unfair comparison in terms of tax generation cos lagos have more inhabitants & business compared to 'em states in the region mentioned.
They said Kano has more inhabitants. So, how much tax does Kano generate I hope Kano Governor can tell us? At least we should be able to compare those two states.
Here's the math
Lagosian's montly "productivity" = 14 billion naira / 10million persons

= 1,400 naira per person

Kanoans montly "productivity" = ?? billion naira / 10million persons

=?? naira per person

@poster,
while I am not a direct advocte of trinity,i will like to say that although 1+1+1 is truly not equal to 3 but you can NOT use it to disprove trinity.
Take for instance when conception takes place and a woman gets pregnant, 1sperm +1 ovum actually forms the baby. When you look at the baby (say Umaru), you see Umaru and not half sperm half egg.

The bible (and ALL religion's books-- Quran Inclusive) may contain lots of things that are easily classified as myths. However,we can't see the sun if we don't open our eyes.

Both religious people and scientists can have very flawed interpretations of our existence and the realities of our world when they worship either science or religion. Science does not make categorical or conclusive pronouncements on the nature of religion; nor can people be so brash as to try and make their religion the authority over science. What is unfortunate to observe is when people try to assume that science is the answer to all questions about the world; and equally sad is when religious people (whether Christians, Muslims, Jews, Sikhs, etc., etc., etc.,) try to make their own religion the final authority about everything in the world.
viaro my pal,
my views may not be too far away from yours.
And I really like the way you analyze issues without using mere assertions. I hope we all learn from it.Keep it up bro.
Christianity EtcRe: Why Christians Ignorantly Oppose The Theory Of Evolution by VALIDATOR: 8:10am On Nov 05, 2009
@viaro,
thank you for the keen observation and correction on my use of the word literarily instead of literally.

viaro:
For me, there is a difference between literarily and literally:

* literarily - in a literary manner, in regards to literature

* literally - in the exact manner that cannot be interpreted any other way

The Biblical records in many places are both literary and literal to me; but not so in some other parts. These other parts may be parabolic, symbolic, or allegorical (in which case they are addressing general truths in principle). What I believe does not have to be authority for anyone, for the views I have are based on my own understanding and deductions from what I read in the Biblical texts. Certainly, you may have issues with many people, and that is especially based on what they read and how they interpret those texts.

I think you might have meant to say "literally true", rather than literarily true - the latter would be saying that something is true according to the style of literature. . . which is not the same as literality. Either way, it is not only the literature that should be examined - but the examiner himself ought to be scrutinised as well. This is true especially where we all are reading the same set of data and yet coming up with diverse interpretations (this is also the case even in science). Some people may see things differently from others, or a few other people might have missed some small details which led them to draw shaking conclusions. Either way, it is not the documents or texts that might be at fault, but rather the interpreters also might have a problem understanding a certain point due to any number of things. . including personal bias.

No, it is not "more correct" to draw that kind of assumption, because you may be doing so hastily where you have not understood anything in them yourself.
Why is it not more correct? Do those myths make any literal sense to you? Why should your own interpretation be different from that of any other christian if you are all truly guided by the same God/holy spirit who is suppose to know all things?

By the way why is it that only well educated christians that have the power of logic/science at their disposal adopt your kind of views on creation/adam/messiah? Your view is a very simple one and here is its summary IMO:

The Bible is the word of God and every other knowledge gained through science (or other means) can not make any part of it invalid.

viaro:
Lol, I understand that the above is put forward by some people - and since that's not my idea, I can't answer roll-call on their behalf.

However, there are two huge issues with such reasoning. In addition to the outline I gave earlier, here are a few observations that would help wrap this up:
(a) 4 Those who reject the perfection offered by the messiah will eventually be purnished eternally (or destroyed).
As regards (a) above taken from your quote, I wonder what some people who hold that view have to say about those who never heard anything about any Messiah because they lived in very far places from the Jewish lands, and also had very diverse cultures from Jewish society, as well lived long before the emergence of the Jews?

