plaetton: Yes, but customs and traditions are amenable to education and englightenment. Customs and traditions are dynamic.
But religion, especially in Nigeria, seem almost impervious to education, our educational system . Custom and traditions are static they can only be controlled or manipulated by statute or judicial pronouncement, education does not change a particular custom, people just discard them because they have falling below the standard of a way of life. It cannot be a way of life for me any way because it is prejudicial to my gender. As regard marriage, i detaste customary marriage, it is polygamous and oppressive to the female folks |

I am an example that all the above is false.
The perceived problems that you talk about are all in your head. That itself, is the problem.
No wonder, though, that we cannot build a nation that everyone can be safe and proud of , simply because of our perceived differences in tribe and religion.
Can you see why we think religion is a disease of the mind ? Some customs and traditions are worse than religion, Religion, i can handle, some established customs are just so stupid that they make religion credible. My opinion sir. |

There was no strategic plans and conspiracy whatsoever in the first place to erradicat our tradition, it was difficult for them to manage a people with a barbaric belief system, and in a bid to help us develop they gave us schools, hospital, mechanise farming, industries etc. Orchestrated by religion. We against all odd saw the benefit of civilization abandon our culture of our own free will, and it died a natural death. What you called cultural genocide was just a developmental revolution at the expense of our customs and traditions. We still have a choice to preserve or do away with them. Thank you |

sonmvayina: they are 3 things that define you as a man..your culture, traditions and your religion..if anybody can take these away from you, that person will control you for the rest of your lives. the white men know these things..
let me see if i can go to the very beginning as make a few point..there primary purpose of coming to africa and the new world was to colonise new teritory for their kings with the backing of the pope..these where the portuguese and the spanish kings..
before they came we had our system of government..the ibos as i heard where mainly republicans, the edos had the oba and the yoruba the same thing..had the oba and maintain peace. then in acient edo if your orange cost 5 cowries, all u had to do was put 5 stones and when u come back in the evening your money go correct.
they had a chief preist who lead the community in all the spiritual ceremonies...and was present in coronations..we had a good society and developing at our own pace, we had some not too good practices which i know with time we would have down away with.
enter the white man:..he came seeking land and resources..what better way to pacify the locals then to use religion..those locals who resisted where killed cos they had a better fire power..well they where also enticed with gifts, for the kids..what do you expect with time people started to for get their culture and heritage and then the demonizing of our gods and goddess started and we lost our way..
if they wanted the best for us, why did they not use economics, teach us how to make and invent things so we can also proper economically. now we just watch them develope and grow, all we do is to pray earnestly. they have really done more harm than good.
while they plunder our resources...one by one..ogun and sango go fire them. They saw that we needed something to belief in, our delusion was an insane one, the white man could'nt just reason with us, our reasoning was below the iq of a nomal human being, eg, kill the twins, touture and abuse the widow pray and bow down for peice of metals clay and wood, pollute the environment with decayed food which the gods refuse to eat etc. What more better way than to substitute our gods with their own fabricated one. Atleast it prohibited evil and promised eternal life, but now that it has bin hijacked by business minded individual what else do we do? |

plaetton: We know meaning of genocide. Genocides are hardly accidental.
Is there such a thing as cultural genocide?
Have we been culturally genocided?
If so, are we now cultural zombies (walking dead)? If so, how does cultural zombification affect our current worldviews, attitudes and realities?
How do we come to terms with this, address and redress it? I would'nt use the word genocide for a culture that have outlived its usefulness and almost non existence. Culture as we know is been given new meaning as they can nolonger be exalted above statute, culture actually play less role in our land these days because people no longer submit to it, people are more civilise now and have done away with certain traditions which they term barbaric. Eg, the position of the traditional ruler as an arbiter in a matter has died a natural death with the emergence of the customary and area courts, customary disolution of marriages and custody are now done there, this is to ensure equity, justice and good conscience and i believe this is inline with best international practices, that a custom must pass a repungnancy test. Or die a natural death. So my dear, i believe our culture and tradition is being quickly faced out. My two kobo contribution |

