Thanks Boss Iyiman for this thread. I want to ask about the academic BSN program. Which school will you recommend. I'm considering choosing between University of Texas, Arlington and Grand Canyon University for my BSN. How good are these two schools and which other school will you recommend. I'm awaiting i140 approval. Thank you sir
I am also awaiting i140 approval. Please share your timeline if you dont mind.

IYIMAN:
If you come to the states, you'll go through orientation lasting between 6-12 weeks, working with a preceptor, so no problem.
Yes I know about WGU and you can finish your BSN in 4 months if you are dedicated. It is a professional degree, well recognised. But if you're more interested in becoming a DNP.. You have to think of an academic Bsn program.
I spoke with a DNP program director at Binghamton university New York and the lady said they recognize WGU and a Cgpa was just a little portion of the admission process. I know lots of programs accepts WGU grads but I was concerned about their "street cred".
Their tuition is the most affordable I have seen. Obtaining by BSN for less than 4k would be nice. So I could have sufficient money for the MSN or DNP or whatever I choose to do.

Can a pregnant theatre nurse get employed in UK after she has passed her ietls and CBT exams?
Points to consider may be that you may not qualify for full benefits during your maternity leave. Also it depends on how pregnant you are and your personal determination. I have seen someone sit for nclex when her baby was barely 2wks old and she passed at 76 questions (her story inspired me a lot when I was in my nclex bubble).
So all am saying in summary is that there would be challenges but nothing is impossible.

Please house, how much is cbt in Nigeria, and where can One register (centres in lagos, Abeokuta , or ibadan)

Thank you
It is roughly 50k naira...depending on conversion rate for the day. Log into your Pearson vue account and you would e able to view the centers close to your location..
All registerations are done online. There are a bunch of centers in Lagos and Ibadan but none in Abeokuta. Those in Abeokuta are directed to pick a center in Lagos.

Please house if I am evaluating my transcript, do I still need to evaluate my nursing certificate? Or transcript covers everything.
During evaluation, your school sends transcript as an official copy and you send your certificate to the evaluating body respectively.

My problem with ICES is that you have to pay 200 dollar for each document unlike iqas where u pay 200 dollar for all documents you want evaluated or am I missing out on something. please someone should help clarify. Thank you
ICES takes forever to release an assessment. I would strongly advice against that. Plus like you stated, it is more expensive if you have more than 1 degree.

thanks so much, just RN
Just Rn wouldnt get you sufficient points to get an ITA for Express entry. Please assess your CRS score and make sure you are above 445. Refer to the Express entry thread for canadian immigration advice.

This thread is for licensure as an RN not Express entry.

Everytime a in a hospital in Canada I keep imagining how my ist day back to Nursing in the States would be. I am a little anxious though but I all I pray for is a good and understanding preceptor. wheww....

@Iyiman ......I look forward to the day I go to work as a self sufficient UsRN grin. Also do you have any info on Western Governors university RN to BSN program?. I want to know if a competence based program commands equal respect in the clinical setting.

Also for those already practicing in the States, is there any Nigerian Nurse habit we would need to unlearn?

please if applying for express entry and using iqas for ECA , do I really need to evaluate waec or just go with my highest qualification. Does it matter if waec isn't evaluated because iqas actually evaluates highest qualification unlike WES. Will this affect my CRS?
Go with your highest degree if it is N MSC. Iqas doesn't require you to do your waec. If you have RN and RM then evaluate both degrees.

What are your qualifications?

Hello my people, congratulation to me. Just returned from Manila Philippine, and guess what? I passed Nclex. Thanks to UWORLD Questions Banks 2019. I have managed to save the questions. Email me to get it in your inbox dovelson2 at gmail dot com
Congratulations kiss kiss kiss

Thank you for your kind heart in wanting to share uworld with others.
But i would also want to state that apart from copy rights laws that prohibits you from sharing uworld in this manner, it isnt as beneficial when you use uworld in this format.
1......you cant track your progress (and knowing your percentile helps to relieve your anxiety a whole lot).
2.....it would make the process feel like you are reading yet another text book and not actually attempting questions.

