kalokalo:made for life? are you kidding? the dude is made for next life if any! |
reindeer:I don't understand what your point is, are you saying Banks in the UK should stop accepting deposits or investments from people they "perceive" as corrupt? That's totally impractical, and i'd suspect you are being irrational and unnecessarily emotional. The world is a global community and the banks are there to connect those in need of funds with those that have it in surplus. Until the recent uproar, Ghadaffi was a leader of a very stable government, if the UK or the EU decides to freeze his assets just for nothing's sake, then they'd be treading on a very dangerous diplomatic lines. If you want sincerity, you should seek to establish it first within your own home. |
@Topic Depends on the occasion. If we are talking about some serious no strings attached coitus interruptus erotics, then A will be the way to go. If I am looking at a more stable relationship, B is just appropriate for me. I'd take the classic figure over the slutty one any day any time. @Sagamite Quite amazing what you ve been studying these days, i would assume this has no bearing whatsoever on strategic consulting, or does it? |
This Bashorun Randle must have an exaggerated opinion of himself! |

Pukkah:I quite agree with you on the link between unemployment and crime rate. However, the unemployment situation is a problem that is largely due to irresponsibility of the federal government, and many other state governors who lack the basic clue on how to provide an enabling environment for their state citizens. The unemployment situation in Lagos is mostly attributable to mass migration from neighboring states, and according to the laws of elastic limits, an object can only be stretched to a certain point before it approaches it's breaking limit. |
obowunmi:Is that meant to be a plausible excuse for armed robbery? |
Judge Christopher Hardy sitting at a packed Southwark Crown Court today told Bhadresh Gohil a partner at Arlington Sharma Solicitors and James Ibori’s lawyer; “you have brought shame on your family, your profession and your country” as he handed down a sentence of over 7 years to him. (Sentence Count 1; Conspiracy to defraud -7 yrs , Count 2: Conspiracy to make false instruments - 3 ; 5 years and count 4-8 involving Money laundering and Proceeds of Crime-
3 years) Gohil who was already in custody at Wandsworth Prison following the conclusion of another trial involving Ibori’s wife, sister and mistress was told by the judge, “ You were a solicitor of the supreme Court and holding out as a man of integrity”. Adding “It’s said the real villains are in Nigeria, but this fraud required special expertise and you lent yourself to it”. Gohil was described by the judge as the “architect” and the predicate offender in a thoroughly dishonest scheme which had been devised simply to divert resources of Nigerian state funds into the pockets of others from the sale of ‘V Mobile’ shares, the third largest wireless network in operation in the whole of the African continent now known as “Airtel.” Gohil went to extra ordinary lengths to carry out the fraud with no regard for his professional duties. In fact the police found evidence implicating him in fraud in another case already heard concerning Mr. Faustin Kabwe of Zambia who is already serving a sentence. Sasha Wass QC for Prosecution told the judge that are two elements to this crime; “the Fraud and the Money laundering”. In 2005 whilst James Ibori was the Governor, the Delta State owned 18% of the shares in V Mobile and The Akwa Ibom state owned 10% with Obong Victor Attah in power. Both were on the board of V Mobile and privy to all the dealings. So in June 2005, when a sale of the company was considered there were already offers on the table from major international operators such as Vodaphone, Virgin, Celtel and Econet amongst others. By late 2005 the market had been fully tested and although there was no requirement for any additional advice and due to the greed of our leaders, both James Ibori and Victor Attah together decided to plunder the asset and divert funds to their own coffers. Other Nigerian officials accused in the scam are currently at large. They include Mr. Ibori, former Governor Victor Obong Attah of Akwa Ibom, David Edevbie, a former Principal Secretary to Umaru Yar'Adua, Love Ojakovo, a former commissioner of finance to Ibori and Henry Imashekka, a business associate of Ibori. Gohil was recruited and it was he who masterminded a simple scheme and set up a fake company as a consultancy called ADF (Africa Development Finance) which would charge exorbitant fees ( five to six times of that charged by top UK solicitors, for their alleged service and to arrange the sale. Gohil created a pretence that it was necessary for the Delta State and Akwa Ibom state to consult another company-ADF and charged $19 million and $18m respectively and sent to Access bank in Nigeria. The basis of the fee would be a 5% flat commission and 25% -30% success fee for any price achieved over $6.5 per share. This even though the market was already established at between $6.45-$8.05 per share. The prosecutor