akthedream: You forgot so points..
1,Asset declaration.
2,Only about 2 people were able to call in.
3.PDP patrons that are being shielded fro EFCC and co
4.Was Azazi's sack due to incompitence?
On asset declaration, statutorily, assets are declared to the CCB but declaring it to the public is discretionary. 2.Given the large coverage and viewership that the media chat received, you'd be foolish not to expect jammed lines. 3. I'm at a loss as to what you mean by "PDP patrons". 4. Azazi was sacked because there was need for a change in security strategy and personnel. And you'd agree that change is good

He used the words publicly declare assets. The constitution demands that he declare his assets to the code of conduct bureau and he did that. However he did not declare it to the public. Now if the members of the public want to know, they can demand it from the Code of Conduct Bureau in line with the provisions of the Freedom of information Act which was also signed into law promptly by this administration after its passage by the National Assembly. Jonathan did not have to declare his assets to the media as this would amount to playing to the gallery

Kobojunkie: I believe the very first thing we need to stop doing, as Nigerians, is LYING on BEHALF of politicians. Are you suggesting that a trip to a photo-op that many in the environmental community now deem a failure, was part of president's duties but staying back to fight the scourge blowing Nigerians to smithereens is not?

Do you know that many other countries stayed away from Brazil . . . we are talking countries dealing with their own crisis. . . but nothing close to what Nigeria is dealing with at the moment. Greece and Spain of course stayed away. United States, England, Germany, stayed away, about 20 others also did. Why? because many of them were busy tackling issues such as their economy, something that seemed to be top on their priorities at this time. Nigeria's issue? Terrorism but instead, our President flies off to an Environmental summit.

Now, when you talk of Government grinding to a halt, I wonder if you know the reason why we have a vice president at all. Nothing stopped or diminishes Government if the President sent the VP in his stead. I mean even Yar adua, who did not somehow trust Jonathan, at least knew to send someone else in his stead (his wife on occassion) so he could stay back in Nigeria and pretend he cared for the people. Now I am holding brief for that man but he did get some things right. Do Presidents take up arms themselves? No. That's the work of the military an he said quite clearly that not travelling to Brazil would send wrong signals to the international community and this would be bad for the image of a Country in dire need of foreign investment. Boko Haram is bad enough as it takes the lives of innocent Nigerians. To deny the rest of the Country the benefits of foreign investors on account of the killings in the North will only take us backwards

Which Boko Haram leader? The ones the US only this week put on terrorist list abi which one again? No prominent Boko Haram leader was killed. Those are on the terrorist list now. The man that was killed was ALLEGEDLY linked. According to those who killed him, he was a leader that masterminded an attack but even on Aljazeera, the reporter said that was the information they got and there was ofcourse no way to verify the claims since that was all our authorities wanted to say of the man.

I remember back in 2009, we were told the leader of Boko Haram had been killed. To this day, no one knows what the truth really was. We know a man was killed, and his family later won a case for over 100 million for his brutal killing, and that is that. Who is to say this killing will not end the same way? Will we ever know the truth of what really happened? Not sure but if you do find out let us know however don't come lying to those of us who also read the same reports on these cases as you do in the papers.

Really? That you made this statement here yourself leads me to believe you do not have faith in the President you are desperately trying to sell us here. So I pretty much don't need to add anything.
PoliticsRe: GEJ Presidential Media Chat - Live Channels TV by uzomagic(m): 11:57pm On Jun 24, 2012
Kobojunkie: Actually he did make light of the security situation, especially when he suggested that his trip to brazil was to show BokoHaram that he was still in Charge. Essentially he left the country, IGNORING the plight of the Nigerian people -- people continued to be blown to smithereens while he was away -- so he could prove some moot point to Boko Haram, a group that probably does not watch him on TV given that most of their attacks are not around what happens in ABUJA but whenever they seem to want to.

He is back and Boko Haram is not taking a break or acknowledging his return in anyway. So essentially he left while the country was 'burning' and came back with the country still 'burning', how does that tell you of the significance of his trip to those who he claimed he was trying to prove a point to?