I know we all want to save cost but I personally feel like uworld is one of the best prep tool out there and using it in this manner minimizes your outcome drastically.

Congrats once again my esteemed professional colleague and more strength to those preparing. It would all end in praise for us all.

I'm so grateful for this thread, it was long overdue but before I say anything if you are not abroad yet and want to know how you can immigrate as a nurse then follow the link above to the other thread where you can be guided in this process.
With that being said, I will go ahead and share my little experience in diaspora.
As some of you may already know I was on route to USA through the cgfns process but had to stop halfway due to situations beyond my control. During my time off I decided to look into the UK which turned out to be a good idea because few months after I started the process I landed here. I highly recommend this route if you are tired of waiting in Nigeria, you can go to the uk and work while you pursue your American, Canadian or Australian dream. The last time I checked there is a big difference between 10 pounds and 10 naira.

1. I had no issues with immigration, Nursing is on the shortage occupation list so it was easy. my visa was granted within 15 working days without having a visa interview. my employer paid for my visa and flights.

2. I landed in Manchester UK in April and what hit me first was not the fancy airport or buildings, nah it was the cold. My teeth were clattering and I was trying so hard not to appear shaky. it was supposed to be spring but it didnt feel like spring to me though. The cold was real but what was more real was the wind. Everyone kept saying I'm lucky i arrived this period because it was warm and I was like well maybe its warm to you but definitely not to me.

3,4. Working here is different from how we do it back home in Nigeria, we have to explain everything to the patient and get consent before carrying out any procedure. Handwashing nkor? I now carry hand lotion in my pocket because of it, another culture shock is addressing my boss with his or her name. No more sir or ma, they dont even like it when you say mr or mrs in front of their name, secondly I only noticed this when I got here, Nigerians say the word sorry a lot even when it's not necessary and up till today I'm still guilty of this. When someone gets hurt the first thing that comes out of my mouth is sorry and he/she will be like oh it's not your fault grin grin thirdly, there is no doctor yelling at you here because that is verbal abuse, everyone does what they are expected to do and not pass their job to someone else. Lastly, you are accountable for all your decisions and actions.

5. Work, make money, further education, travel etc

6. To all Aspiring Nurses, make hay while the sun shines, NMC uk has made the process of immigrating to uk easier and faster, do not waste your opportunities, stop wishing and start acting on those dreams. There is no better time to start this process than now.
Ps. I'm still going to pursue my usa registration but until that time comes, let me jejely enjoy my pounds.
More stories and pictures coming soon.

IYIMAN:
Nice reading from my pal, Barbiee, who did the needful at the right time to save time. I am happy to finally move over to the States, all thanks to God.

1. Immediately the requirements were met it took just 6 months to get to consular interview stage which looked like a formality because USCIS has approved the visa petition by my employer and every legally required documents have been fulfilled.

2. I landed in the US with same experience as shared by barbie, temperature was sub-zero. Picked up by my employer straight to a restaurant, then to the hotel. Then another life started.

3&4. A lot of differences in practice but the same principle. Nurses in the U.S. do a lot more than basically Nursing a patient. The 3 categories of Nurses with varying roles, but the RN to which Nigeria Nurses automatically belong leads the team. Nurses in America are critical decision makers in patient care. I was surprised to have to be the one writing consult to specialists that should see my patients after admission. To have to put in several treatment orders and sign off for the MD. For the MD to listen and go with your line of reasoning/decision in patients care. Everyone here works as a team and there's no superiority/inferiority issues.

5. Work for your money and enjoy yourself. Study further and become an authority in your special area. There are over 100 types of Nursing speciality in the US to choose from. They almost have a Traffic Nurse .