Sasha Wass said “it is like betting after a race is concluded”. The fees were not legitimate or necessary but merely a mechanism to divert money to James Ibori and Victor Attah. It was always intended that no work would be undertaken but money diverted. Mr. Gohil from his luxury offices in St James in London, created a false paper trail by his own efforts and by instructing his junior trainees. A false agreement was typed up and Gohil forged the necessary signatures. Once funds were received at the Access bank in Nigeria various company vehicles were used to launder the cash including Brookes Aviation, E F Samuels, Ascot Offshore Nigeria Ltd, Esconet and Cran Brasil Nominees Ltd. Both De Boer and McCann were FSA approved and were recruited by Gohil to play a part The Judge also told the co defendants ; Lambertus De Boer aged 65 and Danial MCann aged 68 that, “I am satisfied that you were both drawn in innocently in Mr Gohil’s schemes and if you had not been then it would have been very serious for you”. Although both co-defendants’ lawyers made a case for suspended sentences, the Judge said that “Court of Appeal says that white collar crime is still a crime” and handed each a 30 months custodial sentence. Mr. Gohil faces further sentencing regarding an earlier trial known as “Ibori Trial 2” which concerns the trial of Ibori associates already sentenced to five-year jail terms , that sentencing is adjourned till April 8 2011. http://www.saharareporters.com/news-page/v-mobile-37million-shares-fraud-bhadresh-gohil-ibori%E2%80%99s-uk-lawyer-sentenced-7-years-prison |
Pro GEJSorry maam, I am no Pro GEJ, in actual fact, I am on the leading front of a campaign against the current government and at the moment, planning a massive twitter war against PDP shenanigans! That said, i would however, not think with my árse hole and stoop so low to blame personal misfortunes on the government, it's an irresponsible thing to do. The facts are there, plane took off from point A, developed faults mid air and crashlanded at point B, but due to the fact that opposition leaders are on board, we just had to blame the rival party for their woes? Common! how low can anyone get? |
seanet02:funny how you are desperate to prove a point, and the more you try, the sillier it comes across. Who do you suppose we could blame on the near death crash that OGD and Demeji Bankole experienced a few weeks back? I am no supporter of PDP but, common people, let's let common sense prevail here, GEJ is not a pilot, neither is he part of the cabin crew, we should really stop looking for answers where there is none!
Tinubu, Ribadu and Adeola should travel in separate planes if possible, imo. Mysterious "accidents" seem to frequently occur when dealing with the PDP
They trio were not dealing with PDP in this case, they were on their way to their own Presidential rally, i don't see how PDP is remotely involved or how the accident seem to have anything to do with Politics to even begin with. Travelling in separate plans is less indicative of anything, accidents happen everywhere, and i wouldn't think that's the first time the trio were travelling together |
debosky:na real war o my brother! There's a cloud of sadness built up in quite a many folks minds these days, you'd be amazed the sorts of things that could get em upset in a heartbeat! |
seanet02:Yeah i agree with you, GEJ is also responsible for every diarrhea and chest pain suffered by opposition leaders. The way some Nairalanders think is incredible! |
Is there a documented right somewhere that makes Nigeria the giant of Africa? People should really get a life, try something else like weave a basket or go tap some wine, it's useless whining over issues that makes absolutely no sense. It's my opinion that Zimbabwe is the giant of Africa, you don't like it? choke yourself! |
World organizations, government and private sectors have being trying to fight poverty for so many years, up till now nothing has been done to put an end to it.You can't solve a problem that has taken hundreds of years to build in just a single night, it takes a process and saying nothing has been done is an absolute lie. To start with, there ought to be some sort of re orientation of the African mentality that the more children you have, the more influential you are. It beggars belief to think in many cases, folks who could barely feed have the most populous households, something is definitely wrong fundamentally. Additionally, to effectively fight poverty, there has to be an enabling environment. When you live in a country where your government wouldn't mind buying even toothpicks from abroad, then there is a BIG problem, we are in deep shyt! To further foster an enabling environment, the government ought to consider enforcing minimum wage laws across both private and public sectors to stop people from being exploited. I am also of the opinion that certain markets such as housing markets should be regulated, the government might consider putting a cap on the maximum an individual could pay for rentals in a given month. Ordinarily, the housing market ought to be self regulated by several other market factors, but hey, we are talking about a system where nothing works, and that itself is the father of all poverty causes. |