If that statement had been made by, say the American President or any other civilized Nation, he would have heard from the people almost immediately. But this is Nigeria where lives are near nothing and blood pretty much seems to flow like water.
Firstly, the Brazil trip was also part of his duties as President and he had to attend and prevent the entire business of government grind to a halt on account of the activities of miscreants. Also, in his absence,a prominent Boko Haram leader was killed and another arrested; a clear indication that the relevant institutions concerned with security continued to discharge their duties in spite of his absence. If the President were in the Country, he'll not still have have been involved in the combat operations. Boko Haram's activities are hate crimes and they're difficult to handle.

Action speak louder than words!
You want action, you got it; power sector- NIPP, Bulk trader agreement for gas supply, Mambila and Zungeru power plants, distribution deals with General Electric, Siemens, and investments by 131?countries from around the world, Port reforms have made the process of clearing goods has become a much easier venture, In education 9 new Universities have been established to meet the increasing demand for tertiary education. In security, govt has increased funding to security agencies, given greater support and renewed impetus to the efforts to meet the Nation's security challenges.

The President never made light of the security situation. He also said that he does not want the death of any Nigerian. Government business is broad and diverse and security, though a priority is not the only business of government. Progress is being made in power, infrastructure, education, agriculture, and many other facets of our National life. The security issue remains a sore point and the recent shakeup in the security apparatus of the Country is a sincere indication that govt isnnotnresting on her oars. Remember that acts of terrorism are hate crimes and there's no end to man's capacity for hatred. Let's give Jonathan a chance. There's still three years left to assess this administration.

bayooooooo: Perhaps! But GEJ is not just it. He displayed a petty comprehension of issues at stake. His responses were mired in myopic thinking and his position on rule of law was an insult on the sensibilities of Nigerians. His responses were far below average and somewhat unbecoming of a PhD holder.
He's natural, sincere, humble and straightforward. We can't fault that. he was quite lucid on power and the bulk purchase trader agreement which he articulated were also simple enough to educate the dumbest of people. On the rule of law, he also admitted that it was normal for heads of government to meet and address members of parliament and that he was yet to see the resolution of the house. And he would act accordingly when he received the resolution. Maybe you'd expect him to use the AIT report or Nation Newspaper headlines as resolution.

GAR3TH: To be truthful i found it troubling that he "told a story" to answer every question, even the simple yes or no ones. I was expecting short, brief and to the point answers in response to challenging questions. It didn't feel like a presidential Q&A but rather a "presidential social chat room". Why cant Nigeria media grill the president the same way foreign media grills Obama, David Cameron etc. they basically asked him a question and let GEJ answer it without any rebuttals, follow up questions or opposition views. All the NTA people did is nod their head and move on to the next question. The who point of this "media chat" was to Task the president and hold him accountable on what he has done since office. as far as i'm concerned these NTA guys failed.
Another blatant display of ignorance. Did you not observe that the panelists were drawn from various media houses? Is the Maupe Ogun of the popular "sunrise daily" fame on Channels tv also an NTA staff? I'm embarrassed.

Your Northerners who you pretend are all behind this, are themselves trying hard to make sense of what is going on and why instead of getting better, it is becoming NORMAL for the whole nation, and the world, to watch the dead carcasses of their loved ones strewed all over the streets.

While detractors and their backers, Nigerians must realise that there is a Vice-President who is as qualified as the President and can deputise for him in his absence. Our constitution has taken care of this. The mission of Boko Haram is to ensure that the President is seen to have failed. To fail to attend this conference will prove them right. Boko Haram and their ideological disciples must not be glorified. Nigeria will move forward.

. Governance is broad and complicated. Both the trip to Brazil and the and the security situation fall within the purview of the government and since he will not be directly involved in the peacekeeping operations, but will be directly involved in the delibrations and submissions in Rio, business of government cannot be left to rot because a few misguided, politically sponsored, merchants of terror have vowed to unleash terror on the Nation. With advancements in information and communication technology, instructions on deployment of troops, military personnel and their coordination can indeed be given from anywhere. The minister is correct in his assertion and those who wish to politicise the trip do so with sour and malicious intentions.

President Jonathan’s Delegation To Brazil Is World’s Largest, At 116!

As Nigerians lament the abrupt departure of President Goodluck Jonathan for Brazil in the middle of violence and counter-violence in the North, SaharaReporters has gathered that the Nigerian ruler arrivedat his destination with 116 men and women, the largest national delegation, contrary to his pledge in January to travel at less weight and expense.

