When you have a kid and a wife at home, or an exciting future to look forward to, i doubt you'd want to be the camera man in the orange suit when the thugs come calling!----I wouldn't want to be one!

As long as people keep getting away with stealing ballot boxes, there's absolutely nothing you can do to mitigate against it!

I also deduced from your post that you assumed that the government will be interested in a free and fair election. . . if this was your assumption, then you are far from being ignorant!

Didn't the President promise state governors a second term ticket? you didn't actually assume he meant to buy those at an Argos store, did you?

Alternatively, if the camera appeared to be the only solution, organizations such as Save Nigeria Group could get their members at each polling booths to put on spy pens such the one in the picture below, however, i still fail to understand how this will STOP militants/thugs from carting away people's vote

if you were referring to my earlier post which has now been confined to the bins, i  later realized that seizing an individual's National passport, and demanding that he/she does things they wouldn't have done, could be argued as a case of arrest or intimidation as the case may be, hence the reason i withdrew my earlier argument!

Yes o, Nigeria is really the happiest place on earth. . even amidst clashes and bloodsheds, our president saw the need to declare Jumbo Bonuses--- who says we can't party with an extra kobo even if our farms are set ablaze and our streets littered with bombs ? ---hell, we can always blame that on Demons!

We don't need a save Nigeria group, as Nigerians, if we get pushed to the wall, we simply scream a little, and keep moving----another bomb goes off and we read the usual

You are right on the point you are making, what worries me however is the fact that we can't exactly call what we have a democratic system if the government has chosen to resort to using cheap blackmails and dirty politics to fight its own war of convenience.

It also becomes really dangerous to think that even the most corrupt ones are able to walk free as long as they are in the same party with the president. Silencing the voice of opposition will be the fastest train that will plunge Nigeria back into the deepest moments of dark!

The president must explain to all and sundry why the likes of IBB and OBJ are not being probed {even after the Haliburton document was released} and the likes of Tinubu are about to feel the sledgehammer of the law, just a few months to general election!

What is on the wall is no fair game, the handwritings are those of Mafia!. .

PoliticsFederal Govt Under Pressure To Arrest Tinubu by violent(op): 2:14am On Jan 08, 2011
For the second time in a month, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) yesterday accused the Federal Government of plotting to arrest and silence its national leader and former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Federal Government, the ACN alleged, plans to put Tinubu out of circulation to check his rising political profile and demobilise the ACN ahead of April’s general election.

The party had on December 5 last year alerted Nigerians to "the surreptitious and dangerous moves being made to silence Tinubu."

A few days later, the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) chair, Sam Saba, said the CCB would dust up against Tinubu, a case of keeping a foreign account while in office. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had earlier investigated the case without any evidence against the former governor.

Spokesman of the ACN, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, told reporters in Lagos yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan had finally succumbed to the "unceasing pressure by signing on to the evil plan."

Mohammed said: "Now, we have it on a good authority that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, (Mr. Mohammed Adoke), has been under tremendous pressure to look for any offence, no matter how flimsy, to get Tinubu arrested and prosecuted – just to put him away." He alleged that the President "may sign a warrant of Tinubu’s arrest anytime from now."

He warned: "We will not sit back and fold our arms while those who fought for the democracy we are enjoying today are demonised and decapitated. We reject the targeting of Tinubu, who they see as the architect of the change that is threatening the PDP.

"Nothing must happen to this icon of democracy and good governance, so as not to set in motion a chain of events the end of which no one can predict."

Mohammed said the ACN’s phenomenal leap is making the PDP envious, hence the focus on Tinubu who is seen as "the architect of PDP’s deconstruction, who has to be stopped at all costs."

Apart from winning back its mandate in Edo, Ekiti and Osun states in the South-West where its candidates are now occupying the government houses, the ACN has also been making an in-road into other parts of the country.

Mohammed said internal democracy in the ACN and its discipline have attracted into the party the likes of Senator John James Akpanodoedehe (Akwa Ibom); Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and ex-Governor Achike Udenwa (Imo State); Former Transport Minister Abiye Sekibo (Rivers State); Senator George Akume (Benue State), Senator Saminu Turaki (Jigawa State); Senator Joel Danlami (Taraba State); five members of the National Assembly in Anambra State and the entire Congress of Progressive Party (CPC) structure in Bauchi State.

"As our party’s fortune rises, the prospect of the ruling PDP becomes dimmer and dimmer by the day.

"As the general elections approach, it is becoming increasingly clear to the discerning that we are the toast of all Nigerians seeking better governance and the deepening of democracy".

During the week, former President Olusegun Obasanjo was believed to have visited the national secretariat of the PDP to press the leadership to "do something about the crises in the party in the South-West so as to check the ACN" or he would quit.

Mohammed said those behind the plot to arrest Tinubu, in one of their meetings, "said everything must be done to stop the putative alliance between our party and the CPC, which they see as capable of ending the years of misrule by the PDP."

He then raised some posers: "Why the arrest of Tinubu at the time of the registration of voters? Why when there is a merger talk between the ACN and the CPC? Why when people are leaving the PDP in droves?"

He said the PDP men pressuring the President to get Tinubu arrested "are firmly of the belief that his arrest will destabilise the ACN".

Mohammed said there is a growing desperation by the PDP, saying the sum of $1billion "was secretly and hurriedly shared out to states from the excess crude accounts, just to secure support for President Jonathan and give his backers the necessary war chest needed to fight ahead of the April election." The money, he alleged, was shared in foreign currency to the detriment of the naira.

"In recent times, bombs have been exploding across the country in an unprecedented degeneration of security in a country that is not at war. Hundreds have been killed or maimed. Do we know those behind it? Do we know their motives? Could it be part of the end game? We leave Nigerians to judge."

But Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation yesterday dismissed the allegations. The organisation also said it was not true that six Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors were made to donate N500 million each to the President's campaign.

The Director of Media and Publicity of the organisation, Mr. Sully Abu, in a statement in Abuja frowned at what he called "the recent penchant of politicians for broadcasting total fabrications in the garb of 'revelations'."

The ploy, according to Abu, is to "pile up one lie over the other with the hope that something murky would stick."

Describing Alhaji Mohammed's allegations as similar to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar's "tissue of lies", Abu wondered under what financial sub-heads the monies allegedly taken from states' coffers would have been released.

He called on the security agencies to investigate Mohammed's "outrageous claims" that "one billion dollars have been secretly and hurriedly shared out to the states from the excess crude oil accounts, just to secure support for President Jonathan and give his backers the necessary war chest needed to fight ahead of April's election."

Abu stressed that no amount of blackmail or wicked propaganda would distract President Jonathan from his focused march to keep a date with destiny in the 2011 elections

Here is an excerpt from a wikileaks source

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics/nation/Obama-created-great-hope-in-the-Muslim-world-Saudi-King/articleshow/7009355.cms

Noting that the US presidency of Barack Obama has created great hope in the Islamic world, the Saudi King Abdullah told a top US official that he should restore America's credibility in the Muslim countries, according to a leaked State Department cable by WikiLeaks .

This was communicated personally by the King, to John Brennan, Obama's counter terrorism advisor, when the latter went to meet him in March 2009 and delivered a personal letter of the US President to the Saudi King. "Thank God for bringing Obama to the Presidency," the King answered, which has created "great hope" in the Muslim world

According to the cable, the King expressed hope the US would review its Iran policy and "come to the right conclusion."

Brennan responded that Obama was personally reviewing US Iran policy and wanted to hear the King's thoughts.

"Abdullah asserted that Iran is trying to set up Hizbollah-like organisations in African countries, observing that the Iranians don't think they are doing anything wrong and don't recognize their mistakes.

"I said (to Mottaki) that's your problem," recounted the King, the cable said.

"Abdullah said he would favor Rafsanjani in an Iranian election, were he to run.

He described Iran not as "a neighbor one wants to see," but as "a neighbour one wants to avoid."
Few months after, we had a container full of all kinds of grenades and rocket lunchers attempting to get through our ports.

. . . .yet a few months afterwards, we had deranged individuals blowing up churches in the name of Jihad!

It all points to either Hezbollah or strong Al-qaeda links.

understandably it could be a potential good source of income, especially for the long term, one you ought to really consider , of course you wouldn't be looking to make a big break in 18 months.

Agriculture is not that cheap, especially if you are considering going into it on a massive scale {your best bet}, in most cases, the land is probably going to be your cheapest investment.  Cost of an harvester is enough to wipe out your entire capital. . .not to talk of preservation and packaging.

I don't think security is an issue you should worry about that much with regards to Taraba, but if quality of life is a priority, taking up this route implies you'd be locking yourself up in a Sharia Zone with limited exposure to the "real world"

One of the ideas I am toying with is selling 100 cars a year, at a minmum profit of £1000.00 or N250,000.00 after all cost have been deducted. It would mean selling 9 cars a month. What I find in Naija is most people want to make 100 times d money they invested, what then happens  is u see a car that is meant to be sold driven all over d town & probably sold for cost price or even at a loss 8 months after. Even if it is sold at a profit 8 months after d profit must be seen as profit/8 which in d grand scheme of things is not good enough. A good turn around is good for business.

This thread is not about me,  it is about our people changing there business culture. It is a shame most d big busineses of d 80's & early 90's have all packed up when they should be waxing stronger. How many of MKO Abiola's busineses are still alive today, we should have a new mind set.

By selling a 100 cars to needy families a year at rock bottom profit I am actually providing a service. So it is about providing a service to my people. I still  see Datsun 120Y plying d streets of Ibadan  as Taxis, a car built in 1976. I think entrepreneurs should see those eyesores on our streets as a challenge dat requires urgent attention.
This makes some sense, but when you line it side by side with your expectations of 100 million in 18 months,. . . .  boy!

Car dealership is an industry that is quite viable but laced with a lot of competition, you only need to take a sneak peak into the autos section to understand what i mean.
You'd be competing with individuals who understand the ins and outs of the industry, you'd be facing customers who would not be willing to pay you up for goods sold on time, and if you strictly want to conduct your business on a cash and carry basis, then your expectations of selling 9 cars a month is a tall dream.

hey, hold on, did you say 9 cars a month?

PoliticsRe: Is It Possible To Turn N7.5 Million Into N100 Million In 18 Months In Naija by violent(m): 8:04pm On Jan 05, 2011
Your expectations are rather too high considering you initial investments, your expected returns and your investment horizon, not to factor in the Nigerian climate.

With that kind of money, i would cleverly hand pick stocks in the UK that are selling for bargain and have strong long term earnings potential {value stocks} , the best time of the year to have done that would be in November/December in order to reap the full benefit that comes with January effect.

If you bought Google stocks at the rate of 450 dollars per share in September, that would have made you an estimate of 81,000 pounds on January 4. . . minus income tax, you'd still be netting around 75,000 pounds.

Do that a few times and register for a subway/McDonald's franchise. . if you consider your management skills good enough

The Nigerian case scenario, however, would not offer such an avenue to make such returns, except of course, you've got another full time Job offer by the side. . there's also a high possibility that the naira will lose value, stemming from the indicators such as high consumption, low production, high debts, etc etc. if anything, it's not the best time to lock your money in!

PS. wake up from your 100 million in 18 months dream, it's not going to happen!
