capital blamed the controversies surrounding Oke’s candidature on the crisis between the national leaders of the party.
He said some aggrieved persons attempted to use
the crisis within the party over the national chairmanship of Senator Mojisola Akinfenwa to
discredit the emergence of Oke.
He advised that the misunderstanding between
Akinfenwa and some leaders of the party should
not be stretched to destroy the chances of the party, especially in the forthcoming election in the state.
"We believe Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa has
overstayed as the national chairman, if he has any
issue to settle with his southwest people, he should
not use AD as a platform. The party, AD, a national
party is now led by a national chairman, a northerner.
“Alliance for Democracy is a national party, therefore, we will not allow any leader of the party to use the party to settle any disagreement he or she has with the any of the leaders in the southwest”
Dispelling the communique that sacked Oke and
affirming his candidature as the party’s candidate
for the governorship election Kwarainga said, “we
wish to state that we are not in Ondo State to disparage
our great party, AD and its candidate, Chief Olusola
Oke, who, by our findings, is the candidate of the
masses of Ondo State.
“We are here today to correct the impression that
was created in the media about our party and its
governorship candidate. For the purpose of records,
this media briefing becomes necessary.”
He said the meeting earlier, “though not at the
instance of the National Chairman and the National
Secretary, was a purported NEC meeting. It lacks all
constitutional right and that all Northerners were misled.”
Speaking further he said that Oke and his running
mate were by the party's constitution qualified to fly
its flag.
“Therefore, the National Chairman and Secretary of
the party are constitutionally empowered to forward
the name of Chief Olusola Oke to INEC considering
the constraint of time.
“Let us also state that the NEC has no issue and if
there are issues relating to NEC meeting, which is
internal affairs of the party, the issues will be
handled internally.
As we speak here, Chief Olusola Oke’s name has
been duly submitted to INEC as the candidate of our
party,”
Meanwhile some aggrieved members of the party
who spoke on the ground of anonymity to Versatile
Reporters accused those who reversed Oke's
rejection of having been bribed by a man they
referred to as been "extremely and greedily

Christianity EtcPhilanthropy: Pastor Takes Campaign To A Shocking Level In Portharcourt by Upritman(op): 4:41pm On Oct 17, 2016
The General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries, OPM, a fast growing church in Portharcourt, the Rivers State capital, Apostle Dr. Chibuzor Chinyere has taken his philanthropic crusade to a different level by mounting a gigantic billboard in support of his campaign in a central area in Portharcourt.  The vocal christian leader has consistently condemned greedy acts by some men of God who build business empires including schools from church members' monies, yet charge exorbitantly that poor members of their churches are unable to benefit from their ventures.
He sincerely believes and shows a perfect example of the need for pastors to give part of their wealth into helping humanity and society at large.
It may interest you to know that among other philanthropic interventions, his church is probably the only church in Nigeria that owns free restaurants, free schools, free skill acquisition centres and provides lots of financial and economic assistances to it's members and the general public.
Recently, Apostle Chibuzor visited a brothel in Diobu area of Portharcourt and didn't only preach and convert the prostitutes but surprisingly provided an eternal free well furnished accommodation, business grants, foodstuffs and lots of clothing to them.
It is expected that other pastors will follow suit, after all What is the Church of Christ without charity?

PoliticsOndo Poll: We Will Accept Jimoh Ibrahim As PDP Candidate If... - INEC by Upritman(op): 4:05pm On Oct 16, 2016
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has promised to remove the name of Eyitayo Jegede and replace it with that of Ibrahim Jimoh as the PDP Candidate for next month's governorship election in Ondo State.

The chief press secretary to the chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Mr. Rotimi Oyekamni, said yesterday that the commission would abide by the order to accept Ibrahim when served with the valid court judgement, and if there was no overriding ruling from a superior court.

Oyekamni said INEC, as a creation of the law, would obey any order validly made by a court of competent jurisdiction.

“If, indeed, the court has asked us to replace the PDP candidate, we have no option than to obey. That is the tradition, if the court order comes and we get the judgement, then we will substitute because that is a court order. But I am not sure that we have received that judgement. If we have, definitely, we will obey.

“Again, if there is another court order that is superior to the earlier one, we will also reverse our action. As you can see in similar cases, we normally put the prefix, ‘court order’ beside the candidate’s name to indicate its status. I want to
assure you that if there is valid court judgement on any issue, INEC will obey.”

On June 29 2016, Justice Okon Abang had ordered INEC to accept only the names of candidates sent by the faction of the Ondo State Executive Committee of PDP led by Biyi Poroye and Ademola Genty, which has the backing of the Sheriff-led National Working Committee.
Friday's ruling  ordering INEC to accept Jimoh Ibrahim, the nominee of a faction of PDP led by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, as the party’s candidate was simply the result of an application for enforcement.

