ndu_chucks: The authorities have been able to conduct free and fair elections whenever its a soecial election wherein only one state at a time is involved. They do this by displaying a very heavy millitary/police presence.Well, we know our electoral system is still far from perfect but credit must be given to GEJ for his genuine commitment to electoral reforms. In 2011, despite his candidacy, President Jonathan demonstrated a deep sense of fairness and neutrality in appointing Prof. Jega as INEC boss and the elections were widely hailed as reasonably transparent, credible by local and foreign observers. Subsequent elections in Edo,Anambra, Kogi and now Ondo have received wide acclaim for being credible, free, fair and reflective of the choices of the electorate. Clearly, GEJ's commitment to transforming our electoral system is genuine and worthy of commendation. At this rate, Nigerians can be assured that the 2015 general elections will contested and conducted in an even more transparent, credible, free and fair atmosphere. GEJ is silently and steadily transforming Nigeria and it can only get better. |
Yomieluv: Jonathan should use his resource to contain the crisis at home in Nigeria. We agree that we have our own challenges but that does not in any way divest us of the 'big brother' role in Africa. In this case, GEJ should be hailed for being proactive as the fundamentalist militia provide training, arms and explosives used to cause mayhem by BH. Fastracking peace efforts in Mali will go a long way in cutting links between BH and al-qaeda and help improve security on our shores |
take dat: Shame on all those who organised prayer sessions for her recovery while she claimed she wasn't hospitalised and Shame on Dame for telling us this bold lie after God had intervened in the process of her recovery.shame on u too for making an issue out of a non-issue. Shame on u for not realising that in the 21st century, the place of a 1st lady in democratic government and governance is non-existent. Shame on u for not realising that nowhere in the world does the wife of any Chief Executive wield any powers that can considerably affect the running of the country or corporation. I'm led to believe however that ur last comment must have been made under the influence of alcohol, drugs or a strong hallucinogen. But above all, it's a SHAME! |
MAYOWAAK: Once again, we must impress it upon compatriots who are validating the civic process by asking appropriate questions about the Presidency's handling of the first lady's health safari - and the attendant circus of her arrival - to ignore the Stockholm Syndromed paracletes of power who are all over social media trying to lay a guilt trip on conscientious Nigerians. How can you descend so low? Why ar...Mr. President, who we all elected by an overwhelming mandate is accountable to us and can be held liable for a plausible reason to be away from the Country. Fortunately, unlike the late Umaru Musa Yar'Adua's absence, her absence or presence has no bearing whatsoever on government business as Nigerians did not vote for her or is she accountable to anybody except her spouse. As for ur sympathy, it is neither desired nor wanted. It doesn't change anything. And without it, she has returned safely to the Country after her "rest". Now go get a job and stop idle talk. |
Sam Milla: Dear Mrs Jonathan,Sadly, u have failed to realise that she is not an elected or appointed public office holder and really owes u no explanation for her absence. She neither has access to public funds nor can she hide it in Germany or anywhere else. This childish, emotional rant is as unnecesary as it is uncalled for. In her absence, heaven has not fallen nor have national issues been affected and neither has government business suffered as a result. Only the idle, psychotic and ignorant have decided to make an issue of her absence or arrival. It is thus ridiculous that u have decided to tow this path of infamy and ignorance. Change ur ways! |
It is a criminal case.Tinubu ought to be arrested in order to throw more light into his confessions about doling out millions of pounds sterling for bribing the Ondo gubber case. He needs to tell the police where he got such huge sums of money from and the recipients of the said bribe money. Simple |
The Rogue Party is at it again . Typical A.C.N led by a legendary criminal, the Asiwaju himself. Baba Ahmed Tinubu! |
Toks2008: MUST WE IMPORT?We must not import. Importation kills local industry. That is why govt seriously desires to end this subsidy regime which remains a high boost for importation. If you don't remove subsidy. Importation will continue to be the real deal. No body will be willing to invest a kobo in private refineries. And the place of private sector driven markets cannot be overemphasized especially in a country that has a bad public sector attitude. But till we remove hand from subsidy, we will continue to import as Okija juju rightly pointed out |
