hatchy: Not that they see anything good. It's the inducement by Tinubu that's attracting them. They are given 10 Billion each, for state governor to pocket privately to defect.
Secondly, Tinubu have also used money to induce crises in almost all the notable opposition parties. He manufacture these problems using factions, and where there is none, he'll crate one. They go as far as recalling past party office holders whose tenure have elapsed to come back and lay claims to the position, thereby creating internal crises.
Nigeria is on a very dangerous path to political crises caused by the greed of one man who’ll rather watch the country burn down than lose election. Show your workings. Do you have proof? |

Very dark old days!
I would have given President Tinubu 100% for being bold about subsidy removal, but, I won't .. because he fought against it because of Politics , during Jonathan's administration.
Those protests delayed subsidy removal and Nigeria's economic recovery.
Had it been President Jonathan was allowed to remove it, maybe, by now, we would have finished ensuring the bitting effects of it on common man. Jonathan didn't have the guts to manage subsidy removal. A president that inherited stable economy and rich purse and blew all without provision of infrastructure. How can you trust him with savings from subsidy removal. Besides Tinubu did what any other opposition would have done. He didn't put gun on Jonathan's head to stop him. Didn't the opposition oppose Tinubu's subsidy removal just as they are opposing the tax reforms. He stuck to his decision because he knows where he's going. That's the hallmark of a strong leader. |

femi4: What has changed? Tinubu removed it, yet keeps borrowing The money used for subsidy were even borrowed. Remember that we were selling our crude upfront. Tinubu might decide not to borrow. The effect will be lower deficit budget which will affect infrastructural development. It means that you will develop as your pocket can afford. To reduce borrowing and continue to increase your stock of infrastructure you need to earn more money through taxation. |

Enjoy the drug baron's regime. Big fat lies. GEJ inherited a stable economy and ran it aground. He couldn't control his ministers. The monumental corruption through Dieziani is still fresh in our memory. There was no infrastructural development. When the purse became empty he turned to subsidy removal and we said no. If you inherited stable economy with huge purse and you blew all and there's nothing to show for it how can we trust you with savings from subsidy removal? |

Ofunaofu: We were promised heaven and earth.
We were told that subsidies were the reason Nigeria’s economy was not growing and why there were no developmental projects or good hospitals. Since the subsidy was removed, the economy has nosedived, there are still no developmental projects, and hospitals are still bad.
Tinubu, where is the money saved from subsidy removal? Not a single question. Ask Tinubu and ask state governors. The savings are shared. FG took some. States took some. The governors are very happy that the focus is only on Tinubu. |

CorperKola: A good example is MTN What was mtn's service quality like last year and what was their revenue Compared to this year, their revenue went up but quality went dramatically down
The people who put subsidies there in the first place are not stupid, they know thats the only direct way for individuals to benefit from government So why did you remove them Government sgould have one its damn job and administwr those subsidies properly not removing them wholesale
Should i go and arrest my governor And you also excluded dollar inflation on its own
The states are also like mtn , what is the value of their budgets last 5 years compared to now That 2000 is far too long, the value from 5 yeats is down thats why they are all still borrowing including even the federal government
How can any government remove the most meaningful subsidies within 3 nonths of each other and claim to care about its citizens Definitely not ! Almost a murderous government If you have knowledge of what happened in fx market then you will appreciate PBAT. It required a lot of guts. Do you know that people were earning fx abroad, brought them in and exchanged at black market and used the naira to buy CBN lower rate fx and take out. By this operation those that are connected can bring in £1,000 and take out say £1,400. This was how your foreign reserves were drained. |

lightuplightup: Here is the part nobody is saying,
The road that cost you 2 Billion naira to construct in 2000 may cost you about 150billion naira to construct in 2025 . So inflation cancels out the gain. Hence the trillions these states are budgeting now will do almost same number of project their previous billions were doing cos projects now cost way more Did you read the analysis. The naira figures were converted using the exchange rates of then and now. This significantly removes the exchange rate induced inflation. You can use a project at x dollar amount in 2000 to divide the total budget. That will give how many of such projects that the budget then should fund. Use a project at x dollar amount in 2025 to divide the total budget. This will give you the total number of projects that such budget should fund. You can then ask the question: are we getting this number of projects in 2025? I doubt if the answer will be positive. I have it on good authority that in spite of all the hype about the performance of Oti serious looting is going on. What is making him to shine is heavily increased revenue. The same applies to a lot of governors. |