Ubenedictus: they certainly were the "true religion" at the time with the manifest presence of God.
In the wildest sense posible I may define Christian as one who attained salvation through Christ or whose sins were passed over in view of Christ sacrifice. So yeah, in that sense they were the true religion and the sacrifice of Christ did spill over both forward into history and backward into the past. Justifying the old testament saints and bringing salvation to us in the new t.
That is why I am not suprised that even the early Christian practiced exactly the same thing moses did. When a christians was killed in persecution, the early Christians made a point of translating the remains from where ever the pagan put it and reverent bury that temple where the holyspirit was dwelt in hope of the resurrection, but unfortunately d so called modern christians are not taught Church history. "I'm sorry" implies that you've erred in some way/shape/form. It is not the domain of the presumably 'wronged' to apologize. If you're wrong you're wrong. Own up and learn from your mistakes. Grow as a person. I totally agree with you, the op actually make me feel men are bad people and are less human. The man who feeds on sorry even when he is wrong is just a stupppiid dog. Kay17: Wouldn't that be dishonest? You place a thread about furthering dishonesty in the Religion section. What religion do you think endorses this sort of dishonesty? No religion justify's a wrong, @ op Your post is very oppressive, is yet another caculated attempt to enslave and touture a woman in a relationship, we should take responsibility for our action, men should not be too big to say sorry when they are wrong, to evade a wrong is actually a crime. Conceeding to a wrong in the name of peace is bondage because you have just raised the fence of ego and pride, no relationship will sustain on this, i do not see how. |

In fact, the 10 commandments itself is copied and plagerized verbatim from the laws of Maat, the Egyptian God of truth and equity.
The religions of today cannot uphold any genuinely high moral and ethical standards, because they are fake, and contrived on selfish ambitions. You can imagine They said moses collected the ten commandment direct from God "hand to hand" now there is serious problem in the land and we need more laws from the same source to regulate them and no body has been able to go to God and collect more. malvisguy212: first, it was Sarah that encourage Abraham to commit the acts, secondly solomon was obedient to God until pride and riches make him to sin, the time solomon was having affairs with women, by then he was worshipping other gods.
Roman 10:13-21 13 for, “EVERYONE who calls on the name of the LORD WILL BE SAVED .”[ f] 14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”[ g] 16 But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?”[ h] 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. 18 But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did: “Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”[i] 19 Again I ask: Did Israel not understand? First, Moses says, “I will make you envious by those who are not a nation; I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding.”[ j] 20 And Isaiah boldly says, “I was found by those who did not seek me; I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me.”[ k] 21 But concerning Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.”[l]
I believe this book of roman answer your question, verse 13 say everyone who called on the LORD will be saved. Blame the woman ?? Nonsense!!! Don't even quote me again |

plaetton: Ehhm, correction sir. Solomon didn't author anything. The entire book of proverbs was plagerized, no, stolen from an ancient Egyptian book called The Precepts Of Ptah-Hotep, the high priest of Ptah, that predates King Solomon by thousands of years.
Ptah was the father of Egyptian gods, The Heavenly father, Their supreme god.
Quite insightful sir,
You are a good reader, some cultures are worse than religion, if anything does not support equity justice and good conscience, i don't support it.
Whether a religion is stolen or not, its practices must be fair for all, but it seems religion has failed us from all ramification
Ptah is likely the root word for Ju-piter, the formost of the heavens, and also from whence we get the name Peter, a name of a disciple who is believed to have founded the church of the Roman fathers, priests of the heavenly father, whose headquarters was built, and today still standing atop the ancient temple of Ju-Piter. All roads lead back to Egypt.
The ancient hebrew scribes were master plagerists who copied and plagerized every ancient scriptures from every culture they came into contact with. They just simply substituted their tribal deity, Yahweh, in place of the deities of their cultural and religious benefactors. |

The best a President can do is to persuade members of NASS to amend the law guiding RMAFC. Otherwise, he can only make empty rant. He can't even change what his VP, Ministers, SAs, SSAs or even himself earn. He can only decide to forfeit a percentage of his income. As for the NASS, I bet you that any bill to amend the law guiding RMAFC will be killed upon arrival. The legislative arm of govt is really useless to this nation, during the military era there was no legislative arm it was rather fused with the executive, let the bill be propose and if salary is not reviewed downward then the supreme military council has to rear its ugly head and make them disappear. The bible has examples of great men whose graves are dug and their remain translated to a different location, it is biblical.
Ex 13:19 And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him; for Joseph had solemnly sworn "God will visit you; then you must carry my bones from here"
here is an example of the biblical practice of translating the remains of the dead. Catholics sometimes translate the remains of the dead if necessary from their previous graves to consecrated grounds.
There is nothing sinful about translating the remains of the dead.
Have a nice day. So because moses took bones it becomes a doctrine to remove the dead from their resting place even when half decayed, does it make sense to you The verse you cited did not say by extention that christians should vandalise graves, it is rather an act of disrespect to the dead.
