i see some people very happy, Nigeria will still increase fuel pump price after four years, politician only care for their pocket, subsidy is not the justify reason why nigeria is still under develop, it is corruption.

by the time when the increase fuel pump price again and give you fake reasons why its have to be so, that is when you know that this politician were only out for their pocket.

There's nothing like increase or decrease of fuel price anymore by the government. It's now like any other product. Sellers and buyers determine price.

@Nfora

Your explanation differs from that of Papillo.

You guys are only confirming the scam in Subsidy!

@me
I'm not disputing that there could not be any scam and other corruption in the whole arrangement. Like anything associated with the public sector in this country they will definitely exploit it.

They could swap more and account for less. Such people will not allow subsidy to end.

I don't work for government and I'm not a politician. I just explained the meaning and some of the benefits of removal of subsidy.

It's affecting me too. But let's get ride once and for all the scam, corruption etc associated with subsidy and move on. There are so much to do: fx, power, insecurity etc.
PoliticsRe: NNPC To Discontinue Crude Swap, Targets Cash Payments For Petrol Imports by Vision101(m): 1:44pm On Jun 05, 2023
@obinnanelson4
If they have been engaging in crude swap for refined pms, why then is subsidy in the picture all these while. Or is it that i do not understand what swap means?

@me
Crude swap means that:
The nnpc sales crude oil at international prevealing market price.

Uses the money realized to buy pms at the international prevealing market price.

Add the associated cost up to depot.

Total cost plus margin ought to be their selling price. But they sell below the total cost because the price is regulated.

The government will now be obliged to refund them thus: total cost minus the local pms price.

The amount refunded by government is the subsidy. Government has been saying that they don't have money anymore to pay it. They have been borrowing to pay it.

The crude swap was allowed because cbn has not got enough fx to sell for pms import. That was why nnpc was allowed to be the sole importer.

Further note that the amount paid for subsidy belong to the federation account. Hence about 38% of consumption take place in Abuja, Kano and Lagos because of population, number of vehicles and economic activities the states with lesser consumption are shortchanged. Their money is being used to subsidise consumption in those three locations.

If subsidy is removed, their money will be released and if the leaders are prudent they can pay regular salaries and develop more.

Our labour movements are just old school. Everything to them is aluta and strike. I think they need good consultants that are unbiased to advise them.

They should engage the government on what next. Removal of subsidy will favour labour in the midium and long run. There will be creation of jobs by the private sector in the petroleum sector.

Something that beat my imagination is how someone will suddenly anounce the removal of subsidy on his inauguration day without a single plan grin
Did he thinks nigeria is iragbiji.

@me
This issue has been on for too long with attendant politiking, lobbying, diverse interests and falsehood. I bet you the moment the president sits on that seat for one week without taking the action labour will come up with the usual demand of fix all refineries before subsidy can be removed. Buy buses for workers. Increase minimum wage etc. This will go on till the end of this year.

The current approach is better. Remove subsidy and discuss the palliatives. It takes a strong leader to do what tinubu did. He has a full grasp of the problems and his own approach before mounting on that seat. Bubu didn't. Time is short. Nigeria is down. We don't have the luxury of time

@me

PoliticsRe: We Won’t Fix Petrol Prices Again – NMDPRA by Vision101(m): 12:25pm On Jun 03, 2023
@LagosBoi2
]Majority agrees that subsidy regime needs to go but my concern here is that, if they say refining locally will not bring down the price of petrol significantly i.e dangote and getting our local refineries to work, if other companies starts importing too taking away NNPC's market monopoly, that too will not bring it down significantly, what then will bring down the price of petrol significantly? Already Buhari has borrowed heaven and earth. Buhari has truly set traps for Tinubu. He will have to prove his brilliance once again in this difficult task ahead. May God help Him.

@me
Local refining and competition will bring down the price marginally because the associated import costs will not be there. Government can introduce marginal subsidy to refineries through tax rebate based on quantities supplied to the local market.

In this way there will be no corruption. We win by having more jobs, income to government and technology transfer.
PoliticsRe: President Tinubu And The Dangers Of Fuel Subsidy Removal - Kperogi by Vision101(m): 11:55am On Jun 03, 2023
@nairalanda1
It is like Kperoggi does not get why subsidy is evil.

The problem with subsides is that here in Nigeria, we don't do what the US does and subsidise production. Instead we spend time subsidising things at the sale point.

