Diasporan: Jail Inmate Allegedly Got FOUR Guards Pregnant
Federal authorities have indicted multiple corrections officers and gang members at the Baltimore City Detention Center, alleging that the Black Guerilla Family gang had control of the facility. "This is my jail," suspected gang leader Tavon "Bulldog" White said on an intercepted phone call. "I'm dead serious... I make every final call in this jail... and nothing go past me, everything come to me."
Many details have started to emerge about White's reign over the jail, fellow inmates and (disturbingly) the guards. According to reports, White was sexually involved with a number of Baltimore's guards, but that's not all, four were allegedly pregnant by him, and two had his name tattooed on their bodies.
A cabal of corrupt corrections officers and members of the Black Guerrilla Family gang enjoyed nearly free rein inside the Baltimore City Detention Center, federal authorities allege, smuggling drugs and cellphones into the jail and having sexual relationships that left four guards pregnant. An indictment unsealed Tuesday names 25 people — including 13 women working as corrections officers — who face racketeering and drug charges. Twenty of the accused also face money-laundering charges. It alleges that Tavon White, an inmate known as "Bulldog," took control of the prison gang soon after his arrival in 2009 on an attempted-murder charge.
White appeared in Baltimore City Circuit Court Wednesday on that charge, hustled into a court room under heavy guard by state and federal officers. His case was postponed until this summer. Creston P. Smith, White's attorney in the state case, said he knew nothing about the federal allegations. But in the documents unsealed Tuesday, White is accused of building a network of corruption inside of the jail that both enabled a smuggling operation and allowed White to manage gang activity on the city streets.
Nairalanders what do you think about this?

kofsy: I was at my aunt's place yesterday and she told me her marriage is crumbling... She has been married for 12yrs and the marriage is blessed with three kids(2boys and a girl). Herself and her husband are having some issues as regards who should be his next of kin and who shouldn't. Before they got married, her husband had been using his immediate younger brother as his next of kin. Now that he's married, my aunt expects that to change. She said her husband ought to have changed his next of kin to their first born who is a boy and 10yrs of age. Since I'm not experienced in such, I didn't know what to say or who's side to take. Please married folks, why do you think the husband is insisting on using his younger brother as his next of kin? Do you think he has an hidden agenda? Or is he scared about the paternity of their son? My aunt is feeling insecure and they fight over it everyday. Probably he doesn't want to use his underaged son as a next of kin yet, because he is underaged and not up to the age of maturity, according to us humans. Using the brother as a next of kin now is not bad, but he should put certain clauses in his will that makes his first born inherit whats rightfully his when he comes of age. Else!... |

Those young boys and girls understood that talk is indeed cheap, that was why they ACTED and placed a satellite adorned with our national colors in the orbit. Unfortunately, your kind of mindset has so polluted this country that the young people find government to blame for their generational failures, be it failure at the olympics to research to science and technology.
Today, the government is doing a lot of work in incubating the right kind of knowledge. From the very many available FG sponsored scholarship for our 1st class products to the ones being done by State government, and most recently by Ondo State government. Probably, you and I did not make a 1st class and even when we did, we chose the oil majors, but some that really decided to ACT have been on government payroll for the past years, studying in the best schools in the world and preparing for the launch of the dream the President is sharing. Those guys have got no time for NL and Facebook and you can't find them here to share their idea but we know that they are there doing their things and sustaining our satellites and nuclear reactors.
Now, why not relax and see what they make out of the situation, since you are and are not even qualified or unwilling to chose further rigors of research and class room work to the posh and lovely life that Shell and Chevron brings. You know what, they are the heroes, WE are the cowards!!! They ACTED on a dream, YOU suppressed the dream and even poison it. Whats wrong with this one? nep2ra: FG Declines Lagos’ Request For Power Distribution Companies
Gboyega Akinsanmi
Lagos State Government has disclosed that the federal government has declined its offer to acquire power distribution companies namely Eko and Ikeja Power Distribution Companies situated in the state.
The state government also rejected the plans of the federal government to sell the National Theatre without offering it the right of first refusal in line with the extant legal provision. The state government noted that if the federal government decides to sell the edifice, it would challenge the action in court.
The state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeola Ipaye, expressed the state’s disproval of the federal government’s decision on the power stations in an exclusive chat with THISDAY.