As Christians, we have long dwelt on the idea that every thing must begin and end within the epoch of a convenient 6,000 years - from Adam to Abraham to Moses and the Jews to Jesus. That is not even what the Bible teaches. .  nada, zilch. I have tried to hint that when we Christians open our Bibles and study it carefully, we cannot deny the fact that there are indications of a world older than 6,000 years counting backwards from the present, as well the fact that there are indications of other beings closely resembling humans before even Adam was created. Now, all this may come as a shock to many Christians holding a conveniently traditional interpretation of the creation accounts in all 66 books of the Bible, but such traditional views are not what viaro believes.
(b). "But evolution theory implies that there was no perfect  Adam who acquired a sinful nature"
Okay; but how does 'evolution' come to such conclusions? How does the evolution theory begin to test for sin and perfection on spiritual and moral issues? Where does evolution begin to argue about matters that are completely outside its domain? How does evolution tell you anything about the spiritual nature of anybody for that matter?

When people make conclusions in such niggardly manner, it's probably best to let them continue to pamper themselves on such vacant assertions. .  until serious questions begin to surface for them to answer. Of all the arguments that could be offered for evolution with regards to the question of sin, spirituality, morality, etc., one needs to calmly think through about how any acclaimed evolutionist came to such conclusions about issues that he has no clues about.
The bold part is particularly interesting!
Truly, evolution can not rule out the fact that one particular homo-sapien had a God-like nature (made in His image) since it is beyond the scope of science.
I don't have issues with your views because they imply to me that you do not take biblical records literarily (I hope I am right). I however have issues with people who insist that the records in the bible are literally true.

If something is literarily true, why should it not be subjected to literary examination. the records in the bible doesnt make literary sense to me.
It is more correct to say that literarily they are myths/half truths/fantasies/exaggerations.
Christianity EtcRe: Why Christians Ignorantly Oppose The Theory Of Evolution by VALIDATOR: 2:35pm On Nov 04, 2009
@viaro,
I see you got the idea but may have missed my main point. The need for a messiah was anchored on these: w

1 The first man (Adam) was perfect
2 Adam acquired a sinful/imperfect nature i.e sin entered the world through one man
3 Only a perfect messiah(Jesus) can restore today's man to being perfect again. i.e sin can only be taken away through one man-- a perfect messiah
4 Those who reject the perfection offered by the messiah will eventually be purnished eternally (or destroyed).

So,it means that the reason for the messiahship of Jesus is to restore man to being perfect

But evolution theory implies that there was no perfect  Adam who acquired a sinful nature and needs a perfect Jesus for redemption of sin to restore the man to perfection. That is my main point. That is why christians reject the theory of evolution.
Christianity EtcRe: Why Christians Ignorantly Oppose The Theory Of Evolution by VALIDATOR: 11:08am On Nov 04, 2009
@viaro
I think the main reason Why Christians reject the theory of evolution is that although the theory of evolution does not rule out the possibility of a creator. However, by implication,it rules out the need for a Messiah/Jesus that will save us from our sins since there was no perfect Adam.
Can we thrash this out ?

Well, an explanation may be that WAEC is typically taken exclusively by SS3 students of secondary schools, while anyone can get a NECO form and take the exam. It may just well be different sample spaces you're comparing.

I agree with you, though. It's an abysmal result.

Both WAEC and NECO May/June are taken only by SS3 Students. The one anybody can pick the form and take are the November/December versions of both WAEC and NECO. The sample spaces compared are almost the same.

If a certificate is to be respected,it must first validate its own accuracy.

However, i think if we stick to the thread, we can make a lot of progress in our search.

Guys, why not let's stop all dis bull sh!t and let's not derail the thread.
The thread says Why Christians Ignorantly Oppose The Theory Of Evolution
I think it is because of the following reasons

1 Accepting it means that you agree that the earth is more than 6,000 years old ---- since many fossils are more than that age
2 Accepting it means that you agree that man was not made from sand/dust on the sixth day(Friday i.e the day b4 sabbath).---- although many christians now take the 6 days to mean 6 "stages"
3 There will be a possibility of relegating the importance of Jesus to the background- Evolution says that there was never any perfect Adam who sinned. So,remission of sin will not be necessary.
4 The theory of evolution does not solve most human problems.

There may be more. Guys please stop taking things personal. Let's learn

Not all Christians hold that interpetation to make the earth 6,000 years old. So, it is not rational to begin to broadly generalize things in that manner. Ignorance is not bliss, especially where some people trail off in arguments by jingoism like in your case.
If ignorance is not bliss then why would any rational person accept two contradicting genealogies of the same Jesus and smilingly stake his life for it huh

If ignorance is not bliss then why would any rational person blow himself up to go and claim 72 virgins in paradise when the person that gave him the bomb he use is still here on earth and doesn't seem to be in a hurry to go claim his own 72 virgins. huh

Jingoism? NOT near it pally.