So, we sell fuel below what it costs to refine it, and what it costs to transport it. The result...distortions that lead to things like smugging, stealing, looting and corruption.

But here is why subsidy is insidious.....the difference between the production cost and the subsidised cost keeps rising. That adds to the subsidy cost. Then the increase in number of consumers, that also adds on.

Then how are we paying for the subsidy.? We pay for it from oil income...which in Nigeria has never been enough because the price is never high enough (that is why GEJ took loans even when oil prices were high...for those of you who love to crap on that). And oil prices have been low since 2014. Very low. So, we have to borrow to make up the difference...and a large chunk of the money goes to subsidy.

And the more the cost of the subsidy rises...the greater the amount we spend from the budget...till we reach a point where we spend all our revenue on subsidy, borrow to add to money spent on subsidy, and then cover the deficit with more borrowing.

And the more we do that, the worse it gets.

Look, I am aware the poor will suffer when subsidy goes. God knows I know this and hate it, so for anyone quoting me to abuse and call me names, or ask silly questions, or call me government supporter....I know, and it uspets me a lot. But if we keep subsidy, as you will soon see, the poor would suffer even more.

But if we keep the subsidy, we would have reached a point where there would have been no money for things like salaries, projects, etc. And if we were making fuel at home, we would start saving cost by skimping on refinery repair and maintenance....and that's how we lost our 4 refineries...and became net importers, and ended up being at the mercy of cabals....because we wanted cheap fuel.

Anyone advoxcating for subsidy wants us to be as broke as Sri Lanka and Lebanon. So broke that the IMF is literally running things there.

If you want the poor to be helped...remove subsidy. And yes, people would suffer, but when we get better refineries, improved production and more revenue, we would wake up.

And yes, APC has failed. But the fact that we have a devious APC government in charge should not be an excuse to keep subsidy.

@me
I love your submission

Correct interpretation my brother. Every social media rat thinks that legal language is what they can understand without learning.

In law you first establish the issue. Next you produce evidence to back up the issues. You can't bring up evidence that were not part of the original issues established. The respondent will object to it and it will not influence the decision of the judge. It will just be a mere wasted paper.

@LeoDeKing
Competition will force down the price, yet you pegged the price, total bullshit.

Truly, removal of subsidy is synonymous to liberalisation of the industry, but then, why fixing prices?

Besides, Petroleum marketers have association, that is the where a price is fixed. Any marketer who sells in defiance to the agreed price will be sanctioned.

So stop the dogshit of prices coming down on account of any imaginary competition.

@me
Nnpc didn't peg any price. Nnpc fixed their retail economic price. Any marketer is at liberty to fix their own economic price either lower or higher.

If you want to buy fuel now you have to shop around for the lowest price. No regulated price anymore.

Yes. The nnpc has fixed its price based on cost and profit elements. Each fuel marketing company is free to fix at any price. If you want to buy fuel now you have to shop around to find out where the price is cheaper.

@Hoelujohn
So any filling station can fix whatever price they want to? Even if it's 1k per litre? You need mental evaluation.

@me
What you just typed is the essence of deregulation. It brings competition. Do you know that many people that were given licences to build private refineries backed out because of pump price regulation?

Do you know that all our neighbouring countries depend on Nigerian smuggled fuel because our smuggled fuel is cheaper than their imported fuel. If the savings are channeled properly it will reduce borrowing.

To me the timing is right and this is a good one from BAT. If he settles down before taking this decision too much poliking will come into play and it will be further postponed. Bubu ought to have taken this decision but the cabal that feed from subsidy made him to chicken out.

The good thing about BAT is that he's smart, courageous and a core politician. No cabal can come around him. Infact he's the cabal himself.

@me
Majority of the abia civil servants have opted to have side businesses. They come to work sparingly. Asking for handouts for everything you go there to do is very common.

For abiapoly the owed salaries are about 36 months. Of course the students will have to pay the lecturers. The grades becomes pay and collect.

The state is in a mess.

I believe that this man is a technocrat. Why is he speaking like a typical politician? Technocrats will take time and open the books. Look at current inflow and outflow and the leakages. Plan on how to block the leakages. Ascertain total projected inflow. Priortise your expenditure. Plan your actions. Finally make announcement.

The above cannot happen on day one of taking up an assignment. We are watching.