6. All Aspiring Nurses, make hay while the sun shines, the U.S. is in serious need of you. The process remains the same for now. Do not procrastinate, stop wishing and start acting on those dreams. There is no better time to start this process than now.
The U.S remains one of the main destinations. Many in other western countries are still finding their ways here.
Shalom.
It's so nice we finally have this thread at least it would help us to cope with the anxiety of practicing abroad.
My question is was the 6mth from after i140 approval?

Pls, which country is easier to process, migrate to and work in as a nurse between UK and Canada? How long will it take to process both?
Easiest is uk and it would take less than 6mths if you pass all exams at ist attempt and NMCN behave themselves.

Canada would take you about 6mths to 8mth to migrate (through Express entry IF ONLY YOU MEET THE REQUIREMENTS). Then practicing as a nurse would take you from as little as 1yr to as much as 4yrs depends on your case.

Good morning Sis,I want to start my credentials verification and I intend to use iqas but I don't know how to go about it,pls is there anyway you can assist with information that would help me be fast with the process?
I saw how you have been able to assist others with relevant information that is why I decided to seek your advise
Log into iqas website and register.
Then print out the neccessary forms fill it and DHL them back to IQAS. IQAS has a checklist and information on how to go about the process on their website. Please look it up and aquint yourself with the process.

Canada.

In immigration matters, I find that people often have a lot of misconceptions that they pass around. That's why we must learn to do our personal research and thanks to uncle google, that work has been made incredibly easy.

Thanks for this. I actually requested for NHS jobs but they seem not to have that available now. So do u think i should try another recruitment agency?
Ask them for more information like;
1....how long is the term you are spending at the nursing home.
2....can you switch to NHS in the even that it becomes available during your time in the nursing home?
3....what's the pay like for both places?
Again all these doesnt stop you from reaching out to other agencies or applying to hospitals directly.

Hello house, I used my neco result to gain admission in a university in Nigeria. But I want to travel outside to work as a nurse.

Is the neco result going to be a problem for me?

If yes, is there anyway I can work it out?
NECO is as accepted as WEAC and GCE. So you have no problem whatsoever.

Oh great. Within 6 months sounds good really. Thanks for the information. After passing the cbt, how do I get an employer? Sorry for too many questions!
Send me a pm for the materials. I would send it to you.

After passing both CBT and ielts you can then contact prospective employers directly or through agents. There are some good options shared on this thread. Interview is sometimes done through Skype.

Thanks for your prompt response! BTW what's DL? How long can one work as a pre-registered nurse? The osce can be taken anytime? No time frame? It's kinda expensive
The cost of OSCE is mostly covered by your employer. Most employers would want you to sit for the OSCE ASAP sometimes within 6mths of arrival.

My advice is for you to concentrate on passing your OSCE and not get carried away by the pre registeration position you occupy.
Always remember you arent a UK RN till you paddle your OSCE.

Am so happy this thread is still very much alive. Please I need your candid advice(s). Which route is the easiest for registering as a nurse and migrating, the UK or the US. Based on your experiences, how long does the process take or likely to take for either country? Tx
UK is easiest with a timeline of 6mths or less to 1yr. Depending on how quick you write your CBt and pass ielts.

USa would take you at least 18mths to 2yrs or more to complete the entire process from assessment to visa.

My advise is always go to the uk ist then complete your usa process from there.

Meet a lawyer and have your WAEC cert or Print-out notarize and then buy the WAEC e-pin . Convert the CGFNS supplementary form, notarized WAEC and E-Pin into one pdf file and upload through the contact us page.
No need to waste money notarizing the documents. Just your waec cert would suffice as someone rightly pointed out.

Hi, everyone.
Please for those who have done Visascreen through CGFNS, concerning the first requirement, proof of passing scores for NCLEX/ CP. How did you go about it. Thanks.
When the BON sends them a verification of your license, you would have met that requirement.
So reach out to your BON in USA to send CGFNS verification of license. It was done free for texas BON.
