Use your head o, forget say we are beginning to interact like family here. You should only pay to landlord or legitimate agent (exception is when someone is subletting without the landlord's approval).

I would think that the idea would be presented and then further conversation can happen offline if you are interested.

If it’s the energy bill thing, I will advice you look for another house when you are more settled or stayed in the present place above 6months. The house is D and depending on the type of D ( I mean close to E), the bill might be same or even higher. I Will advice you get an apartment with the C. I know it’s hard to get, but the bill might be a ginger.

We almost started considering houses on EPC rating D when the search was crazy. But we are lucky to have gotten an EPC C (close to B) and our bill is £126 (gas n electric) fixed for a 2bed. The good thing is our tariff won’t change until the contract is over.

If it’s cold, then this is a friendlier one. Last winter in Glasgow, there was a straight 5 - 7day snow and the snow was thick on the ground and windows. Thick like building blocks. So enjoy this one and prepare for a tougher one ahead.

We talk about fees and financial stuff a lot on these threads (here n student), I think we need to talk more about how to manage some situation too (situations like this). A lot of people are traveling for the first time and there is this old mindset that whites are not nice or racist and all that. This old tales make people hold things inside instead of asking for help.

These guys are nice I must admit, at least the ones I've met. But rather than blame the victim for not doing what he does not know how to do, we should blame the school authorities for doing the wrong thing.

Therein lies the problem! Does your meter have two readings ie a day and night reading? If your accommodation has storage heaters you should be on the economy 10 tariff and not the standard tariff.

On economy 10, you will have two tariffs. One for the night which is usually cheaper and a standard day tariff. The storage heaters will be wired to the night tariff while the rest of your appliances will be on the standard tariff. The storage heaters are meant to charge up during the night when electricity is cheap and then release heat during the day. They should be on 24/7 so they can charge up when electric is cheap but you can set them to release the heat at certain times of the day.

I used to live in a 3 bed all electric house with 3 storage heaters and my monthly DD was less than £120. I think you need to have a conversation with your landlord and electric provider.

It's dual, has day and night rates.

If its just you two on electric heating and you're paying 170 quid a month, you need to get yourself some thick sweaters and duvets fast (think teddy fleece), then you need to do something about moving to a dual-fuel house. Do the usual DIY draught-proofing where you can, by stuffing old clothes under the doors and around the windows, change your curtains where you can for the heavier type, etc., but ultimately start to plan to move.

When I lived in Aberdeen, I was on full electric heating with the old storage heaters (the so-called OAP heaters, because they're only good if you are at home during the day, you can't stop the heat being given off, you can only turn it down to the lowest setting, so while they charge overnight at a lower tariff, when you come back from school/work in the evening, they've given off all their heat) and I think then electricity prices where about 3 times gas prices per unit. At current prices, I can only imagine what people on electric heating are/will be paying now.

I will try the stuffing things, I'm sure it will conserve heat too.

I think you mentioned earlier that your heater is electric and not gas, that might be the problem. There’s this platform where people with electric heaters were moaning about their energy bills due to the heaters. Some even advised it’s best to avoid such houses like plague.

My question is, Monzo bank is it a good bank for banking as someone was telling me that the banking options in Monzo are limited and there is usually in it, please I don’t know how true this is.

I use Monzo as salary, no issue but I want to change to Lloyds because I'll need credit card sooner than later, that I can get from Lloyds when they see my account activities.

Storage heater in the palour, barely used. Normal heater in the room, turns off when the room is quite warm. Can't wait for winter to be over.

Please can I get an idea of monthly electricity bill.
Heating in one room always on (regulates itself though), fridge always on (regulates itself as well), electric cooker, microwave oven, electric jug, laptop and phone. No TV even.
Mine is £170. Scared of what it will become post increment.

I live with my wife but we only use one room together, never put on the parlour heating as we hardly go to the parlour because of cold.
No water heating as well. Only fridge and electric cooker then laptop.

There's no regulation that states that these must be provided as well. Its up to you to keep searching till you get a house that meets your requirements.

Hello guys,
My electricity provider is British gas. When I log into my account on a daily basis, I see an increment of £5.5 in my bill. I contacted them and they said that's what I use daily.
They said I am already on their lowest tariff which is Standard Variable tariff that I am free to change tariff if I want. Now my average monthly electricity bill is £170. I use one heater (always on because I work from home), no gas in my apartment. Is this on the high side or it's ok considering we are in winter?

Note: they said they use my meter reading but they sill bill me 5.5 daily. How come it is constant.

I have some funds that I'm not using now and hoping to invest it. When I checked Monzo, I saw like 0.3 pounds as interest for savings. I was thinking of mutual funds in Nigeria but again it will cost me to transfer my pounds across border and vice versa. What are the investment options here, which bank has mutual funds. My money is too idle please.

There are two types of deposits. The first one is to secure the apartment, this is paid if you like the accommodation after viewing it. The second one is what we call damages or damage fee in Nigeria and is paid at the point of paying rent if you decide to go ahead with the house.