rahman137: U got it wrong all wrong, even NOI, SLS said it that deregulation will not reduce price of petrol den why all d bullshit. pls oo abeggi if den no give me subsidy wetin else dey wan give. security na me dey provide dt one, water me drill borehole, power me get generator, even road na community effort. pls o without subsidy wetin government go dey doYou don't understand it that way. What is subsidy in the first place? Government pays our balance of importation and selling at regulated prices. When you cease to regulate price, that is deregulation. No real private investments can take place in any industry where there is such regulation of prices. just like telecoms, aviation sector etc, govt doesn't need to fix price and pay for the balance. Market forces determine price. Prices are usually high. But it will gradually come down due to competiton amongst local private refineries that will be attracted by the removal of subsidy on importation. The fear we have about high prices in a post subsidy era will pale into insignificance in the face of prospects for private sector participation in refining. Until you remove subsidy, no body no matter how rich will invest in refinery in Nigeria. They rather go and establish such refineries abroad and make cool money from importing refined products from there. It is simple economics. Remove subsidy. It will make importation less attractive because there will not be anymore subsidy funds to share. Oil marketers/trader companies including those earlier licensed by OBJ to start private refineries will now move to build refineries locally. The drive is to crash price and have an edge over other competitors. At the long term, it is expected that pump price will come as low as 40 Naira. Millions of jobs will also be created. And we will all live ever happily after. |
Of course. It is high time. The issue has been over flogged. It is a gateway to deregulation. If subsidy goes, private refineries will start because there's nothing else attractive about importation. When these private refineries become fully operational, there will not be any more stories of PENGASSON. and oil marketers conspiracy. The price of fuel will also come down drastically. Competition will ensure product availability and employment. |
cap28: i think Jonathan needs to come clean -he knows whats going on but he's hiding behind all these pathetic lies. What do you mean by come clean? Why are you guys poke nosing on the health status of a president's spouse? How is it your business. Isn't it sufficient information that she is sick and resting? What more details do you want to hear? Was patience elected? Or is she a public servant at the national level ? Why this hairsplitting about the health status of someone who is a nonentity according to Nigerian Constitution. How has Madam Patience absence affected governance in any department in Nigeria? Which file is awaiting Patience Jonathan's consideration? What business of governance does Saharareporters want Madam patience Jonathan to come and handle? I have seen people make all kind of useless comments. Some people even claimed they deserve to know because it is their money. Who told you? Did you see any voucher being raised for her medical trip? Or you saw an allocation in the 2012 budget for her medical bills? So beyond presidency, patience Jonathan does not have money to undergo a medical trip abroad? Does the president no longer earn salaries and allowances? How is it your business to query how the president decides to spend his allowance? How is it your business if the president decides to spend his allowance on his family's medical trip abroad? Jobless people. |
Talk of a responsive leader. Talk of Jonathan. Always quick to identify with the plight of his people. I believe you Mr president. |
Puntae: Now I move a motion for a formal disbandment of and disassociation from Sahara Reporters, the news they emit are indeed dangerous to our health and are likely to make us (Nigerian) retards... In the light of this, I, my future wife and children shall distance ourselves from this plague called SAHARA REPORTERS!Seconded |
These lies keep manifesting daily. It's unfortunate. |
mtcheeeew! Vists thread....sees Saharareporters and lies trending. Nothing new...I'm off. ![]() |
GEJ is well positioned to get my overwhelming support as President should he decide to run in 2015 |
Saharareporters is to lies what a bakery is to bread |
It's rather unfortunate that a small matter of the perspective from which a picture was taken has become an issue for name-calling and denigration of our Nation and her leader by idle arm-chair critics who out of lack of substance to their endless criticism, resort to the mundane and the ridiculous. The Hall in which the General Assembly of the United Nations holds is a very massive one and most times, the front row seats are usually vacant. The cameraman simply took a picture from the perspective he could get and some nincompoops come here to write that the President was addressing an empty hall. |
emindu: THERE comes a time in the history of a people when God blesses them with a leader with a particular mandate. For the people of Abia, aptly called God’s Own State, there is every indication that the supplication of the people unto their Maker for a divine lifting of afflicted yoke caused by long period of political and economic slavery has attracted divine intervention.Hmmmmm |
I think it is now fairly obvious that ACN is nothing but A.C.T= Action Congress of Tinubu because no Organisation that has the interest of Nigeria at heart will make this kind of rash, spontaneous and childish statement. Far from being a trainee President, GEJ is a tailor-made President, by God's design and the overwhelming mandate conferred on him by a vast majority of right-thinking Nigerians. GEJ, through his experiences, circumstances of his gradual rise from a very humble background to the Nation's top job is eminently qualified to lead Nigeria on the path of genuine transformation and development. Firstly, GEJ's Presidency addresses the "JUSTICE" question in Nigeria's Political firmament as it was absurd that the South-South region that had been the mainstay of the Nation's economy for the preceding 50 years before his emergence as President in 2010 had not had a shot at the Nation's Presidency. In addition, only for the 2nd time in our National life and history, we had the luxury of a graduate as President; the first being the brief tenure of the late President Musa Yar'Adua. GEJ took it yet a step further by being the 1st PhD holder to assume the reins of power. In his brief spell thus far, the Country has witnessed steady growth with milestones in Power, Education, Infrastructure, and Human Capital Development. The Country's landscape is dotted with developmental projects and it is highly commendable how well he has done in this brief spell thus far. Clearly, Nigeria and Nigerians are experiencing Fresh Air and we don't want it to end anytime soon. Ride on GEJ, |
