Big fat lies. GEJ inherited a stable economy and ran it aground. He couldn't control his ministers. The monumental corruption through Dieziani is still fresh in our memory. There was no infrastructural development. When the purse became empty he turned to subsidy removal and we said no. If you inherited stable economy with huge purse and you blew all and there's nothing to show for it how can we trust you with savings from subsidy removal?

Whose fault? Nigerians and their leaders faults. This has been in operation for years. Many became millionaires without adding any value to the economy. Merging the rates closed permanently a major chapter of corruption.

Subsidy on inputs for industries? Anything subsidy in Nigeria is abused and exploited. What happened to petroleum products subsidy? What happened to petroleum equalization fund?

Nigeria is not China. What worked in China may not work in Nigeria. Copy and paste economic policies doesn't solve real life problems. Take decisions based on your peculiarity.

Did you read the analysis. The naira figures were converted using the exchange rates of then and now. This significantly removes the exchange rate induced inflation. You can use a project at x dollar amount in 2000 to divide the total budget. That will give how many of such projects that the budget then should fund.

You can then ask the question: are we getting this number of projects in 2025?

What is the genuine interest of students against tax reforms to warrant demonstration? The window of extra income that came to the government are they not direct beneficiaries such that they have never experienced before?

My take is simple: crossing over only matters when faith translates into consciousness, courage, and responsibility. Religion should not be an escape from reality or a shield for corruption. True faith should empower citizens to question injustice, demand transparency, and live ethically, both in private and in public life.

Ultimately, the New Year does not reward where you stood at midnight. It responds to awareness, preparation, and action. Whether one crosses over in a church, a mosque, at home, or at work, what truly matters is how one lives from January 1 onward.

Faith without accountability is ritual.

Tinubu will be everywhere at the same time. That village has no local government chairman, no governor. They don't receive allocation and don't collect revenue. All monies and powers in Nigeria are controlled by the president.

It's because tax collection is low affects the exchange rate of the Naira. Huge borrowing affects the value of the currency.

In addition, low tax revenues is one reason why many are poorly paid. If tax revenues were like 20% of GDP, doctors would be better paid

There's just so much you can squeeze out from crude oil revenues. The economy can not grow greater than it's crude oil revenues.

There's was a time I was in over 200 WhatsApp groups. Now, I was using a 16GB phone. Obviously, it couldn't cope.

The phone kept crashing and deleted lots of ,WhatsApp messages to get back to the 16GB. It was always resetting.

It is the same with Nigerias crude. The economy can't grow bigger than the crude oil revenues. It would continue to reset anytime it passes the crude oil capacity.

All high end Nigerians including those that tell us that a new Nigeria is possible pay little or no tax. Who has ever gone to jail in this country for not paying tax?

The crazy thing about our situation is that Nigerians have been held in shakles by our leaders for soooooooo long that they have become used to poverty.


Many Nigerians have accepted poverty and gotten used to it that even bringing them out of it is even another task. It's like the story of Mr tortoise that fell into a hole of excrement and stayed there for days and became so comfortable that when help finally came he refused to come out claiming the place was comfortable.


Just a few decades back it might not have been all that rosy but Nigerians still lived a decent life. Now there isn't even a middle class anymore. Majority of people are living in poverty and the weird thing is they don't even know it.

Suffering and smiling. It's a pity for a country that has soooooooo much potential!