Meanwhile the PDP national caretaker committee said Jegede remained the party’s candidate for the forthcoming election, stressing that the issue of candidacy is not a matter in the case in question.

As the discontent within the PDP family continues, an inside source has told Versatile Reporters that Gov.Mimiko quickly reached out to Jimoh Ibrahim when he received the news of the Abang judgement with a whooping N2billion but was severely disappointed when Jimoh rejected the offer and insisted that "The Peoples' mandate is not for sale". Gov.Mimiko is at the moment working on other options to resolve the legal tussle for the party's flag so that its chances will not be jeopardised at the election.

PoliticsOndo Poll: AD National Executive Rejects Olusola Oke by Upritman(op): 3:44pm On Oct 14, 2016
Ahead of the November 26 governorship election in
Ondo State, the National Executive Committee of the
Alliance for Democracy has rejected the candidature
of Chief Olusola Oke.
In a communique made public on Friday in Akure after
a meeting, the National Organising Secretary of the
party, Mr. Ibrahim Abdollah, said the party’s NEC was
not aware of Oke’s candidature.
The meeting was presided over by the party’s Deputy
National Chairman, Malam Musa Loyi, and attended
by all the state chairmen and some national officers.
The communique said that the party’s National
Working Committee and Board of Trustees were also
not carried along in arriving at the choice of Oke.
It said, “Chief Olusola Oke is hereby not adopted as
the flag bearer of AD in the Nov. 26 gubernatorial
election.”
The communique also passed a vote of no confidence
on the National Chairman of the party, Chief Joseph
Avazi; National Secretary, Mr Akin Fasogbon; National
Auditor, Mr. Ismaeel Ayodele and South West Zonal
Chairman, Chief Tayo Onayemi.
It said the officers’ actions, in adopting Oke as
candidate, contradicted the party’s constitution,
adding that they had no power to usurp that of the
party’s NEC.
The communique directed the national chairman and
secretary to convene a NEC meeting in Abuja within 21
days, saying failure to do this would lead to punitive
measures against them.
It added that a five-member committee should be set
up to recommend to the party the next line of action
with regards to choosing a candidate.

PoliticsEven In APC, Sen. Joshua Dariye’s Corruption Trial Continues by Upritman(op): 9:58pm On Oct 13, 2016
When the senator representing Plateau Central
Senatorial district, Joshua Dariye few weeks ago
defected to the APC from the PDP many have
accused him of doing so to end his lingering
corruption trial.
However, Versatile Reporters has confirmed that
this may be far from the truth as the travails of the
former Plateau state governor is far from been
over.
Dariye's corruption trial continued on Wednesday,
October 12 before Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the
Federal Capital
Territory High Court, Gudu, Abuja, with a defence
witness, Stephen Igmala, who is the acting General
Manager, Plateau State
Road Maintenance Agency, denying knowledge of
how equipment used by the Agency were procured.
Mr. Igmala, who was examined by the defence
counsel, G. S. Paul, said: ‘‘I started working in the
Agency as a Principal Technical Officer in May
2000. I have no
idea about how, and when the equipment were
procured. We received them from the Ministry of
Works in 2000, and are still
using them till date. We didn’t pay for the
equipment; the state government did.’’
When cross-examined by the counsel to EFCC,
Rotimi Jacobs, Mr. Igmala, told the court that he
became the Agency’s acting general manager in
June 2015, said he was not a member of the
management of the agency, previously known as
Plateau State Direct Labour Agency, when the
equipment and vehicles listed in the Exhibit D 18
that was tendered and admitted by the court were
procured.
Justice Banjoko, thereafter, adjourned to
October 13 for further hearing.
Mr. Dariye is being prosecuted by the EFCC for
allegedly siphoning the state’s ecological fund to
the tune of N1.16 billion.

PoliticsEkiti Assembly Suspends Member Over Secret Meetings With Apc Leaders by Upritman(op): 4:23pm On Oct 06, 2016
The Ekiti state House of Assembly has suspended the former Chairman, House Committee on Information, Hon Gboyega Aribisogan, for 180 legislative sittings.
The embattled chairman was also asked to submit all house documents in his possession to the Clerk of the house and should not be seen within the radius of one kilometre to the house.
Versatile Reporters learnt that his only crime was that he was alleged to have held secret meetings with those considered as enemies of the government with a view to bringing the government of Governor Ayodele Fayose down.
Ahead of the governorship election of the state in 2017, there have been many political calculations by both the ruling and the main opposition party. Obviously this appears to be the first casualty.
We were unable to reach out to the suspended lawmaker as at the time of filing this report.