Our sources say the team is made up of:
• 25 personal aides. Sahara reporters has a well documented history for being the hub of sensationalism in online media. This latest report may not be unconnected with their penchant for the surreal. Like most of their stories, this must be taken with a huge shovel of salt
• 18 aides of Patience Jonathan
• 2 members of the National Assembly
• 5 Ministers
• 2 Governors, and
• 63 officials from the Ministries of Enviroment, Foreign Affairs, National Planning and Petroleum Resources.

The junket will continue for Mr. Jonathan next week Thursday when he will be in Brussels for the World Customs Conference, scheduled for June 28-30. He will be taking with him about 57 people, including 26 aides, 3 Ministers, 8 members of the National Assembly, and 20 other government officials.

From June 25 to 29, Mrs. Jonathan will be in Maryland, United States, accompanied by 36 people: 18 aides, 4 wives of Governors, and 14 friends and associates.

Nigerian political parties yesterday lambasted Mr. Jonathan’s decision to leave for Brazil, just hours after violence and counter-violence had reportedly resulted in over 74 dead and hundreds injured. On Sunday, the president called on God to intervene in the violence.

But he has also promised to see to the end of the Islamic militant group militant Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati Wal-Jihad, widely-known as Boko Haram, this month. After he made that pledge in April, the militants promised to make June a bloody month in order to prove that Jonathan has no power over them. Some helpless Christians have in the past few days resorted to reprisal attacks against Muslims.

Only yesterday, as Jonathan hopped on one of his gleaming new executive jets and left the chaos in Nigeria behind, Boko Haram notified SaharaReporters that it would launch even more devastating attacks on churches and government buildings in the coming days.

The group’s contact person said Boko Haram had line up about 300 suicide bombers to attack churches in Southern Kaduna and in Plateau State in its determination to exact considerable revenge for the Muslims killed in Christian reprisals in the last few days.

if u needed a GEJ to tell u that the Country was in a bad state before he came, then u must either not be a Nigerian or u're a toddler. Barth Nnaji's interview is both incisive and revealing. Nigeria had about 2300MW in 1999, and today it has peaked at about 3200MW.
PDP govt has only added 1000MW in all the 13yrs of her rule, what makes you think PDP, GEJ or is it Barth, is serious and committed to any power reform?
A govt that is only thinking about generation without mapping out a well laid strategy for gas production and distribution is only joking. Are they going to be transporting the gas (that is not even available) via trucks to the NIPP's or have they started laying down pipes for gas distribution?
Power sector reform my foot!
Guys, the so called improvement you see today in generation is simply an overworking the systems currently available to deceive nigerians. The systems will soon pack up and we'll be back to square one.
Firstly, you have chosen to ignore the well articulated views and those who have gone the extra mile to reproduce the entire interview. I think that the processes and strategies put forward by the minister are logical enough. We should at least give him a chance and wait for his proverbial demise before u grant him an internment. And I think that all citizens should understand before criticizing

Ovaiegbe: Thanks for referring us to the minister's interview. It was not only frank but realistic. The reforms required in PHCN are time dependent and most of the inherited NEPA infrastructure were either obsolete or dilapidated. And again we had the problem of institutionalized corruption within PHCN.
The transmission line running from Aloji to Calabar via Itu for example has only one set of lines instead of two right from when it was first installed probably in the 70s. The consequence of this is that when that line has a fault, there is no back up or alternative supply line until the fault is fixed. This problem was neither created by OBJ, Yar'Adua (RIP) or Jonathan and fixing it may require installing entirely new towers and line.
Haven read the Minister's interview I am convinced that they are on top of the situation and that in the very near future a lasting solution would have been put in place.
On the issue of gas supply, the minister has already said that we are blessed with an abundant reserve of it (which we carelessly flare everyday in our oil production companies, the petroleum ministry needs to tell us what plans they have to make natural gas available to Nigerians (not just PHCN) for our every day use.
For my fellow citizens, we need to learn to conserve energy and use electricity wisely. The era of leaving for work with are your security lights on is fast running out. Using quack electricians to make connection in our homes and offices is detrimental to the distribution facilities. Let all hands be on deck and let braze up for better days in the power sector.
I am beginning to like this topic and @ oveigbe they will soon label you government agent( hahahahahah). I think I should join issues with people on this topic.