ubandire: I have read through that report. There is nothing there to suggest that Maku apologized to the senate remorsefully.Right from his days as a students union activist, Maku is a man of truth and courage. |
ACN is not a party to be taken seriously in anything democracy. Apart from Lagos, which other ACN state has demonstrated a capacity to deliver good governance. They represent everything bad about democracy. From thuggery to Godfatheridm and sectional politics. We will never have the misfortune of an ACN presidency |
ubandire: When a govt is set to work, it's easy to know. Every department devises a means to flow with the vision. This tour is a remarkable initiative by a Minjster of information who is keen on transformation.Seconded. |
Mandelaguy: Maku spoke as a principled man,he was quoted out context which is now a regular thing in Nigeria. |
diva_tosin: These senators are just a bunch of clowns. I wonder if David Mark passed secondary school Government at all.David Mark went to school...... Military School ![]() |
For the sake of clarity, I want to reproduce the excerpts of that report to show that Maku is right and stood by his words and just gave a political apology inorder not to cause an executive/legislative rift. Brilliant man. "The Senate thereafter summoned Maku to appear before it to clarify his statement. The minister, while appearing before the Senate Committee on Information, had said: “I did not in any way intend to disparage or disrespect the authority of the National Assembly by my comment. ``I was just trying to explain to the journalists without having to make a declaration on behalf of the President (Goodluck Jonathan). ``If that comment has been misinterpreted, I tender my apologies to the Senate because personally, I have no reason to disrespect the National Assembly. “I was at a forum and journalists threw a question at me, as to whether the government would cancel the introduction of the N5000 note as a result of the Senate resolution. ``Now, I was pressed by the press and journalists were looking for headlines. The answer was not the position of the federal government and I took efforts to explain to my colleagues.’’ Maku, however, told the Senators that he was not misquoted by the press. On whether the resolutions of the Senate were binding or not, Maku said he was aware that if the nation was at war, the National Assembly had the power to extend the life span of a government." If you read the bolded critically without bias, you will be convinced beyond reasonable doubt that Maku stands by his statement. He just wants to make it clear that statements credited to him should not be associated with his principal-Jonathan hence the cosmetic apology. He never said he was sorry for saying what we all know is the truth. He stands courageously by his statement. He said clearly that the press did not misquote him meaning that he said it and stand by it. But for the sake of Jonathan, if the statement is misinterpreted as executive slight on legislature then I apologise. |
David Mark's comments are rash, childish and unworthy of a man of his age, experiences and position as President of Nigeria's foremost legislative house. It is unfortunate that after having spent 13 years as a Senator with five of those years as the Senate helmsman, Bonaventure Mark is yet unaware of the role of the legislature, their limitations and challenges. It is however understandable that the comment is coming from someone whose introduction to governance came on the platform of the despotic military where he held sway for decades, feeding fat on the Nation's resources without any form of checks and balances. From his infamous "telephone is not for the poor" statement as minister of information and communication to his involvement in the even more unpopular annulment of June 12 elections, Mark has shown with this latest rant that democratic tenets are yet to fully sink into his militarised psyche. Maku must be commended for his maturity, humility and genuine democratic credentials in apologising for telling the truth and saying it as it is. I think Mark is the one whose comments are not only childish and out of tune with democratic reality but also very CARELESS |
dedeike: Beyond the drama, the town hall meeting was a wonderful platform for interaction between the government and the governed. It brought home the messsage that we are in a democracy where the citizens deserve the right to know how they are governed.Maku is working. He may turn out to be our best information minister ever |

Countryman93: The bad side to the road constructions is increase in rent. The Bwari road from Dutse junction has been completed down to the Nigerian Law school. Many people now rush to such places to escape the big rents in AMAC. it takes lesser time to Acess the city centre from Bwari so it's no big deal stayinng in all those satellite towns located in area councilsThankfully, the tour has revealed ongoing projects in satellite towns like Kubwa, Bwari and Gwagwalada. When completed, satellite towns will have the same level of infrastructure as the city centre. People won't mind paying more to live in areas with better infrastructure and ease of access to the City Centre via the massive road expansion and construction projects ongoing on most of the roads to the satellite towns.TRANSFORMATION IS REAL!!! |