On the power distribution stations, the attorney-general explained that the state government had expressed interest out of anxiety and concern “to solve what we think was an eminently solvable problem.”
He added that lack of electricity “damages the Lagos economy more than any other state in Nigeria. However, we were not allowed to do so. Private companies were preferred. We are doing what we can by way of isolated power plants.”
Fielding questions on the planned sale of National Theatre, Ipaye said that the state government “is really not sure of the intentions of the federal government in this regard. However, we reiterate our readiness to take over, refurbish and use these heritage assets for their intended purposes.”
The attorney-general added that that the state government eminently “deserves of this opportunity. In a very real sense, we do have a stake in these monuments, having hosted the federal government as capital territory for so long and created the enabling environment for their establishment.”
“Apart from their being on Lagos soil, these monuments are an intimate part of the Lagos history and social scene. If anyone can be trusted to value and treasure them, it is the Lagos State Government.”
But he added that the state government “will no doubt consider the legal option if we are denied right of first refusal again. We feel very strongly about these monuments - for all the good reasons. In the meantime, we are focused on persuasion, hoping that the federal government will appreciate the obvious merit of our position.”
The comissioner clarified public debate that the proposal to extend tenure of the elected officials of the 57 local councils in the state had generated, noting that the proposal became necessary in order to put an end to public consternation and complaint over poor records of governance at the grassroots.
He explained that the elected official at the grassroots “spend the first year settling down, appreciating the demands of the office and generally orientating themselves. Let us assume that by the second year they have a fair grip and increasing efficiency, this is virtually lost by the third year.
“With elections approaching, they are heavily distracted. A lot of people have canvassed the harminisation of terms of office across the board, i.e., federal, state and local governments, so that we do not have what appears to be an unending political or electioneering season. In this light, we believe that the proposed amendment will make governments more efficient at the local level.
"If the amendment worthy of passage finally sails through as proposed, he said the serving political office holders at the local government level “will be at par with their colleagues at the state and federal levels.”
He stated that the councils’ elected officials would get a four-year term which, he said, was renewable once provided they “are reelected. After two terms, they will not be able to contest for the same position again.”
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Power (PTFP), Beks Dagogo-Jack, has attributed the reasons why the federal government has failed to so far to reach an agreement with members of the unions in the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to selfishness.
Speaking Tuesday at the signing ceremony of the various transaction documents in the ongoing power sector reform exercise and privatisation of successor companies, Dagogo-Jack said government’s prolonged negotiations with PHCN labour unions as regards payment of severance benefits to the workers were not unconnected with influence from people who have over time benefited from the lack of reforms in the sector.
He told journalists at the side-lines of the ceremony which was conducted by President Goodluck Jonathan alongside Vice-President Namadi Sambo at the State House that the alleged interests have got potentials to upstage negotiations in the settlement process.
“First and foremost, the labour settlement process is captured in an understanding and in that there are core elements, whatever is not represented in that understanding and brought out today is a renegotiation and you don’t renegotiate in a signed contract; I don’t think it will survive in the public arena and not to talk about the law courts because there are so many adjudication points that could be kicked in if any party to a contract discovers a renegotiation.”

nep2ra: Okupe: APC Will Crumble And Disappear By 2014
Says power supply will stabilise by 2014
Our Correspondents The Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, Tuesday described the merger of opposition political parties on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a weak association that would crumble and disappear by 2014, a year to the general election.
Okupe, who paid a courtesy visit to THISDAY corporate office in Apapa, Lagos, dismissed the view that the merger would rout the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the next election, noting that the forces behind the merger are not serious-minded people capable of causing a major upset in national politics.
While hinging his prediction on the projection that the president's joker, which is stable electricity, would have been attained by 2014, Okupe noted that if stable power which is critical to the opposition would be punctured and rendered ineffective.
“Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Maj-Gen. Mohammadu Buhari are not serious-minded people; they are going round like people dancing in a market place. I expect that when you post an aggregate of people of that calibre, who want to run government, by now they must have a policy statement on power, agriculture and employment and not just talking about PDP leaving.
"Is it by mouth that they will run the nation? These are not serious-minded people. Can someone get your vote by using word of mouth that PDP should leave without a policy? “Tinubu has ridden roughshod over the South-west. But Nigeria is bigger than that. This is their first time out in national politics; alright, and let me give you some bad news: the relevance that ACN has in Nigerian politics is that they are a Yoruba party. That is what makes them relevant in politics and by dropping that toga, the party is dead.