I am surprised that Nairalanders are surprised at events such as this. It's not as though we ever had it any better, so why the We all know that the Judiciary has long been heavily compromised by PDP thugs, there's no point dropping jaws over this. |
Nigeria's president, Goodluck Jonathan, has finally agreed to participate in a televised presidential debate to be hosted by Lagos -based NN24 cable station. Jonathan had initially refused to participate after the station turned down his request to have the debate questions sent to him in advance. The station had no option but to suspend the debate until today. A source at NN24 told SaharaReporters today that Mr. Jonathan has agreed to participate in the debate "unconditionally". The debate is now scheduled to take place on March 18, 2011. All the major presidential candidates had earlier agreed to participate without imposing conditions. The debate between the vice presidential candidates will take place on March 11, 2011. In the 1999 election between then Olusegun Obasanjo and Olu Falae, Mr. Obasanjo refused to debate Olu Falae, the opposition candidate, because he was viewed to be ahead in the polls. In 2003, the planned debate with Gen. Buhari did not take place due to poor planning. Last month, the sitting governor in Abia State, Gov. Chief Theodore Orji, stormed out of a planned debate with his opponents. His reason was that the debate organized by the Catholic Church had a hostile environment. Despite twelve straight years of democracy, Nigerian politicians have continued to show disdain for its basic tenets. Campaigns are devoid of issues and candidates show little interest in agenda-based campaign aimed at solving the numerous problems confronting Nigeria. http://www.saharareporters.com/news-page/finally-jonathan-agrees-television-debate |
could someone explain this? "At least, 3, 250 members of the Peoples Democratic Party" Does it mean 750 members? or 3,250 members? I suppose this is one of those cases where spaces in between commas make a lot of difference! |
birdman:This has got to be the most bizzare I have ever heard of all theories, to which i take strong exceptions. It's been three months, a sovereign nation is without a functional government, diplomacy, we are told, is continuing, it's already a lost cause! The window for diplomacy after 3 months, is gone in my opinion. What is left now is for Gbagbo to now entrench and forcefully legitimise his regime , expand and intensify the empty propaganda, step up the violence and killings and in due course, may gain the support of the masses and eventually the worst would be to share power. Sometimes justice, they say, delayed is denied. Several news outlets are now confirming the fears of the UN general secretary of the possibilities of a civil war , and our leaders are still 'talking' - no action yet after three months of disputes. Our African leaders have failed us again, that we really still can't figure out yet exactly what we want for our people and our land. The idea of who won the elections is absolutely not in doubt except by Gbagbo and his cohorts and we should not waste any time at all addressing who won the Ivorian elections. All the spins doubting Ouattara's win of the elections are nothing but baseless propaganda. ECOWAS took a solid decision to resort to the use of legitimate force to force Gbagbo out of power should diplomatic efforts to get him to cede power fail. Ghana was a signatory to this noble idea. Diplomacy is however said to work best when both sides are aware of the worst possible consequences should the talks fail. This idea has always served as a psychological buffer in driving various diplomatic talks to the usually desired results and in this case the intended military action appropriately served this purpose. To this end, any deliberate attempt to undermine the military option effectively undermines the efficacy of the diplomatic talks. Just as the talks were gathering momentum with Military officials strategising on the best way forward,, ENTERED PRESIDENT ATTA MILLS OF GHANA. |
KenGali:I am ready to bet my last penny that you wouldn't tolerate any of your kids speaking Engerissh in the place of English. If so, why not live by what you preach? |
African leaders are as clueless and dumb as dumb could be!. . It's obvious to even the blindest sight that diplomatic measures wouldn't resolve shytt in Ivory Coast, hundreds are dead already, probably a few more to die in the coming days, and yet, these Old good for nothing fóols keep holding stupíd meetings and what not! |
Sun of god: at the start, we saw peaceful protesters in the streets,. . . .then gun shots. . . .then bodies lying everywhere, how conclusive could it get? It's n amateur footage, you wouldn't actually expect someone to standby and film a direct shooting taking place, would you? |
ECOMONG is a good for nothing set up! One would actually think the body and it's leadership had real plans for anything serious! |
How did they arrive at 20 billion dollars when a meeting hasn't been held yet ![]() |