Can't you guys understand that the colonial masters who handed you the myths/half-truths/fantasies in your holy books have moved on.

Those myths/half-truths/fantasies were probably written to address the needs of people who lived donkey centuries ago and can not help us now(we are in the 21st century in case you have forgotten).

How can you still be imagining that the earth is just about 6,000 years old?
How can you imagine that the contradicting genealogies of Jesus in Matthew and Luke are both correct.

Really, you don't need more than your common fukcing sense to see the main plans behind it. But I can't blame anybody who is too enslaved by religion. Ignorance is good sometimes.
EducationRe: Presidency To Probe Mass Failure In SSCE, NECO Exams by VALIDATOR: 12:40pm On Nov 03, 2009
Witi:
The Presidency has ordered an investigation into the mass failure of students in this year’s School Certificate Examinations.

Some school heads may be punished to avert a re-occurrence of the "woeful" performance, it was gathered yesterday.

Most secondary school leavers failed the May-June examinations conducted by the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC), the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

Of the candidates who sat for this year’s May/June Senior Secondary Examinations, 84% failed.

According to WAEC, only 356, 981 or 25.99 per cent of the 1,373,009 candidates (755,955 males and 617,054 females) got five credit passes and above in English, Mathematics and at least three other subjects.

Of those who passed, 116,729 are Science-oriented; 33,024 in Social Science class, and 100,632 in the Arts.

Of the 1,200,765 candidates who registered for the NECO examinations, only 126,500 or 10.7% secured five credits, including English and Mathematics.

Also, 289,966 candidates or 24.5% came out with five credits without English and Mathematics.

The Presidency, shocked by the dismal performance, ordered a probe.

A source said: "The first family is a family of teachers. President Umaru Yar’Adua is uncomfortable with the results and he has asked the Ministers of Education to investigate the poor performance.

"I think the Minister of State for Education, Hajiya Aishat Dukku, is coordinating the investigation into the mass failure. Dukku has been in the education sector for more than two decades.

"I cannot tell you members of the panel but it is made up of the representatives of the examinations bodies and other stakeholders. The panel has been meeting, evaluating data and factors in the last few weeks. The assignment is being treated with urgency.

"The essence of the probe is to identify what went wrong and how to rectify the problems. The government believes that we cannot continue like this.

"After the results have been known, the President will rub minds with state governors on the recommendations and the way forward."

Hajiya Dukku confirmed the investigation.

She said: "We have called all the examinations bodies; we have sat down; we have set up a committee to look into the poor performance in Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examinations in WAEC, NECO and NABTEB.

"And we have just concluded the investigation and the report is right here on my table. But we have not reviewed the findings of the committee. We have not studied it.

"We have, however, said that whoever is responsible for this mass failure, whether it is the head of department, a teacher or a chief executive will face the law because the government cannot be spending huge amount of money on our schools and yet the outcome is nothing.

"We believe strongly that there must be value for our investment in education; there must be value for money.

"If we are to be among the world’s largest economies by the year 2020, education should be the driving force. The drivers cannot be those that are performing poorly in their examinations. The drivers cannot be half-baked; they have to be well-equipped and it is only through education that they can be. So, we are ready to face this failure squarely and find solutions to the causes."

How come the the percentage of 5 credit pass (including english and mathematics) are so far apart for WAEC and NECO? Are those two exams not suppose to be testing the same knowledge and awarding equivalent certificates huh
The mere fact that WAEC 25.99% has while NECO has 10.7% shows that even the institutions that are suppose to measure knowledge are dysfunctional and very unreliable.

The education system is bad but how bad?We can't determine because WAEC and NECO have figures that are too far apart.

Would you appreciate a masquerade entering your bus and insisting on steps you must take to be saved?

In my opinion, all these preachers that put churches and hold noisy night vigils in residential areas should be apprehended and punished.
As for me, i still keep a baseball bat near my bed. There's a guy that comes every couple of months to preach the Gospel at 2 am with a megaphone in residential areas on a work day. The last time he did it on wednesday night and i was useless at work the next day. Both I and my gateman have drawn up plans to severel beat the fellow next time he tries this again!