"They have just formed an abyss; a formless abyss that the Yoruba cannot key-into. The Yoruba have always been members of a regional organisation – Action Group (AG) , Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), etc. And in any case, what are the electoral credentials of ACN? How many states have they won that they are boasting?
“They won Lagos; they won Oyo and they are boasting. The others, they got through the courts, and the masquerade is now out. In terms of electoral victory, these people have nothing to show.
"We gave them Ogun State. It was a donation! Out of six states that they have, they got three through judicial judgments. They have not really tested their electoral prowess and they now want to jump to the national platform.
“This is a party that is consistently unable to produce a presidential candidate from within its rank and file, consistently. And even this forthcoming 2015 election, they are planning to recruit Tambuwal; they never have people in their party that can run for the presidency.
“What kind of political party is that and you are taking them seriously. It is a politically defective and weak organisation, and by coming to the national stage, the wind is going to blow them open. If they don’t crumble and disappear by 2014, don’t call me Okupe,” he said.
The presidential spokesman, who dissected the power reform programme, explained that the problem with the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPPs) was the amount of money that was designated for the investment, adding that the money was not the type entrepreneurs in the country could aggregate.
“But when Jonathan came, five major problems bedevilled the power sector. One, there was low generation capacity. Two, was that the NIPPs, which required so much money, were abandoned. Three, even if they were working, they were located in places that were impossible for gas availability. Four, there was very poor transmission capacity and five, the indecisiveness involved in the privatisation exercise.
“In two years, Jonathan’s administration has solved four out of the five problems facing the power sector. Yes, we are not there yet but I can tell you the truth, because it will be difficult for ordinary people to know what is going on.
"The truth of the matter is that four of the challenges have been taken care of. The NIPPs – all of them are about 95 per cent complete and there is enough monitoring to ensure that this is done,” he said.
He pointed out the outstanding challenge was transmission capacity which is currently being addressed by the federal government. Okupe, who also sought partnership with the media, admitted that the Jonathan administration needed help to survive.
“That is the truth. I am not hiding it. There is no government that has been more assaulted in this country. I have come to see if we can build a platform to help the country and this government.
"I am not saying that you should compromise your positions; I am just saying that you should give us the chance to clarify anything that you need to clarify. “One of the reasons I am making this move is also to be able to go back to my principal and say these are the commitments that I have made and if we are going to succeed in this thing, I have to be allowed to fulfil these commitments,” he explained.

phoneport: Only Six Civilians Were Killed In Baga”, Nigerian Military Says
The Joint Task Force, JTF, in Borno has claimed that only six civilians were killed over the weekend during a gun battle it had with insurgents in Baga community of Borno State.
The JTF said residents’ claims that 185 people were killed during the attack were false. The Commander of the Task Force, Brigadier General Austin Edokpaye, said in a three- paragraph statement he sent to journalists in Maiduguri, that Baga residents lied when they told the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, that over 2000 houses were burnt down after the attack. He insisted that only some few 30 thatch houses got burnt. Mr. Edokpaye said his troops killed 30 Boko Haram gunmen, while five (5) others were arrested.
He said a soldier died and five others sustained injuries. He said “contrary to media speculation that hundreds of houses were burnt, instead, it was the explosion from Boko Haram Terrorists’ Rocket Propelled Grenade Bombs, Anti Aircraft Guns and sophisticated IED materials that triggered fire to about 30 thatch houses in the predominantly fishing community.” He said a cache of arms, including three Rocket Propelled Grenade Launchers; two Rocket Propelled Grenades Bombs; four AK 47 Rifles; 435 assorted ammunitions; seven quantities of IED material; and three land cruiser vehicles.
Mr. Edokpaye’s statement not only contradicts that by the residents of Baga, the Red Cross and the Borno State Government, it also contradicts that by military authorities in Abuja. While residents of the town aid they buried 185 corpses, members of the community after the clash, the Red Cross later said the victims increased to 187. The Borno State Government on Tuesday said ‘over 100 people’ were killed but said it could not ascertain the actual figure until its investigations are completed.
On Monday evening, the Defence Headquarters in Abuja declined to comment on the civilian casualty. The spokesperson for the Headquarters, Brigadier General Chris Kolade, however, said 25 Boko Haram suspects were killed in clash contrary to Mr. Edokpaye’s claim of 30.