Christianity Etc › Re: Does Crossing Over In Church Or Mosque Really Matter? by Vision101(m): 3:46am On Jan 01 |
kolafolabi: Every December 31st, a familiar ritual unfolds across Nigeria. Roads stay busy late into the night, churches overflow, mosques are filled, and many Nigerians make deliberate efforts to ensure they “cross over” into the New Year within a place of worship. For many, being in church or mosque as the clock strikes midnight on January 1 is seen as spiritually significant, almost compulsory.
But the question remains: does crossing over in church or mosque really matter?
For believers, crossing over is symbolic. It represents gratitude for survival through the outgoing year and hope for divine protection, favour, and guidance in the year ahead. In a country weighed down by economic hardship, insecurity, and uncertainty, faith provides comfort and reassurance.
However, spirituality should not be reduced to a single night. Faith, whether Christian or Muslim, is meant to be lived daily through integrity, discipline, compassion, and responsibility. Spending January 1 in a place of worship does not automatically guarantee success or protection, just as missing a crossover service does not condemn anyone to misfortune.
Interestingly, while Nigerians passionately debate and prioritise crossover services, major national issues often pass with little public scrutiny. From January 1, new tax policies are set to take effect, beginning with systems like the National Revenue Service (NRS). These policies will directly affect livelihoods, businesses, and household income, yet there is little public conversation, resistance, or demand for accountability.
This contrast is troubling. We are quick to defend religious practices but slow to question governance, policy decisions, and economic reforms that shape daily survival. Many who passionately fill religious centres are also victims of corruption, poor leadership, and weak institutions, yet silence prevails where collective civic action is most needed.
My take is simple: crossing over only matters when faith translates into consciousness, courage, and responsibility. Religion should not be an escape from reality or a shield for corruption. True faith should empower citizens to question injustice, demand transparency, and live ethically, both in private and in public life.
Ultimately, the New Year does not reward where you stood at midnight. It responds to awareness, preparation, and action. Whether one crosses over in a church, a mosque, at home, or at work, what truly matters is how one lives from January 1 onward.
Faith without accountability is ritual. Religion without responsibility becomes noise. Hope without action changes nothing.
Thank you. What is your issue? I can't understand. Did anyone ask or force you to attend crossover Service? As you didn't attend have you solved all your Nigerian problems? Faith is a personal issue. It works for those that believe. Faith and reason don't work together. Faith looks nonsensical to those that don't believe. It's the substance of things hoped for. |

grandstar: What most critics of the new tax laws don't understand is they and the country suffers with low tax revenues.
Tax revenues are barely 10% of GDP. Overdependence on oil revenues has led to this problems.
It's because tax collection is low affects the exchange rate of the Naira. Huge borrowing affects the value of the currency.
In addition, low tax revenues is one reason why many are poorly paid. If tax revenues were like 20% of GDP, doctors would be better paid There's just so much you can squeeze out from crude oil revenues. The economy can not grow greater than it's crude oil revenues.
There's was a time I was in over 200 WhatsApp groups. Now, I was using a 16GB phone. Obviously, it couldn't cope.
The phone kept crashing and deleted lots of ,WhatsApp messages to get back to the 16GB. It was always resetting.
It is the same with Nigerias crude. The economy can't grow bigger than the crude oil revenues. It would continue to reset anytime it passes the crude oil capacity.
There needs to be change. The ignorant will murder you for all that you wrote here. I understand fully what you said. We have operated buying and selling economy for too long. Productive economy must come with proper taxation. The arrival of crude oil killed taxation in Nigeria. Apart from taxes imbedded in cost of goods and PAYE, Nigerians pay little or no tax. All high end Nigerians including those that tell us that a new Nigeria is possible pay little or no tax. Who has ever gone to jail in this country for not paying tax? |

I think fela hit it right when he said Nigerians are suffering and smiling.
The crazy thing about our situation is that Nigerians have been held in shakles by our leaders for soooooooo long that they have become used to poverty.
Many Nigerians have accepted poverty and gotten used to it that even bringing them out of it is even another task. It's like the story of Mr tortoise that fell into a hole of excrement and stayed there for days and became so comfortable that when help finally came he refused to come out claiming the place was comfortable.
Just a few decades back it might not have been all that rosy but Nigerians still lived a decent life. Now there isn't even a middle class anymore. Majority of people are living in poverty and the weird thing is they don't even know it.
Suffering and smiling. It's a pity for a country that has soooooooo much potential! No big deal. I bought two. I have used one to fry eggs and had a wonderful breakfast with a cup of coffee. The remaining omelet I used it in the evening to eat rice. |
